Deanna Lilly is an award-winning, Amazon bestselling author of heartwarming, clean romance filled with hope, healing, found family, swoony heroes, and happily-ever-afters.

A former literacy and special education teacher, Deanna spent 21 years in Florida public schools before taking a leap of faith and sharing the stories that had been living in her imagination. When she isn’t writing, Deanna can usually be found hiking in the Blue Ridge or Smoky Mountains, relaxing at the beach, reading in her hammock, baking something sweet, or drinking entirely too much tea. She has a particular weakness for anything peach-flavored.

Deanna lives on Florida’s west coast with her husband and is an empty nester with three amazing grown girls. She loves connecting with readers and sharing the behind-the-scenes adventures of writing and publishing.

I received an ARC copy from the author and though I wasn’t required to write a review, I had to offer my honest, voluntary impression after reading it!

Deanna has brought back a lot of the main characters from her series in this one which was a totally satisfying read which I really enjoyed!

Gwen has been like a mother hen to three other women since they were roommates and continued to be when they all moved to Hickory Falls. Two of the four are coming home and those two found love first as they settled in with people they knew when they used to live there.

Gwen’s running a coffee shop but she has secrets she hasn’t shared with the others other than her youngest “ sister” who knows because of their shared past.

When she is asked to go undercover to expose a corrupt doctor she does so but it alienates her from her other three “sisters” because she can’t tell them why she would be seen with someone like this guy.
Then a new man comes into town who likes her and the feeling is mutual but she can’t do anything about it that would expose her cover.

Through it all the attraction lingers and finally she is able to wrap up the case but she wonders if this new guy is too good to be true and if she can trust him and her herself because of her past.

When things seem to be over the crisis a new one arises which puts them all in danger once again but she finds her questions answered by his resolve and actions towards her.

I really enjoyed this book! Deanna writes heartfelt stories that will find you totally immersed in them and you’ll be reading the book faster and faster to find out what happens next!

I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this book! You’ll find it hard to put down as the story will keep your attention riveted to it to its conclusion!

If you’ve read Deanna’s other series’ this will be like coming home as you get to read about what is happening with them at the same time as this story plays out! I strongly encourage you to pick one and start it next because I feel confident you’ll want to finish that series and then go on to another series!

I have totally enjoyed every book I have read by Deanna and have no problem recommending each and every one! These books are no spice, romantic, action/ adventure stories that will keep your attention throughout the read and you’ll want more when you’ve finished it!

started out good

This book started out so good, I
felt like there was a disconnect about halfway through. After that it seemed to drag on and on. 😫

I received a free copy of the book via Booksprout, and the following review is entirely my own voluntary, and honest opinion.

If “Nursing Flames for the Firefighter” made me curious about Gwen, then “Brewing Love with the Bookworm” gave me everything I didn’t even know I needed.

This second visit to Hickory Falls doesn’t just continue the story – it deepens it. The timeline overlaps with the first book, which means we finally get to see familiar events from Gwen’s perspective. Her choices, her distance, the tension with her “soul-sisters” – it all makes sense now in a way that adds real emotional weight.

Gwen has always been the strong one, the protector holding everything together. She runs her café, cares for her found family, and carries burdens she doesn’t share. Watching her go undercover, knowing what it costs to her relationships, only highlights how far she’ll go to keep others safe.

And then there’s Jake.

I love that the bookworm in the title isn’t Gwen, but Jake. It’s a small twist, but it perfectly sets the tone for who he is. Quiet, thoughtful, observant – the kind of man who notices what others miss. And more importantly, he sees Gwen for who she really is, beyond all the walls she’s built.

What stood out most is how he approaches her. He’s patient without being passive, persistent without crossing boundaries. He doesn’t try to fix her or force anything – he simply stays. And that steady presence becomes exactly what Gwen needs. Their relationship is a true slow burn. Nothing feels rushed or forced. Every step forward is earned, and every moment of connection feels meaningful because of it.

The suspense carries over from the first book with the investigation about Dr. Sutton, but it doesn’t stop there. Just when things seem to settle, a new threat emerges. At times, this part felt a bit crowded and slightly drawn out, but the payoff makes it worth it – especially when Gwen finally finds the courage to trust Jake with her whole heart.

