This heartwarming story follows Cody the Coyote, who feels like he doesn’t belong and is often teased by others. Cody is a sweet young pup who finds the noise of the world overwhelming, causing him to retreat to the forest. It is in this peaceful setting that he discovers valuable lessons, much like the lessons young children will learn as well.
The beautiful illustrations are richly detailed, revealing little bits of wisdom throughout the story, such as the importance of strength, inner peace, courage, and the value of belonging.

Beautiful illustrations, moving story. I think this is a story that has a lot of life lessons that will happen in young lives and learning to connect or ask for help adapting in a situation that they struggle with. Really well written.

Just given the privilege of reading "Cody's Whisper". There is so much to love about this book. From the theme of who you are is exactly right, to the nature, legend and spiritual themes running thru this story. It hits on lots of levels. I especially love a peaceful book when reading to littles. It helps them slow down and think about the world. Something very precious in our lives.A great book for gentle souls 🩷
I found a lot of comfort in this book. The pictures were beautiful and the words were reassuring. My daughter and I love being out in nature together and I’m always amazed at what she notices. I love how the sweet coyote gained wisdom from all for his forest friends. The suggestions at the end of the book were also helpful.
“Why do I feel like a tiny whisper in a world full of noise?” Little Cody the Coyote really doesn’t feel like all the other animals. They are loud and boisterous, and he is quiet and calm. One day, he decides to go out in the forest, and find his answers in the beauty of nature.
From the moon, he learns that he is special and unique. From the sun, he learned that power can come from shining your inner light. From the creek, he learned how when obstacles get in his way, he can keep moving & carve his own path. He continues through the forest, and learns more valuable lessons from the tree, the fox, owl, wolf, butterfly and deer. After his time in the forest, Cody feels strong enough to face the world.
Beautiful illustrations, with vivid detail.
I especially loved the reminder from wolf to “find your pack”- friends and family who are there for you, so you don’t have to face the world alone.
There is a short message in the back for “Teaching Children to Connect with Nature and Restore Inner Peace” and some amazing hands-on, easy to use calming techniques!
Our family loves nature, and we definitely seek the forest when life gets hectic or stressful. We are all instantly calmed by the trees, the sound of rushing water, and the open spaces to walk & explore.
I could see teachers, homeschoolers, preschool leaders, and families using this book as a resource. A tool to begin conversations around mindfulness and using nature for calming.
Now, more than ever, we must teach our children to smell the earth, to taste the rain, to feel the wind, to watch things grow, to listen as the sun rises and night falls - and most of all to care. ~Avellino Farms
As both an educator and someone who helps to develop both pre-service and in-service educators, I am encouraged by resources that honor the whole child — mind, heart, and spirit. Cody’s Whisper does just that. In the tender story of Cody, a tender coyote pup who discovers the quiet strength of his own voice, young readers are invited into an affirming space of belonging, courage, and inner peace.
This book arrives at an especially critical moment. At a time when social-emotional supports are being wrongly eliminated from many schools, Cody’s Whisper stands as a gentle but powerful reminder that children’s inner lives matter. Learning to recognize, trust, and value one’s voice is not a luxury. It is foundational to healthy growth and authentic community.
The language and illustrations make this a story that resonates not only with children but with the adults who guide them. It’s a book that nurtures resilience, affirms gentleness as strength, and helps children see that their worth is not measured by volume or dominance but by the unique beauty of who they are.
I recommend Cody’s Whisper to teachers, families, and anyone committed to raising children who know they are seen, heard, and deeply loved.

He listens, notices, and discovers that quiet moments can hold big meaning. The story feels warm and inviting, with gentle surprises that keep pages turning. It celebrates kindness, empathy, and the magic of paying attention, all wrapped up in an easy, friendly read that kids instantly connect with. Perfect for storytime or classroom sharing, Cody’s Whisper proves that you don’t have to be the loudest voice in the room to make an impact. Sometimes the softest voices leave the biggest echoes. Now, for a fun new thing I am trying to do with my reviews, the emoji review! 💬 for whispers, quiet voices, and gentle communication 💛 for kindness, empathy, and warm feelings throughout the story 👂 for listening, noticing, and really hearing others 🌱 for growth and emotional understanding 😌 for the calm, comforting tone of the book 🤝 for connection, care, and supportive relationships

My five year old and I enjoyed this one together. Each page was beautifully drawn and the story flowed well. I loved seeing Cody the coyote find himself by looking to others who were different than himself. It taught him diversity which was nice to see in the story. My son really loved the butterfly and wanted to learn more about how a caterpillar changed into a butterfly when we were finished with the story. Overall, I recommend this one highly to teachers as I feel like it includes plenty of great teaching moments!

Cody’s Whisper by Malia Grace 5 Star Review Cody’s Whisper takes us on an adventure into the life of a little coyote named Cody. He is shy, quiet and really doesn’t like loud noises. This adventure helps us see how he deals with these sounds and fears by finding a bravery that he didn’t know he had. Malia Grace has written a lovable story that is easy to read and understand. It is brilliantly illustrated and is brightly colored to help draw little ones into the story. This story is supportive of sensitive children and educational in helping other children understand them. I will be sharing this book with my younger students who have some classmates that are sensitive. What a great learning tool!
A beautiful story to encourage children to speak up as well as listen. Tantrums are not the way to be heard. That is the message my grandchildren and I learned while reading this story. Cody does not like loud noises, he also feels he is not heard or listened to. What will you receive after reading this story? Will this book give advice for children as well as adults? I think Yes! I love this author's books. The pictures are beautiful and engaging. She included techniques to help teach our shy or quiet children, in the back of the book. I feel this book needs to be read to all children. It also needs to be on shelves of our libraries and on our personal home bookshelves. Yes, it's well written and easy for our children to follow.
Cody’s Whisper felt like a deep, calming breath the moment I opened it. Cody’s quiet nature and gentle curiosity immediately resonated with me, especially in a world that so often rewards being loud and outspoken. Watching him learn from the forest—listening to the animals, the wind, and his own inner voice—was both comforting and affirming. The story beautifully reassures children (and adults) that being sensitive or introverted is not a weakness, but a source of wisdom and strength. I loved how naturally the book invites conversations about emotions, mindfulness, and finding courage in stillness without ever feeling preachy
I absolutely loved everything about this book. From the messages throughout to the illustrations. I haven't been moved by a picture book in a long time and Cody's Whisper spoke to something in me that I didn't realize needed listening to. I absolutely love how Grace was able to put into words and illustrations how loud the world can be sometimes and how hard it can be to regulate that. When Cody goes out into nature to try and figure himself out, he meets a wide variety of friends who help him discover who he is and has always been. This is a really touching story that everyone should read, no matter your age. Definitely add this to your bookshelf now.

The colorful illustrations will keep your child asking questions throughout. They will want to read this book over and over again. This is such a fun story. I highly recommend this book.
This is a sweet story for young readers. The book has a good message that is easily understood and will resonate with many readers. The young coyote deals with many of the same issues that children do and he learns how to understand and accept himself as he goes through his adventure in the forest and talking to nature. Each time Cody asks a question he is answered with understanding and a way to lift him up. The illustrations are cute and it was nice to see a page included in the book that gives ideas on how to help you take a moment and connect with nature. I like the idea of instilling the connection to nature.
