A spicy bad boy/good girl, close proximity, sports romance from New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg
Our first meeting? He stood me up.
Our second chance encounter? I told him exactly what I thought of him.
Our third? It came with a bet (he lost) and an understanding that we’re stuck with one another.
It doesn’t matter that he’s Alexander Hardy—British soccer star extraordinaire, world-famous in every way, and a certified sex symbol. We come from two different worlds and live in two different realities. But all we need is one month.
The Help him rehab his reputation to the media and the masses, and in exchange, he’ll help my soccer academy and the underprivileged kids who idolize him.
That doesn’t mean I have to like him. Not his delicious accent, his sexy smirk or those storm cloud gray eyes. Not his incredibly fit body or his sinfully dirty mouth. Not even the way he shows up day after day for the kids or the way he looks at me like he wants to devour me.
He looks at time spent in my world as a penance, while I look at it as a way to leverage his star power to help my academy survive.
But as the days turn to weeks, it seems we’re not as different as I once thought. The man who cares about no one, has fixed his sights on me. With his time at my academy up and his obligations back home calling, do we have a lucky shot of working out?

I have to admit, I am a total sucker for a broody, British male lead character who’s really off putting at first until his gooey soft center is peeled back by an amazing, bit snarky female. And that is just what I got in Kristy Bromberg’s Lucky Shot.
Admittedly it took a bit for Whitney to peel back those layers in Alexander Hardy—just Hardy to his friends—but, man, was it worth the wait.
I adored Whitney’s sass and inner-strength as much as I adored how she fought so fiercely for her “kids” who attend her soccer academy.
Hardy, at times, needed a swift kick in the pants, but once he finally redeemed himself, whoa did he redeem himself.
I would be remiss in not mentioning the absolute fireworks that explode with Whitney and Hardy’s chemistry. They’ve both been burned by love in the past, but seeing them fight to overcome their histories is amazing. I loved them together.
And something else I loved was a fun cameo with some favorites from Kristy’s Play Hard series. Excuse me while I go hunker down for a re-read. ~ Missy, 5 stars
he's a rude asshole for majority of the book and while he did redeem himself, it was too late and she deserved a lot better than him esp with how hard life has been for her
It's been many moons since I've tried something by this author but here we are......
Alexander Hardy is a football player from the UK who's signed a one year contract to play in Miami to try to bring some attention to the sport Americans know as soccer (a la Messi/Beckham) Unfortunately American media isn't what he's used too, a series of unfortunate events leads to him having a bad reputation that starts to affect the reputation of the team...... Hardy's punishment? Volunteering at a football camp in one of the most impoverished and crime riddled neighborhoods. What starts off as a week turns into a month long committment, the last thing he expected was to find love along the way.
******* There are aspects of this book that frustrated me endlessly. I do not understand why mcs never seen therapy. Hardy was the poor little rich boy who needed his mother's love after the death of his father.....she instead chose the money and prestige and his new stepfather over her son. He's struggled with that for years, as such he's closed himself off to love. For me personally I believe in cutting ppl off to preserve my mental health so I always struggle when the big conflict stems from family issues. He started off as a gigantic condescending asshole but by the end I liked him well enough. In the latter half he pulled out all the stops to prove he loved her. The h grew up really poor in a really bad neighborhood, her mom was addicted to drugs so she spent years in and out of different foster homes. Her saving grace was the coach of the football club who let her play and was a mentor and father figure to her. Her dreams of college died when she injured her knee and lost her scholarship, now she's the owner of that same football club that's desperately struggling to keep afloat. Because of her childhood she fought her feelings for Hardy till a couple pages before the end.....from beginning to the almost bitter end she fought her feelings and I was just so over her it's unbelievable. Like girllllllllllllll this man is trying his best to love you just stfu and let him!!!!!! Frustrating! Ugh And this book is longggggggg , more frustration 😂 There were some cute moments some sexy moments but honestly it's not until later down that I really felt the chemistry and connection between them.....well on Hardy's part I did. Hardy was a manwhore and the h had sex but no committment 🙄 All in all an ok read but not one I can see myself rereading
******* No cheating H was a manwhore h had hookups Only ow was an incident where the media made it seem he was out with a woman after the h but that wasn't true He went out and thought about being with someone else but he wasn't interested
I received an ARC from the author today. This author never disappoints. This was another wonderful love story and the fact it had British footballer made it even better.
