A mother will stop at nothing to save her daughter...
When Kate Grosvenor’s daughter embarks on a gap year, Kate’s worst nightmare becomes a reality. A frantic call from an American woman reveals that their daughters, traveling together, have gone missing.
Desperate and determined, Kate’s search takes her from London to Europe, and finally to America. What she doesn’t know is that her daughter’s disappearance is linked to a stepson she hasn’t seen in years – a man who was disinherited after his father’s death and now harbours a dark desire for revenge.
As Kate’s past and present collide in a terrifying twist, she must race against time to rescue her daughter from a vengeful stepson’s deadly pursuit. But how far will she go to protect her child when the stakes are this high?
Jill has always loved stories - real and imaginary. She's spent 30 years travelling the world as a journalist, living overseas and reporting wherever the news took her. She's now made her home in London with her husband and twin girls who love stories as much as she does.
Although she's covered everything from earthquakes and floods, riots and wars, she's found some of the most extraordinary stories right here at home - in the secrets and lies she imagines behind closed doors on ordinary streets, just like yours.
I couldn't put this one down! So many twists and turns that had me needing to know what comes next. Kate has already lost so much, when she thinks her daughter Clara is in trouble she will stop at nothing to find her and keep her safe, no matter the cost. This is a story of a mother's love and how far she will go to protect her child.
I really liked Kate and her fierce love and determination. In contrast Jonathan was evil personified! I enjoyed the cat and mouse situation between them and the twisted storyline that has a few shocking turns.
The author did a fabulous job of conveying a mother's grief and how that can be all consuming. But we also get to see how children without that love can grow up to be spiteful and bitter. The story is really well written, nicely paced and although far-fetched in places, it really worked and made sense, I was completely hooked. I loved the ending as everything comes together in a satisfying way. I definitely recommend this one to psychological thriller lovers!
Huge thanks to the author, Netgalley, the publisher and Love Books Tours for providing a copy of the book to review.
This was my first read by this author and I absolutely loved the whole premise and all the twists and turns that had me racing through the pages.
The characters were all well presented and developed over the story.
I liked that we had a little bit of background at the start of the book which gave me just that bit of unease and doubt before the main storyline took over.
I really felt for Kate, whose life was pretty near perfect until event after event took hold and left her reeling.
I don't want to say too much for fear of spoilers, but I will say that it really is every mother's nightmare come true and I really felt my heart pounding throughout.
I liked the ay the storylines threaded around each other and the book flowed with ease.
The atmosphere was tense and with this and it already being fast paced, I just couldn't put this down.
A really well written thriller which had me hooked from start to finish.
What would you do for your daughter? That was the question that kept running through my mind as I read this thriller. The author did an excellent job of keeping me on the edge of my seat, nervous and anxious as I watched this psycho do his bidding. My worst fears were all present in this novel, and I couldn’t put it down. The plot was well-crafted and executed, keeping me glued to it. I will definitely read more of this author’s work. Thanks, Boldwood Books via NetGalley.
A gripping, thrilling and emotional read. Several times throughout the book I was desperately hoping the plot wasnt go to go the way I thought it would. . I've read a few books featuring this topic and Daughter, Missing is well worth reading.
Wow this book was dark and heartbreaking! I loved the premise and it did make me cry!
The cover is eye-catching. I would definitely pick this up in a bookshop. The colours of the womens' coats is striking against the darker blue of the background. Excellent design job.
The book is well written and flows perfectly. The research gone into the book was exquisite and all issues are dealt with in a very sensitive and caring manner.
The book is an absolute page turner. I could not put it down. It was full of so many twists and shocks!
The characters are excellent. I felt so sad for Kate. Jonathan was a horrible child. Damien is pure evil. I managed to work out who he was pretty quickly.
kate receives a phone call from an american, saying that she is worried about her daughter who is travelling with kate’s daughter. what kate doesn’t know is that the girls are linked to her stepson who holds a grudge over kate and her family.
oooo this was so good. so many different twists that i wasn’t expecting. it felt very well developed and then fact that everything linked up was so crazy. this was my first book by this author and i will definitely be reading more!!
