Harmony Glen

Purring for Her Lion

Rate this book
A Cozy Monster Romance with Bread, Chickens, and One Very Jealous DragonWhen former city girl Liana Reyes trades skyscrapers for chickens in the sleepy little town of Harmony Glen, she expects peace, quiet, and maybe a little dirt under her nails. What she gets instead is a runaway flock, a mysterious dragon egg, and her gruff, enormous, and startlingly attractive a lion-man war veteran who runs the local vet clinic and has the emotional range of a rock.

Roarke doesn’t need complications. He’s got enough to manage with injured chimeras, emotional scars from a galactic war, and now—thanks to Liana—a baby dragon that insists on living in a chicken coop. He tells himself he’s only helping because of the dragon. And the chickens. And maybe the way she bakes warm, sweet ube pandesal with cheese when she’s nervous.

She’s sunshine and chaos. He’s claws and caution.

But when feelings sneak in like stray animals, neither of them is prepared for what comes next.

Perfect for fans of cozy fantasy, monster romance, small-town charm, and slow-burn warmth with a sprinkle of heat, a snarky dragon baby, and enough banter to bake a second batch of pandesal.

* * * *

Though they once lived in secret, “monsters” have inhabited the earth as long as humans. As technology advanced by leaps and bounds, the ability to remain hidden dwindled. Earth’s nonhuman creatures faced a allow themselves to be discovered, or step forward and introduce themselves. Either option could have ended badly for monsters and humans alike—and in some places, it did.

But not in Harmony Glen.

After The Great Revelation, Harmony Glen welcomed monsters with open arms. This small, lakeside town in Upstate New York is now home to humans and nonhumans! Integration has been so successful in Harmony Glen, the town even changed its motto to “Come for the harmony, stay for the happily ever after.”

Welcome to Harmony Glen. We know you’re going to love it here.

Each book in the Harmony Glen multi-author series is a standalone cozy romance with a happily ever after! The books can be enjoyed in any order.

Barely luke warm feeling, if that, and the writing felt really simple. Another one in the series that definitelyyyyy should have been a novella.

Occasionally the next chapter would be the previous chapter but with swapped POV. But sometimes more dialogue would be added or scenes played out differently, sorry but they need to be exactly the same. Whole sentences would be added to the conversation? Definitely needed some editing.

Ended up skimming the last 25%. Wouldn't recommend as it was so bland

Purring for Her Lion is one of those romances that sneaks into your heart with its quiet tenderness, laugh-out-loud chaos, and just the right touch of magic. Evangeline Priest gives us a cozy, slow-burn monster romance that blends warmth, whimsy, and emotional depth in such a satisfying way.

Liana is the kind of heroine I immediately rooted for—messy, resilient, endlessly hopeful, and yes, juggling chickens, bread dough, and a baby dragon without missing a beat. Seeing a Filipina main character at the center of a monster romance was such a joy for me. From the ube cheese pandesal to the adobo and lumpia, the cultural touches made her world feel so vibrant and real. It wasn’t just window dressing—it was part of her heart, part of the way she cares for others, and part of why Roarke can’t resist her sunshine.

And Roarke… oh, Roarke. The grumpy, scarred lion-man vet who hides behind silence and scowls, only to show his love in every quiet act of care. Fixing fences. Protecting her kitchen from a dragon hatchling. Rearranging his entire life just to make hers easier. He’s the kind of hero who doesn’t say much, but when he does, it means something. And when he doesn’t? His actions speak louder than words ever could.

What made this book stand out wasn’t just the fantasy elements (though the clingy baby dragon stole my heart), but the way Liana and Roarke grow together. She learns that leaning on someone doesn’t make her weaker. He learns that letting someone in doesn’t make him vulnerable—it makes him whole. Their romance builds slowly, naturally, until it’s not just believable, but inevitable.

This story has everything I adore in a cozy monster romance: found family, healing from scars both visible and invisible, food that makes you hungry while you read, and a love that feels steady, strong, and worth fighting for. It’s tender, it’s passionate, and it’s the kind of book that leaves you smiling long after the last page.

One grumpy lion. One chaotic baker. One very clingy baby dragon.

Liana’s fresh start in Harmony Glen kicks off with a barefoot chicken chase and a silent, growling neighbor who wordlessly fixes her fence. Roarke is intimidating, untouchable, and clearly not looking to make friends. That changes when she shows up with purple bread and a dragon egg.

