Meet Suzie French teacher, newly single, newly heartbroken. After an awful break-up, she heads to Mallorca for a much-needed holiday with her cousins, expecting sun, sangria, and siestas.
She isn’t expecting to fall in love – especially not with the handsome Spaniard who rescues her when she gets separated from her group during an ill-judged midnight skinny dip.
But what starts as a steamy holiday romance built on white lies and mistaken identities turns into something more complicated when “Carlos” shows up at the school she works at.
Except his name isn’t Carlos. It’s Charlie Carter, and he’s the new Spanish teacher.
Now they’re stuck in department meetings pretending they haven’t seen each other naked, both feeling thoroughly duped, both wondering if that hot holiday fling can exist in real life? But when they’re thrown together again on a school trip to Seville, the heat between them proves impossible to resist.
If you’ve ever wondered if that holiday romance could turn into something more, you’ll love this laugh-out-loud romantic comedy sizzling with summer vibes. Perfect for fans of Emily Henry, Meghan Quinn and Beth O’Leary.
💓🎶Hey Alexa, play Hot To Go by Chappell Roan💓🎶. Hot To Go written by Kristen Bailey is a perfect summer book full of laugh out loud moments, humor, witty banter, spice, and feel good moments. I have never read a book by this author before, but I have a few of her books already on my tbr, so I'll be sure to read those after having fun with this light hearted story. I know the cover is beautiful and summery, but there is a lot of spice, so if that's not your thing, then you might want to skip this book. Hot To Go is a great book to read by the pool full of light heartedness, but it's also super emotional at times, and yes, I did shed a few tears. This was a fun enjoyable story, but the miscommunication threw me off a little bit, but nonetheless, it was still a fun summer read. Family drama is one of my many favorite tropes, I mean who doesn't love a little gossip and drama? But anyway, I loved the family dynamics and drama with spill the tea moments. I know this book won't be for everyone, but if you are looking for a fun summer read, mark your calendars for July 18th, 2025 because you won't want to miss out on this spicy story. If you are looking for a quick escape to the beach, then Hot To Go better find it's way to your tbr. Whether you are experiencing winter right now, or you just want to dip your toes into the sand or water, Hot To Go will have you packing your bags and planning your next vacation.

Suzie Callaghan lives in Brighton, England with her husband of two years, Paul. Paul Glass is a manipulative bitch, and a lying cheating douche bag. One Thursday, Suzie was on a teaching course in London over night, but one day when she orders food, Suzie learns from a Uber Eats delivery driver that a red headed woman was at her house with Paul while Suzie was gone. Keep in mind, Suzie and Paul bought this house together and another woman is staying in her house while she's away. It turns out Paul was having a three month long affair with this red headed woman that he met at the gym, every Tuesday they got together in Paul and Suzie's house. Recently broken hearted, Suzie is invited to her cousin's fortieth birthday party in Mallorca for a five day summer holiday vacation where Suzie expects sun, sangria, and siestas, but she gets something totally different. This summer holiday trip is a chance for regeneration and a chance for Suzie to find her mojo again. Before leaving for Mallorca, Suzie leaves her job in Brighton and relocates to South London to get away from Paul. Oh, Suzie is also a French teacher. I felt so bad for Suzie, I mean she was literally on a teaching course over night trip and then she learns from an Uber Eats driver that her husband is having an affair. Emma, Beth, and Lucy who are Suzie's cousin's are the best bodyguards a girl could ever ask for, they were just so funny. In Mallorca, Suzie meets Carlos who y'all need to meet immediately.
Charlie Carter is a Spanish teacher at a school in West London, where he earned the nickname Carlos from another teacher. Charlie thinks he looks absolutely nothing like a Carlos. Charlie has a penchant for spontaneous dancing, y'all this man was absolutely hilarious, he had me laughing the entire time. Krystal who is an English teacher has been dating Charlie for a few months, well one day Krystal is giving a trip presentation when her phone malfunctions and shows a video of Charlie dancing naked while he's drunk to a room full of teachers instead of giving the trip presentation. Charlie is completely humiliated and embarrassed, so of course Charlie and Krystal break up. Charlie's little brother Max is getting married, so Max, Charlie, and a group of Max's friends are having an Avengers themed guys trip in Mallorca, where Charlie is reliving his teenage years. The Playa de Sol hotel where the guys are staying is a party palace hotel with beach access, unlimited drinks, and foam parties. Charlie's dating life is in shambles after a few too many failed relationships, so while they are in Mallorca, they are there to celebrate Max before he gets married and overall just have a good time without being worried about relationships. If you ask me, I truly think Charlie is the life of the party, he's absolutely hilarious and will have you swooning. I felt bad for him when he was humiliated, but he got back up on his feet and went to Mallorca to have a good time with his brother and friends.
