Sagebrush Cowboys #4

Brooks:

Another pleasant time spent in Sagebrush, this time in the middle of winter, with two new characters: Brooks and Rowan. Brooks is a loner who has lived in Sagebrush since he was born. Rowan arrives from the city, having lost everything, in search of peace and quiet. Rowan and Brooks couldn't be more different, yet they share a common love of animals. Rowan discovers a new life, a new environment and a new way of doing his job as a vet, with patients different from those he could meet in the city. And with that, he learns to love the quiet of the small town, the life and rhythm very different from this kind of environment.
Brooks has always denied his sexuality, but Rowan forces him to confront his fears - the fear of revealing his sexuality, but above all the fear of losing yet another loved one. Brooks has not been spared by life, and it takes all Rowan's perseverance and a lot of courage on his part for him to open up to the possibility of finding happiness with Rowan.
I love the dynamic of the characters, seeing them make mistakes only to overcome them and fight against themselves to accept the happiness that lies ahead.
Another beautiful story of love and courage, in this intriguing city.
The writing is masterful, with precise characterizations, descriptions of landscapes and plenty of spice and heat.

----

Sweet mm romance, with city boy vet Rowan, and grumpy isolated cowboy Brooks. I loved the story and atmosphere, and how the supportive friendship group links to the other couples stories.
The snowed in / forced proximity tension worked so well, and I enjoyed the patience, honesty and courage.
Great characters, great spice, and swoony small town vibes.

Awesome book/series

Love this book along with the whole series - each couple has their own story and problems that go with their individual story but this book introduces the new vet and brings all the couples into this story - but Brooks & Rowan have a lot of their own history to unload and to fix before love being a them back!!! Can't wait for the next book!!!!!
Thank you - Lori

This is book 4 in this series – and I keep loving it. I devoured this book. There is not one thing I didn't like. I could understand Brooks so well. Left by everyone he loved, he built thick walls around him. And then there is Rowan, you just have to love Rowan. No necessary drama, but all the emotions, and understanding, amazing side characters, and what I love the most is you see the characters from the previous books again. There is a wonderful HEA waiting for you, with some struggles along the way. Loved it.

Maintenant, DUSTIIIIIIIIIIIIN !

4.25 stars!

This is book four in the author’s Sagebrush Cowboys series and features Rowan, the new town vet and Brooks, the town hermit.

Brooks preferred his own company to that of most anyone else, had in fact, worked hard to keep it that way. Caring for someone always resulted in pain and he’d had more than enough of that in the last twenty years, thank you very much; he was happier alone. Until he had to call the new city boy vet to come check on his cow and new calf, that is. There was something about Rowan that made his cherished quiet feel lonely but better lonely than the pain of being left alone again.

Rowan left Austin after his ex got him fired from his job and moved to the little town of Sagebrush, TX as the new vet but was a little lonely until he met the grumpy rancher and a few other couples who called Sagebrush home like Beau and Lucas, Logan and Dakota and Colt and Eli from the three previous books in the series. (And speaking of Colt, I loved him in Blood and Bravado—here, not so much. He came across as a fickle, attention seeking, player in this one which was a turnoff for me.) Rowan couldn’t help but be attracted to the taciturn rancher but Brooks kept running hot and cold frustrating the young vet to no end—did Brooks even KNOW what he wanted?

I loved Rowan, he was the sweetest guy! Brooks, he was ok, I definitely felt for him, but I thought he was a little wishy washy. Rowan had to forgive so much with him and struggled to know where he stood. I really wanted better for Rowan. All in all, even though it wasn’t my favorite, I enjoyed the book. Brooks did finally get his head out of his rear end and became someone worthy of sweet Rowan so I was happy for that but it cost it. 4.25 stars!

I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.

Brooks is a grumpy man who prefers to be alone - for some good reasons. Rowan had his life turned upside down, but still wants connection and community. Both are very good at what they do and are strong, determined men. There is an instant attraction that Rowan would like to persue, but Brooks shuts him down. They cross paths many times, more than Brooks would like, but it isn't until an accident and an unexpected blizzard happens that changes begin to happen. Honest conversations lead to friendship, companionship, and some sexy times. When the storm passes, Brooks tries to get back to the way he was before, but Rowan has awakened something in him - hope and possibilities. For Rowan, now that he knows the man and the softness beneath the grump, he's more determined than ever to keep him and patience is the key. An unexpected visit for Rowan sends Brooks back to being closed off and blocking all communication. With a little help, Rowan figures out a way to get Brooks to speak to him, laying everything on the line, and hoping for the best. Genuine love finds a way to bind these two deserving men, and leads them to a sweetly satisfying HEA.
There are many secondary characters that add depth to this story and help our MC's along the way.

I received an ARC that has some typos and a couple inconsistencies that will hopefully be resolved for the final copy. This review is my honest opinion.

