The Fate of Black Hearts

Rate this book
He would die for her…again.

Dom died for her once when he was forced to make her forget him. The Mage Conclave also dampened his magic to the bare minimum. Furious, he vowed revenge. Yet, he understands it’s his responsibility to avoid triggering the prophesy that says his love will spark world-ending devastation.
Until something threatens her…

The gaps in Evie’s memory left her disoriented. As head of her lycan family she can’t be weak. Once she finds the being who cast the amnesia spell, she must eliminate him to reverse it. Now that a new threat hunts her, she needs her memories back to protect her family.

The dangerous, yet sexy mage who saves her life knows way too much about her. His touch might ignite a need she’s never known before—or maybe she did—but she will kill him to break the spell.

*This is the fourth in the Crown's Wolves series but can be read as a prequel or a sequel. It's a stand alone story that does have elements from the other books.

Review of The Fate of Black Hearts

Gosh! What a book! Though it's a first book that I have read by Zoe Forward and it's the last book in the series or kind of like a prequel but I was instantly hooked on it! The vibes are so mystical and mythical, yes!! The world-building is smooth and it's easy to follow.

It has narrative pov and she did a really amazing work with that! I like to read dual povs but the way she has written it is something that I have not come across often. Like the story-telling and then characters are so in sync.

The book follows present day scenario and past events going hand in hand. So a transition back and forth is really keeps you on edge.

The character development oof! Evie and Dom are meant for each other! Evie is feisty and Dom is head over heels for her. 😩 I don't want to spoil anything about this book! Just go on and read it!!

I really want extra time just to read the whole series! 👀✨

⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Adult Fiction, Romance and Fantasy

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book via theauthoragency. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is my honest review.

The concept for this book sounded good and I liked the idea I could read this as a standalone without having read the other books within the same universe.

Unfortunately I got lost very quickly and felt like I missed a lot of context. This book isn’t structured to be a standalone as there are a lot of gaps within the opening half. I ended up DNF’ing at 42%.

I want to say thank you for the ARC.

Note (How I rate): One is DNF. Two is got there but struggled. Three stars is a good, enjoyable read. Four is an excellent read and five is a comfort read that lingers with me for life. My five stars can be imperfect but to me they hit right.

This book had the bones to be amazing but did quite hit the mark for me. It is apart of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone. I think some of the gaps may have been filled in some of the previous but I had not read them yet. Although the timeline jumps around a bit you can still mostly figure out what’s going on. I loved that the main characters love story wasn’t disrupted because of one of them but it was the outside factors that were forcing them apart. It was a refreshing take to see the magical role be by Dom (MMC who was a mage) and the werewolf be Evie ( FMC who was a lycan). There were a few details that could have been added to alleviate some of the confusion but all in all I did like the book.

Thank you to the Author Agency and Zoe for the copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own💜💜

I don't even know where to begin.

You have Mages, Lycans, Demons, Deities, Leviathan, and Lucifer himself. What else you can throw in here...how about a great story.

Well she did it. This is my first book by Zoe Forward but will not be my last. Lucky for me this is considered a prequel for this series, as I am not hooked and can't wait to delve into the other stories.

Dom and Evie's story takes a lifetime to unfold, but is the true meaning of if it is supposed to be then it will. But damn Dom, really.

Captivating story

This was my first book from Zoe Forward, and I like it.

As I haven't read anything before in the series, I was stumbling on the first two pages, but then I was right in the story. It is full of suspense and slow burn. I liked this story so much that I couldn't stop reading for a minute because I was so involved and invested in Evies and Doms story.

I my humble opinion the story is well written, and even non native English readers will enjoy the story, even without reading the other books about Evie’s children before.

I felt the chemistry between Dom and Evie from the first moment, and I truly appreciate that they went through life and lessons to get together. It's so sweet that I hope we get a story about Lyra, but I think there's still a lot more to be told. Can't wait for more.

Conclusion:
It is an interesting and captivating story full of magic, Lycans, and suspense. And love.

