How to Catch a Husband (In Twelve Regrettable Steps)

Rate this book
When sensible Miss Georgiana Plum discovers a satirical pamphlet titled "How to Catch a Husband in Twelve Regrettable Steps," she decides to follow its ridiculous advice as a private jest during the London Season. However, her increasingly absurd attempts at husband-hunting consistently attract the wrong man—Lord Redmayne, a notorious rake with a secret literary hobby.

As Georgiana works through the pamphlet's outrageous steps, Lord Redmayne finds himself inexplicably drawn to this peculiar woman whose bizarre behavior masks a sharp wit and passionate nature that matches his own. What neither realizes is that Lord Redmayne himself wrote the satirical pamphlet as a joke, never expecting anyone would actually follow its advice. And certainly never expecting to fall for the woman determined to execute every ridiculous step.

-Everett was really awesome and I love when an MMC is down bad from the beginning
-the premise was really funny

-no full on smut so no full scene of them solidifying the marriage.
-gets a bit repetitive at the end
-would have love to see more relationship building

TLDR: Funny, lighthearted historical romance. Truly made me giggle a few times

Writing: 3rd person and great use of historical words/jargon to keep me in the time and place.

Characters: A short story with limited characters but those that are in the story are well rounded. I was able to get a sense for their thoughts, feelings, and motivations of our two main characters.

Yearning: Not a lot of yearning in this story. It developed over the course of the story but since it is a shorter book, the yearning is not dragged out.

Tension/Drama: low stakes story with humor over drama

Vibes: A unique story with a funny plot. Had me giggle a few times.

*Steam factor: this is an open-door book with explicit scene. A solid two peppers.

Sweet Regency Romance

Georgiana is thinking this will be her last season before spinsterhood. The only prospect, someone three times her age. Until she finds a satirical pamphlet outlining ridiculous steps for finding a husband. For some fun, Georgiana decides “why not”. Only her plans are interrupted each time by the notorious Lord Redmayne. He recognized those moves….he wrote them.

Whitty.

Strong female lead (bluestocking) . Decides to end her last season with a splash before entering spinsterhood. Things don't turn out that way. whitty, not typical regency romance, rather scandalous.

Rated R not steamy so much, but she gets a pleasure education that is everything but the final act. 2 scenes. Semi easy to skip if not your thing. Also, banter disguised discussing said pleasures.

Also, mother tries to set her up with a match more than double h er age (3X?) Mention as that's a trigger for some people.

I haven't read a regency romance in a long time and thought I'd dip my toes in with this one. It was a short, fun read; however, I hated the AI Narrator. There was no difference in any of the voices, as a real voice actor would, so it was confusing at times to know which character was speaking. I liked the story itself, but I wonder if this is also an AI Author? I couldn't find any pictures of her or any other information. All of her books are narrated by what Audible calls a Virtual Voice. At least it was a free option with the Plus Catalog.
