The best way to start over at 68 is to rent a charming beach house in Maine.
At least that's what Monique Lamond tells herself when she leaves everything behind for a summer by the ocean. She's determined to figure out who she is without her late husband, David. She expected peaceful mornings baking for the local café. She expected long walks on the beach with nothing but her thoughts for company. She expected her three grown daughters to give her some space to breathe.
She was not expecting her grumpy landlord to show up at her door after she accidentally ruins his fishing line. She wasn't expecting mysterious notes to start appearing, warning her that someone's watching. And she certainly wasn't expecting her heart to flutter when Ben Cooper's rare smile breaks through his perpetual scowl.
But the brooding sculptor has more than calloused hands and a talent for fixing boats. Ben's carrying the weight of his wife's death and accusations about his business partner's suspicious accident. He's kept everyone at arm's length for years, choosing solitude over risking his heart again.
When Monique's daughter Zoe arrives in tears, running from a dangerous ex, and her late husband's financial secrets threaten to destroy everything she's worked for, Monique realizes some storms can't be weathered alone.
Can Monique navigate starting over when her daughters think she's too old for romance? Can Ben finally let someone past the walls he's built? Or will the towns secrets and family drama prove that second chances are just too risky?

Monique is renting a house and her three daughters visit her there. I really like Monique and feel bad how some family members treat her because of her age. I was pulled in right from the start and couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to see what is up next for Monique!

What a great story! The setting is so inviting and the storyline pulled me in from the very beginning. So much for a quiet summer vacation, Monique's much needed time for reflection and to breathe has been up-ended. She has visitors and they've brought with them a whole lot of drama. Fantastic writing and these characters are all so interesting. This is definitely a page turner that does not disappoint.

Family's have a way of upsetting each other or lifting you up. Keeping secrets that are to painful to tell is also devastating when the truth finally comes to light. This is a great family drama that weaves a story about each character flaws, strengths and loyalty. I was completely hooked. Hope you enjoy it too.
I gave this one 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It has some interesting twists in it. In thought this was going to be a love story but it’s more than that. Quick easy read. Book is pretty short.
This is a VERY GOOD READ. The same characters, some trying to find out the mystery of where Monque's retirement. To say too much would be spoiling this and the next book.