Suzie and Charlie first met when Suzie was skinny dipping with her cousins, but drifted away from them because she had a fear of getting arrested for public nudity before starting her new job, so she was panicking and managed to lose her cousins in the ocean. Their first time meeting, Suzie and Charlie have a multilingual flow of conversation between French and Spanish. Keep in mind, they don't know their real names yet, so they give each other fake names and fake nationalities. Suzie becomes Aurelie and Charlie becomes Carlos where he says he's a yoga teacher in Mallorca and Suzie claims she's from France. After finding each other, Aurelie and Carlos have mysterious no strings sex with a stranger and to just feel alive and recharged again. Aurelie and Carlos have a fried doughnuts beach date which turns into a sparks flying sex marathon. After their spicy time, Aurelie and Carlos agree to meet at the beach the following morning at eleven, but Carlos is a no show, well Aurelie can't do anything because they gave each other fake names, no phone numbers, no last names, and no social medias, so they have no way of getting in contact. Six weeks later, theses two are reconnected at a school where they both teach modern languages. They make sexy jokes in the classroom, but the sparks aren't there when they try and pick up where they left off this time with a recent confusing sex debacle. The banter is hilarious between them, but the romance is lacking, so they both try to salvage a working relationship as colleagues. You will need to read this book to find out why Carlos was a no show. Do they work better as colleagues or should they try and find their spark again? Well, the answers are waiting for you. The banter was so funny, I was just laughing nonstop.
Thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC.
Hot to Go by Kristen Bailey is a hilarious read that had me laughing from beginning to end. The humor is spot-on, with witty dialogue and quirky moments that make it feel like you're sharing inside jokes with a good friend. The playful banter between the characters is fantastic, and the lighthearted tone kept me hooked throughout.
What I really loved about this book was the unique central trope—it’s something different from the usual rom-com setups, which made the story feel fresh and exciting. Bailey did a great job putting a fun twist on a familiar theme, and the character dynamics were really enjoyable to watch unfold.
That said, while I was entertained for most of the book, it did feel a bit stretched out at times. There were parts that seemed to drag a little, and I think the story could’ve been a solid 50 pages shorter without losing any of its charm.
Overall, Hot to Go is a perfect pick if you're in the mood for a funny, feel-good rom-com with a unique plot. Definitely worth the read, just be prepared for a slightly longer ride than you might expect!
This romantic comedy brought the heat and the laughs! This novel was such a cute, comfy read. It made me feel lighthearted, happy and emotional. It is a wonderful summertime book, that made me feel like I was on a vacation at the beach. This book centers around the female main character named Suzie, who’s a French teacher that has her heart broken. Suzie takes a much needed holiday at Mallorca with her cousins. The last thing on her mind is a romance, especially after her horrible break up. They always say that love is always found in unexpected places! During a night of skinny dipping, she ends up getting separated from the group she was in. A good looking man ends up rescuing her!
As this holiday ends and she returns to her job, she sees the man that rescued her at her school! He so happens to be a new Spanish teacher at the school she works at! White lies were told when they were on holiday, including him saying that his name was Carlos, when it’s really Charlie! This causes a lot of witty banter between the two and a whole lot of chaos! They end up getting forced back together on a school trip! As things unfold, things between these two get spicy and a romance forms! I really enjoyed the plot of the story and found it to be well executed! The main characters were both likable and I really enjoyed reading this book! Don’t forget to read the content warnings. I think fans of Emily Henry would really enjoy reading this book! Overall, I give this a 4 out of 5 stars rating!
Thank you NetGalley, author Kristen Bailey and Storm Publishing for this electronic arc of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This book is expected to be published on July 18, 2025
I’m exhausted. This book was like a long, boring, cringey soap opera.
It was supposed to be a one-night-stand-turned-romance, but the romance was just a clumsy subplot in this sorry tale about nothing.
Charlie and Suzie had all the ingredients to be lovable characters — Charlie, a guardian to his younger siblings; Suzie, a woman trying to bring balance back into her life after her longtime partner cheated on her.