The Sagebrush Cowboys series is a delightful exploration of romance in a small Texas town. This fourth installment delves into the lives of Rowan, a veterinarian seeking a fresh start, and Brooks, a reclusive rancher hiding his true self for too long. Both characters face personal challenges that are beautifully woven together, highlighting the theme of love and acceptance.

Rowan, freshly blacklisted from his profession in Austin by his ex-boyfriend, embraces the opportunity to buy a retiring veterinarian’s small practice in Sagebrush. Brooks, a lifelong resident of this close-knit community, is deeply connected to his animals yet emotionally distant from the people around him. Their paths cross when Rowan tends to Brooks’ calf, igniting emotions that Brooks has buried for years. As each chapter unfolds, readers witness the struggle and triumph of two men learning to embrace their feelings.

One of the most lovable aspects of the Sagebrush Cowboys series is how the characters from the previous books are carried over, and new characters are added. The LGBT community in this small Texas town showcases the power of friendship and support, helping each other through their respective journeys. With every interaction, the bond among characters adds depth to the storyline and reinforces the notion that love can flourish in the most unexpected places.

Reflecting on my journey through all four books, I’m eager to dive into the next chapter of the Sagebrush Cowboys saga.

Brook has lived in Sagebrush since birth, having lost everyone who meant something to him, now he lives alone thinking this is the way to protect his heart. What he doesn't expect is Rowan, the new vet who smashes down the walls he has created.
I really enjoyed this story, understanding why Brook was the way he was and I enjoyed reading about his daily routine on his ranch. Rowan was also an instantly liked character and hearing his story on why he ended up in Sagebrush showed how brave he was to continue doing the job he loved and he never forced Brook to do something he didn't want to do.
The snowstorm gave me one of my now favourite troupes and I loved watching them get closer. The calf that caused them to meet in the first place had me laughing at his antics until it required a vet and then I wanted to know if he was OK.
The usual miscommunication but I really loved the makeup. Dolly was her usually lovely meddling self and I loved how all the characters met up.
I know who is next and I cannot wait as I have been wanting his HEA from the moment he was introduced.

I've fallen totally, hopelessly, head-over-heels in love! The only problem is, I don't know who stole my heart more: Brooks or Rowan?
Their story is so consuming that I literally read it in one sitting.
I genuinely have no words to describe how the small town of Sagebrush and the quiet, lonely rancher, Brooks—who loved his animals more than himself—absolutely captivated me this afternoon.
I'm so glad that my lengthy research into what book to read next led me to discover this absolute gem. And I'm so happy that Rowan came to Sagebrush and started to break through the wall Brooks had built around his heart.
Brooks is a wonderful hero who has experienced loss and suffered a lot during his childhood and teenage years, and I just desperately want to give him a hug. Meanwhile, Rowan is the perfect partner for Brooks—supportive, funny, uplifting, and, most importantly, someone who shows him love. ❤️
This is the best book I've read in weeks!

Thoroughly Enjoyable

I was immediately drawn into this story and could not put the book down. The ending was perfect and better than I ever thought possible. The supporting characters are very relatable and I especially loved how Dolly was so supportive of both Rowan and Brooks. My heart went out to poor Brooks and all that he’d endured in his past to make him the way he was. I could relate to all the feelings and heartfelt emotion that were so beautifully expressed by the author. Rowan was perfect - strong, supportive, kind and compassionate and I loved how he seized life with both hands and never wavered in his feelings for Brooks. This is the first book I’ve read in the Sagebrush series and I’ve just bought two more. This love story is extremely well written and I highly recommend it.

Saddles and Snowstorms is the fourth book in Atreus Rosewood's Sagebrush Cowboys series. Lots of tropes, city/country, sunshine/grumpy, trapped by a snowstorm. Trapped is actually my favorite. Rowan, Sagebrush's new vet is attracted to Brooks, a rancher with a small spread. Both have had some past trauma, except Rowan is determined to restart his life and Brooks has closed down.
Brooks is adorably grumpy. His most committed relationship is with his dog, Hank. Rowan is absolutely precious. His slow and gentle approach woks with nervous animals and skittish men. Lots of spice and angsty longing, pining. Hard work, but very deserved HEA.
And the cover alone will have readers grabbing it. Absolutely gorgeous.
I received an advanced copy from the author and this is my review.

Oh my lord, Atreus. Rowan is an all-purpose veterinarian who arrives in Sagebrush and starts practicing. Brooks is a cattle raiser, and, before too long, Rowan goes out to take care of one of Brooks' pregnant cows. Brooks has been something of a recluse, but Rowan softens him up - there's only a ten-year difference between their ages. Rowan is on his way to Brooks' spread when a bad snowstorm hits, and Rowan has to treat Brooks in addition to the calf he was on his way to treat. Then, sparks fly, and Brooks becomes quite attached to Rowan while they are snowbound together. Not even an advance from the clinic that fired Rowan in Austin tempts him to leave Sagebrush, and the two men start being seen together in public. As things should be, they fall in love.

