Many people imagine Heaven as a tedious, disembodied existence of endless worship. Jaród Murphey's Heaven and New A Biblically-Accurate Survey of the City of God and Life in the Kingdom argues this is one of Satan's most cunning deceptions, designed to rob Christians of joy and deter unbelievers from seeking God. Instead, drawing extensively from God's Word, this book reveals that our primary purpose in Heaven will be to rule and reign with Christ as kings and queens in His global government, forever and ever. You'll discover how we'll serve God using our unique gifts and passions, engage in meaningful work, experience deep community and adventure, and find immense enjoyment and pleasure in God's presence.
Challenging traditional eschatological timelines, Murphey makes a biblically-grounded case that New Jerusalem—the Holy City and our eternal home—will descend to Earth at the beginning of the Millennial Reign, not the end. This revelation profoundly impacts our understanding of biblical prophecy, connecting the detailed descriptions of the new heavens and earth in Revelation 21-22 to numerous Old Testament prophecies of the Millennial Kingdom.
Heaven and New Jerusalem is a vital resource for anyone seeking to replace common misconceptions with biblical truth. It will inspire you to set your mind on the things above and live your life with an eternal perspective. This book, beautifully illustrated with artwork depicting what Heaven will be like, reintroduces you to a glorious, vibrant, and incredibly real future based on what the Bible actually teaches about Heaven.
A Faith Builder Most people have a wrong view of Heaven thinking of disembodied, angelic, ghost-like figures, draped in white, plucking harps on clouds, stuck in an endless church service. However, in Heaven and New Jerusalem: A Biblically-Accurate Survey of the City of God and Life in the Kingdom, Jaród Murphey presents a book that is well-researched and scripturally based, with clear explanations throughout and easy-to-understand language. He answers specific questions and clears up misconceptions, while providing an enlightening look at Heaven with amazing imagery.
Chapter III which is titled “The Descent of New Jerusalem at the Beginning of the Millennium” is where Murphey makes his argument for the timing of the descent of the New Jerusalem. The author makes a tight argument based on Scripture. He presents some good points. One of his strongest points is that the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15 that death’s ultimate eradication will not occur until Christ has subdued all His enemies, which will not happen until the Millennium’s conclusion, after Satan’s brief release and final rebellion.
Regardless if you agree with Murphey on the timing of the descent of the New Jerusalem or not, the book is still an excellent study of Heaven. The standout chapter in the book is Chapter V which is titled “The Lives of the Saints in Heaven.” It will make you look forward to receiving a new body like Christ’s glorified resurrection body and living in the New Jerusalem. The book is beautifully illustrated and presents a great visual of heaven.
Overall, I strongly recommend. You will find comfort reading this book about what the Bible says about our eternal home. This book is a faith builder.
This was a very enlightening and uplifting book. It's tells of the restoration of the earth, the rapture, the descent of New Jerusalem at the beginning of the Millennium, the lives of the Saints in Heaven and New Jerusalem, last the geography and society of heaven and New Jerusalem. This book blesses your heart, mind and soul. And the book gives a clear vision of our future as Christians while living with Our Savior Jesus Christ. A a great book!!
An Essay on the Promised Land of the Old Testament
I borrowed this book thanks to my Kindle Unlimited subscription that I share with my girlfriend, and I read it between my tablet and phone using the Kindle app.
This short book of merely 130 pages is an essay by the author about the Promised Land (or the land after death) as described in the Old Testament. The author uses his profound knowledge of the text to present his own interpretation and opinion of what New Jerusalem is.
As a trigger warning: if you are Catholic and a practicing believer, note that all the “evidence” used comes strictly from the Old Testament. Therefore, this book could serve more as a starting point for debate, about not only the vision of the afterlife but also the role (if any) of God in managing it.
The book is filled with images that accompany the text, but they don’t add much and mostly serve to fill pages.
In summary, the book is readable and full of biblical references aimed at explaining the author’s personal vision (3 stars for me).
Author Jaród Murphey does an excellent job at including Bible references, and has done much research, for the many interesting topics that he discusses in this book about Heaven and New Jerusalem. Topics that I found to be especially interesting in this book include: the timeline that the author says that New Jerusalem (The Holy City) will descend to Earth, what he says The Bible teaches about Heaven, and how the devil portrays Heaven in an incorrect manner to disillusion both unbelievers and Christians concerning Heaven. The book encourages people to view life now on earth as living in enemy-occupied territory, and to took look expectantly, for one day we will truly be experiencing the unparalleled glory and wonder of Heaven. There is so much to unpack in this book. The many illustrations and drawings really help the reader to get better focused on the corresponding subject matter that the author is describing in the book text. I await to hear when the city will be called "The LORD is there." There is so much to look forward to.