And yet… they didn’t work. There was too much cringe, fabricated drama, and general blandness to get invested in this story.
I kinda hated the side characters too. At first, I thought the cousins’ dynamic was wholesome, but then it went downhill fast. There was way too much nosiness and a complete lack of boundaries for my taste.
The cousins not only pried all the juicy details from Suzie, but they also shared what they knew with other teachers at the school where Charlie and Suzie worked. That’s beyond inappropriate.
On the other hand, Suzie just wouldn’t shut up about what happened with Charlie, so the cousins probably didn’t have to work hard to get all the details. What’s with everyone oversharing their sex life? With people you literally JUST met?? With COLLEAGUES you just met?!?! The cringe! Where’s HR when we need them! 😭
The writing wasn’t bad, but it didn’t save this mess.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This sounds like Change of Heart, which I adored! 😍
Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the arc.
I finally had time to finish this one, and I had such a great time reading it! It’s a perfect summer read, it captures the essence of the season so beautifully, especially in the scenes set in Mallorca: the warmth of the sun, the salty breeze, the sound of the waves, and that feeling of freedom, joy, and endless possibilities.
The story follows Suzie, a French teacher with a broken heart, and Charlie, a Spanish teacher (appreciation for a bit of Spanish, loved that! 😂) with the kindest of hearts, who unexpectedly find themselves in a one-in-a-million kind of connection. Their bond forms in the most unusual way, and it’s both funny and sweet to watch it grow as they navigate work, life, and second chances.
As someone from Latin America, I’m not super familiar with London-style banter but I somehow totally got it and really enjoyed it!
I absolutely loved the cousins, they were hilarious and brought so much energy to the story. Lucy totally stole the show for me; I need her book, like, now. She had me cracking up constantly.
The romance between Suzie and Charlie was really sweet, though I would’ve loved a few more meaningful moments between them to fully feel the emotional buildup. Still, this was a fun, light, and really cute read.
Big thanks to NetGalley and Kristen Bailey for my first ARC! I’ll definitely be reading more from this author. ☀️📚💛
Sun, sangria… and a surprise staffroom reunion? ☀️📚
What happens in Mallorca definitely doesn’t stay in Mallorca in this spicy, sun-soaked romcom packed with chaos, chemistry, and second chances.
Suzie Callaghan’s life implodes when she catches her husband in the ultimate betrayal. Heartbroken and newly separated, she jets off to Mallorca with her cousins in search of distraction, sunshine, and sangria. What she doesn’t expect? A steamy holiday fling with a stranger who rescues her mid-skinny dip. Their chemistry is instant… until she returns home and finds out he’s not Carlos at all—he’s Charlie, her new co-worker and the school’s Spanish teacher. Awkward.
From accidental nudity to faculty meetings with a man she’s already seen naked, Hot To Go is a splash of light-hearted fun. Kristen Bailey blends familiar romcom tropes with British humour, a quirky cast, and more than a few eyebrow-raising scenes. It's a light-hearted, low-stakes summer romance that's more about fun than depth, which is exactly what I was looking for. While the heat level might be a bit much for some readers (think 2 chilies 🌶️🌶️), it ticks the boxes for an easy, escapist summer read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A light, cheeky read with plenty of summer vibes. Recommended for readers who love messy heroines, racy escapades, and second-chance spice.
Thank you Netgalley and to Storm Publishing as well as the author for providing me with this ARC, in exchange for my honest review.
I would like to note that while I am incredibly honored, I have come to the realization, that I am not the intended audience for this content, and therefore had to DNF this book at 21%. I tried very hard to enjoy it but it just wasn't for me.
A summery, sweet, fun-loving story of two teachers and a one night stand. As I write this review, it is 97° in the shade. And it is wildly hot on a beach vacation for Charlie and Suzie. While in Mallorca, they connect and hook up for a one night stand. They each give a fake name.
Little do they know that Charlie and Susie ware going to be coworkers, fellow teachers on the same staff in London. This makes things a little awkward. But there’s a lot of great chemistry between them and they have satisfying banter. A great beach read for the summer and a cute one night stand turned relationship story.
I liked this story and read it quickly. There was good anticipation built up as we know the characters are bound to end up together. I very much enjoyed this authors Christmas story We Three Kings so I jumped at the chance to read this one. I didn’t connect to the characters as much, but she still writes really funny situational romantic comedy.
Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC. Book to be published July 17, 2025.
