“With even more nostalgia, higher stakes, and twisted fun, it’s Mean Girls on steroids and a front-row seat to the cucumber-melon-scented joys of 90s girlhood.”

-V.S. Lawrence, author of 80s Ghosts & With Friends Like These

It's been months since Tina's Sweet 16 sleepover when she and her two best friends, Eve and Lacey, summoned a demon. Now possessed by the demon Zozo, Lacey has been tormenting teens and ruling Tropic Acres High under her new identity, Zoey.

As winter break approaches, Tina realizes more and more teens are falling under Zoey’s fashionable spell. She must exorcise the demon again.

She must get her friend back.

She must throw an epic…

'she was yanked backward and spun around and around, the string lights pulling tighter and tighter against her chest. A blur of demonic faces and Christmas decorations spun before her eyes and a wave of nausea hit hard. The spinning stopped as bile gurgled up in her throat.'

🎄👹This sequel to Birthday Party Demon proves to be a pretty enjoyable continuation of the series. Author Wendy consistently and skillfully weaves 80s-90s nostalgia throughout the novel, creating a distinctive atmosphere that makes the book feel like "Goosebumps for adults."

The writing is well-crafted and, despite its Young Adult (YA) classification, successfully avoids common pitfalls: the characterizations are strong, with no overtly annoying personalities, and the pacing is excellent, steering clear of unnecessary, repetitive dialogues or scenes.
The book's finale is particularly strong, delivering a satisfying conclusion while subtly hinting at a possible third installment—a prospect I genuinely hope materializes.
Overall, this is a good recommendation for readers seeking a quick, fun read that effectively blends a Holiday theme with the exorcism trope.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Christmas Party Demon is the sequel to Birthday Party Demon, and I would recommend reading these books in order. Both books are novellas, and this book is set 6 months on from book 1.
Life's not been the same for Tina and Eve after Tina's sweet sixteen party got ruined by a demonic being possessing her best friend Laceys body. The Demon Zozo who now goes by the name Zoey is taking over the entire student body at school and turning them into a brainless fashion catalogue crew of followers and she wants Tina and Eve to join them.
Tina decides enough is enough and sets a trap to capture and stop Zoeys' reign by throwing a Christmas party. But has Tina bitten off more than she can chew this time?!
This was another fun, retro 80s blast from the past novella with many references to those nostalgic days. The book is fast-paced and spoofy, and I have a feeling there could be a 3rd book coming our way!

This was exactly the sequel I was hoping for and I think I enjoyed it even more than the first book. The stakes are higher as Tina races to save her friends from demonic possession. It’s fast paced, campy, and fun, with plenty of moments that had me holding my breath for Tina. A perfect holiday horror novella for fans of festive chaos.

I really enjoyed this sequel to Birthday Party Demon. I felt transported back to a simpler time, of course my past didn't include demons (I don't think! ). Tina is a wonderful character and I also liked Lacey, Eve, Deon and Lance. I hope there will be more books with these characters.

Ho ho, oh no! Christmas Party Demon is what happens when you mix the 90s with cheap tinsel and a demon who’s basically the mean girl nightmare from middle school. This novella reads like a love letter to those deliciously campy Fear Street books I devoured as a kid. It’s short, sassy, and it’s got more holiday spirit (evil ones, mostly) than a mall Santa on an espresso bender after dealing with snot goblins and Marish Careys Christmas song on repeat for a full 12 hours.

Overall, it’s a bite sized holiday treat that’s more spiked punch than mulled wine or eggnog. Read it this holiday season when you need a break from wrapping presents or dodging some weird person's mistletoe ambush.

It's been months since Tina's 16th birthday sleepover with her two best friends, Lacey and Eve. That same party where they played with a Ouija board and inadvertently summoned a demon named Zozo who possessed Lacey and now goes by the name of Zoey. Tina thought getting trapped in a fashion catalog was bad, but now Lacey/Zoey is slowly taking over the minds of everyone in the 10th grade. Knowing she may be the last hope of stopping the demon, Tina realizes there's only way to do it - by throwing a rad Christmas party!
This was a fun sequel to Birthday Party Demon. It felt more fleshed out than its predecessor, and definitely followed the "rules" of horror sequels by having a more elaborate plot and lots more "bodies." If the series continues, I'm game to read more of it.

I was looking forward to a sequel for Birthday Party Demon as soon as I finished that one, so I was thrilled when I saw this was going to be released! Just like the first in the series, this was so fun. Filled with the same spooks, nostalgia, and friendship, and in my opinion, it was even more horror filled and fast paced this time around. Perfect for young adult readers, but I think anyone would enjoy this.

