This series is SO good! I always stretch out books I love (like saving the best part of a meal for last), and I managed to parcel out this packed omnibus over… well, over a period of two weeks. Impressive!

I had no idea it would be the end of the series(?!) until that final chapter… and such a string of solid, continuous, heart-pounding chapters it was! I’m really impressed by Nightow’s storytelling, composition, and of course his likable characters.

Trigun was an early series for me, and one where I saw the anime before reading the manga. Like Cowboy Bebop, it made the anime mean more to me than the manga did. After enjoying Blood Battle Blockade so thoroughly, it makes me want to go re-read the Trigun manga to see if it would hit differently now, so many years later. I think it may not be as enjoyable as BBB, simply due to Vash’s nature and his struggles. BBB was violent, enjoyable, silly, heartfelt… human / alien natures and desires conveyed through panels full of movement and life. I’ll miss these characters!