*I received an ARC of this and in no way has that influenced my opinion of this book*

This review is purely based on this book alone. I have not read any of the others in the series however as the author notes this can be read as an independent story.
If I had to sum this story up in one sentence it would be; This is a story of love and yearning that stretches time itself, with many barriers to fight through.

Going into this, I was slightly apprehensive that I was going to be left with many questions about how something came to be or subplots that would leave me confused. However, the author did an excellent job of providing information while also keeping the story focused on the main characters.
There was a nice transition between present and the past. of how what was happing in the future was linked to the past and having the past play out gave context to the future without the reader finding it unnecessary or boring.

This is the first story I've read where there are many supernatural creatures, and I enjoyed it. This is a fast paced read. I had read Over 70% without having realized it and as a slow reader I was surprised. The ending did confuse me a bit.
this left me curious about the Lanzo brothers and the Crown. Unfortunately, the other books don't show up on my Amazon. However, this left me content to read this book as is.

Please Note:
This can be read as an independent story without reading its predecessors if you want to understand more of the significance the Lanzo brothers, the curse, the Crown of England, also Evie's kids, check out the other Crown's wolves' books.

This was an interesting one. You meet the MFC, Evie, in book one of this series. She’s a spitfire then as she is now. I appreciate that she’s an older woman with lived experience. She’s still a spitfire—hell, the book starts with her getting shot in the shoulder, and she’s still kicking ass. Evie is the matriarch of her lycan family (each child with their own set of issues), and she’s had an amnesia spell cast on her. Dom cast the spell on her, but it was to save her. But now there’s a threat to her, and she needs her memories back.

The romance between Evie and Dom was beautiful. It was everything I wanted it to be. They were great characters and had great chemistry. They were around the same age, and not the creepy “he’s hundreds of years old, and she just turned 22.” They have both lived a life, but a prophecy (and a spell) has kept them apart.

Although this book is advertised as a standalone, I recommend reading the other books in the series first. There are going to be names at you that you should already know. However, you’ll still be able to follow the story even if you don’t read the first three. There are time jumps, which can be confusing if you haven’t read any of the first three. There are—what feels like—info dumps so that you don’t feel lost.

Overall, it’s an interesting read, but I wouldn’t exactly qualify this as a true standalone. It would make an interesting prequel/sequel (there are time jumps), but I wouldn’t read this as a standalone, so that you could get the whole picture.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

He would die for her… again.

Fall in love and forget why you did it, only to discover the man who sacrificed everything for you is no longer someone you can trust. It’s a sexy, emotional rollercoaster Zoe Forward brings to readers in The Fate of Black Hearts, the fourth and standalone (yet delightfully entwined) installment in The Crown’s Wolves series.

Evie—head of her own lycan pack—is not herself. Memory gaps that could be her undoing, a threat that is on the rise, and her own power…waning. When a sexy, dangerous mage saves her life, all her instincts tell her to run, but her heart? It’s another matter. His touch reawakens forgotten emotions… and the potential for an apocalyptic prophecy.

Dom, the mage, is no stranger to sacrifice for her. He erased her memory to save her, but now his powers are controlled by the Mage Conclave. Angry, and feeling powerless, the fine line between revenge and love on the precipice of the apocalypse won’t be easy to navigate.

A paranormal suspense novel turned romance – lycan power meets mage treachery and danger in a tale of magic, memory, and destiny. Craving your romance to simmer in a sea of flashback mystery and slow-burning desire that can quite literally bring about the end of the world if you’re not careful? Then you’re in magical, emotional heaven.

Briefly – The Fate of Black Hearts is hot, will have you biting your nails, and leaves you swimming in magic. It is also a heart-pounding thriller that holds nothing back.