This is the third book by Wendy Dalrymple that I've read, and she's becoming a must-read author for me!

Thank you to NetGalley and Mad Axe Media for the ARC!

I absolutely loved the first book, so I was soooo excited for this one!! I loved the holiday theme and the characters so much. The nostalgia is so good and I have really began to love this author. Everything I have read from her so far has been nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend reading this one, and the previous book if you haven’t already.

The newest in the Totally Freaked! series and instead of a new book in this world we get a sequel to an earlier book. This time no Birthday Party Demon, no this time it is Christmas! And it is a last ditch effort to get everything right!

Because as we can see now that several months have passed is that Zozo, Zoey, or Lacey is gathering all the people from the school in her fashion demon army. Even the mousiest of girls gets recruited. Zozo is not just satisfied with a couple, she wants the world! Zozo still terrifies me, especially given her confidence that she will win. And the fact she can so easily get people to be possessed. I mean, at one point people were just getting possessed left and right. I am sorry, but that is a big YIKES from me. And Zozo wants to have Eve and Tina in the club!

In this one we see how Tina (our MC of this story) and her bestie Eve are trying their hardest to avoid Zozo and also figure out a plan to get rid of her once and for all and help out Lacey. I loved following Tina and seeing her again. See how next to a demon in her life she was trying to get a car (ah, America), get creeped out by whatever is lurking behind her, try to be happy for her mom who had a new boyfriend (especially this one was a big one for her). Along the way trying to make plans, and I love those plans though I was worried if it would be going well, I mean, Zozo has quite the army now. I am glad we got to meet those people again from the previous book and get some help from them, this time good help, haha (thanks Ras in the previous book).

Things get quite dicey and scary at times and I was wondering if truly everything would go all right. Or if it would all fall apart. I mean, with Totally Freaked you never know! I won’t spoil anything, but strap yourself in the seat because it is going to be a ride! A merry Christmas glittery demon ride! And yes, you will definitely shed some tears along the way.

Oh, and RIP boys. They are CapriSuns (as Deon so wonderfully called it).

I loved seeing Tina explore her sexuality/who she was falling for. She has always loved Lacey (well, before she turned into a demon), and now she is falling for Lance, a boy from her work. Which confuses her as she always has liked girls, and not boys. I liked seeing her try to figure things out and see her fall more for Lance in the process. It gave a bit of light-heartedness to the whole demon is turning everyone in a demon thing.

The ending, or well, the epilogue (which generally is something I love). I am not entirely sure how I feel about that.

All in all, I had fun and I flew right through this novella. I am curious what is next for the Totally Freaked! series and I hope that there are many more books to follow in this delightfully creepy YA series.

CHRISTMAS PARTY DEM*N by Wendy Dalrymple (Dec 2)

Thank you MadAxeMedia for the earc

A few months after Tina's 16th birthday party, her friend is still p*ssessed by ZoZo, Lacey is on top of the world---ruling the achool as Zoey. Tina decides to take matters into her own hands and exorcise the dem*n...again.
CHRISTMAS PARTY DEM*N is a YA horror story set during Christmas, making it perfect for the chilly months ahead. This is a short, fast-paced read that I flew through. CHRISTMAS PARTY DEM*N is entertaining, and there's not much to it. What I mean by this is: The author gets straight to the point instead of over complicating things. This allows for there to never be a chance for boredom---or anything like that---to snake its way through, p*ssessing(see what I did there?) the reader if you will. This book does stray more toward the juvenile side like if I didn't know the characters ages, I would think they were younger.
Much like BIRTHDAY PARTY DEM*N, CHRISTMAS PARTY DEM*N is filled with nostalgia, drama, and a tinge of frights (dem*ns, come on). I think this can be read without reading the first book, though reading the first will give more understanding to the events that led up to Zoey(ZoZo) p*ssessing Lacey.
I did enjoy this book. I liked that it was short, and, of course, I loved the Christmas theme.

Pure freaky festive fun! In the sequel to Birthday Party Demon, we’re back in the universe of Tropic Acres High with estranged best friends Tina, Eve and possessed Lacey/Zoey. Despite it being very light-hearted, the author builds upon her original work in a way that impressed me and I enjoyed even more! I’m very excited that Halloween Party Demon has been announced and will be following along for all the subsequent possessed holiday books!!