Kate's daughter Clara has decided to take a gap year before starting university to travel round Europe, even though she's not keen on the idea she knows she can't stop her. Then Kate receives a call that any mother would dread, the woman on the phone is from America and claims that her daughter Amy and Clara were flatmates in Amsterdam and have both gone missing. Both Kate and Maddy decide to fly over there to find their daughters and bring them home, but there's one thing that Kate doesn't know yet, this is all linked to her stepson who she hasn't seen since he was ten and then, when his father died, he was cut out of the will and now he wants revenge, but it's not just Kate that's in his sights.
Daughter, Missing is the new domestic thriller by Childs and is a fast paced, well crafted story, told from multiple perspectives including the perpetrator who felt the need to avenge these people for how his life had turned out. The author delves into the lives of the characters over the years and we see why Kate doesn't want her stepson anywhere near her children, but also to a certain extent why he felt the way he did because of his parents. As a mother myself, it brought many emotions to my door whilst reading this and I questioned myself what I would do if I found myself in the same situation as Kate and Maddy, the answer was quite simple; I would do everything in my power to protect my children, regardless of the outcome. This complex tale had some great twists along the way, many of which I did guess but this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story. This is the first I've read by this author, but it certainly won't be the last and I look forward to reading more of her work.
I'd like to thank Boldwood Books and Netgalley for inviting me to read this, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.
I haven't read anything by Jill Childs before (I know, where have I been living?!!?) but if this book is anything to go by, I won't be making that mistake in the future.
This is a tense and atmospheric psychological thriller that is full of twists and turns many of them unexpected. It's written at a steady pace with excellent characters and whilst not all of them are particularly likeable, they are well developed and really interesting.
The plot is enthralling and had me reading way longer into the night than I should and whilst there are bits that are a little implausible, it didn't ruin my enjoyment of this book and I have no hesitation in recommending it to lovers of psychological thrillers that aren't full of violence and gore.
Thanks to the author, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this absorbing book.
Yes! This book was fantastic. The perfect blend of tension, deceit and revenge and once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. The start of the book sets the scene perfectly and builds just the right amount of unease before moving into the main aspect of the plot. It’s a pacy thriller and you feel as if you’re living every moment through Kate’s anguish. Highly recommended, thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for the chance to review.
Daughter, Missing by Jill Childs. This was a really good read. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. Jonathan/Damien were really pure evil. I did not like him at all. I did love Kate for her persistence. I liked the writing style and the story. Twisty and gripping. I thought i knew what was going on. But I was so wrong. I hope there is more to come. Especially how it has ended. I definitely recommend this book.
My goodness this was a great thrilling read. Cleverly written and it gripped me throughout, fast paced and twists. The POV in this book worked really well in how the story unfolded. I can’t say too much without giving too much away but the way the story linked together was so good. A definite 5⭐️ read for me and an author I will be reading more of!
Daughter, Missing by Jill Childs is an absolute standout- one of the best books I’ve read this year. The plot is brilliant and so well written that it had me hooked from the very first page. It’s not just a gripping mystery; it’s also a moving, emotional story that really resonated with me.
What stood out most was how the story captures a mother’s instincts- that fierce, unwavering love and determination. No matter what challenges life throws, the heart of a mother never gives up. That theme gave the story a real warmth amidst the suspense.
Jill Childs masterfully weaves in twists and turns that kept me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Just when you think you know what’s coming, she surprises you.
This is a story of extreme psychological warfare. A young man thinks he is done wrong, so revenge is on the menu. When Kate gets the call from another mother that a young woman is missing, a young woman living with her daughter, she fears the worst. A trip to Amsterdam will forever change them. Will they find their daughters? A surprising link between them will change these two moms and set them on a path full of danger.
