Nothing quite like a player's own take on their tennis career. Li Na's humour and personality was seen in on court interviews; comes through the pages too.

Some interesting parts about her early tennis training in China from when she was 8 years old. Good if you like tennis

The feelings I have towards tennis are very contradictory. It took fifteen years for me to learn to love the sport. But life is full of contradictions: I don't like flowers because their life is too short, but I really admire the beauty of plum blossoms in the winter.
Memoirs aren't really my thing, but in light of Li Na's recent (unsurprising but upsetting) retirement, this seemed necessary for my ~grieving process. She has a very interesting championship narrative, and is one of the most important players of this era (...IMO), and I still feel hollowed out at the idea of her absence next season.

I think this memoir was first published in Chinese, and then translated to English, and it shows, in a pleasant/familiar way. It's probably not the best written memoir, but a fair amount of it was personally relatable to me and I loved reading about her relationship with her husband/coach Jiang Shan, whom she's apparently known since she was 12.

This book was published on December 2013. For a more updated epilogue, you can go read her official retirement letter (which I recommend reading, regardless of your feelings for tennis or Li Na because it's so genuine and heartbreakingly inspiring; I lost it early on, when she described her knee brace as her tennis birthmark), best chased with a full-volume rewatch of the Australian Open 2014 women's singles' awards ceremony (which is still my happy place).

Like Na's autobiography

I had no idea Li Na has been under so much pressure. Like reading Agassi's Open was how I felt reading this book. Like Na talks often about how "they said negative things about her. I am a huge fan of tennis and of Li Na and I have never thought bad things about her. I also do not know anyone who thought poorly of her. I gave this book a 3/5 as I felt was too introspective with not enough detail of the tournament at the French Open that she won in 2011.

I really enjoyed this bio about Li Na. She tells her story in a very genuine way and gives insights into her life from a young girl living in China with their rules and ways of life. Her relationship with her now husband is remarkable and they seem to make a great team. She has had her injuries and setbacks but is to be admired as the first woman tennis player from China.

Very enjoyable reading learning about Li Na learning tennis as a youngster then joining the National team, and eventually going solo.

Interesting book about Li Na's tennis life. Not very detailed about the tennis tour, her family, or friends. It's a generalized emotional coming to terms of Li Na's tennis career.
