He’s spent a lifetime running into danger. But nothing prepared him for this.
Battalion Chief Dave Robinson is retiring after more than three decades on the front lines. Fires, rescues, life-and-death decisions—he’s seen it all. But when his life-long friends surprise him with a retirement trip of a lifetime, Dave is pulled into a mystery that stretches far beyond the dangers of the fireground.
Thousands of miles away, Melanie—a young volunteer at a wildlife rescue center deep in the Bolivian jungle—disappears without a trace. Her final moments, captured on a damaged phone, hint at something impossible. Something monstrous.
As Dave searches for answers, he uncovers a chilling connection that forces him to confront not only a new kind of predator, but the haunting how do you fight what you don’t believe can exist, and who can you really trust?
Gripping, grounded, and relentlessly suspenseful, Ravenous is a harrowing blend of survival horror and procedural thriller.
Step into the fire—order Ravenous now and experience a nightmare you’ll never forget.
I read the whole book and there was maybe 10 minutes of creature time. The rest was a buddy camping trip with psycho love obsession and hired killer plot. No back story to the monster other than “local legends”. Ending was rushed and offered nothing.
Stay far away from this book. The author spends so much time over explaining everything that the story is just boring. There’s a monster, but I don’t care because every detail is explained to death. Stay far away from this book. It is not a good one!
RAVENOUS is the story of Fire Chief Dave Robinson and his 3 lifelong friends who take the trip of a lifetime, camping in Bolivia, that, deliberately, goes terribly wrong. Durkee, as always, does a great job of letting us get to know all the characters before the mayhem begins, so his books tend to be a bit of a slow burn style that thriller aficionados will appreciate. The story itself is well written, with a number of surprises I won't spoil for you. If you like survival thrillers with a supernatural element, add RAVENOUS to your short list! 4/5 stars!
The details about the trip was fun to read. Especially about the road trip, I could feel the heat building up in the vehicle and was so uncomfortable. Also all the bumps in the road they were going down. You could feel the horror seeing the beast. Very good story to read.
I had a feeling about the villain from the start….something was off. Little did I know why. I was a little mad about the underlying plot and how it could have been so easily avoided. The first part of the book dragged a bit but the second half made up for it. The characters were so appealing I was encouraged to read on. Very exciting book!
Cities gas put together a really good mystery, horror thriller. I would have liked a little more storyline on the monster. But overall good characters and storyline. I will be sure to look for other books by the author.
This was a good little creep fest. The big question in it was who was the real monster. It was fast paced as it went alone and the characters were interesting.
