Mandy’s not having a great December. She was given a rescue “dog” (who looks much more like a wolf) by her lackluster girlfriend as a Christmas present. Mandy lives in a studio apartment and can’t keep her new pet, but that turns out to be the least of her problems when she’s woken up in the middle of the night by a gorgeous naked woman…who just happens to be stealing a pair of jeans from her dresser.Paige isn’t a thief…she wants Mandy to believe she’s a werewolf, who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and through a series of unfortunate events, ended up at an animal shelter. That’s an unbelievable idea for Mandy…until Paige transforms in front of her.But the worst part? Paige’s sister is still at the pound, still masquerading as a wolf-dog, because to transform to her human form would be to out werewolves to the world, something that can never be done.A madcap rescue and a holiday romance to warm your heart await you in A WOLF FOR THE HOLIDAYS. This novella is approximately 22,000 words.
My name is Bridget Essex, and I write about werewolves, vampires and lady knights; about two strong, courageous women who fall deeply in love with one another, living love stories that transcend time. I'm married to the love of my life, author Natalie Vivien.
I'm best known for my Knight Legends series, stories about women knights, real world hi-jinks and love stories that are out of this world. My Sullivan Vampire novellas are a popular series lauded as "TWILIGHT for women who love women," and I have several other series and stand-alone novellas, and I'm always putting out something new. 3 STARS First time reading this author. This short story was just OK. Interesting premise, it just left me wanting more to the story. Probably not a holiday re-read for me.
From the opening of this story, it reads very young. To allow someone to behave in such a way not keeping date and dinner promises for all this time, seems very juvenile. Then when we finally meet this other half, she is a jerk and a half. It was such a superficial opening to an issue in a relationship that was a duration of 6 months. Then she meets her love interest in an albeit cute way, but the escalation of that situation happens in only a matter of a few hours is even more surreal. No real depth of emotions here and very light on dialogue is so pedestrian.
I bought a lot of books by this author. I am worried that if her books reads like this novela, I will be extremely disappointed.
What do you do when you find a naked woman in your room taking your clothes? Mandy is mad at her girlfriend for missing another dinner. But shows up four hours later with a big dog or is it a wolf. So begins the tale of sudden disbelief or maybe a blessing? Enjoy!
I really liked this book. It’s cute and romantic and has a werewolf in it, what more could you ask for! I love Bridget Essex wolf stories and this is a great one.
Couldn’t find the ebook so listened to the audio. It was a good novella, but I wanted more. This could have been a longer story/novel with more buildup and sexy scenes. I think it would be great than.
This short novella had potential but didn't do it for me. It was too sappy and not in a romantic way, at least for me. There were some fun moments and it started well but I lost interest pretty quickly. I like much of Essex's work, so I'll keep reading her books.
My wife and I listened to this on a long drive and we adored it. It would make a fantastic Hallmark Holiday movie, and watching the two characters start to develop feelings for each other was so sweet and cute.
A Christmas eve adventure with a cute romance. I'm a sucker for romantic comedies and Essex made this one short, simple, and sweet. Although Paige seems too similar to Virago from A Knight to Remember (maybe Essex has a type?), the story and characters are enjoyable.
This book could have used some proper editing. There are a bunch of typos and at least one misspelled word that distract from the story. That said, I'd rather read a book I really like with lots of mistakes than something well-edited but unable to make me care for its events or characters (I'm looking at you, Priestess of the White).
If you like werewolves, lesbians, romance, Christmas, or any combination of the above, you should read this book. You'll breeze through it and it'll make you feel warm inside. Low commitment, high reward!
A woman is once again stood-up by her girlfriend. For the sixth time in six months, this girlfriend either forgets, arrives hours late, or sends a text message hours afterwards to indicate that they won't make dinner. This time, it's Christmas Eve, and Mandy's made a special meal. She loves cooking. She loves showing her love through food. But her girlfriend fails to arrive in time. Then finally arrives hours late. With a massive wolf. As a present. She doesn't apologize for missing dinner. No, she demands to know where it is. Mandy finally gets up the courage to break up with her girlfriend.
Girlfriend leaves. Mandy looks down at the massive wolf with the intelligent eyes. Looks around her tiny studio apartment. Knows she can't keep the wolf. Goes to sleep. Wakes up to see a naked woman rummaging through her dresser looking for clothing. Also, the wolf is missing.
Neat little story of unexpected occurrences, and unexpected love.
Disclaimer - I'm adding just about every book I read in 2016 to Goodreads in December. I probably read this way back in January.
I read a ton of lesbian romance novels this year. I have no idea why. All of them were of decidedly average quality, and most of them mesh together in my memory. I read at least 1/4 by this one author, though, and most of hers center on supernatural stuff.
Supernatural romance is big right now.
This is super short - more of a novella. I did enjoy it, but it's brief. That being said I feel like I can't judge it too harshly for having a scant plot with next to no explanations. It's cute, but sadly a bit low on the steaminess - I don't even remember if there are any sex scenes.
A cute short story about a woman (Mandy) who receives a wolf as a Christmas gift from her inconsiderate girlfriend. It turns out, however, that the wolf is actually a werewolf named Paige, who needs to rescue her sister, who was also trapped in the pound. The romance is short but sweet, and it's a nice way to spend an hour or so, especially during the holiday season, I imagine (I read this in May).
If ye want a quick read, go ahead and take a ride on this one. This is a fluff piece, fast romance with some minor conflicts.
In a way, Angie kinda compensated for all her previous mistakes by unintentionally brought Mandy and Paige together. Hence, admittedly she is one horrible girlfriend, I couldn't hate her (especially her action in the end).
If you want to read something short and sweet. With just enough lust but that it's not overbearing, then a wolf for the holidays is your cup of tea . And I highly recommend all of Bridget Essex's books .
It was enjoyable. A few typos and repeated words here and there, but I would keep in my library for a small holiday read. I will admit that it was much Shorter than expected.
Just have to ask, where did the werewolf get a hairpin to try and pick the lock? Did she go into the bathroom and do up her hair (with someone else's supplies) before she went to steal the clothes? Was it there through the shift? If so, why couldn't clothes go through the shift?
This may seem small (literally), but it's a perfect example of the issues I had with this story. It's inconsistent. Facts change on the fly to fit the authors narrative, and it's jarring when it happens.