Just this week I watched a tiktok video of a 20 something guy eating oatmeal and drinking coffee from a mug on a park bench when he was interrupted by and older woman asking him what he was doing. I thought it was going to be one of those moments where someone inserts themselves into someone else’s life to spread unnecessary hate but instead she said this:
“you are cultivating your own life….you are an inspiration to everyone.”
what pure chance and luck it is to come across someone who sees you as you are and finds it magnificent. It’s kind of magical in a way that these two random strangers meet in such an unlikely way and for a moment they are kindred spirits. And I think that’s what this book is like.
It was stars aligning and near misses and signs from the universe. It was sweet and light and funny. It was new beginnings. And I loved every second of it.
Suzie is sunshine and clear blue skies. She is so bright and witty and brave. She’s had a rough go of it but still maintains that’s lovely shining personality. I knew I loved her when she said “Literature and sunlight will soothe my soul. To hell with men.” so thank you Suzie for my new life motto. I love Suzie so much. I love the big wonderful support system she has and the new one she gained from Charlie. I’ve loved getting to know them all.
and Charlie. He is the sweetest gentleman and also a big dork in the cutest way. He is funny and kind and warm. He embodies the feeling you get when you wear your favorite comfy sweater. you just feel safe and taken care of. He is also such a romantic. I mean you don’t say, “You’re not just my girlfriend, you’re the other half of me.” and expect me not to swoon and giggle. This man had me blushing and it is a shame he’s only fictional.
Both Suzie and Charlie spent so much time thinking about what their futures are supposed to look like. You’re supposed to get married and have a perfect job with a perfect house and perfect kids and everything in life is just perfect. But that’s not a real life. Nothing is ever picture perfect and sometimes that vision that you have for your future isn’t the one you end up with. Humans are fickle beings. We grow and change. We make decisions and then change our minds. We love and learn and hurt and forgive. Suzie says it best I think:
“Maybe the future is overrated. There’s something special about living in the now, in perfect smaller moments with someone who makes you laugh so hard your face hurts, for taking each beautifully sunny day as it comes.”
The future is not set in stone. Anything can happen at any time that might knock you from the path you set yourself on. And that’s okay. Sure it can be scary and hard. But life is pretty beautiful too. So instead of spending time worrying about the future, maybe we should all take a page out of Suzie and Charlie’s story and focus on the now. Focus on all the people that love us and all the things we love right now. Because that’s what’s important. You spend too much time looking to the future that you’ll blink and miss the present. And you’ll miss so much life and love and adventure that way.
I’ve absolutely adored this book. Much more than I ever thought I would. Thank you Kristen Bailey for this book! I cannot wait to dive into your other books. Consider me a new fan!
Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC!!
And be sure to check out Hot To Go tomorrow (July 18th)!! I can’t wait to celebrate this book with everyone!
Super fun vacation romance. Bonus points for teacher MCs. First time reading this author and I will definitely be reading more. Love a good Brit romcom bc it’s actually got funny parts. Great banter and some steam. Overall really enjoyable.
Kristen Bailey does it again with this spicy and very funny holiday romance that is the perfect summer read! I loved that Charlie and Suzie had instant chemistry even though they didn’t really know each other but when they reappeared in each other’s lives, it took some time to find their way into a relationship even though all the signs were pointing that way. I loved all of the cities they visited. It made me feel like I was there. I also enjoyed Suzie and Charlie’s colleagues and students, Suzie’s cousins who apparently have books of their own, and Charlie’s relationship with his younger siblings. It was also nice to see Zoe from Textbook Romance again, one of my favorite books by Kristen Bailey. Thank you to Storm Publishing and Kristen Bailey for the opportunity to read this early.
A rom com with actual com! A great balance of spice, comedy, angst & decent characters you care about. There were chapters & scenes I would have loved to have seen expanded, but overall a great read.
this was.... okay. a little bit boring and hard to get into, especially when both povs sound the same. even the paragraphs of inner monologues are structured the same way, and no two people think exactly the same.
there was certainly an effort to make the writing sound comedic and, while it worked sometimes, there were occasions when it just made me cringe and it felt a bit forced.
as for the rom part of the rom com, i couldn't really feel the chemistry between the characters. it happened. they hooked up. then they met up again. then this. then that. it felt very factual, a sequence of events on a timeline, and it didn't click with me.
thank you to netgalley and the publisher for sending me an arc in exchange for a honest review
Suzie finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, so she decides to quit everything, take a new job, and go on a girls' trip to Mallorca with her cousins. There, she meets Charlie — they share one steamy night together… and then lose all contact 🙃 Fast forward … they’re now coworkers 👀
Tropes: • dual POV, 1st person • one bed • workplace romance • sexual tension • 3rd act breakup
Quote: Max always tells me there's a test to know if you really love someone or not,and that's when you wake up in the morning, and the sight of them and the smell of their morning breath doesn't completely scares you.