When the egg hatches and magic hits her doorstep, Roarke steps in to help whether she asks for it or not. He builds fences, fireproofs kitchens, and somehow ends up rearranging his entire life around her without saying a word. She bakes, she jokes, and without realizing it, she begins to unravel the quiet man next door.

As their lives blend and something deeper builds between them, the outside world starts to test what they’ve made. Roarke will protect his own without hesitation. Liana’s done being alone. And both of them are starting to realize that what they have is something worth holding onto.

Liana grows from a fiercely independent storm into someone who learns to lean in, to accept love without losing herself. Roarke shifts from a guarded, solitary figure into a partner who shows his care in every action, even when the words are hard to say. Together, they move from wary neighbors to something unshakable, solid, slow-burning, and quietly intense.

A steamy, fated mates, grumpy sunshine, small town romance featuring a protective lion shifter, a chaotic baker, and one fiercely loyal baby dragon, exploring belonging, healing, trust, found family, personal growth, and unconditional love. It’s full of emotional caretaking, domestic tension, quiet devotion, and the kind of magic that reshapes everyday life. It’s about finding home in the person who never lets you fall alone.

"I’m going to a magical town. With a magical lion-man. For a magical dragon egg. I’m living in a fantasy novel."

Liana found a dragon egg on her yard and who's more than willing to help with it but her own neighbor and veterinarian, Roarke, the lion-man war veteran.

I had a hunch due to the FMC's name but I had to message the author and see if the FMC is a Filipina, which she is. Immediately, I was sold.

It's my first time reading a monster romance book that had a Filipina FMC and I need more of these. Lol.

"Because even though she thinks there’s an expiration date to this arrangement, I know in my soul, this is not temporary."

I love both characters. Liana's juggling a lot so her life's full of chaos. She's establishing a chicken coop, making breads, cooking Filipino foods, working a remote job and on top of that, taking care of a baby dragon. However, she's handling life with a huge smile on her face.

Roarke's the usual grump, built a lot of walls around himself and just want peace and solitude due to his traumas as a war veteran. He's managing his own vet clinic and just had to help his neighbor, Liana.

This book had the fated mate trope but I did love how the author handled their relationship. They became reluctant co-guardian of the dragon egg and they slowly got to know each other. It's slow burn in the best way. Iykyk, I do love a slow burn so that's a huge bonus on my part.

The other thing was the representation of the Filipino aspect, in terms of the bread and the food. I was so giddy reading about what's Liana's cooking and baking (adobo, lumpia, ube cheese pandesal, and many more).

This lion-man made her kalderata and arroz caldo! Swoon! Absolutely sold. I want my own Roarke.

Thank you BookSprout, and Evangeline Priest for sending me this advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a fantastic cozy small town monster romance!

I loved every minute, and the characters felt accurate to they types of neurodivergence they portrayed too. Liana was very much ADHD, or possibly AuADHD. She felt the most real to me personally, because that's the part of the spectrum I sit on. Roarke felt a bit autistic coded, and with the strong hyperfocus flavor of ADHD. It's a great combination in a book, and real life too.

It was so cozy and sweet, with so much amazing Filipino food. The descriptions were mouthwatering, and I want some ube jam so bad! The addition of a baby dragon was even more fun, and Nugget is so dang adorable!

I loved the dynamic between them with the big quiet guy that quietly gets things done, and the chaos gremlin bringing love and excitement into their lives. That's the dynamic I have with my own partner in real life. It really hit home for me, and gave me the warm fuzzies inside. It was wonderful to watch them grow together and figure out their strengths and weaknesses. There was a lot of compromising, learning to accept help, and a whole bunch of character growth.

This was a great addition to the Harmony Glen series, and I'm looking forward to reading more!

This is a fun small-town monster romance in the multi-author series Harmony Glen. Each book is a standalone and can be read in any order.

Human FMC Liana is doing her best at homesteading, but her rambunctious chickens keep finding their way out. One morning, while wrangling them, she ends up on MMC Roarke’s property. He’s a grumpy, lion-like alien/monster veterinarian. He starts helping her in exchange for her delicious cooking and sticks around when a mysterious egg appears.

This is a quick, cozy read with sunshine/grumpy vibes. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of Liana’s Filipino cooking, which added flavor and uniqueness. The characters were fun and easy to like. I did notice some continuity issues, occasionally POV chapters described the same event slightly differently, which pulled me out of the story. Several of the spicy scenes were dream sequences, which isn’t my personal preference. I don’t mind a little dream revelation or teasing, but in a short book I prefer the spice to move the plot forward.