Every now and again, I come across a book that is Sui generis—In a class all by itself.
This book furthered the growth of my faith. Jarod Murphey’s commentary with extensive supporting scriptures laid out for me a more elaborate revelation of the Glory of God and his omnipotent presence in both Heaven and Earth. The Bible references triggered internal conversations about how I can explore more of God's vision and plans for my life. This book challenged me to see New Heaven and Jerusalem elevated beyond worldly narratives of singing angels, fluffy clouds, gates of gold and glorious light. Jarod provides an enlightened perspective for Christians to consider careful examination of God's blueprint for living a spirit-led lifestyle.
The following takeaways has given me a stronger established hope in my Christian journey:
1. We cannot allow our emotions to overshadow the clear pronouncements of Scripture.
2. God's creative power is not limited, as so intelligently threaded throughout this book.
3. The intimate communion between Creator and creation. If we truly love God, we will honor and follow his commandments.
4. Learning to rest in the assurance of God’s promises; rejoicing in the security of God’s grace and anticipating the eternal riches that await us in Heaven and New Jerusalem.
I recommend this book to those who are heavily invested in exploring the scriptures on the topic of Heaven; its spiritual and physical realms and the wonders of our eternal lives. This is a book that warrants multiple reads; a book that can be used as a bible study guide and theological research.
I honestly didn’t expect to be so moved by a book about Heaven, but this book flipped my perspective completely.
Growing up, I always pictured Heaven as some kind of endless spiritual service in the clouds, far removed from real life. Jaród Murphey challenged that idea from the very first page and replaced it with something far more vivid, grounded, and biblical. This wasn’t just theology. It was a deep dive into Scripture, and yet it read in a way that was clear and compelling.
What stood out to me most was how the author connected the coming Kingdom to real things like community, culture, restoration, and even joy. He painted a picture of New Jerusalem that actually made me long for eternity not fear it. I found myself underlining entire sections just to sit and reflect on what life with Christ will really be like.
The book also cleared up a lot of confusion I had around the timeline of events like the Millennium, resurrection of the saints, and what happens after the final judgment. It was full of Scripture but never dry or overwhelming.
This is not a book filled with clichés or speculation. It’s rich, thoughtful, and deeply anchored in God’s Word. If you’ve ever struggled with feeling disconnected from the idea of Heaven, or wondered what it actually means to reign with Christ, I 100% recommend reading this. It’s a game-changer
A fun and encouraging peek into our glorious future
In his book Heaven and New Jerusalem, Jaród Murphey offers an emotionally evocative picture of utopian bliss in the afterlife based on thorough research and a literal interpretation of the Holy Scriptures.
By gathering and faithfully analysing the many Biblical references to the Sabbath Millennium – the forthcoming thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ on earth – Jaród offers a vivid portrayal of a world without limits and invites us to journey with him into the blissful realms of the Kingdom of God. There we will experience wondrous peace, love and the deepest intimacy of relationship for all eternity with God, our earthly spouses, family members and friends, as well as the brotherhood of man of a kind that poets and idealists through the ages could barely dream of; and all this goodness takes place in an Eden-like setting of salubrious abundance.
This is a fun read that will reward those who are open to unfettered speculation, with profound understanding, heartening encouragement and joy. It will reinforce, elevate and excite the Christian’s knowing anticipation in this late hour, that our best days are ahead of us.
“You can disagree about [Revelation] and still be a Christian” Jen Wilkin, Revelation
While I don’t agree fully with all of this author’s interpretations of scripture and timeline of end events, Jarod Murphey does an expert review of scripture in Heaven and New Jerusalem, taking verses from all throughout the Bible. It’s clear that Jarod has done a lot of study and research—he fills the book with biblical references and engages thoughtfully with opposing views, using scripture to support his claims and interpretations.
The tone of the book reads like a theological thesis. That said, I appreciated the depth of study, and the beautiful AI-generated images sprinkled throughout the book definitely add visual appeal and help stir the imagination.
One quote I appreciated was: “If He [Jesus] is in the clouds, we are in the clouds with Him. If He reigns upon the earth, we reign upon the earth with Him… only the glorious unity of Christ and His saints, forever and ever.”