I am always down for a K. Bromberg sports romance! I loved her F1 romances, and even though soccer is the one sport I'm not really a fan of, she made this story so enjoyable.
One thing I appreciated about this book was the character growth an development for both of them. They both struggle with very similar issues even though they come from vastly different experiences and worlds. Their differences are also some of their similarities and it's what brings them together.
I love how much the MMC genuinely cares about the children they work with once he actually gets there.
There are so many deep feelings of loneliness, abandonment, grief, poverty and heartbreak, but also so much joy and positivity that comes from their connection too.
I'm a huge Samantha Brentmoor fan and think she did a fantastic job narrating this one. I don't know that i've listened to many by Gary Furlong, but enjoyed his performance as well.
The way I’m obsessed with Alexander Hardy!! Lucky Shot by K. Bromberg was an addictive and emotional soccer romance that I devoured from start to finish. Seriously, once I started reading this one, I could not stop! Whitney and Hardy’s romance is definitely a new favorite from K. Bromberg. No one writes a better “layered asshole” than Bromberg, and I loved discovering all that delicious, swoony irresistible goodness that was inside Hardy all along. His love and devotion to Whitney were downright dreamy, and this man's words had me in a trance. Whitney’s dedication to her soccer academy and the kids there was also admirable. I loved her bravery and strength to find new dreams, chase them, and become completely vulnerable and in love with Hardy. (Make me melt.) The chemistry between Whitney and Hardy was explosive right from the start, and gah, I just loved experiencing these two fall for each other!
Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a soccer romance with a hot confident British soccer star, a passionate ex-athlete turned coach, Miami, soccer camps, lost bets, Cinderella moments, tension-filled banter, pitch spice, he takes care of her, grand gestures, healing from the past, penthouse steamy times, close proximity, he falls first, intimate conversations, making new dreams, and a HEA that will score the winning goal in your heart, then you will love Whitney and Hardy’s story. I always look forward to more from K. Bromberg.
It’s been more than half a year since my last read by K. Bromgerg and I was sure excited to check out her newest release when it came out, but I haven’t had the pleasure of reading it until last weekend. I am talking about Lucky Shot, a sports romance (all about soccer this time, the woman knows all sports! lol) and it tells the story of Whitney Barnes and Alexander Hardy, two polar opposites that clash together when they are “forced” to spend a month working in Whitney’s soccer academy.
This has enemies to lovers vibes all around and let me tell you Kristy made me hate Hardy so much at the start. He is such an ass! Until of course, he falls for the right woman. Whitney has all the elements of a typical Bromberg heroine; she fights with all her might, but she is 100% afraid to fall in love with the British jerk that keeps surprising her. I mean, their chemistry was unstoppable and burning hot when they finally acted on it. I have to say I really enjoyed the second half of the book and seeing how these two are unable to fight their connection. As always, Kristy delivered what I expected, and I enjoyed getting to know more about these new characters!
Alexander Hardy is a British soccer star that needs an image makeover. Whitney Barnes has had a rough life and after a soccer career ending injury, she runs a soccer club for kids/teens. Money is tight, so when she’s approached to have Hardy volunteer for PR, she takes the offer.
Hardy gets a rough start with the kids and Whitney. What was supposed to be a week, turns into a month. Whitney and Hardy have chemistry and Hardy has to work hard to knock down Whit’s walls. He has to go back to England soon, so what happens when love gets involved??
I loved how Hardy and Whit had some similar abandonment issues that they had to work through. Hardy definitely fell first! This is a reformed playboy at its finest!