This was a crazy wild book. It was full of drama and danger. It was definitely a psychological read. Two mothers, two daughters, one undeniable deadly link. This book was captivating start to finish and oh man, what a finish! Parenting is hard. This book shows the mental toll that can be played on the mind. It also shows the twisty, macabre, and coldness of a psycho.
*I want to thank Netgalley and the author for this book in return for my honest review*
This was a great read, a mothers love is everything. When Kates husband dies, then her daughter of a drug overdose, she’s out to find the person who sold/gave her daughter the drugs, she won’t stop. She follows her other daughter to Amsterdam to keep her safe. The plot is intense, with a brilliant ending. I really enjoyed reading the last few chapters, the twists really pulled the story together. A twisty 4.5 thriller. Thanks to Betgalley and the publishers for a copy.
Loved this book as it centers on two mothers who are looking for their young daughters in Amsterdam, a place known for rampant drug use. Kate lost her younger daughter, Bella when she was young, and now daughter, Clara has gone off and Kate is obviously worried. Estranged son, Jonathan was always jealous and she hasn't seen him in years. Then we have Maddy--Dr. M--who lost her husband and realizes her daughter is also missing. This is my favorite kind of crazy-convoluted plot that keeps me reading on the edge of my seat! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
People often say that mothers are creatures who can be very kind and loving, but beware if you touch their children. They can transform in an instant into real lionesses that even the best lion tamer wouldn’t dare to approach.

However, Kate’s worst nightmare becomes a reality when she gets a call from Amy’s mother Maddy that their daughters, have gone missing.
Desperate and determined, Kate’s search takes her from London to Europe, and finally to America. What she doesn’t know is that her daughter’s disappearance is linked to her stepson Jonathan. She finds out her husband is cheating on her and while she is out of town at a conference where she is a presenter her husband is robbed and murdered in their home. (However, we do know who did it!) Now her daughter is missing Story was far more involved than I imagined. I was glued!! This is my fifth Jill Childs novel so I should not have been surprised about enjoying this one so much!!! ~ As she DOES NOT disappoint!

⭐️⭐️⭐️.💫
Thanks a million to the author Jill Childs and Boldwood Books publishing for an ARC of this book due to be published July 6th 2025 in exchange for my honest review.
This was a brilliant read and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I will defo be reading more of this authors work going forward.
The plot of this one was just so well thought out and well crafted and the author executed the storyline so well throughout that I was immersed in it and couldnt turn the pages quick enough to find out some answers.
**Small Spoilers Below** DO NOT READ IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS!!!!
The story opens with us being introduced to a family - married couple Simon and Kate Grosvenor and their two young daughters Bella and Clara and their little dog Coco.
Simon was married before when he was younger. This marriage didnt last and they divorced but Simon has another child as a result, a son, Jonathon - He kept paying maintenance and financially providing for his son despite his ex wife not allowing him regular access or visitation.
On a rare allowed visit with Jonathon, Simon takes him to the family home but the visit was strained as Jonathon (the son) was mean to their two little girls Bella and Clara & the dog Coco. Kate found him to be a strange boy and she tells Simon she doesnt want him coming round again. Simon is still welcome to see him of course but Kate just doesnt want him in the house again.
Not long after, the boy starts at a boarding school.
Some more time passes and tragedy strikes the family leaving Kate a young widow when Simon dies of a heart attack on his way to work one morning.
Another year passes, Bella is now 18 and Clara a couple of years younger when tragedy strikes the family a second time and Bella dies of a drug overdose. (I won't say too much else for fear of spoiling the whole storyline!)
This leaves only Kate and her one remaining daughter Clara.
Clara wants to travel after her school exams and take a gap year.
Kate is nervous but doesnt stand in her daughters way as she knows it would only push them further apart.
