JFK Secret OPS is a Graphic Novel Crime story that explores the assassination conspiracies along with a bit of sex, violence and peppered with dark humor. Hand drawn in blue ink and digitally painted, the unique visuals stand out like a solid film noir experience. A truly entertaining Graphic Novel.
I'm not sure I was the intended audience for this one. I think our readers at the library who are really into JFK conspiracy theories and the more macho mystery books will love it. The artist has a real talent for faces, and the art style was very unique--I don't think I've ever encountered a graphic novel that looks quite like this one.
JFK survives his assassination and goes undercover to kill the people responsible for the attempt on his life. Sounds promising, right? In practice, it was pretty boring. A chore to read. The plot just sort of meanders from target to target. Also, I wasn't fond of the sketchy art style. The characters were so frequently off-model that in a lot of the panels it was hard to tell which character was supposed to be which. You couldn't tell that it was supposed to be JFK if he didn't have the metal plate on the side of his head.
I thought this comic was really fun. Every now and then there would be points where I felt like I was losing the plot, but the story had me chuckling quite a few times and was a really neat take on JFK, especially if you're familiar with a lot of lore surrounding him and his assassination. Really, really unique comic. I like it!