Suzie and Charlie have great chemistry and their banter feels natural and effortless. I love Charlie, he's caring, shy, adorable, funny — and his relationship with his siblings? So wholesome 🥺
It’s not a wow-this-changed-my-life kind of book, but it’s a light, entertaining rom-com that made me giggle more than once 🤭
Perfect pick for your vacation bag 🌴☀️ You know what they say… a couple who laughs together, stays together 🤭

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange my honest opinion!
3.5⭐️ First of all, thank you NetGalley, and Storm Publishing for this electronic arc of this book in exchange for my honest review. This was a really nice swoony summer romance filled with sun, holidays and cute meet-ups. It's funny, the characters are kinda nerdy - prepare for linguist banter,
The writing was a bit confusing at times, the chapters with both POVs made me forget who's POV we were reading about. There were a few spelling mistakes and typos which I couldn't ignore. There's also a lot of references to pop culture and GenZ slang which I understand they're teachers and it's relevant in the story for some of it, but it was a lot? and it's not going to age well? Also the smut scenes weren't always the best, I think the setting was not ideal, always with people around, and not enough time. The first smut scene though since it was not very detailed was good.
Overall, Charlie & Suzie were very cute, I liked the European setting and I liked the fact that the vocabulary and the metric system were European (I can't take any more descriptions in feet and inches).
Oh this is a perfect summer read! Suzie and Charlie have a meet cute and instant chemistry on vacation - where they are Aurelie and Carlos. When they get back to their real lives, and end up working in classrooms side by side, the chemistry is still there. Sometimes lies and life makes it harder for them to connect and form a real relationship. I couldn't stop reading to see how they could overcome everything together.
This is a funny story, full of hilarious side characters. It shows how love can take time and life can make it hard. I rooted for Suzie and Charlie the whole time, and fell in love with their families.
Man. I love Kristen Bailey and very much did not love this book. The setup was fun — a vacation hookup gets messy bc the hooker-uppers turn out to be teachers at the same school. Cue the hijinks! Or not? Mostly this just felt cringey and depressing — like, girl, stop doing his work for him. Maybe he doesn’t need a room full of sombreros or whatever? Bleh. I’m bummed this was not what I was hoping for, but I’ll still 100% be reading Bailey’s next book.
* thanks to Storm Publishing for the NetGalley review copy (pub date: July 2025)
Hot To Go had me laughing out loud from the very first chapter. It’s awkward, hilarious but also sweet and relatable. Holiday one night stand turned into more when the MCs realize they teach at the same school and have to take a school trip together 🤭
I enjoyed both MCs and their support systems with their family. You can tell how well loved and protected they are even though some of these cousins were nosy, chaotic and messy as heck. Aside from the over sharing and lack of boundaries, they were an extremely fun bunch to meet and seeing their banter always left me giggling right along with them.
2.5 🌶️ | Scenes weren’t overly explicit that it took away from the book (in my opinion) - short, sweet and to the point.
If you’re looking for a rom-com summer vacation read, I definitely recommend this one!
♡ Dual POV ♡ European summer holiday romance ♡ Strangers to lovers ♡ Forced proximity ♡ One bed
💌 Thank you NetGalley, Kristen Bailey and Storm Publishing for this eARC!
What happens on vacation, stays on vaction. You would think so right? Well that's not the case for Suzie and Charlie. Suzie is going through an ugly break up who goes on holiday with her cousins in Mallorca. She meets Charlie, *cough cough* I mean "Carlos", and they have a steamy romance. When Suzie goes home to reality and her job as a french teacher, she meets the new spanish teacher who so happens to be Charlie. As they deal with the shock and still lingering attraction, they try to figure out if this could be something more or something that should have stayed in Mallorca.
This was cute and at times a bit quirky rom com. I enjoyed the humor and the spice wasn't over the top. I would definitely recommend this as a fun summer read that is easily bingeable by the pool or over the weekend. 3.5 stars rounded up
Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for this arc
Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book!