It was obvious to me that I would want to read this book. So, I tried my luck and applied for this one. Thankfully, Kristy and Valentine Pr accepted me to receive this e-copy, for which I'm super grateful🤗.
Whitney Barnes has many problems over her head. She owns a football academy, which was left to her by the man who, practically, rescued her. She fought a lot to keep this academy alive, but all the expenses had overwhelmed her. Thankfully, a ray of hope appears when Whitney receives a phone call, which will definitely change her whole life.
Alexander Hardy is a football star, but who had some little image problems which needed to be corrected. That's why he will end up at Whitney's academy, being part of the agreement she got after that phone call.
It was so easy for me to fall in love with Whitney and Alexander! They both had such emotional pasts, which were still affecting them. Why? Because they were really doubtful when it came to love. Whitney was abandoned by her own mother, giving into her addiction instead of carrying more about her own daughter. Whitney was super lucky because she had Patrick's support, the man who initially owned that football academy. Hardy had his own struggles, having his scars from his father passing away and the whole ignorance he received from his own mother, who chose wealth instead love.
I looved this slow burn sports romance! The chemistry between them was super obvious but neither of them was in the right place, emotionally, to give love a chance. Hardy was the one with more courage to make the first step and, from there on, he became the perfect man for Whitney, transforming into a real golden retriever. Recommend this one with all my heart!
Never in a million years, I thought I would love this one as much as I did.
I will always love all K. Bromberg books especially when it’s a sports romance book.
It’s no secret at this point that I love, love soccer and this book was so special to be, besides the soccer side.
This is an enemies-to-lovers and a really good one! I am so in love with them - it’s impossible to put into words how perfect they were as a couple - the chemistry and the build up were amazing. THE BANTER!!
Our female main character, Whitney, was just one of those characters that you want to hug and save from the world and when you see the mmc giving her the life she deserves and someone that will love her deeply it’s so AMAZING to see!!
Alexander Hardy, the soccer player and reformed playboy it’s so well developed too! Everything he gives is perfect and I was on my knees for him the whole freaking time. I love how much he fights for their love and to show Whitney how good they can be together.
The kids, the sport and all the scenarios were amazing and I truly want to see more of this world!
If you never read anything by this author, you definitely should! The writing is flawless and all the stories are so, so addictive and immersive!
This book was so good, the chemistry between Whitney and Hardy is off the charts. Hardy, a British soccer star with a bad boy image, needs a PR makeover, which lands him at Whitney’s soccer club for underprivileged kids. He’s cocky and infuriating, but their sharp banter and sizzling tension make for an irresistible romance. As they let their guards down, past wounds surface, and they’re forced to face hard choices about their future. Samantha Brentmoor and Gary Furlong bring Whitney and Hardy to life with an incredible performance, their chemistry and emotional range are spot on as the relationship evolves. Definitely add this one to your TBR!
Thank you, K. Bromberg and Dreamscape Select for the ALC.
Whiplash x1000. Whitney is annoying. Hardy was annoying & then all of a sudden out of nowhere he becomes the amazing book boyfriend we all want? I’d say it was poorly transitioned.
Super sweet moments by Hardy. But the book in general, was just a mess. Whitney kept going back & forth, Hardy makes out with Whitney, she gets scared about liking him, so she leaves. Then he decides that he’s gonna go find another female to try to erase that kiss? He tells her this the next day & she’s fine with it?! 🙄
Overall, I liked the storyline & felt like it had potential but it just wasn’t for me.
Excuse me while I sit here and swoon over all things Alexander Hardy. Yes, I’m officially obsessed! Hardy was so much more than he was portrayed in the public eye. When his image took another hit, he was forced to help at a struggling soccer academy. Enter Whitney Barnes. I have a little lady crush on her. She was incredibly strong and so determined to turn her beloved soccer academy around. She would let nothing and no one get in her way. Hardy met his match when he met Whitney and I was here for it. The chemistry was insane from the get go. Whitney was fiery and challenged Hardy when things were usually just handed to him. They both had incredibly challenging pasts and once Hardy and Whitney got over the first road block they both put up, they really SAW each other. It wasn't always smooth sailing as they had to work through their own issues but when they did, their story was epic. It was in the little and BIG things Hardy did for Whit that made my insides mush.