Overall, this was a quick, enjoyable read. I’m looking forward to more from the series.

Spice: 4.5/5
Plot: 4/5
Writing: 4/5
My Enjoyment: 4/5

I so enjoyed this story. I devoured it in one afternoon. I could not put it down. At first I thought she was going to be too chaotic and flights. But I was so wrong. Yes she bounces around with her thoughts but they are controlled thoughts and mostly the all of us are most of the time. I lo ed how she wanted to touch everything! That's me ! And the stress baking - the baking sessions were such an important part of this story. His simple way of being in control was a good balance for her. At times rereading a chapter from her vice then his was a little much but it worked with the rest of the story. The chickens !! Oh I laughed so hard at times - you could see what the author was trying to get across. And Nugget! Oh sweet nugget. We never find out why he was placed with her but they made a great choice. The book was spicy at times and not an instant love. But one that grew and the mate bond was so strong once it came to be.

🐔 🐲 🦁 Roarke & Liana

ARC Review

Purring for Her Lion by Evangeline Priest is part of the ongoing, multi-author, shared world of Harmony Glen. Monsters peacefully co-exist with humans, find love & companionship. Liana & Roarke's story is sunshine/grumpy, complete opposites attract, they balance each other, fated mates (only Roarke knows in the beginning), medium-ish burn, neighbors-to-lovers, no 3rd act breakup, food is love, hilarious chicken shenanigans, adopted dragon for a son, cozy lion man/human woman romance with some ṣïzzlïng ṣexƴ times in dreams & out. 🥵🔥💋

...I love this - when Roarke first realizes Liana is it for him..." 💕

"...Instead, I’m hyperaware of every sound she makes, every shift beneath the covers. Each exhale. Each tiny movement. Pathetic. I’ve led battalions into enemy fire. I’ve survived three galactic campaigns. I’ve stitched my own wounds without anesthetic. And here I am, undone by a small human woman in an oversized t-shirt..."

4.75 stars. This story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, fated mates, male feline humanoid alien veterinarian (Roarke)/female neurodiverse human IT worker/homesteading beginner (Liana), contemporary fantasy romance. I adored the accuracy of the portrayal of Liana, as a person sharing a house with neurodiverse people. I also enjoyed the way she maintained her cultural heritage and made it a key part of her life. I enjoyed Roarke’s calm acceptance of Liana as she was, and chuckled at his careful insinuation of himself in her life as a method of convincing her he was her fated mate. I enjoyed the relationship development. I chuckled at the dragon and chicken animal companions. I enjoyed the steamy intimate moments. I applauded the active negotiations between Roarke and Liana regarding longterm choices and plans.

Charming opposites attract live story!

When Liana, a swirling chaos surrounding her life from an hyperactive mind sensitive to auditory overload, meets Roarke, an alien lion-man and former warrior now an extremely organized and precise veterinarian to magical creates, a wonderful connection of love develops. Roarke quietly builds her homestead into a safe place for her to be herself, raise her independent and contrary chickens, and care for the dragon egg that magically appears on her land and hatches into an intelligent dragon baby who bonds with Liana. Love blooms slow and steady for Liana as Roarke incorporates itself into every aspect of her life in a quite calm way allowing her to be herself chaos and all! I truely enjoyed “Purring for Her Lion”.

Gleeful Goblin Review: I'm falling in love with this shared universe of Harmony Glen and this book was an amazing addition. The book focuses on cozy feels and is more of a slow burn on the romance end. I felt like having the relationship between our two main characters have a slightly slower pace that I was able to enjoy the journey and the anticipation.

Our FMC Liana most certainly fits the "sunshine" aspect of the grumpy/sunshine trope to a T and Roarke is a perfectly lovable grumpy guy. In spite of them being so outwardly different I love the fact that they're able to find common ground. Seeing Roarke come out of his shell and all of the wonderful moments of kindness that paved the way for that moment was delightful. 5/5 Stars

Ok.. If I have to read that she’s chaos and he’s silent one more Goddanm time.. 🙄 I just couldn’t seem to connect with the characters or the story at all. They had this dragon then all of a sudden it kinda just stopped mattering and was overpowered by them fucking. I get she was “chaos” but the overall storyline was just odd and clunky, and I just wanted more plot. I didn’t like their relationship dynamic, idk why exactly, it just felt like it didn’t fit. I didn’t love the spice, it felt kinda lack lustre and used too often. I honestly almost DNF’d it just over half way but decided against it. I actually quite enjoyed this series so far and was really excited for this one but yah, just didn’t do it for me at all. Sorry!