I literally had the best time reading this book. On holiday, in the sun is really the perfect setting for this read!
Suzie and Charlie were perfect and I loved reading about their chemistry and all of the banter and fun they had together.
This book genuinely made me laugh out loud so so much and I was cracking up a throughout the whole thing. The first line of the book? Incredible.
I also really enjoyed all of the side characters. The cousins were fantastic, all of the teachers and their side plots/relationships, it was just lovely.
It’s really made me want to read more of Kristen Baileys work and I think I will be delving into her back catalogue of books!
I really wanted to love this one...the description had me thinking of warm holidays and total escapism.
The problem for me was that I just didn't really fall in love with these characters. Both Suzie and Charlie are just...fine. They don't really have fun, I-want-to-root-for-you personalities.
I will say, my first thoughts were - "this is an interesting way to start a book". Really different (i didnt hate it).
Thank you very much to the publishers and NetGalley for the advanced copy. All views are my own.
Thank you to the author and the publisher Storm Publishing for allowing me access to an e-read ARC of this book.
Meet Suzie, teacher and newly single thanks to her husband of two years having an affair! Suzie leaves her home and job for a fresh start. With the summer holidays ahead before starting her new job, there's time for a girls' holiday with her five cousins. Hooking up with Carlos, holiday fling, Suzie (using the alias Aurelia from Fance) wasn't expecting to fall for him, but after he stands her up, she goes home disappointed. September arrives, and Suzie is not the only new teacher to start. Suzie is shocked to find Carlos is the new Spanish teacher, only he's not Carlos from Spain, he's Charlie from England! We then follow the highs and lows as the pair try to make a go of the relationship as their true self's without the magic of Spain.
I loved this book. It's a fab, fun summer read, filled with so many funny and satirical points. I was constantly reading out sections to family as they queried my laughter! I loved both Suzie and Charlie's characters and the beautiful relationship each has with their families. Their attitude and connection to their pupils had me wishing they had taught me at school! I loved hearing their inner dialogue and how it showed that relationships aren't always sunshine and roses. They can be messy with misread signs and false starts. Yes there were moments where you could guess what might happen next but that in no way spoiled it for me. I enjoyed meeting other members of staff and was pleased to discover they have their own stories, which I can't wait to pick up. If you're looking for a hilarious summer romance for your holiday read, look no further! This is the book for you!
yeah so i loved this a lot. like this was a true rom com type book and it was everything i needed.
the quote though that after I read it had me going YES!! was “maybe the future is overrated. there’s something special about living in the now, in perfect smaller moments with someone who makes you laugh so hard your face hurts, for taking each beautifully sunny day as it comes” bc that’s for real what I’ve been doing recently. the future is a scary thing to think about, so living in the now has been a truly fun journey. going on trips, seeing a bunch of concerts, going on little adventures with my friends… all of the small things. after graduating college a year ago, everyone is always like “so what now?” and my answer is usually i don’t know and that’s okay!! like you may have thoughts on what you want to do, but that’s, again, in the future. i like my life how it is right now and that’s enough for me.
suzie and charlie were a gorgeous couple, I truly loved them. their relationship had some bumps, but they always found their way back to each other like me next!! just the way they talked to each other and handled each other with care was MWAH!!!!
thanks to my bestie who’s been living in the moment with me and also telling me to read this gorgeous book! i can always trust your judgement!!
I loved everything about this book! 🤩 It’s my favourite out of the Kristen Bailey books I’ve read so far (and I’ve loved the others)!!
We meet main characters Suzie as she finds out that her partner Paul has been cheating on her with someone he met at the gym!! All credit to Suzie, she absolutely does not put up with this and leaves him immediately, after throwing some food at his head 👏🏻 Having moved to a new place and securing a new job as a French teacher at the local secondary school, Suzie sets off on holiday to Majorca with her cousins ☀️
In Majorca she meets Charlie, or Carlos as Suzie comes to know him as. Suzie also gives a fake name and the two of them have an immediate spark, despite pretending to be people they aren’t. But when a freak accident means Suzie and Charlie don’t reunite before heading back to the UK, they both try and move on with their lives. That is until they meet again at work - Suzie as the French teacher and Charlie as the Spanish teacher, both newly employed.
Things are frosty between them at first and when they do eventually try to recreate the magic of Majorca, it falls flat. Was it just destined to be a holiday fling? Or is there something more between them?