As we have come to expect from the author, the sense of community is one of the strongest elements. The friendships, the loyalty, the way people show up for each other, it all feels genuine. Hickory Falls isn’t just a setting – it’s a place that feels lived in and deeply connected.

One thing I especially don’t want to overlook is how naturally faith is woven into the story. It’s not just something the characters talk about – it’s something they live out. You see it in their choices, their sacrifices, the way they treat each other, and how they hold onto hope even when things are uncertain.

Overall, this was a deeply satisfying read. It has everything I enjoy in a romance – faith, slow-burn chemistry, emotional depth, and characters who feel real. And yes, Jake might just be one of my favourite heroes in the series. If you’ve read the first book, this is a must. If not, I’d still recommend starting there to fully appreciate how everything connects. Either way, Hickory Falls is quickly becoming a place I don’t ever want to leave.

This full length (379 pages) protected small town romance is jam-packed full of intriguing action, small town closeness and the most swoon worthy romantic hero of the year (in my opinion). Returning to Hickory Falls, the small town that is protected by a group of mountain men, nicknamed Guardians of Hickory Falls or GHF, the reader is introduced to a multitude of returning characters including Gwen Pierce the new owner of Gathering Grounds and her roommates/soul sisters Harper, Becky, Anika and Sarah now married to Eric Stoll. Eric and his fellow mountain men Tom Holgan and Zach Harrington are the main force behind GHF but Gwen will soon find herself teaming with this group of men to protect the citizens of Hickory Falls. While doing so she will also find herself distracted by a new resident in town Jake Anderson, bookstore manager and friend to Sarah, Eric and Tom. Jake lays eyes on Gwen at Gathering Grounds and instantly knows she’s special and determines to be her “safe” place, supporter, friend until he can be more and brings on the romance in full force. Let me let him do the talking: “Let me know when you get tired of men who don’t see your worth and value you for the amazing woman you are, Gwen.” “Your presence lights up the room, your smile warms this lonely heart. Always be you, because the way you are is perfect.” “I would never give up on you Gwen”,…”I’ve imagined what our future could be like—-and it looks pretty good to me. I’ll wait until you can see it too.” “I’m taking the lead on this one sweetheart.” Then he closed the distance and proceeded to take her breath away with his kiss.“ This is his words but his actions speak much louder. Yes, you will love Jake the bookworm but is that all he really is?
This book offers so much! Not only does it have the undercover investigation of a corrupt doctor but later another incident causes the GHF team plus the BraveHeart Security team to scramble to find a threat. It also has not one wedding but three and I won’t spoil it by letting you know whose. It has all the antics and closeness that comes with good friends, military buddies, family and neighbors in small towns. But if that doesn’t sale you on the book, the clean sweet romance in this book, with special playlists picked specifically to make a point, love notes slipped in little places, nostalgic gifts given with true love and meaning behind them, and a man who truly sees a woman, giving her the safe place, the protection she needs and a woman being willing to give her all to the man she loves so he has a place to call home, the pure love in this book should do it.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have loved both the Hickory Falls and Mountain Men small town series by Deanna Lilly, and this book is the best so far. This book, and the two previous ones actually run concurrently. It takes great skill to write three novels with overlapping events and keep each one fresh and standalone. This book brings in all the previous characters and reveals more information about the secret identity of some people and the history of the Town.
Gwen has been the leader of the "sister group" that moved into Hickory Falls, two women returning home and two women looking for a new start. Gwen and Anika both have secrets and trauma in their pasts, and we finally get to learn more about Gwen. Because she is fierce, smart, and protective of her "sisters" she agrees to go undercover, seeking to become the girlfriend of a suspect. This causes distress for her sisters and her friends, but she's been through it before, and knows how to handle it. What she can't handle is the new bookstore owner, Jake, who really sees her, and wants to know her better. But she's committed to playing the girlfriend of a terrible man, and she's not a person to trust others at all. Jake is a wonderful hero, sweet, strong, patient, romantic, trusting of Gwen despite appearances. I think he is my favorite hero in this series, which has had some outstanding male characters.
This book has romance, intrigue, sweet moments, mystery, strong secondary characters, and beautiful descriptive writing. Just when it seems like the story is ending, another threat emerges, and the story takes off again. But Jake and Gwen do get their HEA.
This book is technically a standalone, but reading this will be a better experience if you have read the previous three books. And reading it will be a spoiler for the previous books as well. But, if you are only going to buy one book, make it this one, so you can get to know Jake! Wow, you will want to take him home.

