You thought you were its master, but look at the pathetic, grief-ridden creature you've become. You've sold your soul, and now nothing can justify the things you did for "love".
And you? You better keep your mouth shut, or you'll end up like the little princess, buried deep underground.
Haunted by grief and a shadow, Avaerin has fled to the edge of the world, searching for answers about the otherworldly powers that killed his beloved Elin.
A powerful witch reveals that the violet moon is soon to return, connecting their world to a volatile source of magic. She offers him one last chance at redemption: he is tasked with finding a girl he has never met and bringing her to safety before her burgeoning powers consume her or fall into the wrong hands.
As Avaerin's path leads him into a dark abyss full of ancient secrets, Simaria, a young woman in the storm-plagued city of Tymris, is given a bitter liquid by her cruel and ruthless father, awakening a sinister rage inside her she can't control. And in the north, Maeriya, the granddaughter of the university's librarian, is hiding a secret of her own, avoiding the political intrigues of the people who surround her, until she meets Rhay, a young nobleman with bright emerald green eyes and an inner despair that could destroy both their lives.
They don't know it yet, but their fates are forever intertwined. Will they find a way to survive the monsters hiding in the darkness, or will they be the first to burn?
A Violet Moon takes place before the events of A Whispered Oath. Welcome to the old world.

Please take care of yourself. This book is for an adult audience. It's not appropriate for children. The intimate scenes happen behind closed doors.
I had the privilege of reading this ARC, and I’m still reeling from it. The world-building is immersive, the magic system intricate and dangerous, and the story itself pulses with tension. Every character is forged through trials and trauma, only to realize they’re not battling separate demons but the very same monster wearing different faces. This is a tale of ruthless power and the brave souls who dare to rise against it. And this is only the beginning. The Violet Moon ignites the series with a spark that promises an inferno to come and now I’m left impatient, desperate for the next installment.
I revived an ARC from the author so this is my honest review.
The beginning is confusing but holy crap when you get into the story it gets real good real fast. I adore each of the characters and they have me on my toes at all times.
I fear I need more sooner than the author can give.
The book was a bit confusing with the way it gave it information. Right off the bat we are introduced to a lot of concepts and characters, which are thrown at us as if we are supposed to know what/who they are. The writing in itself is ok, although some sentences are all over the place. Also some characters were hard for me to connect to emotionally, but that might just be me.
Because of those things I struggled to get into the book at first, but around halfway mark, things became intense and very interesting, so I'm glad I got to read it and I'm really interested where this journey will get us!
At the beginning, this book felt a bit confusing, but soon it had me completely engaged! The magic system is immersive and dangerous, filled with betrayal, loss and tension. It explores topics of ruthless power and those willing to stand against it. Each character is fighting their own battles, emotional hardship and scars, ultimately realizing they are all battling the same monster. Overall, I really enjoyed this first book and am intrigued to dive into the next book in the series! Thak you to the author for this eARC, this is my honest review.
This story is quite captivating: full of magic, loss, betrayal, and what constitutes love and family. I do think I would have liked more background on the kingdom(s) and the history because it took me a bit to get my bearings, but the characters and their plights certainly carry this tale. I definitely want to know more.
3.5*, rating up because this author is certainly creating a world that doesn't lack for originality or scale. Execution is unfortunately the weak spot, with (and this is something I don't think I've ever complained about before) too much showing and not enough telling. Or, at the very least, not enough clues breadcrumbed in to fully understand the entire plot.
The first half of the book suffers more from this than the second half, and while the story isn't necessarily difficult to follow, it's hard to see where all of the threads are leading to for a while. There are a few POV characters, too, though I will say that each of them has their own interesting plotline, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they all end up.
I will certainly read the next book in the series, and hope to see this author grow as the story moves along.
I was given the opportunity to read and review this ARC and I am glad I was able to do so. The world building, magical systems, and story are intriguing. Each person goes through trials and trauma, but they find that they are all fighting the same beast. This is a story of those in power and those that will fight it. This is a first in series! So if you don’t like waiting for the next book, put this on your TBR for now. The Violet Moon is only the beginning and I can't wait to read the next part.
