She had my baby. She never told me. Now she wants distance? Too late.
I let them talk me out of her. The family. The pressure. The future I was groomed for.
And I was stupid enough to believe walking away was the right thing— that she’d be safer without my name, my life, my chaos.
I never knew she was carrying my son. I never knew what I was losing.
Now I see her again… and I see him. His eyes. His smile. My blood.
And suddenly the last four years are a blur of rage, grief, and hunger I can’t control.
She wants boundaries. I want my family. And I will tear down this entire broken world before I let either of them slip through my fingers again.
I didn’t come back to visit. I came back to stay. She’s mine. He’s mine. And I don’t lose what’s mine twice.
Read on for second chance redemption, secret baby angst, ruthless billionaire obsession, found family, and a man hellbent on reclaiming the life he lost—no matter the cost. If you love possessive anti-heroes, sharp heroines, and broken hearts that still burn, this one’s for you. HEA guaranteed.
This was an okay read overall, but the repetition really dragged it down. There were too many filler words and several scenes, like the arguments with the parents, were brought up multiple times without adding anything new. That said, I think the writing could improve over time.
I did appreciate the relationship dynamic. No unnecessary drama or overused break-up tropes, which was refreshing.
Heir At First Sight by Vixa Vaughn is a beautiful, engaging, and funny second chance at love story. The MMC, Preston, and the MFC, Mary along with their little boy Jackson, whom Preston knows nothing about, are getting a second chance. There is interference from Preston's horrible, entitled, and greedy parents !! Check it out. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Well, I didn’t expect Mary & Preston story to have a 2nd book… don’t worry folks, it’s not a cliffhanger, the story just continues & I can’t wait for it 🙌🙌 That being said, that was a very good read and I enjoyed Mary and Preston . The way the table turned!! Can you see 🤣🤣🤣🤣 yup! Austin deserved his own story, I love that man ( just saying 😉) Really enjoyed it!!
SETTING: Contemporary New York City NY. TROPE: Secret baby. Second chance. CHARACTERS:
1. Mary Reese, female lead, is a financial officer at Whitley Enterprises and a single parent. 2. Preston Huntington, male lead, is runs the New York office of his family's prosperous international cdonglamarant, Huntington, Co. 3. Jackson is the four year old son that Mary has kept secreted from Preston. 4. Spencer and Miranda Huntington are Preston's parents and operatives of their Company. 5. Cecilia Whitmore is the daughter of Huntington friends and the one they want Preston to marry. 6. Zoe is Mary's nosey co-worker friend. 7. Austin Whitley Is the CEO of Whitley Enterprises, Mary's boss and rival of Spencer and Company. 8. Peterson is Preston's friend from Harvard and successful lawyer specializing in corporate crime.
The mechanics of the writing is fine; however, the author failed despite her exhaustive efforts to justify Mary's reasons for not letting Preston know he was a father. The Mary never apologized or acknowledged that withholding Jackson from Preston was wrong; instead , she blamed his parents and his love for them.
Mary worked for household of Preston's family. A family that considers themselves as part of the elite. He noticed her and began finding reason to be around her when she was working.
A relationship develops and his parents fins out and offered her money to leave their son alone. They also threatened to ruin her if she remianed in the city.
She leaves, but returns five years later with a 4 year old secret. She does her best to not be in the same space as Preston until she cant.
They reconnect and of course his parents do not like that. They pull out all the stops, however this time Preston is prepared.
Entitlement meets justice. David vs Goliath. Romeo and Juliet. I enjoyed this reunited and it feels so good (and terrifying and uncertain and swoony) tale of love found and lost and redeemed. Jackson sure is a cutie!
Whewwweee this book had me in my feelings! The drama that unfolded around Preston and Mary had me bent. Wait. Let me do this review justice.
Mary and Preston were once a loving couple that were torn apart by greed, racism, snobbery, and generational wealth. Fast forward 5 years later, Preston finds Mary along with finding out he has a son named Jackson. His love for Mary never waned or hers for him. Preston is determined to have Mary and Jackson back in his life. But sharks are killers that will attack anything when it smells blood.
When I tell you that this book had me in the edge of my power wheelchair... I'm not kidding. I loved and respected how fiercely determined Preston was when it came to protecting, defending, and loving his family. And Mary? Whew, that woman was a powerful mama bear when it came to Jackson. I'm also happy that she had some powerful people in her corner as well.