This captures a beautiful truth — our unity with Christ is the most important part of eternity. Overall, this book is probably best suited for readers who enjoy studying end-times prophecy. It’s a thoughtful, if sometimes speculative, look at what the author believes the millennium and heaven might be like. For me, the biggest reminder is that whatever heaven looks like, its greatest joy will always be being in the presence of God.
Jaród Murphey’s Heaven and New Jerusalem is a vibrant reimagining of eternity that replaces clouds and harps with purpose, joy, and adventure. Drawing from Scripture and rich imagery, Murphey paints Heaven as a place of meaningful work, deep community, and breathtaking beauty. The writing is passionate and detailed, filled with biblical insight and hope. This book reads like a guided tour of the world to come, encouraging readers to live with anticipation and purpose. If your view of Heaven feels dull, this book might just light a fire in your soul and reshape your expectations of eternity.
Heaven and New Jerusalem is an inspiring book that offers a fresh perspective on the nature of heaven. Murphey courageously challenges longstanding beliefs about the afterlife, revealing insights often taken out of context. He empowers readers to recognize that everyone has a purpose and encourages us to use our unique gifts in service to God.
Author Jaród Murphey's Heaven and New Jerusalem: A Biblically-Accurate Survey of the City of God and Life in the Kingdom is a well-thought-through, researched, and explained treasure on the end times, with particular reference to the New Jerusalem. As a pastor, I have been asked, especially by those mourning the loss of a family member or friend, "What is heaven like?" I have answered as best I can from the knowledge I have of the Bible. Jaród's book opened a world of scriptures to me that will not only help me give a better explanation of a believer's future but also bring comfort and strength to those in grief.
I was encouraged by Jaród's use of the Bible to substantiate his view. Both New and Old Testament passages were considered. I took longer than normal to read his book because I kept going back to the passages he referenced to see how they were all puzzle pieces in God's magnificent redemptive plan. No matter what your theological understanding of the end times is, you will find this book an exceptional resource to refer to time and again. Jaród presents his view with conviction and humility, causing you to think through what you believe and why you believe that way.
Overall, I came away with a deeply compelling picture of the New Jerusalem, the Millennium, and what that will look like. It filled me with hope: "For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known" (1 Corinthians 13). I will have to read it again, and perhaps a third time, to get a better grasp of it—not because it is unclear or ambiguous but because it is packed with meaning, value, and challenge. Thank you, Jaród.

The author studied accountancy, but has stated that he also spent years studying Bible prophecy. In this book he presents ‘the vibrant truths of the future that God has prepared for us’. His thoughts are presented as analyses of Bible verses. Like the translations of the writings of Nostradamus, these ‘prophecies’ are open to interpretation, but I have an open mind and am always willing to listen to other people’s philosophies and beliefs. There is nothing new here, just quotes from the Old Testament and talk of warfare and battle, Armageddon and annihilation. The author believes our primary purpose in Heaven will be to rule and reign with Christ over the nations, with the promise of peace, happiness and adventure. I agree that we are wayfarers passing through this world, but God didn’t actually write the Bible and these verses should not be taken so literally. There are random photographs scattered throughout the text which have been taken from various sources, or perhaps AI-generated, and add nothing to the content. This book hasn’t proven anything, but I respect the author’s right to state his truth as he sees it.

For anyone who has ever wondered about what lies beyond this present Earth, Jarod Murphey's "Heaven and New Jerusalem" offers a profoundly insightful and comforting exploration of our eternal future. This book is a must-read for Christians seeking to understand the biblical prophecies, particularly of the Old Testament, concerning heaven and the age to come.
Murphey masterfully navigates the often complex and overwhelming topics of the "New Earth" and New Jerusalem, making them engaging and thought provoking. He grounds his insights firmly in numerous biblical sources, lending an undeniable authenticity to his study of eschatology. What could easily become a perplexing theological jargon is instead explained in an easy-to-read, clearly communicated vision of God's incredible plans for us.
One of my favorite parts of this book is the profound hope it instills. Murphey addresses common anxieties about eternity, offering solace to singles by affirming that relationships in heaven will transcend earthly limitations, and providing specific reassurance to those in difficult marriages that earthly sorrows will not follow them into eternity. He beautifully conveys that God's all-encompassing love will so brightly emanate that all human worries will pale in comparison.
