A very clever modernisation of Persuasion. I really appreciate that the authors consider what Austen was attempting to communicate about characters and plot when updating it, rather than simply duplicating in a modern setting. For example, Anne dumping Wentworth might be too romantic for it to be realistic but he is about as romantic as he is in the original text. I think this might be a bit much for someone unfamiliar with Persuasion but I thought it was perfectly done. Oh and the audiobook is good.
Let me start with saying I’ve never read any Jane Austen novels. What I will say is the development of the characters lives and staying true to their values was well executed. After being everything for everyone I was so happy when Anne realized she needed to control her own destiny and do what makes her happy. Freddy was such a sweet but loved that he was stern and stuck to his morals. I truly loved this one. The entire series is just so fun! 🤩
A pure delight - Bellezza and Harding produce yet ANOTHER wonderful modern remake of Jane Austen in Anne of Avenue A. The romantic tension builds from the start and this duo are my favorite of the bunch so far. The apartment side characters make you laugh out loud. If you loved Emma of 83rd and Elizabeth of East Hampton, you’ll love Anne of Avenue A
Audiobook. This is my second one I’ve read of her retellings. Entertaining enough but it’s the type of book I grab while waiting for another book I really want to read is on hold.