Fans of 90’s YA/teen horror anthologies such as Goosebumps or Fear Street should definitely have Wendy Dalrymple on their radar! Her books are always a delightful, silly time.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher, Mad Axe Media, for an opportunity to receive an arc of this book! Christmas Party Demon is set to be published 12.02.25 and NEEDS to be on your Xmas list <3

I loved Birthday Party Demon, but when that book ended I was so angry! Wendy Dalrymple ended that book on one of the best and most insane cliffhangers ever and I needed this sequel immediately!!! And it delivers like nobody’s business, too. This one is even scarier, funnier, romantic, and all around one of the best times you’ll have this year!

The stakes are so much higher and it builds to such a fantastic demon infested Christmas party that I raced through this book in an afternoon and I’m sure you will, too!!

Skillfully 90's, with the delectable innocents-tumbling-inadvertently-into-evil-hands flavor of the wonderful Point Horror novels, CHRISTMAS PARTY DEMON is both a retro return to the 90's [beepers? Landlines? Radio Shack?] and a return to more "innocent" days, when the division between good and evil was clearly delineated, and when, while not striving valiantly to exorcise demons, teens just had to worry about dating, first love, friendships, and getting into college. Engaging, intriguing, and delightful, with the female gender taking point on both the good guys and the evil demonic!

Looking for a palette cleanser or a short read that’s a change of pace?
This is a fun horror book filled with nostalgic 90s references like “caboodles” and some typical teen dynamics…if some of the teens were possessed by demons.
This story has its cheesy moments but it’s one of those books that doesn’t take itself too seriously. So in this case cheesiness equals fun.
But don’t let the nostalgia or silliness fool you. We’re still dealing with demons here. There are some very creepy parts!
Once again, we are left with the possibility of another sequel. But,no worries about a 💩 ending. This possibility does not take away from the satisfying ending at all.
I am thankful to Mad Axe Media for sending me an advanced ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you want books that give you the nostalgic feeling of reading RL Stine, then Totally Freaked! series is the perfect books to indulge in. Christmas Party Demon is just as fast paced and as fun as Birthday Party Demon. Less on the pink horror this time, but one can never go wrong with holiday horror. Filled with retro 90's and demonic mean girls, a perfect edition to the series and sequel that hits all the right notes.

This book picks up where the birthday party demon left off. Tina and Eve are making plans for Christmas. They decide on another sleepover.
But there’s problems at school. The demon has infected more kids. Their plan is another exorcism.
This was honestly such a fun read. It’s paced well and is a quick read. Perfect for a YA audience. I love Wendy’s writing and I’m really looking forward to getting into more of her work.

I loved it! This was a really fun follow up and it did not disappoint! The references were as always, on POINT. The threat was ramped up and the pressure was on poor Tina! It was really funny while being a very real threat at hand. I loved her continued exploration with her sexuality. Good on you girl! I love to see it. Very excited to see where this all goes with the third installment!

Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Starting off, Christmas Party Demon is the fourth book in the Totally Freaked! series and at the same time it's a sequel of Birthday Party Demon (guessed it might be worth mentioning since at the moment of writing the review, not a single book is put in any series).

Since Christmas Party Demon is taking off few months after what originally happened in Birthday Party Demon, I would definitely recommend reading the latter first or you might just end up feeling lost and not understanding certain things.

I liked this one better than the first one, especially since I feel like we got a lot more action happening in this part (or maybe it's just me appreciating how the whole party did turn out lol). Just like in the Birthday Party Demon, we get a very quick read, slightly above 100 pages, which makes it a perfect length novel before the bed, if you feel like picking a young adult horror, that is *wink*.

If you're the type of horror lover who usually goes after all the gore, this one might either not be up your alley or just a calmer, more peaceful kind of read. Just your typical teenegars getting possesed after playing with our lovely spooky board. Personally, as someone who mostly reads violent type of horrors, I found this one a nice break from the pace I'm used to.

What can I say about the book itself?

Christmas Party Demon came out in 2025, but it perfectly captured the vibe of all the spooky books and movies most of us probably came across when we were teens. It's giving that sweet nostalgic vibes, one you wish you could grasp once again and just don't have to worry about anything but monsters in those scary stories. Wendy Dalrymple throws a lot of humor at us and at one moment I couldn't help but chuckle.

I'm looking forward to the next book, because with the ending like that? I feel like we will get it, sooner or later.

Can't wait to see what the Totally Freaked! series has in store for us in 2026.

First of all, if you haven’t read Birthday Party Demon, I would suggest you pick that little pink horror story up before this one so you get a little more history on the three best friends and what incident they bring up within the first paragraph of the book.