Laugh out loud funny, utterly relatable, witty, charming, full of heart and humour, just brilliant! This is exactly the kind of book that I love. Characters who you just fall in love with and want the best for. I was soooooo cross with Paul and his antics towards the end!!!! 😡 The most perfect summer read, I only wish I’d have been on holiday whilst reading it!! ☀️
This book has it all! Lots of humor, feel-good moments, emotional moments, and a lot of spice.
When Suzie finds out her husband Paul is having an affair, she decides to leave Paul and her job behind. Her cousins invite her on a vacation to Mallorca where she meets her holiday fling: Carlos aka Charlie! The steamy romance, the chemistry - it is all there! When Suzie returns home and starts her new job as a French teacher, she runs into this new Spanish teacher, who just happens to be Charlie aka Carlos! A holiday fling doesn’t always stay a holiday fling!
My thoughts: This lighthearted story was a fun read. Both Charlie and Suzie are such fun and lovely characters. Sometimes I was very exhausted from all the drama and all the side characters and I think it was a little too much. There were times where it was hard to keep track of each character and who was who. I definitely recommend reading this book on vacation to match the vacation vibes!
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this funny, lighthearted book!
This was such a fun read with the perfect mix of sunshine, and slow-burn romance. I loved the witty banter, the awkward (but hilarious) school moments, and the undeniable chemistry between Suzie and "not-Carlos". The writing had an easy, breezy flow that made it impossible to put down. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if your vacation fling followed you home and then sat next to you in a staff meeting... this book is for you! A perfect escape with just the right amount of spice and swoon.
Thank you to Storm Publishing via netgalley for the eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Hot to Go was such a fun and flirty read. Kristen Bailey does such a great job with characters that feel real and a little messy in the best way. The banter was sharp, the chemistry was on point, and I actually laughed out loud a few times.
I also loved that it wasn’t just about the romance. The friendships and personal growth made the story even better. There were a couple parts that felt a little rushed, but overall it was a quick, lighthearted read that left me smiling.
If you want something funny, sweet, and a little spicy, this is a great pick!
Meh. This was reasonably enjoyable, but lacked any kind of character development or strong storyline. I get it's supposed to be a light and fluffy summer read about a couple who meet on holiday and then meet again back home in London but....This just lacked the charm of other books I've read by Kristen Bailey. A lot of the conversations and situations just felt very staged, very cliche and cringe. And while I can take a certain amount of fluff and fun I need something more substantial at times to fill out the story. It's attempted, certainly, as Suzie and Charlie come from similar backgrounds with no living parents, but the backstory felt forced to me and I just couldn't get myself to feel anything for these characters and their relationship.
A fun read, but for me not all that memorable. I'll stick to Kristen Bailey Christmas books.
⭐️⭐️⭐️, 🌶️🌶️ It was an okay story. Had some really sweet moments. Charlie kept this book alive for me. He was perfect. Suzie was just okay. The cousins, especially Beth, were very obnoxious. Beth and Suzie were technically cousins but they thought of themselves as sisters. Suzie started working at the school where Beth worked. Beth felt the need to gossip about Suzie. So everyone knew Suzie’s intimate life stories. What a way to start a new job! 😬🙄🤦♀️
My Thoughts: Kristen Bailey is a favorite of mine when it comes to romantic comedies. Her writing is easy to binge and has that witty and fun banter that never crosses over to slapstick immaturity. I loved how this book centered around teachers like some of her previous books, and I definitely loved that the FMC shared my name! Both Charlie and Suzie were lovable, fun characters that had great chemistry together. I also enjoyed how fate kept throwing them together in totally unexpected circumstances. Charlie's love for his family was really endearing, and I would have loved just a bit more of that along the way. It was nice to see his siblings cheer him on and encourage him to find happiness. Suzie's storyline did rub me the wrong way just a bit near the end when some information was revealed that totally caught me off guard. I understood why those circumstances caused conflict, but I really wished it had been addressed a bit earlier. There was already a good amount of miscommunication, and this secret was just a bit much. The other thing that kept this from being a full 4 stars is that the relationship relied heavily on the physical. I am fine with reading open door books, but I wanted a little more time with the characters getting to know each other other than what we did get. While most of the intimate moments were fade to black, the details were brought up in conversations later, making this book very much open door. There's also lots of innuendo and comedic situations involving intimacy that would make it hard for closed door readers to skip. I'll definitely still read more from Kristen Bailey, but this one just wasn't quite a hit for me.