Clara heads to Amsterdam and some months afterwards, Kates worst nightmare becomes a reality when she receives a call from another mother, the mother of Claras room mate in Amsterdam, worried because she cant reach her own daughter Amy and wants to see can Kate find out any info on her whereabouts from Clara.
Kate understands the fellow mothers worries and tries and tries to reach Clara - she emails and rings but gets no response or call back.
It seems both of their daughters have gone missing in Amsterdam.
The two mothers book flights over there to search for them and try to find out where they are or what has happened.
Thats all I'm saying storyline wise as I dont want to spoil to whole plot for you guys but this was a fantastic read from start to finish guys!
I was hooked!!!!
I read it in one sitting!
I loved Jills writing style and the whole story was just so well structured. I couldnt turn the pages fast enough I was so eager to get to the bottom of what happened. Always a sign of a good book!
Everything was answered by the end and it all tied together so well and left nothing unanswered.
This one was dark, it was twisty and full of drama and suspense.
The story of two daughters, two mothers and one link that links them together!!!
Suspense, lies, deceit, twists and turns .... this story has everything you would want from a domestic thriller.
Every book I have read by this author has just taken my breath away! and her latest book called Daughter, Missing by Jill Childs was no different. You will need tissues and lots of them. This book has a great storyline and is full of twists and turns throughout that will have you taken in, especially as I wanted to find out what happens next.

📚 Jill Childs’ Daughter, Missing is a taut, unsettling psychological thriller that grips from the opening chapter and refuses to let go. What makes this novel stand out is not just its chilling premise—a missing daughter and the unraveling of a family’s fragile bonds—but the way Childs layers suspense with emotional depth, forcing readers to confront the blurred lines between truth, guilt, and survival.
🌒 The novel thrives on tension, with a creeping sense of dread that builds steadily rather than relying on shock alone.
- Childs crafts an atmosphere where ordinary domestic spaces feel unsafe, turning kitchens, bedrooms, and suburban streets into stages for paranoia and betrayal.
- The pacing is deliberate, allowing moments of quiet reflection to heighten the impact of sudden revelations.
👩👧 The mother at the heart of the story is portrayed with raw vulnerability, her grief and desperation palpable yet complicated by secrets she cannot escape.
Secondary characters—friends, neighbors, even investigators—are drawn with enough ambiguity to keep readers guessing who can be trusted.
Childs excels at showing how trauma distorts perception, making every interaction feel charged with suspicion.
🔍 Daughter, Missing explores the fragility of family trust and the corrosive power of hidden truths.
The novel interrogates how far a parent will go to protect their child, and whether love can survive the weight of devastating choices.
Psychological manipulation and the unreliability of memory play central roles, adding layers of complexity to the mystery.
Childs’ prose is sharp and immersive, balancing emotional resonance with the mechanics of suspense.
The narrative structure mirrors the protagonist’s fractured state of mind, weaving past and present into a disorienting but compelling whole.
This technique keeps readers off balance, echoing the protagonist’s own uncertainty.
⭐ Daughter, Missing is a study in how fear reshapes relationships and identity. Jill Childs delivers a story that is both emotionally harrowing and relentlessly suspenseful, ensuring readers will carry its haunting questions long after the final page.
After a series of traumatic events, Kate's daughter Clara decides to take a gap year before heading off to school. Clara has made it clear to Kate that she wants complete independence, no calls, no texts, nothing. When one day, Kate receives a frantic phone call from a woman claiming that she can't get a hold of her daughter who is rooming with Clara, Kate drops everything to help. Especially after she learns that Clara has disappeared as well. Desperate to find their daughters, the two women embark on a journey from London to Europe and ending up in America. As Kate searches for her daughter and for answers, she realizes that Clara's disappearance might be linked to her stepson that was disinherited after his father's death. Kate must race against time to stop from losing the only family she has left. Just how far will a mother go to save their child?