Cute but needs MAJOR edits

Needs both grammatical and structural edits. Normally I don't rate based on needing edits but in this case it was GLARING. -2 stars for that, 3 stars still because I liked the characters and the homesteading fantasy.

There are a couple of beats that look like they are out of order (mentioning the baby dragon doing something before the dragon has actually hatched in the book, for example), and too much jumping in time without actually indicating how long it's been until a few pages into a chapter. The book doesn't flow quite right, and plot beats appear out of nowhere and are dropped just as fast. Really needed another draft or two.

This is another fun addition to this multi-author series and I loved the way this story unfolded. Liana and Roarke were rather opposites and still managed to find their way together. Think chaos meeting grumpy. Lol! There are reasons for both of them to be the way they are and I enjoyed seeing them slowly open up to each other. These two really were entertaining to follow and with the cute/cozy vibes, I couldn't help seeing their love as something worth fighting for. So good! Adding in chickens, a dragon egg and hot chemistry, well, lets just say this was a one-sit read for me. Good fun!

This was a chaotic read lol.
Roarke 🦁 is a veteran who is now a vet to animals. He has his clinic and his schedule he keeps to. He has a set life that changes with his new neighbor Liana and her escape artist chickens 🐓 .
Liana throws all Roarke’s schedule life out the window when they need to co-parent a baby dragon 🐉 🥚egg. While working around Liana’s baking and cooking Roarke finds that she is his mate. But to just come out and tell her would mean her freaking out and possibly leaving so we get a slow takeover lol. It is a nice little takeover that she accepts 100%.

There were some problems with names getting mixed up and the timelines. In chapter 4, she' calling the chicken Nugget, instead of Chestnut. In chapter 12, she's talking about Nugget starting flame bursts near the chicken coop. But the Dragon named Nugget is not born until chapter 13.

There's one chapter where we get the main females point of view, and the next chapter is the main males point of view of the same exact scene but with completely different dialogue. It's off putting and strange.

Even with these errors, I found this book sweet and enjoyable. Just needs editing.

A grumpy Vet, who just wants his structure and his cute but chaotic new neighbor brought together by a band of runaway chickens. What more could you want? Throw in a rare "nugget" of an egg... and you have the sweetest cozy monster romance I have read all year! Roarke and Liana bring together another wonderful corner of the Harmony Glen family - looking forward to more!.

Evangeline Priest has a strong writing style and was glad I got to read this. It had that element that I was looking for and was invested in what was happening. It continued the story perfectly and the characters continued to feel like they belonged in this type of book. I enjoyed the monster romance element to it and worked well together with the storyline and characters.

This has the potential to be really good. Feline MMCs are some of my favorite to read about, but there way too many errors and inconsistencies. I had to pretend the first chapter didn’t exist to keep reading the book. The first two chapters are the same scene but different POVs. The conversation doesn’t match up, and was really confusing. Characters say things in a different order or slightly different wording than the previous chapter. This happens a few times throughout the book. There were some regular typos as well, which would have been much easier to overlook.

Also, they never figure out why the dragon chose her as guardian, but the characters have the same conversation twice about figuring out why.

I checked the kindle copy as well to see if the errors made it to release, and yep. Still there.

Aside from that, there were some really sweet moments. It’s a fated mates where he falls first, and it’s super sweet.

Liana and Roarke are my favorite couple (pretty much) ever.

She is a bit of a fish out of water in this new town and Roarke is so sweet with her, They are honestly two people you want to see get together and the spice...well it certainly showed us what they were like.

Nice and Cozy Story to snack on between. Was really entertained with this read and especially with the dragon. I just had a bit of a problem with Roarkes over the top possessiveness and the way he just made decisions for Liana and without asking her.

A Lion, A Dragon and Chickens with Attitude

This was a delightful read. They meet when her chickens escape and run to his yard. Then she enlists his help when she finds a dragon egg. The story takes off from there as they get to know each other better and achieve their HEA.

This was really cute. It was nice to have a book with a Filipina main character. Pretty sure this is much more unusual than a lion-man mmc. But the characters were a good match and I like that they had interests outside of just fated mates.