This book grabs a hold of your heart so tight you will not want to leave . They both deceive but not with malice and besides she feels that he already has key people in his corner so he must be a safe bet. But she still is there taking things slow ,seeing how things flow ,but you know he hasn’t put a foot wrong. Is he too good to be true? She’s asking but he should really be the one asking as secrets ? She has plenty ,but that’s all elementary…Hickory Falls’ bustling cafe ,may as well be the NAAFI there’s enough personnel to fill out the ranks . She owes many thanks to those around her ,still there’s others who do astound her. There’s her found family and they always will be her number one priority as well as secrets of and about her family. She’s a barista, he’s the bookworm next door. They get to know each other more and more and she finds that there’s more to this guy than meets the eye and her friends are learning a thing or two from him!? Well he must be something elite and complete ,fit to compete against these hunks who she’s seen tear chunks from mightier men than him,but he may not be as big with the bulk but he’s not dim , his reactions and his strength smooth as silk . She thought she might be headed for a fall ,but not quite her surrender and all. I had a ball as well as bawl ,reading this ,it was heaven…in fact bliss.Brilliant story,it’s so immersive and endearing ,in the end I was tearing . Really love these stories of Deanna Lilly’s . She writes with such passion and grace. I really enjoy everything she writes such delight and you can tell the backgrounding is there and she’s followed up with facts a dedication to her craft to be exact.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I came back to Hickory Falls for the comfort—and stayed for Gwen and Jake’s slow-burning, quietly beautiful love story.
This book was like wrapping myself in a soft flannel blanket, sipping hot coffee, and watching two people fumble their way toward something real. Gwen is the kind of heroine I adore—fiercely loyal, strong to a fault, and hiding more than just the café’s best-kept secrets. She’s all edges and walls, but you feel the weight she carries. And Jake? Oh, bless him. He’s gentle in a world that doesn’t always reward that. Thoughtful, patient, and the kind of man who sees through the tough exterior without trying to bulldoze it.
I loved how their connection wasn’t rushed—it simmered. There’s that dance between trust and fear, secrets and safety. And as someone who appreciates a romance built on quiet strength instead of instant fireworks, this story hit just right. Their chemistry isn’t flashy—it’s earned. And that made every shared look and lingering moment feel even more special.
There’s a little mystery, a lot of heart, and the kind of found family that makes you want to pull up a chair in Gwen’s café and stay awhile. Hickory Falls continues to feel like home—messy, charming, and full of people worth rooting for.
If you’re like me and crave clean, heartfelt romance with substance, depth, and characters who earn their HEA one tender step at a time, then Brewing Love with the Bookworm is going to melt you in all the best ways.
Highly recommend—just make sure your coffee’s hot and your heart’s ready. 🖤☕📖.

Do you enjoy books that are filled with drama, action, danger, suspense, seedy characters, secrets, mayhem, intrigue and more? If so, you must read Deanna Lilly’s latest book, Brewing Love with the Bookworm. You will lose track of time while reading this book. The characters are intense and there’s secrets that will have you gasping out loud. These characters are described in such a way that you feel as if you know them. Gwen and Jake are my two favorite characters in this book. There’s just something about them that breeds familiarity and wanting to get to spend time with them. Don’t you just love when an author brings you into the story?! This was not the type of story that I was expecting, but I’m so glad Deanna wrote this story. It’s intense and dangerous for the characters and had me gasping out loud many times. This book would be a great Hallmark movie! Do not miss this wonderful story. Set aside some time when you won’t be interrupted by other things so you can get lost in this wonderfully written story. In my opinion, this is the best book she’s written, yes, it was that good!! I’ll apologize for not giving out more details about the story, but I want you to read this book and be just as surprised and caught off guard as I was. I really enjoy the Hickory Falls series of books. Each one has a great story line with great characters. As you are reading them, you get to learn more about the characters as they cross each book. This story was so sweet. I love the way the author is able to craft a story that has romance, excitement, a little mystery and a lot of good characters that are so likeable you wish you were part of the story. This one was no different. As Gwen run her coffee shop she also is helping in catching a bad doctor undercover. Then Jake moves into town and Gwen knows there is something a little different about him but there is also a whole lot of goodness that she wants to know better. They go through a lot in the town but in the end they get to confess their love for each other. Secrets are revealed and their life just got better. In each book I’ve read by the author, I’ve fallen in love with the leading man. Who wouldn’t want a great looking man that treats women the way they should be treated and then some more