Dark, twisty, and tense Daughter, Missing is a fast-paced psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Childs' beautifully blends family drama and page turning suspense to keep readers entertained and engaged. From the first chapter you are thrown into a wild ride of a story and you won't be able to put it down. Childs' writing is taut and vivid, especially putting emphasis on Kate's grief, fear and determination. I would say that one thing that someone detracted from the story is that there was a lot of foundation laying and set up but then the ending felt a little rushed and like it was tied together too quickly. Overall, a good family/domestic thriller that would be perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell and Freida McFadden!
Thank you to NetGalley, Jill Childs, and Boldwood Books for this ARC! Publication date is July 6th 2025.
People often say that mothers are creatures who can be very kind and loving, but beware if you touch their children. They can transform in an instant into real lionesses that even the best lion tamer wouldn’t dare to approach.
Meet Kate and Maddie, who definitely belong to that category. As they fight, they throw their full weight behind it and are forced to take drastic measures.
Although they start off fighting together for the same goal, it turns out there's much more going on than we, as readers, could ever imagine. I was left in total shock and, at the same time, full of admiration for the author’s creativity—I was glued to my seat.
I could somewhat understand Clara’s request and her feelings toward her mother Kate, but on the other hand, I definitely didn’t approve of her later actions. Of course, that was before I knew what I would later find out—and looking back, I could understand her again. It might sound complicated, but I assure you, once you read the book, you’ll know exactly what I mean.
OMG, this is, in my eyes, a masterful thriller! I think the story is perfectly structured, with just the right amount of psychological manipulation and emotion, and I was constantly jumping from one surprise to the next. One aspect I really enjoyed was that we got to follow the actions of the master manipulator from their own point of view, yet there were still many things that only became clear much later. The author knows exactly where to hang her carefully crafted smoke screen. :) This book is more than worthy of 5 stars.
I thought this was a good read, both fast-paced and engaging. It centers on Kate, whose teenaged daughter Clara is taking some space after multiple tragedies strike their family. Kate is beside herself and just knows in her gut that something is going to go wrong, when she receives a call from another mother saying that their daughters have been living together and she is unable to reach hers. From there, Kate goes on a journey across multiple countries to track her down.
This was an exceptionally interesting storyline because the reader pretty much knows the entire way through who the culprit is, but the characters don't. I think that is a unique style and I liked watching Kate (as well as the other mother) figure things out along the way. The author also was not afraid to kill off characters so the entire read was tense because I didn't know who, if anyone, was going to make it out alive. Kate is a likable character and even when she was a bit over the top, I was able to understand the lengths she went to in order to keep her child safe. The ending felt a little rushed to me- almost like it was too easy to get to where it ended up after how many things happened previously. I was glad it ended the way it did, though the last couple lines really make you think.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read that I had trouble putting down. I'd recommend to those who enjoy mysteries and psychological thrillers. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book takes place over a decade, give or take. We first meet Kate, along with her husband Simon, their two young daughters and their dog Coco. They have a lovely home, the perfect life. Until Johnathon arrives. He is Simon's son from his previous relationship. Raised by an alcoholic mother who chooses drugs and men over him, Johnathan arrives to meet them for the first time, sullen and cold. After witnessing his behaviour, Kate decides she doesn't like him and refuses to have him in her home. The events that happen during this part, leave a lasting impression on Johnathon, who grows angrier over the years, seeking to punish Kate. The story jumps forward to different points in their lives, so we see the aftermath of Simon's death, Johnathon's mothers death, Bella leaving to go to uni and eventually Clara leaving to go travelling. We get to witness just how damaged Johnathan became and how far he will go to punish those he deems responsible for his life not turning out the way he wanted. This was a great read. I find that some books spanning years can often feel choppy, but this one didn't. It was really well-written and kept me hooked. I did guess a few of the twists, but others left me gasping. I genuinely felt so sorry for Kate, being punished for nothing more than following her husbands wishes in his will. This was my first from this author, and I look forward to reading more from her.
