Every night the city burns. Every morning it is reborn. Only she remembers.
Danan walks through ash and memory. Marked by magic and hunted by fire that lives, breathes, and hungers, she alone recalls the curse that consumes the city of Ignis each night—and the wyvern-shaped flame that whispers her name.
But Danan isn’t the only one chasing ghosts.
Far from the cursed capital, a fractured band of outcasts is sent to capture a mythical beast whose heart could tip the balance of power. Among Finlay, a war-weary lord haunted by celestial power; Lukas, a reckless soldier marked by runes he doesn’t remember getting; and Rankin, a quiet warrior with secrets carved into his soul.
As their paths converge in a kingdom where magic is as deadly as steel, Danan must face the the fire isn’t just calling her—it’s becoming her.

Captivating story. But, what was that ending? please tell me there's another?? I need more of Rankin, Lukas and Koda's story!!
I loved the FMC, the secrets that came out during the story like breadcrumbs leading me to a delicious gingerbread house. Wyverns, witches, gods and immortals, what's not to love?
The writing was really good, with some amazing imagery!
My favourite quote from this book has to be "Love can be seen most in passion, yearning for someone more than you yearn to breathe. It's that pit in your stomach at their touch. The way you feel as if you are floating on air at the mere sight of them. Sometimes it is passion. The thrill of the kiss or the intimacy of sex.”...“Love is the silence. The quiet kindness of the peace that a soul feels around another. It's not always about the quick trisks of affections, which are nice, but it's about the freedom of stillness of your soul. It is rare to find someone who can see your soul and all its broken pieces and simply choose to help you mend them back together.” It just made me really happy ❤️
It very much seemed like a cozy fantasy throughout, until the last third of the book, when things kicked off and the story came together. With lots of moments that could be described as romantasy, the story tracks a group of misfit guards as they hunt down a mythical creature in exchange for their freedom, they come across a city that burns every night and meet Danan, a villager who remembers the burning every night. Lots of twists and turns and nuggets of information that unravel the story in a natural way.
I really enjoyed this book and hope that there is a second in the pipeline!!
I loved this! A city burns every night and no one remembers the next day…except for one. Every night she is doctors to watch her city burn. Every day she wanders the streets hoping someone will see her. A band of misfits spend their time hunting an “ice” wyvern. But it may be hunting them as well. They are each haunted by something and have their hesitations regarding their mission but if they fail it’s their lives. Highly recommend! This is my first read for this author and won’t be my last.
One thing confused me…Someone is killed early on in the story. I have no recollection of that person being mentioned before that event. Did I miss something?.

This was such an easy and fun read for me! I finished it almost in one sitting and flew through the pages once i sat down and started!!
I really loved the concept and the characters. They were so interesting and well written. The writing style isn’t usually something I go for, but the way this was done just really worked for me!
The story follows Danan, an invisible girl stuck in a cursed city that burns down every night. She remembers everything, while everyone else forgets it ever happened. There's also a group of misfit soldiers led by Finlay, who has his own secrets and problems.
If you're into fantasy with magic, curses and wyverns you should so give this one a try!
The Everburning City is a dark and captivating fantasy that burns bright from start to finish. Kris Branham’s world feels alive with danger, magic, and mystery, pulling you in with rich detail and stunning atmosphere. The characters are layered and bold, each moment unfolding like sparks in the dark.
It’s beautifully written, immersive, and leaves you thinking about its world long after you’ve finished. If you love fantasy that feels powerful, emotional, and a little dangerous—this one’s a must-read
This is a dark fantasy romance full of prophecy, forgotten gods, and a city that burns every night. You’re drawn right away into the mystery that the story unravels chapter by chapter. Amazing world building that is detailed and imaginable. Fascinating characters that are well developed and diverse. This review is based on an early review copy I was sent by the publisher, but this didn't affect the content of my review that I am voluntarily providing.
This fantastically written dark fantasy novel immediately drew me into its interesting and captivating story. I was able to immerse myself in this world very quickly and it never let me go. It's a unique story with well-written and interesting characters that I grew to love.