The Fate of The Black Hearts
The Crown's Wolves
By Zoe Forward

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶

🖤 Forbidden romance
🖤 Protector/guardian hero
🖤 Reluctant hero
🖤 Cursed/doomed by prophecy (him)
🖤 Touch her and trigger end of the world
🖤 Amnesia (forced) to save her
🖤 Paranormal romance

Okie doke, so I have not read the other books in this series, and while this does say it can be read as a stand-alone, I feel as though maybe it's best that you do read the others as parts can be quite confusing without the back story you would gain from the previous books.
That being said, this instalment of The Crown's Wolves sees Evie (the FMC) through the years doing whatever she can for her babies to break the curse that they were f0rced into, with a little help from a hidden mage Dom (the MMC) 😉.
There is a big prophecy Dom is trying to avoid from becoming reality, while he and Evie try to battle the high tension between them IYKYK 😉
And a gorgeous little girl that can save everyone and everything.

So all in all it was a good read, I would just definitely recommend reading the previous books beforehand.

The Fate Of Black Hearts releases August 5th 😘🖤

Star Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Scoville Spice Scale:🌶🌶🌶

I highly recommend that you read Crown Wolves 1-3 before reading this book.

The Fate Of Black Hearts gives us a prequel and final wrap up book in the Crown Wolves series as it focuses on the matron of the Lanzo family - Evie. The story traverses centuries of Evie's life as Dom/Domini Tavalin watches over her, intervening when he can, loving her passionately 🔥 🥵 when he can, and staying away when he feels he must.

"She was his, but not in an ownership way. She was his to treasure and shield."

He assists her sons in their assisnments (for more on that, read Crown Wolves #1-3). Both Evie and Dom are drawn to each other's orbits. They make strange bedmates because Lycans and Mages are natural enemies. Even more concerning is the prophecy made about an offspring of Dom's end the world. This has the tidy whiteys of the Mage Council in a bunch and the things they will put Dom through to make sure he doesn't father a child. Well, you will just have to read about that but my money is 100% on Lyra.

The worldbuilding, even though this is our world, there are layers built into our world. It expands our realm with hidden pockets for protection. Dom makes good use of these especially when he needs to hightail Evie out of a situation.

I give this book a very high recommendation. My preference would be to read the other 3 books first.

Thank you to Zoe Forward for this gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks for giving me the chance to read the eARC

Unique storyline for a fated mate shifter romance!!

Good
FMC is a mother: Finally, an FMC with three digits in age in a paranormal romance, with her own experiences and life. We always get hundreds of years old MMC with barely an adult as a love interest, but it's refreshing to get a pair with somewhat equal age.
Storyline: There are multiple time jumps between chapters, but the story is still cohesive and coherent to read, and it intrigues the reader.
One favourite side character: Out of all, the one character I would like to know more about is Eferm, FL's best friend and the boys' surrogate father. Every scene with him was fun or sometimes emotional to read. As a support, he was awesome and I would like to read his book as the main lead in future.

Bad:
Information dump: Although interesting, many times, rather than unfurling the plot point of the story as it goes, it feels like information is just given to us in bulk.
Emotionally reductive: Having so many familial connections by blood or bonds, it fails to make me feel for the character, tragic things happen, and we move on, surprise tropes are revealed in the end, but without any proper reaction shown by the MMC, it just falls flat.

All in all, good one-time read!

My first read from this author and its an intricate tale with everything but the kitchen sink! From mages to lycans, demons to deities and an ancient prophecy thrown in for good measure – you gotta love the threat of the end of the world especially when it’s triggered by the prospect of the hero and heroine getting it on and producing a child.

Dom was a mage who had fallen for the enemy when he fell in love with Evie, a lycan, but the mage council's harsh intervention forced him to erase her memories of him and just in case he was tempted to reverse things and, as a safeguard, they stripped him of most of his magic afterwards. However, the spell he cast had consequences – it left Evie weakened and, as head of her family, she couldn't afford to show any vulnerability. Determined to reverse the spell, she set out to track down the spell caster, intent on killing them. Her quest might be easier than she thought, as Dom appeared to have appointed himself her guardian angel, appearing to protect her from danger.

Their story unfolds slowly, meticulously building the suspense with a lot of detail, and it does conclude within this book. Although billed as a standalone, 'The Fate of Black Hearts' just didn't quite captivate me as much as I had hoped, and despite enjoying it I feel that if i’d read the earlier books in the series first I might’ve enjoyed Dom and Evie’s story more.

