Dexter can’t stand his new boss. Simon is the reason every one of Dexter’s friends has quit. He is desperately looking for another job, not realising Simon’s entire career depends on him staying.
One drunken night threatens to flip everything between them, but only one of them remembers it. When a blazing argument brings the tension roaring back, this time neither of them can deny it ever happened.
Dexter is juggling a mother battling addiction. Simon is dealing with an ex‑husband who keeps breaking into his home. Neither man has space for complications. Something casual is safer, easier, and absolutely all they can allow, especially as they both work in HR, where a relationship between boss and employee is even more forbidden.
But keeping their hands off each other is impossible. Keeping their feelings out of it is even harder. Just when they decide to risk everything to be together, tragedy strikes. Can the devastation bring them closer together, or will it be the final straw which stops them both from having a love they truly deserve?
4.5 stars rounded to 5 I quickly got engaged in this boss/employee complicated relationship between Simon and Dexter. Simon is the CPO (Chief People Officer/HR) of his company and is on probation since two of his three team leaders have quit in the last month, one definitely because of him and the other is implied. Obviously, he is angry about this, and his job depends on the third one not quitting, too. Turns out he’s thinking about it, too, and Simon isn’t sure what to do. Aside from the office pressures recently, Simon is also having problems with his ex, so is a bit on edge.
Dexter misses the other two members of the “Three Queerketeers”, and would like to quit and be able to join them but he can’t right now. He has his mom to take care of and isn’t able to be without a job at the moment. He thinks Simon is hot, but shares the same opinion about Simon as a boss as his friends do. Out with one of them on a Friday night, Dexter gets totally blitzed, runs into Simon, and basically attacks him to give him a bj. Simon is totally freaked out about the boss/subordinate thing, and Dexter knows he did something but has no clear memory of what or who. When Simon tries to refer to it on Monday, but without spelling it out, Dexter just nods while Simon thinks they’ve agreed not to say anything.
From this point, things start getting a bit crazy. Neither can forget the feelings from that night, Dexter even though he doesn’t realize who it was, and Simon feeling guilty but wanting more. Then both their lives start to fall apart in different ways. Dexter discovers a caring side to Simon he didn’t realize was there as he deals with his mother’s health issues, and Simon gets closer to Dexter as issues with his ex get really creepy. As time passes and they move from FWBs to caring for each other, each finds the support they need from the other to face the challenges as they come, and the work situation solves itself. A lasting, loving relationship comes for them on the other side.
There are cross-over characters from other books, apparently Simon didn’t come across well in one, while Jason and Gabriel didn’t come across well to me in this one. Jared, Simon’s ex, was pretty weird, would love more backstory on what caused him to flip out, and how did he get in the house (the big mystery I really wanted a solution for). This was a comedy of errors at times, but amazingly (😉🤔) communication made a big difference in perceptions and feelings — who would have thought? Anyway, the characters were realistic and relatable, and Simon and Dexter had me rooting for them to get together, the events also rang true to me, Dexter’s grief was honest, and Simon’s soft side made him a more likable character overall. I need to go back and read the other books that tie to some of the interesting side characters, there must be some good stories to share. My only complaint is that I had no knowledge of “the mile”, the financial district of London, so I didn’t get many of the references — hence the .5 star. The pacing of the book kept me engaged, as did the characters and events, so it was a good read for me. I like this author, he is one I watch for. If you haven’t tried any of his books, you might give one a try and see for yourself if he speaks to you or not. He does to me.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.