*spoilers*

Tina and Eve are still trying to get past their trauma of what happened during that birthday party that left a demon to possess their best friend, Lacie. Now with Zozo, turned Zoey, controlling her body, she has managed to control students from campus, as they wear a distinctive style that Tina notices instantly. But when things start to get out of hand, they decide the best way to cut ties before it gets out of hand is to try to get their best friend back.

Tina is still heart broken that Lacey, her crush, is still stuck behind a demonic force. But she’ll have to turn towards her new coworker friend and her other bestie’s boyfriend in order to stop Zoey from overruling their school by turning everyone into mindless zombies under her control. The best way to do it? A weekend Christmas exorcism while her mother is away.

All the nostalgia. All the emotions are back in this cute holiday-themed YA horror sequel to Birthday Party Demon. The characters coming back was the icing on the cake because I felt like there was still more to tell in the previous book. As an avid reader of Dalrymple, she always seems to release bangers every time that cause you to finish the book in one sitting. If you have been reluctant to start this little mini series, this is your sign to start them now. Under 100 pages with a pacing that will keep you on your toes the whole time.

Christmas Party Demon is a wickedly fun blend of holiday cheer (hehe), teen dynamics, and supernatural havoc all wrapped up in Darymple's witty charm. The story picks up months after Tina and her besties summon a demon during a sleepover, a premise that already indicates the havoc to come. But Darymple elevates the story by showing us the fallout of that night and particularly Tina's determination to save her friend Lacey, who is now possessed by the sly and stylish demon Zozo. And by stylish, I mean STYLISH.

The transformation of Lacey into "Zoey", the new queen bee of the school, is darkly amusing and unsettling. Darymple captures the intoxicating pull of popularity, the fragility of teen identity, and the way social power can feel almost supernatural whether a demon is behind it or not. As Zoey's influence begins spreading through the student body, Tina's resolve becomes heroic and heartbreakingly personal.

The holiday backdrop and nods to the nostalgic add a lovely layer of tinseled tension. The Christmas party Tina is planning will double as a battleground, giving the story the urgency readers want in a clever and refreshing way. THIS IS AN EXORCISM PEOPLE! With sharp pacing, likable characters, along with a touch of heartfelt friendship at the core, Christmas Party Demon is a delightful, spirited YA romp perfect for the season. This book is a part of the Totally Freaked YA series from Mad Axe Media, who were so thoughtful to send me an ARC copy. Keep an eye out for this one that drops tomorrow, December 01, 2025!

One of my favorite parts of Christmas time will always be the first moment you hear Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas.” Now imagine a demon singing it at karaoke.

Wendy Dalrymple gives us another fast-paced follow-up to Birthday Party Demon. This story takes place during the most wonderful time of the year, and the demon Zozo, unleashed in book one, is parading around in Tina’s best friend Lacey’s body while doing their best Regina George impression. And no Regina George comparison would be complete without a crew of plastics. Zozo, now going by Zoey, is transforming Tina’s classmates into loyal demon followers. Can Tina, Deon, and Lance, one of Tina’s coworkers and classmates, outsmart Zozo and save Christmas, or will this turn into the holiday party from hell?

This book picks up right where Birthday Party Demon left off, and I had a blast again. Wendy drops in 90s references without going overboard. It reads like a Point Horror or Fear Street book but feels more lighthearted and not overly serious. If I had one nit to pick, it would be the rap karaoke choice. It should have been Run DMC’s “Christmas in Hollis,” but that is just me being a Scrooge. A great sequel entry in the Totally Freaked series. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

I was absolutely ticked to get a chance at reading this early, how could I not be, have you checked Wendy’s other books??

This was so good, there is just something about this kind of thing when done well, its not too serious but it is at the same time, your laughing along while actively processing some serious trauma the MC’s are going through and you get to work through it as well.

This isn’t just a funny haha horror, it’s a well done holiday horror and I will be reading it again next year at Christmas!

This is such a good short read for the holidays but it is a sequel to Birthday Party Demon, so please don’t miss that one, it was great too!

This takes place a few months after Tina’s bday sleep over that kind of went a little wild and I dont mean partying lol. Now that chaos is spilling over ( avoiding spoilers if you are reading this so I’m being super vague) but “its” spreading through the whole class now and Tina has to step back up and doing what she knows best, throwing a freaking party!

Sorry I totally cackled coming up with that last line but that’s the kind of vibe this book gives, while also being something more serious underneath, oh like a Christmas present..

I really hope for another that goes along with this vibe, because I am invested.