Full of suspense, mystery,, tension and romance, this book pulls you into the story and the lives of the inhabitants of Hickory Falls. From the start there's something unknown and mysterious about Gwen. She keeps others at arms length except for her "sisters", Harper, Becky and Anika. However, in Hickory Falls, for some, there's no such thing. Soon Tom, Eric, Zach (the GHF) as well as Tim are wrapped in a dangerous game, along with Gwen. Then Jake enters the picture, complicating matters for Gwen almost beyond recognition, and sending her on an emotional journey she's definately not prepped for. Jake is the strong, unimposing, quietly grounded bookworm managing the bookstore next door. Yet, as the subtrafuge and Secrets start to unfold, it seems Jake is so much more than what appears on the cover. If you enjoy a bit of mystery and intrigue in your romance this book is a sure Fire winner.

I voluntarily reviewed a gift copy of this book. Can't wait for the next book in the series! Happy Reading Y'all 📚

Is a sweet clean small town, secret identity, cinnamon roll hero, romance with a touch of suspense and no cliffhanger.
Some of the lines I really like --- “By all means. You’re like an ant in a boot store.” --- “Perspective rarely shifts with noise. But the right words, whispered at the right time, can turn the tide of a life.” --- “It’s a rare fool who thinks cruelty proves intelligence or superiority.” ---- “Let me know when you get tired of men who don’t see your worth and value you for the amazing woman you are, Gwen. There are still a few of us who do.” -- “Your presence lights up the room, your smile warms this lonely heart. Always be you, because the you you are is perfect.” --- “Now you know I’m not too soft to handle you. And I’m not so hard that I’ll break you. Whatever your past holds, I can handle that too. I promise.” ---
What's Mrs. Bradshaw up to? Who cut Sarah? These and other questions will all be answered.
I loved Gwen and Jake's story and I'm sure you will too. I've loved everyone of her books that I've read and I can't wait to read her next book.

Finding the one who sees you

When Gwen first met Jake, she appeared to be in a relationship with Dr. Sutton. He sensed that she needed protection from him. He became her friend who offered a hug when she needed one and watched to ensure her safety. Every morning he stopped in for coffee. And many evenings he was there at closing, sometimes walking her upstairs to her apartment. But Gwen was only involved with Sutton to gain information on his illegal dealings. Once he and his associates were arrested, she was free. Jake took his chance at a "more than friends" relationship. It took her awhile to be all in, but he told her he was patient and would never stop loving her. Every Tuesday night he sang love songs to her at the coffee shop. Giving the specific songs he sang, it almost felt like we were present in the moment. The plot was great, the characters of Hickory Falls are always entertaining. This is a story of finding trust and love and someone who fits perfectly. I really enjoyed it. In fact I was so caught up in the story that I realized I was still reading at 3 am. This is a beautiful story of finding the one you waited for all your life.

I enjoyed returning to Hickory Falls for a smooth blend of romance and suspense that's a journey of love, duty, facing obstacles, revealing secrets, and putting down roots. Brewing Love with the Bookworm made me think of a good Lifetime movie with lots of heart. As in the previous book, Nursing Flames for the Firefighter, there are familiar faces, a few surprises, cozy vibes, and reminders of God's provision and grace.