This one was a really intriguing story … The setting and premise are super unique: modern day rifles meet demons and dark deals? Yes please! 🔥 I need moreee!

Evie is such a badass FMC!!, I loved her attitude and presence right from the beginning.

Dom is mysterious in the best way 👀 Not gonna lie, there was one line from Dom that felt a little off (regarding human females), but I think I understand what the author was trying to say..

Now, the back and forth between past and present? I really enjoyed it… It added a bit more context to the plot ❤️‍🔥

This is book 4 in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. That said, I did feel like I was missing a bit of context from previous books 😫 especially when it came to the other character histories. But even so, it was still an enjoyable read!

I loved the twisty, heartfelt ending … super satisfying. 💖
Also? Evie’s family dynamics were a standout. Each sibling has such a strong, distinct role, and now I have to go back and read their stories too!

P.S. I’m officially intrigued by Dom’s brother… I need more!🥹

This was my first time reading anything by this author. This is the fourth book in a series, so I was a little lost in the beginning but once the story started catching momentum, I was hooked.

I really love witches and and werewolves (lycans here). So the combination was right up my alley. I liked the world building and the magic was interesting. I also liked that the FMC was the lycan and the MMC was the mage. It was cool to see the gender reversal. However, a lot of the time jumps made me confused (perhaps this is because I haven't read the previous books).

The romance feels epic which was what I was hoping for. Evie and Dom have chemistry right from the start but the amnesia spell and prophecy surrounding their love creates obstacles for them. I liked that the romance didn't have conflict within but more outside sources didn't want these two together. It made for an interesting romantic tale.

Overall, this was romantic and full of adventure. I would just say you may have an easier time with the book if you've read others in the series.

Here’s the truth,
I think if I had read prior books in The Crown’s Wolves series I believe I would have maybe enjoyed this book more. I was a bit confused coming into this book. I felt as though it threw me straight into the deep of it and it was hard to find my way to the surface.
Disregarding the rocky start I had, this book is amazing. The descriptive writing is incredible and keeps the reader engaged. There’s action in every chapter, mystery on each page, and spicy scenes that leave you wanting more.
The likes of mages and lycans and witches was a fantasy readers dream. Again, if I had read prior books, I believe the plot line would have been easier to navigate, but it still left me turning page after page needing to know what happened next. I was enraptured and I’m excited to dive deeper into these books and their characters.

I really liked this book. It was its own story, but tied in all the other books nicely while giving more substance to the background characters in the previous books. The connection between evie and dom was good and kept the story moving along and kept me wanting more of their story. Also the witches in this story…. Yes new book series pleeeeease 🤗

One thing I really enjoyed aside from how the characters interacted was the ability to really picture the rooms of Doms houses for example through their descriptions which made the book more rich in my opinion.

The end was suspenseful, cute and mischievous which made me think of another whole new book series possibility.

The book can be read as a stand-alone, after or before the other books and still be fully enjoyed. I can’t wait for more of this series and others!

My first book by this author and it was well written and complex. I felt like I was jumping into a story and had no idea what was going on with all these characters - which makes sense given it’s a spin off of her Crown’s Wolves series. As indicated in the forward, it could be read as a prequel or a series conclusion. Despite taking a little bit to get my bearings, Evie and Dom’s love story was captivating. This book has lots of action and adventure, it’s spicy, and there’s a lot of interesting gods and beings involved (Lycans/mages/witches/demons). It’s told in a dual timeline style as you go back through critical moments with Evie and Dom to solve the conflict in the present. Solid stand alone book.

Such a great storyline with amazing characters.
I love how you can see their growth through the story.
The Prophecy - Dom's love will spark world-ending devastation.
Evie is the head of her lycan family, so weakness is not an option. She has lost so many memories, and she needs/wants them back to protect her pack.
Can the mage help her or set her and the world on fire?

Thank you to Zoe Forward and The Author Agency for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

I really liked the way this book started out and was immediately drawn into the story. This book deals with not only lycans, but all kinds of supernatural beings. Dom and Evie have obvious tension from the beginning, and the way the author tells the story keeps you flipping pages wanting to find out what happened to them...

