Two decades ago, Sarah’s sister Vivian was murdered. Vivian’s consciousness has manifested itself in Sarah Roberts through Automatic Writing, but is now merging into Sarah’s mind at a new level, causing Sarah to relive Vivian’s brutal death almost daily. Sarah moves into a cabin in northern California to be alone, to work things out. She visits a local psychologist to deal with what’s happening to her, and researches the name Cole Lincoln, her old babysitter. Lincoln was a police officer who lived next door to her. He abused her and threatened her life if she ever spoke of it. But he seems to have disappeared. Members of the police force where he used to work won’t even acknowledge his name. But Lincoln is alive and well. Since Sarah’s name hit the national media with a cop killing in Canada and the priest killer case in Los Angeles, Cole has followed her exploits, watched her, and has waited for the day she would come after him. That day has come. While Sarah tries to deal with the haunting flashes of memory and images, Lincoln calls in a favor and gets her committed to a psychiatric hospital. To shed the darkness that torments her, Sarah needs to set things right by making Lincoln pay for what he did. But Lincoln has other plans, and Sarah doesn't see him coming until it’s too late. Sarah has fought for her life before. In The Haunted, she also fights for her sanity.

I had never heard of Jonas Saul, when I first started Book 1 in the life of Sarah Roberts, Vivian, Parkman, and Aaron. I've just finished Book 12 and can honestly say that Sarah's story is as much of a page turner as it was in the beginning. Jones Saul, writes and we feel the emotions of all the characters, good or evil. I'm eagerly awaiting Book 13. Happy holidays and reading to all.
The saga continues. One of the things that I did enjoy with this book over some of the past in the series was that the author didn't get on an obvious soapbox that distracts from the story. Well, other than the hatred for bad cops, but that's such a continuing part of Sarah's position that it's expected.
These are not the Great American Novel. I'm honestly not quite sure why I devour this series so quickly - the plots are stretched, the main character has unbelievable abilities to get out of situations and recover from physical injuries, the writing is good but not overwhelming. Yet devour the series I do, similar to binging on a action tv series when it's finally released as a package.
I can't get enough of these books, Sarah just keeps pulling me further into her story. I have found a great writer in Jonas Saul and look forward to every book he writes. Like this writer, I am a Steven King fan as well. Again thank you Jonas for the entertainment, hours of entertainment. To every reader, you will enjoy Sarah's stories. Dig in!
I am a huge Sarah Roberts fan... and once again I follow her on her adventures.. Never disappointed...always on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see what adventure lies ahead.
Loved this episode in Sara's exciting life. Could not put it down. Sorry that Aaron bailed on her but hope that will be addressed in unlucky. great read absolutely mind bending.
Really like the Sarah Roberts books. They keep me entertained from the first page to the last. Hate to quit reading if I have to do something but like when I get to start reading again
Having read allopathic series, I look forward to the next in the series. Captivating, thrilling, inspirational are some of the descriptors. Thank you for Sarah Roberts.
I like that Vivian can communicate with Sarah more directly, but surely Sarah could communicate the same way without speaking aloud. I'm glad Sarah has another person other than Parkman since Aaron has bowed out (I hope only briefly).
Omg...... What a story. Jonas Saul has such an art for story telling that it sends chills down my spine. If you haven't ever read his books I recommend them but be ready to be pulled in deep.
It's been many years since Sarah had a babysitter and her last one was a cop who abused Sarah in the worst way. It's been a long road since then and now she's ready to but this behind her after she locates him and he is behind bars or dead she doesn't care which. She has decided to see a Psychiatrist to help her resolve her relationship with Vivian. She schedules the appt. And is abducted and wakes up is a mental hospital with the worst possible situation. The Psychiatrist has admitted her under lock and key and her "nurse" is none other than her old babysitter. She is in a grave situation as they plan her demise. She has no way to make contact with anyone that can help her. Two nurses come in to give her a final sleeping shot, set the fire and leave. She is handcuffed to the bed so she can't help her self, locked in with no way out in a room on fire, but it doesn't stop there.
Another all-night reading. As always perfect story telling, this book had my heart pounding through the while book and my adrenaline was pumping, that's one of the many reasons I love this series and author. I agree with Sarah and Aaron splitting for now so he can get perspective. I love her and Parkman's relationship he gives her 100% support even when his heart and mind scream for him to step in, what a great relationship they are truly like brother and sister. This author is bad to the bone!! Mr. Saul is good at giving you a great story without a bunch of unnecessary words, and everything he writes has good knowledge you can tell he researches whatever city the story is in or whatever the story is about whether it's religion, cops, or mental patients and I respect that, that is what separates the great authors from the ones without the passion. Hats off to Jonas Saul you have got me hooked!
It's been a while since I read book 11 and after binge reading the series up to that book, I took a detour from one of my favorite genres. After dabbling in other genres I am glad I chose a Sarah Roberts book to bring me back. Each book in the series gets better and Sarah, still as humorously snarky as ever, has mellowed. Her relationship with Vivian, Parkman and Aaron continue to evolve and change. These characters all have personalities that make you cheer for them and cry for them. Onto book 13 (it can't be all that unlucky if there is a book 14 & 15 &....).
Well I'm ready for The Unlucky. Hopefully Sarah survives #13. The Haunted certainly was pushing her survivor skills. However I'm very happy that Detective Hirst will live to tell the tale. If you never read any of Sarah Roberts Thrillers start with the first one and keep on reading.
I read all twelve in the series. Didn't review all of them because after a while they all looked the same. Easy read, predictable plot, some violence and the good guys won.
Not great literature but something to read to pass the time. Got a bit religious at the end - not thrilling. Did a bit of the Clive Cussler thing with the author showing up as part of the storyline.
My 1st Jonas Saul read, definitely not my last. Bad, no evil people are all around us and they are out to get you and destroy what is near and dear to you. Sometimes they are waiting for you… This is a page turner and definite must read
I can't stop reading Sarah Roberts stories. There are always white knuckled trips with horrifying bad guys fought off by one little lady and a spirit. I look forward to my next chance to escape into a Jonas Saul story.
This is a unique book a rare glimpse as the way things can work out, especially with so many evildoers in the world. It's nice to know we have heroes out there looking out for us. Enjoy this series and keep reading.