This is the third book in the sinful Knights series Dexter is working for a company that he really wants to leave all because of his boss Simon. his two best friends have already gone but that doesn’t mean that Dexter can’t find him extremely handsome and sexy. He wished he could stop having these feelings but he was having no joy. So one night when he was out with friends drinking he spotted Simon and honestly I think everybody’s had that night where you’ve had too much to drink and you say what’s on your mind? You have no filter and as much as Simon tried to be the bigger man Dexter proved to be very determined. Let’s just say Dexter followed Simon into the bathroom of the pub and something happened. That would change everything. Simon worked as the head of the HR department and he was finding the first few months tricky business. He had lost two members of the team and he had been told by his boss that if they lost the third, his probation wouldn’t be extended again it would be the end. So he’s desperate to keep his staff, some who haven’t taken to him, but Dexter is a tricky one. That evening in the bar Simon knows he should’ve stopped Dexter he knows it should never have happened so on Monday morning he asks Dexter to come in for a quick word and they agree to forget about what happened just get past it. But it doesn’t stop either of them wanting the other and the funny thing is that Dexter woke up Saturday morning with the worst hangover of his life and no memory of what he had done so he had no idea what Simon was talking about but didn’t want to look stupid just agreed. And that’s in the first couple of chapters. I’ve got to say I really took the Dexter. I just liked his personality. He is flirty and he goes after what he wants. Simon took a little bit to get used too but I’ve got to say I really liked him too. his ex-husband is a total psychopath let me just tell you didn’t like him at all. But that’s another story going on in this book behind the scenes the real story is Dexter and Simon and I just couldn’t put it down. This is a great read.. the passion these two share is explosive on times as well as tender you get that feeling that these two were just meant for one another. They have great friends too. There’s a lot going on in this Book. I just couldn’t put it down. I am super excited to read more from this author. I received a ARC from the author and this is me leaving my honest review.
This book was such an interesting mix of tension, emotion, and chemistry, and I ended up really enjoying seeing Simon and Dexter’s relationship unfold. It all starts with one drunken night that Simon can’t stop thinking about, even though Dexter doesn’t remember it at all, which already sets up this awkward, charged dynamic between them. Simon tries to keep things strictly professional, but the more time he spends around Dexter the harder that becomes, especially since Dexter is exactly his type and impossible to ignore. What I liked most though was how the story slowly reveals that Simon isn’t just the grumpy, arrogant boss everyone at work seems to think he is. A lot of that reputation comes from the situation with Jason that’s explored in another book, but here we get to see a much more vulnerable side of him. His personal life is messy and stressful, especially with an ex-husband who refuses to stay out of his life despite changed locks, cameras, and every attempt to create distance, and that situation adds a layer of tension and fear that makes Simon feel much more human. Dexter on the other hand is immediately easy to like. He’s warm, funny, hardworking, and dealing with a lot of pressure in his own life too, including a complicated home situation with a mother struggling with addiction. At first he thinks Simon is attractive but completely insufferable, and because of his loyalty to Jason he’s already halfway out the door when it comes to the job. But a few unexpected moments between them slowly start shifting everything. What begins as something secret and impulsive gradually grows into something deeper, and I really liked how their conversations start peeling back the layers of who they both are. They go from tension and frustration to understanding and support, and the relationship that develops between them feels genuine and emotionally grounded. Watching them move from that thin line between hate and attraction into something real was honestly one of the most satisfying parts of the story, and it made their connection feel earned rather than rushed. Overall it was a really engaging read with a good balance of emotional depth, tension, and romance, and it definitely made me appreciate Simon’s character in a way I hadn’t expected
Wow, this book was so good yet so painful because of how close to the author’s real life it was.
Losing a parent is never easy and the fact that Oliver still was able to write this beautiful book despite his grief, is nothing short of inspiring. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for him to do so and still give us such a compelling story.
Dexter and Simon had a very complicated relationship. Simon was Dexter’s boss and the two clashed over Dexter’s friend quitting the company.
Dexter saw Simon as a jerk and blamed him for his friend leaving, however, that didn’t stop him from noticing now hot Simon was. He ticked all of Dexter’s boxes and that was such a shame because the man was such a turd.
When one drunken night leads to the hottest encounter of Simon’s life, he tries to keep things professional. Problem is, Dexter doesn’t remember the night in question.
Simon can’t get Dexter out of his head, especially when the red head is exactly his type. Simon can’t help but admire Dexter’s fire and competency and will do anything to keep him working for the company.
When Dexter’s life is turned upside down, Simon finds himself giving Dexter the support he needs. He’s there for him without hesitation or Dexter having to ask.
What began as a drunken impulse, became something they didn’t know they needed. The kind of love that leaves you breathless and makes you believe everything is possible.