This book was such a wonderful read, I had to go back and buy it. Yes, it's that good. The character development, the storyline, the dialog, the secondary characters, and even the protagonists made this book I would definitely recommend. If you like a secret baby, second chance love story with lots of love, laughter, tears and some wicked drama added in then this is the book for you. I can't wait to read the next books in the Love and Heirs series by this author.
Even though it had been five years since Mary left New York, time could not erase or dim the love that Preston and Mary had for each other. Even when his parents tried to force a socialite of their choosing on him, there was no fire there. Nobody compared to Mary. He regretted every day he did not fight for them .
Mary was pushed out and threatened by his parents. She was of the wrong color, wrong social standing and poor. She was forced to do everything on her own with only the help her parents could give. It was time to recover her life and take care of Jackson on her own. Her return to New York was to establish her career. Preston ran into her by accident and that was all it took for the flames to reignite and for his parents to start a war against them. This time Preston was ready to do battle with is parents. He did what was necessary to protect his family. He'd already missed so much time with his son.
I just loved how Preston took his father and company down. He had all the goods on them. At least he did give them a warning to stay gone. With all of that turmoil they didn't ask to meet their grandson once. Oh well. Their loss.
Mary and Preston were forced apart by his controlling parents. They treat her horribly and he lets them. He thinks she just took off, but his parents ran her off. Mary ends up pregnant and doesn't tell him because she knows he wouldn't go against his parents at the time.
Five years later she has a new job in the same city she left him. They see each other at a gala, she slips up and says she's got a kid. He puts two and two together and starts showing up immediately.
Preston's parents try the same crap but he's finally standing up. He does so by ending relationships and being honest about his wants. His parents begin to make threats towards Mary and Jackson, so he fights back by destroying the family name and legacy.
Happy ending and cute dialogue throughout the whole book.
Preston grew up. He made a decision five years after finding out he had a son and reconnecting with the woman he loved, Mary, the mother of his child. He also for the first time in his adult life, made a choice solely for the people he loved ( Mary and Jackson, his son) without calculation or compromise.
When his father asked, “You would send your own parents to prison." His voice has lost its commanding edge, now barely above a whisper. He responded, “You would threaten the mother of my child. You would deny your grandson because his mother wasn't 'suitable.' You made your choices. These are the consequences."
Boy, were there consequences! Total dismantlement.
This book was very confusing to me from Jax being a blend of his parents, then pivoting to being the spitting image of his dad to Mary's casual relationship with a guy she worked with. This IMO was not a story of standing up but rather being vengeful. The story kept changing, and timelines kept changing. I felt like I was reading 3 different stories. It was like, oh, this needs more excitement. Let me add something even if it doesn't fit. Preston went from going with the flow to being a whistle blower. Weird. First time reading this author, and I am very hesitant about future reads.
the difference between revenge and redemption read..
The first book in the series is a heartfelt beginning, filled with themes of redemption and second chances. Preston, born into privilege, was raised to guard his family’s name and reputation. But happiness eludes him—until he meets Mary, a young woman working in his family’s home. She brings light and hope into his world, determined to fight for her own dreams despite the divide between their lives. Their connection sets them on a path that challenges family expectations, hidden truths. A moving story that promises even more in the series to come.
Unexpected love story. Not the typical plot I expected at all. Both the FMC and the MMC were young when they met but from different worlds. Their fun had a rambunctious outcome. Circumstances kept them apart along with secrets. Completely loved this. I wanted to give it a little less than 5 stars fue to a minor detail that annoyed me. There wwas a mix up with the work environment. In one scene she was working in a cube in another she was in an office with door. Not a big deal..
This story took me back to why I fell in love with romance story, because of a great story. I love the way Preston picks love of his woman & son over his family prestige. I really like that Mary didn’t let being a single mother stop her from going to College and achieving her dream and providing for her son. Myself I would have embraced being a grandparent instead of shooting it down like Preston parents, they became the losers in a big way. This was an awesome read..
I enjoyed Preston and Mary's story.I was a little worried at first because Preston didn't seem to have a backbone and I thought he was going to cave into marrying Cecelia. I'm glad he found Mary and woke up because Preston definitely grew a spine and become ruthless in regards to his parents ( yes, they deserved it all). I'm glad that Mary was strong also and handled herself well against Preston's mother the second time. Austin was a good guy as week as a good boss and friend to Mary and eventually Preston. I like how things ended with the book.