I was so excited for this one! Of course I need to learn to manage my expectations.

I feel like there was a lot more sex in this one than the last one I read (book 2 ) ? So i ended up skimming a bit of those since I prefer to have more emotional connection building than just page after page of sex but thats personal preference!

Another personal preference? There needs to be a lot more pages of making up! At least some pages of Brooks making up for being an ass again, deep seeded trauma aside, I think the ending needed more page time of them settled after the week of no contact.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Brooks is a stubborn and grumpy rancher who tends to be solitary and pushes everyone away. Rowan is the new vet in town and is getting a fresh after leaving Austin, Texas. He bought the veterinary practice from an old vet who retired. Rowan is called out to Brooks's ranch and upon meeting Brooks, he's interested in the grumpy rancher. Brooks meets Rowan and his interest is sparked for the new vet. Now, it's just a matter of time before they take that next step.

Sweet romance during a bitter storm….

The new Veterinarian came to town,
and is adjusting. Brooks is an older, grumpy rancher who has to call for help.
The two men are attracted but Brooks is rejecting Rowan.
We see the brutal snowstorm hit and Rowan must go to help at the ranch, but the injured man is more of a priority than the injured calf.
Our guy saves them both. On the following days while being stuck together each man gives in to his desires.
We get great characters, more of the past stories, inner thoughts and hot sexy times.
When the storm ends, how will Brooks react.
ENJOY !

I loved the book, actually. I gave it a four out of five

Really only because one of the main characters repeated that "he just didn't do people" and variations of that statement so often that I would say, "Yes, we know," very time I read it. The story was good. The action episodes were good. The side characters were good. The crisis episodes were good. The spice was good. But if he said that he was shut down again, I would have moved on to the next book in the series. I know, I got picky.

Booooooo this one was rough. It was so damn inconsistent and I felt like I read the same sentence in a different format a hundred freaking times. Normally love me a ‘you’re an idiot’ woman character but in this one Dolly is simply doing all the thinking for these idiots. Also hated how they handled Brooks queerness.. that man was so clearly uncomfortable with it but instead of letting him figure it out in his own he was just pushed into accepting it and showing the whole town. There was a lot of wasted potential in this one

great potential but rushed

Brooks and Rowan were great characters with great storylines. The writing was just inconsistent, like it was rushed. Misspelled words, wrong names used in places, inconsistent descriptions, made it hard to read sometime. Not sure how a lot of this was not caught in editing. But again, probably my favorite characters of the series so far, just felt let down with the feeling it was rushed to get out.

There’s a story here somewhere

But it’s buried deeply beneath never-ending sex scenes. I don’t understand why writers of gay romance feel that they have to describe in huge detail what we all know: what goers where, how it feels, how we like the other guy to feel. Just show that and move on with the actual plot. I get it—it’s a lot easier to write sex scenes than develop an interesting plot.

Mr. Rosewood, great storytelling. Fine characters, fun in the snow that would curl anyone's toes, could you do another editorial run on your story. Nothing big is wrong, just small obvious errors. I don't notice most things, but using the wrong character's name during a mental discussion with oneself? Threw a stop into the reading, but I love this series and I loved this book.

Everybody should visit Sagebrush, Texas...**sigh**!!!😍😍😍

Gah...cowboy lovin'... amiright!? So sweet and sexy.😁 Rowan and Brooks are deeply flawed human beings that reach inside and squeeze your heart!💖 So well written you can feel them. It's a privilege to be in their world as they stumble around each other clueless. Or are they?🤔

There are no spoilers in this review. And I must say, that is very hard not to do. It would be so much easier to write about specific parts of the book to get someone to read it, but I dont want to ruin it. This one made my cry. It is suspenseful and you can practically feel the love and the want. I dont know what else to say to convince you to read this series.

A snowstorm brings two stubborn souls together… one more hurt and stubborn than the other, but will that be enough for their blossoming relationship? Read it and find out for yourself! I know the answer and I loved how it all worked out besides a few name mistakes in the reading. The story flowed well and didn’t disappoint.

Wonderful story of Rowan Walsh, a veterinarian starting over in Sagebrush, and Brooks Callahan, a recluse rancher. Loved these characters, felt for their struggles, and held my breath at times waiting to see what would happen next between these two. Highly recommend.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
I do love all of the Sagebrush cowboys but this one felt a bit rushed to me and I didn’t really feel the connection and chemistry between the mc’s.
Was still a cute read though.

That’s Different

Not the typical small town cowboy romance. Good character development with the city veterinarian and solitary cowboy, supported by a cast from the series. Ends with the anticipated happy ending, but a resolution a bit unexpected.

This was a great book. It was my first time reading Atreus Rosewood. Now I'm starting this series from book one and will probably read the whole lot! It was fun and light but with great character development and plenty of heat.