This sequel picks up right where the delightful Birthday Party Demon left off, as Tina and her pals try to stop a demon who has possessed her friend (and now most of the high school!) in this homage to 1990s teen horror.

These books really do feel reminiscent of the books of that era, though they’re more tongue in cheek than actual attempts to be scary. Dalrymple writes some pink horror that is creepier than these if that’s your bag. These are more of a wink-nudge tribute to the likes of Christopher Pike and Diane Hoh and other YA horror authors of old.

The first book in this series felt a bit more nostalgia-tinged, and I loved the humorous and clever twist involving the Delia’s catalog. We don’t really get anything like that in the second book, which is a bit of a bummer. I also wish we’d gotten more 90s Christmas content (especially in the part of the book where Tina and her friends visit the mall), but on the whole, this is a fun, quick read and a lovely tribute to old teen horror.

Christmas Party Demon is a fast, festive, and surprisingly nostalgic YA novella that works as both a standalone or a follow-up to Birthday Party Demon. We’re back with Tina, a high-school sophomore navigating the usual teen chaos… plus the complication of her best friend now being an actual demon who looks like she stepped out of a Delia’s catalog. The vibe is campy in the best way.

What really hooked me here wasn’t just the demon antics. Wendy Dalrymple layers in late 90s and early 00s references that hit my Millennial brain like a warm coat of Vanilla Frosting lip gloss. Even though the book is geared toward younger readers, the nostalgia is such a value-add that older readers will coast right through it with a grin.

It’s light, fun, a little wicked, and exactly the kind of quick seasonal read you can knock out in one sitting. If you like your holiday stories with a dash of chaos and a wink of Y2K flavor, this one delivers.

Many thanks to NetGalley for an E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love Wendy Dalrymple's YA horror novels. She understands high school girls and teen angst. Tina, Eve and Lacey are back! Lacey, AKA Zoey is now collecting high school girls for her demonic clique of bot-teens.

The book is fun. The dialogue is spot on. There were great descriptions of music, clothes and honest insecurities. Tina questions her sexuality and the complications of fitting in and finding her place. The teen friendships were heartwarming and loving. I appreciated Tina's friendship and collaboration with boys. All three teens felt mature and their unified front to dissolve the clique and bring back Lacey felt genuine. Using the Christmas season as a way to complete the story was perfect and atmospheric. I'm really looking forward to reading more from Wendy Dalrymple.

Christmas Party Demon is a sequel to Birthday Party Demon starring Tina, Eve and Deon from that book trying to stop Zoey from taking over the school. How? By throwing a Christmas party!
This one was even more fun than the first book! I love Tina as a main character. She may be scared of what's going on, but she's going to fight to save her friends anyway. We get more 90's nostalgia (the mall, Jncos, Nirvana, etc), demons and a great Christmas party. What more could you ask for?
I recommend this to anyone who likes fun, kinda campy horror, 90's nostalgia and books about demon possessions and the power of friendship.

Christmas Party Demon
By Wendy Dalrymple
Published by Max Axe Media

Happy holidays, here come the Christmas party demons!

Tina’s a normal 10th grader in a normal California town- not quite sure where she fits in, but she’s learning what she likes. Her learning curve is about to get much steeper as she is forced to confront a demon that has possessed almost all of her friends. Will she figure it all out before the demon comes for her?

Christmas Party Demon is a fun read that evokes the teen horror flicks of 80s and 90s and throws in a dash of John Hughes and Clueless. This book is a fun read for preteens to teens and any adult who just wants a quick trip down nostalgia lane.

My thanks to Mad Axe Media who allowed me to read this ARC in exchange for my review.

These are such fun 90s novellas! I loved "Birthday Party Demon" and was so excited to receive "Christmas Party Demon" from NetGalley and Mad Axe Media. This book follows Tina, Eve, and Lacey three best friends who are sophomores in high school in the 90s. After getting trapped in a Delia*s Magazine in the first book Lacey has become a demon. She's slowly turning the whole sophomore class into her demon followers! Tina has to end this by doing an excorcism at her Christmas Party. I read this in just a few hours and was a great holiday read! I'd recommend this to anyone who loved R.L. Stine growing up!

What happens when your former best friend is possessed by a demon at your Sweet Sixteenth?

Well months later you throw a Christmas party complete with karaoke and an exorcism ritual, duh!

This is another fun novella packed with 90's nostalgia which follows directly on from Birthday Party Demon.

If you're looking for a fun YA Horror series that doesn't take itself too seriously and has demonic teens that look like they've came straight out of a magazine then this is for you!

Thank you Mad Axe Media for kindly gifting me an arc.