This was a sweet story. What I liked most is how it flowed with all the unnecessary fodder just for length. I will confess the spice was a little mild for my liking. I love a dirty talking alpha! Preston was neither but I still really liked him. "Different not lesser". There were also some continuity issues like did Mary have an office or a cubicle pretty basic and more annoying for me but didn't take from the story
Overall 3.5 for me, not what I'm used to but not enough to then me away from this author.
This was a cute story about second chances, but it needed an extra edit. When you write an event happens on a Friday, but then say it is a weekday, then have work the next day when you previously said that the characters favorite time with her son is weekends off, I was confused. Then ,Mary, out fmc, has a cubicle at work that morfs into an office with a door, then goes back to a cubicle, I am confused. A second set of eyes would pick up on this stuff. With that being said, it was still a good book.
Preston is a man who stands on business behind his family. Once he saw Mary and realize he had a kid, he knew that he would never let her go and make the same mistake He made five years ago. There was never a doubt for him when it came to standing behind his family and protecting his family. He meant it when he said he chose them and that they were his family, and he proved it through his actions and his words that he would do anything for them even if it meant destroying his own legacy that he spent years trying to get.
I started losing interest pretty early on but I was going to at least try to finish. I didn't really care for the MMC nor the FMC. She seemed weak and he seemed too wishy washy. Still I was powering through until I got to chapter 21. Seriously?? It just went from mildly irritating to completely ridiculous very quickly. So this is going on the DNF shelf for me.
Also, I feel the synopsis was misleading. I was expecting a take charge alpha type based on it but he was not that at all. Even when he found out about his kid, he was still more talk than action.
I enjoyed this story. i liked the likable characters and disliked the antagonists. Mary and Preston's situation was caused by choices made in fear. I was cheering for Preston in hopes that he would pull through. Jackson was adorable throughout the story. I also enjoyed the supporting characters and their support for Mary. I knew this would be an HEA and I enjoyed the journey.
Good read! Every page kept me going, will they or will they not! It kept me up at night. Easy read and kept me guessing! Money controls thepeop!e who has it! But those who do not find it after trust those who have it! Money makes the worst to come out, power and control destroy TBE good in most people! Preston proves them wrong, money does not make the people, love can control!
Awwwww! From papa-pleasing-pushover to kick@$$ father & protector
What a ride? It takes a while for them to meet and the fireworks to go off. But when they do, this guy grows a spine so quick! He starts kicking butt and taking names. The female lead character is likeable but her emotions and actions are all pretty tame throughout the book given all the crap she goes through. Good read.
Mary and Preston face an uphill battle when he learns that she had conceived a child unbeknownst to him. When his parents forced Mary out of his life he had no ide what she went through and when they reconnect the fire still burns bright between them. Will their reconnection bring them a second chance for happiness.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This second chance book was wonderful Mary and Preston’s love for each other was taken from them five years ago but not forgotten How they get to their second chance is what makes this book so special Get your copy and sit back and enjoy Another great job Vics I never tire of reading your stories
Preston's parents were straight trash and should be jailed. Side-eyeing Preston for working for his family's company with full knowledge of all the grimey shit that was being done. It was all cool until they threatened Mary and their son Jackson. Then suddenly he grew a pair of balls and found his moral compass.
For the most part, I enjoyed the story. It was nice story with a happy ending. The characters were great and I was very happy that Mary had an amazing and supportive boss. I don't usually like second chance romances but this story was just too intriguing to not read.
Love and Heirs book 1. Preston and Mary. This book gives you a bunch of feels. Love stolen, then denied and then found again. A secret child who steals the show and my heart every time. This book is extra angsty, hopeful, a whole lot of drama and smexy AF. A new author for me and I'm a fan.
I really enjoyed Mary and Preston’s story. A sweet story with family drama thrown in to complicate matters on the way to their happily ever after. Just a minor complaint with a reoccurring theme: blurring or swimming spreadsheets. You’ll see, lol.
This was a good read I truly did enjoy it there was some points where I had to put the book down cuz I feel like it was being dragged but other than that I actually did enjoy this book I will look for other books from this author