Gwen is an awesome character with many layers. Being a protective sister is top of her priorities. I love her confident, caring personality. Jake is a huge green flag, a cinnamon roll MMC who is definitely swoon worthy. He's patient, protective, and supportive, wooing Gwen with songs, thoughtfulness, and quiet strength. I love that Jake brings such comfort that the protector feels safe. They're perfect together.

As an advanced reader, I'm excited for others to dive into this book, and I can't wait for the next one. If you like no spice, sweet romances with dashes of suspense, protective men and women, slow burn love with swoony moments, found family and HEAs, you should read Brewing Love with the Bookworm.

This book was pure magic! I stayed up all night reading it. I just couldn't put it down!!! Jake, swoony, wonderful, bookworm, so many layers to him, amazing Jake, was one of my fav MMC that I've read in a while. He was surprising in all the best ways and I couldn't get enough of him! Gwen, is this super protective, kick butt, loving, amazing, coffee shop owner FMC that i want to be like!!! She may be hiding things but you know its for protective reasons. All you want for her is her HEA. She takes care of everyone else. She deserves it! This book was so great. It had mysteries, former military protectors, bookworms who can sing (swoon), bad guys, secrets, covert ops, the Knight family from another series, weddings and so much more. This book has it all and then surprises you with more! It was fantastic! So loved it!!!

Gwen is the oldest of the five women who have bonded as sisters. Anika is the youngest of the five, Gwen treats her and feels as though she were her own daughter. Gwen is a former special operative with both parents in their older age, still working undercover for the government. A new Dr. was introduced to us in her last book, which was not a nice person. In this story, we'll find all the loose ends tying up as the mountian men are an active force of Rangers protecting their homes. As Gwen digs into the new Dr and the new bookstore owner, she receives a warning to stop digging since the Rangers out rank her. Gwen is brought into their fold and goes undercover to expose the new Dr. What Gwen doesn't know is that the new bookstore owner has fallen head over heals for her coffee, and cinnamon rolls is also one of the Rangers group. When Jake tells her about his distant grandparents, he shows her a wedding ring that his grandfather had inscribed inside the ring "Forever Thine", the entire setting was very touching. This is a captivating could not put down book, fulfilling all criteria for a slow-burn, rom-com, espionage story. This is Deanna's crowning glory of this series, but it leaves us with a to-be-continued feel. Definitely Five Stars, if possible, a six star.

This small town draws in people for a quiet, peaceful life, a refuge. It's surrounded with a lot of protectors, some of them can be found in other related books. Gwen, the cafe owner, wants to left behind her previous life, but she agrees for one last secret op to protect her loved ones and the town from looming danger. She is strong, fierce, caring. Jake, after traveling around the world, wants to stay in a calm place. He is kind, gentle, trustworthy, with many talents. Jake becomes Gwen's distraction from the case. She has strong feelings, but not sure if he is enough for her, suitable for every aspect of her life. When you think you can relax after case closed, there is a new danger around the corner. In this book more than one person gives great hugs, I need some of their comfort hugs.

What a ride!

Secrets abound in the small town of Hickory Falls! Jake and Gwen become good neighbors, friends, and slowly more. They are good together, and although Jake loves her first, her love grows as he tenderly cares for her heart. Gwen must decided if her secrets will be safe with Jake before she gives her heart away.

Jake is a gentle, strong man with hidden strength behind a kind and compassionate heart. Gwen is more jaded but learns that Jake is special, and he is exactly what she didn’t know she needed. Their story is sweet and clean with an excellent HEA.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

When the wife of one of the men who helps protect the town is silently attacked and the h, who has been made acting sheriff for the day during a festival that was moved to their town, she and the H take after a man that was seen running away. ‘Brewing Love with the Bookworm’ was thrilling. The riveting plot involved espionage, suspense, covert planning, and the bookworm and the barista hanging out together, trying to protect the “soul-sisters,” courting danger, waiting for the takedown, well…here’s a twist, confessions, and falling in love.
Moreover, Gwen and Jake, the protagonists, were clearly meant for each other and exuded chemistry. I loved the surprises that cropped up about them. Additionally, I appreciated the author’s vivid descriptions, which included imagery, figurative language, and the right word choices that created a tension-filled tone that transitioned smoothly into a lively one. Overall, I liked the engrossing narrative.

