An original e-novella, based on the hit CW television show, Reign .
It has been months since the death of King Henry II and the French court has grown accustomed to the rule of the newly-crowned King Francis. But while the people are excited by the prospects of a new reign, Francis struggles with his new place on the throne. Plagued by frequent nightmares of his father, he grapples with his guilt and grief. But as his visions become more threatening, Francis must Is his father's ghost trying to tell him something? Or is Francis, like Henry, slowly going mad?
As seems to be the case with this little series, you need to have seen the TV show to understand what's going on. This was a nice companion to the TV series Reign.
I loved the fairytale feel that I have gotten used to in this series.
Like the first novella, it's a good little read when you need to pass the time, nothing to really invest in.
Great little book to shed some additional insight into the minds of the characters during certain episodes. You do have to know the show and have watched the corresponding episode to get the full understanding and enjoyment from it. I’m not this far into the series so I should have waited a bit.
”(…) You wear your guilt as clearly as you wear your crown.”
Whatever darkness fate would throw his way, he and Mary would face it together.
This was way better than The Prophecy - still the same fanfic-ish vibe but the saga is almost coming to an end so I’ll bear with it for a moment (guilty pleasure activated)…
I have to admit that I've enjoyed The Hunting better than The Prophecy, I believe the characters were better portrait in this novella and all the narration really captured the essence of the TV Show!
Poor Francis. Haunted not only by the decision he made to take his father, King Henry's life to save the realm and his wife from his father's crazed notions, he's now also haunted by dreams of his father as well.
this one had some very cute dialogues and soft stories, a good “in between book” for the series. One book away from the ending, but this one has my heart. I absolutely love Mary and Francis, and their relationship. To me, they’re perfect!
They really need to specify in the description about how many episode you must watch to not be exposed to spoilers when reading this book! There're a lot of season 2 spoilers going on, up until at least episode 4. Anyway, this book was quite frustrating with Francis just being all guilt-trippy about his father and stuff. Only the ending made me give this book 3 starts. If it hadn't been for the ending I would've given it 2 at most. I would've liked if there were more fluffy Frary scenes in it so then maybe it wouldn't have to be so short.
I can't believe that it's been almost a year since Reign as a tv show ended but I'm grateful to Lily Blake for writing an adaptation that follows along with the show.
I loved reading about Francis' inner turmoil and the aftermath of his father's death. While it was explored during the show, you get a whole other feel for it in the adaptation! This is one of those musts if you'd like to get more into the show information wise as it goes hand in hand directly with the episode!
This book was really short and with the episodes it corresponded with she could have went into a lot more detail and made it longer. It was good, bu this is one of those rare occasions where the movie, or in this case TV show, is better. In my opinion at least. Also be warned that everything in the books didn't happen in the show.
It was better than "The Prophecy", the characters were more themselves. I did enjoy it but it would have been fun to see a type of story like in "Darkness Rises". Considering this short of a book doesn't add much too the story, using new characters could have made it a bit more interesting. Overall a nice quick read.
