Nothing Is Impossible with God: Eleven Heroes. One God. Endless Lessons in Overcoming.

Rate this book
If your life doesn't look the way you expected, that doesn't mean God can't use you.

If we know God has already won the battle, why do we still struggle? The Christian life often doesn’t feel like the stained-glass images we remember from childhood—happy, holy, hopeful. But God never promised that we won’t have trouble. Rather, He promises to be with us through the storm.

Shannon Bream, the number-one New York Times bestselling author of The Women of the Bible Speak series, returns with a fresh collection of biblical stories that will hearten readers who feel stuck in a spiritual rut. People in the Bible—the very people in those stained-glass windows—struggled the exact way we do. Every time Moses thought he had his life figured out, God threw him another curveball. Daniel had to maintain his integrity in the most hostile environment imaginable. Joseph had family trauma like you wouldn’t believe.

Shannon chronicles unlikely biblical heroes, from Jonah, who ran away from his mission and ended up at the bottom of the sea; to Elijah, the bold prophet who went from miracles to extreme loneliness; to Peter, the impulsive and changeable fisherman who became a “rock” of the faith. Their journeys were full of trials, but they found abounding peace in Jesus.

Nothing Is Impossible with God is an encouraging reminder of how the Lord is willing and able to bless us more than we can possibly imagine. It will comfort, inspire, and equip you for life’s challenges by showing that nothing is impossible with Him.

From one of our favorite TV personalities comes the commentary of eleven heroes from the Bible focused on the theme of overcoming. Since Shannon, by her own admission, is the classic overachiever this is right up her alley. Each biblical hero has its own chapter as she quotes the various Bible verses and gives her commentary on the events and the possible lessons we can learn. Interspersed with personal illustrations she gives the reader, especially one young in the faith, a chance to learn valuable principles from these iconic Bible stories.

This was a very inspiring book. I loved the way it is written and the Bible versus that she used. I love all the books in the Bible she used and asked us questions about your life.

2.5⭐️ rounded up - This is basically the Bible's greatest hits. I recommend just reading the Bible instead tbh. It had a lot of good stories...because they are from the Bible, but the author did do a good job with making each story easy to understand and would probably be good for young readers.

I read an article about this book and it sounded interesting, although at the time I didn’t realize the author Shannon Bream worked as an anchor on Fox News Sunday. She selected eleven well-known figures in the Bible and profiles them, showing how each of them struggled in their own way in their Christian paths. I have always been amazed at how many of the “heroes “ in the Bible were not ones who would be the obvious choices to perform heroic missions. I liked how the author demonstrated how these ordinary men struggled with their doubts and fears just like we all do in our daily lives.

I have been reading this book off and on for awhile - a chapter here and there, often at night. I have taken many Bible studies so these heroes were all familiar to me, although I did learn some additional information about each one of them. This book would be very beneficial to people who are not knowledgeable in the Bible and with the major Biblical characters as it is easy to read and very informative. I did feel the writing was too casual and contemporary in some parts, as if the author was trying to make it more appealing to her (young) audience. However, I do feel this book served the author’s purpose of reminding people that mankind has always struggled, and the right way to live your life is usually not easy.

Nothing is impossible with God is a phrase I have to keep reminding myself of. There are times when I don't understand God's plan, when I find it hard to love others, and when I feel that God is far away. Those happen to be the three sections Shannon Bream divides her book into.

She uses Gideon, Moses, and Peter as examples of people who might not always know God's plan. I particularly like Peter as his too-quick tongue gets him into trouble.

Joseph, Jonah, Daniel, and Nehemiah are examples of people who found it difficult to love folks all the time. Jonah actually tried to run away! And Daniel, faithful in a secular world, seems to speak to these times.

Sometimes I get sad, worried, or fearful, and it feels as though God is so far away. Well, guess what. So did Noah, Joshua, Elijah, and even Jesus. Yet they all came to realize that God is at hand.

So I enjoyed reading this book. It might tell familiar stories, but it puts a new light on them. And it offers hope to those who have felt the same.

Highly recommended for people of faith, especially those who need reminding that they are not alone.

I had ignored this book so many times, always intrigued by the title and then realizing the author was a Fox News personality and it was printed by Fox Books would be a turn off. I shouldn’t have let a new channel name turn me off without ever seeing what was inside. That isn’t ok, and I hope that I can learn from this and grow moving forward. I hope that YOU, reading this now, can do the same, with this book or others- it can be applied with literally anything. You never know what you can learn and sometimes, the most surprising lesson is that your bias isn’t always grounded in total fact or is based on a minority and not the majority.
You see, I am always the one telling others that they should put aside their personal feelings and beliefs and try to listen to those people or views they don’t agree with. I have even read books entirely supporting the very things I despise just to see how it works and why I despise it. Sadly, I just didn’t take my own advice or stick to my own practices when it came to this book and so I spent months in conflict this book honestly could have helped with.

I really loved this book. I learned a new perspective about 11 people, who I felt spoke to the heart of how I feel and how I am not alone at all in some of the ways I feel. I will make sure to pass this book on to others who need reminded of what Jesus sacrificed for us to be able to come to God. Fore He is coming back for us one day, and everyone needs to be on watch to see Him coming again. ❤️