This was a cozy, clean romance with just the right blend of small-town charm, slow-burn tension, and a dash of intrigue. I really liked Gwen and Jake, both had emotional depth, and their connection felt sweet and sincere. The café setting and close-knit community gave me total Hallmark vibes (in the best way), and the added mystery kept things moving.

At times, the pacing dragged a little, and I wished for a bit more payoff in some of the emotional moments, but overall, it was a heartwarming read with lovable characters and a satisfying ending. Great pick if you’re in the mood for a gentle love story with a touch of suspense.

This is story is a slow burn love story that is filled with faith, suspense, friendship, and romance! I think every woman I know will fall in love with the MMC, he’s just that awesome! And we’re not just talking about looks here. And I just wanted to wrap the MFC up in a big old fashioned hug, she tugged at this mother’s heart with all she’s been through. The book is well written and the characters have multiple layers to them. And I enjoyed seeing what’s going on in the lives of other characters from the series, although you can read this story without reading the others first as it is a standalone. I read an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions in this review are truthful and my own. I recommend this book!

I received a digital ARC of this book. I love Deanna’s books. If you like Hallmark movies you will too! Although this one also has some mystery thrown in there too. This book is book 3 in a series but can technically be read as a stand alone, however there are cross characters from her other series as well that you will get spoilers too. You will love all the characters in Hickory Falls, and want to move there. Gwen runs the local coffee shop, but has a secret past. Jake is the new-in-town bookstore owner and seems to have some secrets of his own. Can their attraction hold up after all the secrets are revealed? You’ll have to read to find out! Trigger warning: physical abuse in a relationship.

Book 2 of the Hickory Falls series. Can be read as a standalone but for maximum enjoyment read the books in series order.

'Brewing Love with the Bookworm is a clean romance filled with slow-burn chemistry, small-town mystery, chosen family, and one fiercely loyal barista with everything to lose.'

The characters drove the storyline and they were so very appealing and likeable and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and exciting and well paced. World building continues to excel and impress. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Grab a copy, kick back and enjoy!.

This storyline was amazing. Hickory Falls is full of people with all kinds of secrets. Some are good and helpful to those around them, while others have secrets that are pure evil. Jake is concerned by Gwen's choice of boyfriends, and he is determined to stay close to protect her. Gwen needs to trap a dangerous man to save not only her friends but the town from his plans. But is he the only threat that is lurking close? How has Gwen misjudged Jake, and is there more to him than meets the eye? Each book in this series reveals more about the people who live in Hickory Falls and their close bond.

Interesting book set in an idyllic mountain town. A place full of secrets, unselfish protectors, and loyalty. A coffee shop/cafe owner who is a honeypot, a friend who has a secret identity, a book shop manager with surprising talents, and a network of ex-military who keep the mountain and town under constant surveillance...all fascinating yet perplexing at times. I enjoyed the plot which was intricate, yet often confusing. I struggled keeping supporting character names straight at times, wishing for more dissimilar names. It was an exciting, passionate story that left lots of room for possibilities.

Loved it! Sometimes the love bug comes calling just when you least expect it, and when you are not looking for it. This is something that Gwen and Jake will slowly learn.

It was a slow burn romance with chemistry that builds between the characters, and which will worm its way into your heart as you read it.

This clean romance had everything I enjoy in a good romance including a small town/community, swoony moments, nostalgia and also a little intrigue added in to make it even more interesting.

There is also a little lesson in that you should never judge a book by its cover, literally.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I love the "don't judge a book by its cover" theme in Deanna Lilly's Brewing Love with the Bookworm! This book is a tightly choreographed dance between love and suspense. The romantic tension between Jake and Gwen swept me into their story. Gwen is a fierce protector, and I love how the mysterious Jake is like velvet covered steel. He is just what Gwen needs and never knew she wanted. Jake is so solid in his faith as he helps Gwen get back to hers. Their love story is so beautifully written that I couldn't force myself to put it down until I had turned the last page... and even then, I didn't want it to end!