How far will a mother go to protect her daughter? Kate Grosvenor will go pretty far! After a falling out leaves Kate's relationship with her daughter Clara on thin ice, Clara goes on a gap year in Europe. Her one demand is for complete independence. No calls, no texts, no emails. When Kate receives a frantic call from Clara's roommate's mother, stating that her daughter is missing, Kate agrees to join her search for her missing daughter... but when she realizes that her daughter is also missing, how far will she go to bring her home safely?
This book was an interesting read. The book was well written and clearly well thought out. The plot twists all made sense. Nothing was thrown in just for shock value. Because of the dual POVs, the reader had more knowledge than Kate for most of the book. I thought that would eliminate some of the suspense, but it didn't. My biggest complaint is that the book had a lot of setup and very little follow-through. I don't mean there were lots of strings left at the end; in fact, everything tied up quite nicely... but it all happened a little too quickly. The book was building and building and then it was just over. I felt a little let down by the ending. Even so, it was a solid 4-star read. This one is a Read It (but you have been warned about the ending).
Note: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
Jill Childs is a new author for me and I was instantly captivated by her writing style. I loved everything about this book, from the sharp characters of the cold step-son Jonathan to the vulnerable females peppered throughout the story.
The story introduces us to Kate Grosvenor, the happy wife of Simon and mother of two daughters, Bella and Clara. Early on we learn that Simon has a son, Jonathan from a previous relationship, who he is trying to get to know better and from there a rollercoaster psychological thriller story of murder, mayhem and intrigue awaits!
As I read this book it gave me the essence of the Liam Neeson film, Taken, where a parent is driven to follow their child to protect them at all costs., no matter the price to pay. We follow Kate through the years as she learns to cope with family tragedy and bereavement, working hard to provide for her daughters and raise them well, but all is not as it seems as a family member has a grudge to avenge...
From London, to Amsterdam and to the United States this fast paced, page turning, twist filled thriller has everything you can want from a great psychological story, characters who have shades of grey, characters with duplicitous intent and those who you are rooting for from page one. The twists are well crafted, often will hidden and even the crumbs that are left in plain sight for the reader have you shouting "no, don't do it" to the pages of your novel - a sure sign of a winning story!
Tense, engaging thriller about a mother's love and her drive to save her daughter at all costs. Kate is the mother of two young adult daughters when her husband dies followed by the death of one of her daughters. Kate tries to hold tight to daughter Clara but when Clara decides to take a year off to travel through Europe, Kate has to agree to let her loose, only Clara stops answering texts and phone calls and Kate can't bear to lose the only loved one she has left.
My Thoughts: This book was interesting because the author tells us who the bad guy is and why they are trying to ruin the life of Kate and her family but Kate doesn't find out until the very end. When Clara is supposed to be in Amsterdam, Kate gets a call from an American woman named Maddy who says her daughter Amy was a roommate of Claras and has disappeared. Kate goes to Amsterdam to meet up with Maddy and the women walk into a web of secrets and violence. I thought the author did a good job of slowly revealing what was going on and I liked the strength of Kate as she fought to save Clara. Thanks NetGallery, Boldwood Book and Author Jill Childs for the complimentary ARC. In appreciation I am leaving my review #NetGalley #BoldwoodBook #JillChiilds #DaughterMissing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When Kate Grosvenor's daughter embarks on a gap year, Kate's worst nightmare becomes a reality. A frantic call from an American woman reveals that their daughters, travelling together, have gone missing. Desperate and determined, Kate's search takes her from London to Europe, and finally America. What she doesn't know is that her daughters disappearance is linked to her stepson she hasn't seen in years - a man who was disinherited after his father's death and now harbours a dark desire for revenge.
We get a well-thought out and cleverly crafted plot. I also liked the author's writing style. There were so many things I was asking myself as I quickly read through this book, but the author has all the loose ends tied up by the end. Filled with lies, deceit, twists, the suspense grew throughout the book. This is a really good domestic thriller.