Kristy Bromberg definitely scored with Lucky Shot!
K. Bromberg is one of my favorites, I was so excited to receive this audiobook! And I loved every minute of it. Whitney and Hardy are like oil and water at the start, and the way they went at each other was highly entertaining. The build up between them was intense, and made for some great banter and chemistry. My jaw definitely dropped a few times while listening! They were both amazing MCs separately and together. They both had traumatic experiences as children, and it was interesting getting to know their past through flashbacks, my heart hurt for them, but they were able to bond over it, which made for some really sweet moments.
🎧Samantha Brentmoor and Gary Furlong were fantastic, I loved the way they portrayed Whitney and Hardy. Their accents when speaking for the opposite character were flawless. They really kept me in the story, it was the perfect listening experience! @ms_brentmoor @garyfurlongvo

Thank you Valentine PR and K. Bromberg for the ALC!
This was such a delight! K Bromberg is a master at sports romance and I love that’s she writes so many different ones! And now we get Soccer!
I loved this one. Whitney and Hardy were so good together, and watching the relationship between these two grow and change was so dang good. This one hit all the right spots and when I say this man was down bad… he absolutely was.
✨ soccer star x coach ✨ forced proximity ✨ bad boy/ good girl ✨ British hero ✨ Enemies to Lovers
Did the book have to end?!? Bromberg you created two characters that I felt so much for. Flawed, complicated, broken. Hardy… ignorant little hero. THAT I FEEL HEAD OVER HEELS FOR. Whitney… Oh gf. You deserve love. I picked up this book and couldn’t put it down. I craved their love. Epic love story. I teared up. I swooned. I laughed. This is a must read for those who love the sports romances. But it brings sooooo much more.

💕 Soccer Romance (professional/retired) ⚽️ enemies to lovers 💕 He falls First ⚽️ He Falls Hard 💕 childhood trauma
If you’re looking for a sports romance, specifically a soccer romance. Look no further. This one is jam packed with banter, flirting and steam. Even thought this book brought me so many giggly smiles it also brought my heart pain as well. Hearing both characters pasts hurt my heart. I think the story was really well balanced and Hardy was just so swoony ✨ Whitney was a much guarded character all the way until the end. I thought her reasons were valid I just wanted to shake her sometimes. But overall I really liked the book :) it was a fun soccer read, I’m hoping this turns into a soccer series.
On the surface, Whitney and Hardy are opposites. He's a famous soccer player with money and a reputation for acting out. She's a former foster child who is trying to pay it forward with a soccer academy to give kids a reprieve and the hope that the world can be a better place. Underneath, both struggle with fear of abandonment - her mother chose drugs over her and his mother chose money and social standing over him.
They meet up when Hardy is committed to a volunteer gig to make up for his bad behavior. What begins as a resented obligation changes as he and Whitney bond over their shared passion for the sport and their commitment to the kids struggling to escape a precarious environment. It's moving to watch this couple learn to trust each other and be brave enough to dream of a different future that includes love and family.
this was SO good. I havent read anything by K in a very long time but this was incredible. two people with matching wounds who helped heal each other. i loved whitney and hardy so much. i highly recommend to anyone who wants a good buzzy sports romance.
Alexander Hardy is a soccer star for Mayhem & has a reputation problem so when his pr says he needs to fix it by volunteering he can’t say no. That’s where Whitney Barnes comes into the picture. She runs an underprivileged soccer program for kids. Oh, Hardy also happens to be Whitney’s Celeb crush but your idea of someone and the real version of them is always so different. When their first meeting doesn’t go as planned can he fix that impression too? This took a minute to get into but once there I enjoyed their enemies to lovers vibe similar to the driven series. This also has flashbacks so you get of their troubled backstories. The moments Hardy has with some of the kids is so sweet. A feel good, slow burn romance with great banter between the two main characters and some emotional moments too. Told in first person and dual POV.