Simon didn’t exactly have the best track record when it came to love, given that his marriage ended in divorce and his ex was a psycho. But Dexter showed him that the love they shared was one based on equality and truth. Not one based on expensive things and empty words.
Dexter and Simon went from hating to loving each other in the most beautiful way. After all, there’s a very thin line between love and hate, and theirs was practically invisible.
This series keeps getting better and better with each book. Who knew the deadly sins could be such a guilty pleasure😏
Thank you Oliver for continuing to bring us the best of you. Thank you for moving forward despite the challenges.
4.5 stars I loved Simon and Dexter together! They have quite the journey to travel before they get to their love and HEA, but it's worth it! The beginning is a bit confusing as Simon is the boss that is apparently hated for some reason. This is mostly due to a situation with Jason, a former employee who quit, and is explained in that book rather than this one, but paints Simon as arrogant and grumpy. This book focuses on the side of Simon not seen before, the part of him that is awkward, vulnerable, and going through a lot in his personal life - an ex husband that cheated and has somehow managed to gain entry into Simon's home despite locks being changed more than once, as well as cameras and other security features, and is displaying violent tendencies and erratic behavior. Dexter is a fun and likeable character, he happens to think his boss is hot but arrogant, but due to being friends with Jason, he is looking for another job. He is also stressed because he's dealing with a mum that he is very close to that has serious issues due to addiction. After a couple of non work related situations, Simon and Dexter manage to find themselves having a lot of unwanted thoughts about one another. Deciding to have a sort of secret fling, neither is expecting anything other than that. But these encounters lead to some serious conversations that end up revealing who they really are, and as a result, a deeper connection builds between them - one that feels so good and genuine. Each man has external situations that arise that are causing drama and anxiety, but they are finding that together, they can get through anything, and they discover a love that is worth anything. The author does an amazing job showing the development of the deepening connection between Simon and Dexter, and manages to give them a perfectly wonderful HEA.
I received an ARC from the author, this review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
I fell in love with the Soho Knights when Perfect Night debuted, marking Oliver's first published novel. The five best friends/found family were wonderful, and I do love a book set in my home country. I'm never sure about redemption stories because they mean you've already met one of the characters and (rightly) loathed them and I'm one to absolutely hold a grudge! If you want to know about Simon's transgressions, you'll need to read Jason's book, Broken Promises (the last book of the Soho Knights series) but then, you really should read all five in the series. Each book features a different couple but there's a lot of overlap and backstories are established as the series continues. Trust me, it's worth it. Simon seems to be continuing in the same vein here but we quickly find out more about him and his life outside work. Divorced and his job now under threat, he's not in the best of places mentally. Dexter's two best work friends, Jason and Gabriel, have quit because of Simon so he doesn't have the best impression of his new boss and is actively seeking a new job. There's a lot going on for each man but they find time for each other, on the quiet. Can't keep their hands off each other and the sex is extremely hot. I did grow to like Simon and he treated Dexter extremely well, once he got over his 'accuse first, ask questions later' attitude. Dexter was a sweetheart and I loved him, even as I questioned his taste in men! Seeing Daniel and Josh (Forbidden Lust) was an added bonus, as were Jason and Gabriel too.
Simon is painted as the grumpy, arrogant boss everyone loves to hate—mostly because of the fallout with Jason, which is explored elsewhere. The author shows a side of Simon that’s vulnerable, awkward, and quietly heartbreaking. His personal life is in shambles: an ex‑husband who won’t stay gone despite changed locks and security cameras, escalating erratic behavior, and the constant fear that comes with it. Watching Simon navigate that emotional minefield adds a depth to his character that feels raw and real. Dexter is instantly likable—fun, warm, and trying his best while juggling a stressful home life with a mother struggling through addiction. He thinks his boss is hot but insufferable, and because of his loyalty to Jason, he’s already halfway out the door. Yet a few unexpected encounters shift everything between them. What starts as a secret fling neither man expects to last slowly becomes something meaningful, honest, and deeply tender. Their conversations feel intimate and revealing, the kind that peel back defenses and let two people truly see each other. Even as both men face external pressures—Simon’s dangerous ex, Dexter’s family struggles—their bond becomes a source of strength rather than complication. By the time they reach their HEA, it feels fully earned and wonderfully satisfying.