This book really delivers on the adventure, and it's also spicy! I felt like the romance aspect of this book was done well. Even though this is a part of another series, it can be read as a standalone, and I would be interested in reading the other books in this series.

I love reading fated mates stories and this one was quite an adventure the whole way through. The push and pull between characters always makes for an exciting tale of how they try to resist their feelings as danger surrounds them at every turn. Their relationship had me gasping, laughing, and crying at times.
I have read this author before but not the other books in this series, so while it was very enjoyable I wish I had known the history of some of the characters that show up from the other books. Would like to go back and start with book 1 since I enjoyed this one so much.
I give it a 5 star.

Overall I enjoyed Dom and Evie's story and the lycan family dynamic. The time jumps felt a bit choppy to me and I felt like the flow was off. This may be because I hadn't read any of the other stories in this series, so I'm not sure if some of the missing pieces were there. Either way, I'm thankful to have been given a chance to read this. Evie is a bad-ass witchy lycan that you do not want to mess with. I got a kick out of Lyra and her tea parties and thought the Epilogue was fun realizing it had been his brother watching out for him all along!

This book can be read as a prologue or an epilogue to the The Crowns Wolves series and functions as an incredible introduction or a fantastic bookend to the series and I, for one, am absolutely fascinated to go and read the rest of this series after having read this!

Dom and Evie's story is full of yearning and secrets. Spanning time and geography, their story is full of SO MUCH DRAMA. From their dramatic beginnings to the cataclysmic ending of the novel ... wow. It’s just full so much action and adventure.

Mages and Lycans and secret societies and assassins. The setup is full of action and adventure, but the heart of the story is in the family. AND OH, DID I MENTION THE YEARNING.

This was a great book to get lost in. I would like to order one Dom to pine for me for a hundred years or so, please.

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 rounded up!

On the premise I did feel like this book was overall well written. However, I did note that there were times and jumps throughout that could have been explained in a much clearer manner. Also, While this book is considered a standalone readers should read the other novels in the series prior. It will help with more insight and further understanding.

All that to say the FMC is bada*s!!!!
And the MMC is too but Evie she carries this story!

Mental health is a very sensitive subject so be mindful of the trigger warnings. But overall this was a fun quick read!

What a unique read! Vampires, witches, and lycans oh my! I had a hard time getting started with the book as there was a lot of information that didn't make sense. Maybe if I'd read the other books in the series first, it would have been helpful. However, as I continued reading, I realized that I really didn't need any back information. There was a lot of going back in time with was defined easily. Good romance!

Werewolves, witches, time jumping, and ATROPOS!!!

Let me tell you!! If you like a somewhat slow burn without out the extreme darkness this is for you. It was calm compared to my normal neighborhood of reads but I like dipping into everything! It’s got a good story so yes i recommend!

Now I met Atropos back in March and I really don’t like that fate lol. But other than that it was a good book!

Adventurous, romantic, suspenseful and action oriented. Evie and Dom's tumultuous relationship spans decades but more occurs when they are apart than when they are together. As both a prequel/sequel, it's not quite a stand-alone story but with a little patience and some common theme connections, the story is solid. I have not read anything else from this author, but I am more than willing to dive into the remainder of the series just to see how this story fits in with the larger world created.

Unattainable love… This is a story of unattainable love, magic, prophecy and more. Its full of steamy banter, intrigue, conundrums, and action. Dom and Evie have century long history, a love that can destroy them, the world and all they know. Dom and Evie story is unique, interesting, a little complex and slow burn. It’s a good story, I do wish I had read the prior books of Crown Wolves series to understand Lanzo family and Evie better.

I was not a fan of the back in forth with the timeline. I would have enjoyed the book more if it wasn't for that. This is just a preference of mine. Other than that the book was good. I would have liked to see more of the main characters together. They spent the majority of the book separated and doing their own thing. I also may have enjoyed the book more by reading the previous books. This was meant to be read as a prequel of a sequel.