I wholeheartedly recommend "Heaven and New Jerusalem" to Christians of all denominations and curiosity seekers who possess an inquisitiveness about biblical promises of what lays ahead. This book not only satisfied my own personal eschatological curiosity but it also inspires readers to live their lives today in joyful preparation for an exciting eternity.
A lot of people think of Heaven as a place of endless clouds and choirs, but Jaród Murphey's Heaven and New Jerusalem paint a much richer, more interesting picture. Murphy uses the Bible to show that Heaven is a place of purpose, creativity, joy, and real life, where we will rule with Christ and use our God-given gifts forever. He challenges traditional views of the end of the world, suggesting that New Jerusalem may come down at the start of the Millennium, changing how we think about eternity. This new vision, based on the Bible, is not just a different perspective but a significant and impactful revelation that replaces old myths with powerful truths.
I received an advance reader copy of this book and gave it to a friend from my Bible study group who loves prophecy. She told me it was an incredibly insightful and uplifting read that completely changed her perspective. She said that instead of a vague or boring eternity, the author uses scripture to paint a real, vibrant picture of Heaven as a place of purpose, community, and joy. I'm so glad I gave her this ARC; she said the argument for New Jerusalem arriving at the start of the Millennial Reign was fascinating and gave her so much hope.
This book completely changed how I picture Heaven. Instead of the usual vague ideas, it paints a rich, exciting future based on Scripture—full of purpose, community, and real joy. I loved how it showed we’ll be using our gifts, doing meaningful work, and actually ruling with Christ. Super encouraging and thought-provoking. If you’ve ever wondered what Heaven will really be like, this is a must-read.
This book really opened my eyes to a deeper and more exciting view of Heaven than I’d ever thought about. It’s thoughtful and based on Scripture, not just tradition. I do wish it had a few more visuals or diagrams to help explain some of the ideas more clearly, but overall it helped me see eternity with fresh hope and purpos
This book offers a clear, scripture-based perspective on Heaven and New Jerusalem that challenges common misconceptions. Jaród Murphey presents thoughtful biblical insights about our eternal purpose, the Millennial Kingdom, and what life with Christ will truly be like. It is well-researched, uplifting, and encourages readers to view eternity with excitement and hope.
This book completely reshaped how I think about Heaven. Instead of vague ideas or distant theology, Murphey brings Scripture to life with clarity and depth. I loved how he connected Old and New Testament prophecy, showing that Heaven will be a place of purpose, joy, and adventure in God’s presence.
Challenging a lot of old outdated ideas that aren't based on the Bible. If you haserious interest in heaven and the afterlife, this book is for you. It really delves into the all the different ideologies about the afterlife.

When reading Jaród Murphey’s “Heaven and New Jerusalem: A Biblically-Accurate Survey of the City of God and Life in the Kingdom,” the author’s passion for what is written and their sincere hope that it enlightens their readers is clearly evident. However, what is also clear is that this work is focused on a very narrow audience, maybe a subset of the author’s denomination; it may not be for Christians as a whole.
The writing, for the most part, is straightforward and in plain English. When the occasional theological statement pops up, the author will often explain it in common terms. Even so, it may be difficult for some readers if they do not have at least a beginner’s knowledge of Biblical prophecy interpretations.
The argument presented is very much an us-versus-them discussion. The author mentions several other schools of thought with regard to Biblical prophecy interpretation and dismisses their ideas with phrases such as "a somber and frankly, unbiblical concept," "unbiblical theological positions," and "false belief systems."
My guess is that the first half of the book is aligned with the author’s denomination, and the second half is what the author is adding to the discussion. The positions presented in the first half are supported by Biblical references that can be understood to agree with the author’s ideas. In the second half, it is more difficult to see reasonable Biblical support for the claims made. There are references to all sorts of futuristic possibilities, including human life on other planets and “immortal humans with superpowers.”
This book presents a lot of great information, but as with the nature of most Biblical prophecy interpretations, it is for a narrow audience.
Heaven and the New Jerusalem by Jarod Murphey is a wonderful biblical study. Murphey uses scripture to build his sound argument that Heaven is real and will not be boring. Murphey uses the whole council of God to make his points that I found fascinating. The new Jerusalem timing was something I had not personally dove into in my studies. I found the scriptures to be poignant and true as I meditated on the Word. This is a great survey and should be studied through as the men of Berea studied what Paul taught them.
