Only Molters can see others Molters. They blend in well because to humans they look human. For Molters secrecy is paramount. They kill any human who finds out about their existence.
But among Molters there were always rumors that a half human half Molter was born. It wasn’t supposed to be possible. Molters feared he would grow up and seek revenge for the murder of his human father. They were right. The half Molter is Ash and he can see who is a Molter. Fortunately for him he looks like any other human to them.
Ash has found a hotbed of Molters in Philadelphia and he’s infiltrating their world, their secrets and investigating what sinister business goes on at their pharmaceutical company. As he gets closer to their secretive world Ash must struggle with his dual nature, summoning the best of his human and Molter sides to strike at their very heart.
Molters is a one-of-a-kind thriller about revenge, paranoia, trust, loyalty and ultimately what it means to be human.
There is SO much to like about this book! If you like the sound of great prose, plot, theme, and characters, you should definitely give Molters a read!
Great prose... check! Highly sophisticated writing without coming across as trying too hard, you can tell this is the author's true writing voice and I personally loved it! All the descriptions of the setting genuinely made me feel like I was right next the mc going along for the ride. The author's use of small details to describe even mundane places like urban neighborhoods and streets made the city in which the story takes place feel like more than just a backdrop for the plot; it almost felt like another character because I could envision everything so vividly. Tonally, there were some instances of sarcasm and humor which were much appreciated given their contrast with the high-stakes plot. Which brings us to:
Great plot... check! This book is so well paced! So much happened in so little space in each chapter, but it never felt rushed. Not too slow for anyone who enjoys suspense and action, and not too fast for anyone who likes to sit with what they read and have time to really think about what's going on. And soooo much goes on! The author does a spectacular job of building suspense, setting up questions to be answered, and giving us information about the Molters and their secrets that we get just enough to be intrigued but not too much all at once that we can guess what's going on. So many unique ideas, plot beats, and twists happen at unexpected times... you'll definitely want to pay attention to every word!
Great theme/characters... check! If you like books that go deeper than the plot and really explore the human condition, this book is definitely for you. The author subtlety weaves in moments of reflection the mc has when contrasting his human half and his Molter half, and these were some of my favorite parts of the book even despite so much action and mystery. The mc's arc is unique and satisfying... I found myself rooting for him more and more as the book went on, and we all know that can't be said for every book! Back to the theme, I appreciated the way it made me slowly to look into mysef as the mc looked into himself; interacting with a book in this kind of way is something I always look for but can't be found all too often in a subtle and effective way, but here it is!
So I definitely recommend giving Molters a try! It delivers an original and exciting story that you won't want to miss!
"I took this to mean I was not meant to be. My very existence was a contradiction that shouldn't have happened. Humans don't know about Molters, but to know myself was to know both. Our two worlds were not meant to come together. But here I am."
Molters is a page-turning novel, but doesn't sacrifice substance for thrill. Through the story, Ash guides the reader through the hidden Molter society, but also guides them through his life. Ash views his experiences through an analytical and restrained Molter lens as well as through the human lens filled with empathy and sensation. Both ways of life have pros and cons, and this leads Ash to reflect on which facets of his personality are best for each situation. Any reader will be exposed to ideas they agree or disagree with, and curious readers might learn a thing or two. Plus, symbols like the Ricky Stick make the reader think more than simply ingesting.
The down-to-Earth tone and vocabulary of the book even seem to complement and characterize Ash in a way that makes him seem realistic (dare I say, human?) yet also Molter-like. Sentences switch from sarcastic and facetious to heavy and imploring as quickly as a half-Molter on a date, and that juxtaposition is what gives Molters special character.
I would certainly recommend Molters to anyone who enjoys fast-paced books, mysteries, or fiction in general.
Molters completely pulled me in from the first page. The world-building is rich and immersive, with just the right balance of mystery and depth. The main character is complex and relatable, and I found myself genuinely invested in his journey.
The pacing is spot-on, building tension in all the right places while leaving space for emotional resonance. The writing is both vivid and thoughtful.
Without giving too much away, Molters tackles themes of identity, transformation, and resilience in a fresh, unexpected way.
Highly recommend. This book is thought-provoking, emotionally layered, and wholly original. If you’re looking for a book that stays with you long after the final chapter, Molters delivers.