The read that makes you feel like dreams can come true. Hardy would do anything for his Lucky Shot and She’s every dream he ever imagined the hate to love, the banter was top tier and the spice did not leave any crumbs.
Oh how I loved this book. I am truly a sucker for an a hole soccer player who is secretly soft for only the girl he loves , and K Bromberg absolutely delivered!
Our FMC is Whitney…sassy, feisty…but definitely super guarded and with good reason. Her past was messy and heartbreaking. Abandoned by her mother who chose addiction over her own child…the loss of her dad…she was just a child and was all alone navigating the system. Until her guardian angel in the form of a Soccer Academy owner comes in and becomes that support and father figure she so desperately needed. When he leaves the academy to her, she’s hopeful but scared at the same time. Times are tough and her academy and kiddos are in danger of losing it all. Until one phone call changes everything.
Hardy is our MMC. British…broody…professional soccer player who is in major need of an image makeover after his bad behaviour starts to affect the team. He’s sent to work at Whitney’s academy to show a different side of him while also providing some much needed PR to the business.
These two 😩😂 chaos. So. Much. Chaos. She hates him. He LOVES her. Literally his little grinch heart saw her and said, yup. Come here…you’re mine…but Whitney was having NONE OF IT. 😂 you know that meme with the guy screaming , “WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?!?!” Yeah…that’s Hardy chasing after Whitney the entire book and I loved it. This man was down bad. It was supposed to be one week for Hardy…but this man stayed for over a month…to win her heart, to help her and the kids, and to just SHOW HER that she was safe with him.
Whitney is probably the most guarded FMC I’ve ever read. And I get it. It was frustrating at times because I wanted to shake her and scream LOOK AT THIS MAN GIVING YOU THE WORLD!!! 😩😩 She did let her walls down…VERY slowly. She saw his love and care for her. And the chemistry between them was explosive. But I will warn you…this is a very slow burn. I loved it. The tension. The heat between them has you turning the pages begging for more. But Whitney really fought against things until the very end. She doesn’t really give in until literally the last few pages of the book 😩😂 but that just made me love her more. 🩵

“you are the dream I never had that has come true.”
I enjoyed Whitney and Hardy so much! They are two guarded people with so much untapped potential to love in a romantic way if they’d just push through their own fears. You’ll cheer for them the entire time. The character growth and banter had me eating this one up! —

British soccer player Alexander Hardy needs to change his image. Whitney Barnes has had a difficult past, and after a soccer career-ending accident, she now operates a soccer club for kids and teens. She accepts the offer to have Hardy volunteer for PR because she is short on funds. I really enjoy Whitney and Hardy's witty banter. Like the Driven series, I liked how they had an enemies-to-lovers vibe. Flashbacks are also included so you can learn about their difficult pasts. Although Whitney does her hardest to deny it, their chemistry is intense and undeniable. But as she spends more time with Hardy, she finds that he is more than just his arrogant, world-famous character. Both have a history of trauma, which causes friction and leads them to make a difficult decision when it comes time for him to return home. You should read this if you're searching for a sports romance that is full of witty banter, intense chemistry, and heartwarming moments. This is a soccer romance, which I love, and I would love to read more!
Thank you, K. Bromberg and Valentine PR for the e-ARC.
First of all thank you to K Bromberg, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me early access to this audiobook! All opinions in this review are my own.
3.5 stars rounded up :)
It was a cute book.
Its about Whitney a football coach who teaches at a run down football school for the less fortunate. Alexander Hardy is forced to help Whitney to clean up his image. He is a huge asshole but Whitney cant help but to fall for him.
It was cute but goddamn Hardy was absolutely unbearable in the first 50% of the book. I made a note that i for sure would have killed him at around 25% in. But at some point he kinda grew on me a bit and i didnt wish him dead anymore💀
Doesnt mean i actually like him tho. Im kinda eh towards him.