What a lovely story of two people finding the best in each other. Dexter who overthinks and over criticizes with Simon who doesn’t know how to mix his authority and his caring for his job and his people.
The super messy sparking of this romance always leaves me wondering with hunger how the main characters will move past the awkwardness and acting on their uncontrollable desire is my favourite.
The story follows a beautiful unfolding of personalities and lives where you see inside Dexters more complicated family life and managing his expectations of his friends with his feelings for his partner.
Simon being newly single after being married for many years also brings in an interesting layer to the story going from a person who had a set routine with their husband to navigating how to interact with his boyfriend (who’s not his boyfriend but is TOTALLY his boyfriend) while being in a HR nightmare of a relationship. Not to mention his ex being an unfriendly ghost sticking around.
I do wonder how Jarred kept sneaking into the house though… that might still haunt me.
Made me feel all the good feelings and even though the plot had lots of tension I never actually worried for the strength of Simon and Dexter’s relationship, which was a very pleasant surprise.

Loved the mix of everything in this book. From dislike of Simon (I'm not even sure why everyone disliked him - maybe it was a 'new broom' thing?) to lust on a night out to sadness to fear to everything else. I also really want to know how Simon's ex was getting into their former home, because that was quite creepy and disturbing. That is actually part of what makes Simon feel real and made me wonder why no one liked him. Then again, after Jared (the ex) I couldn't blame Simon for being a bit cautious, either. But Dexter doesn't like Simon either. He just finds him attractive. Even if Dexter blames him for his friends leaving and is trying to do the same, only that might have career type repercussions for Simon. Then they meet on a night out, and Dexter's tongue is slightly loosened, so they have an encounter. Then another. Then they become more, and there are a lot of issues for both of them to sort out - Jared being Simon's biggest one, while Dexter's is his mum, who is an addict. A really interesting and well woven story, I loved it.
This instalment of the Sinful Knights series is a delicious mix of tension, humour, and heart. Dexter and Simon’s relationship is a textbook example of “can’t live with them, can’t stay away from them,” with both men juggling messy personal lives while trying to maintain professionalism, a feat that’s hilariously impossible given the chemistry between them.
I loved how their attraction simmers and boils over in unexpected ways, making every interaction crackle with tension. Dexter’s bold, flirty personality contrasts perfectly with Simon’s more restrained, cautious nature, and watching them navigate their boundaries (and eventually give in) is utterly satisfying. The side plots, from family struggles to a rather terrifying ex-husband, add depth without overshadowing the central romance.
Overall, this is a steamy, witty, and emotionally engaging read that balances humour, drama, and passion beautifully. Such a great series I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review
I received an Arc for this book.. I truly enjoyed this book. Simon and Dexter are The most sweetest couple I have read. When I started reading this book I’m like oh boy here come the Broody arrogant boss how I was mistaken. Simon is the boss he’s not well liked by his peers including Dexter. As the story progressed I swooned for Simon. The way he showed his vulnerability was endearing. Dexter was giving him a hard time because his friends left the company. But…. They had a little meet up and Dexter could not remember. This is where I’ll stop lol spoiler free. Simon and Dexter are the sweetest couple together they are equals love each other unconditionally. This is a new to me Author and he truly wrote a beautiful and sweet story. Oliver Takely had me a bit teary eye on the dedication and I understood why as I read the book.
I love it when authors give you a different perspective on a character you weren't fond of in a different book. I did not like Simon in Jasons book, but damn did I love him quick in this one. I loved how their relationship developed from a place of animosity into love. Dexter was always a likable character, but I enjoyed seeing the motivations he had in his mother. I also really love that this book interconnects with others. I love this group of people so much, and I love adding more branches to this. I do feel for the ex-husband. He seemed to have some serious things to work, though. It could be interesting to get a redemption book for him and his new partner. Just a thought. All said I loved this one, especially since I got to see Jason again, and I love him.
I love the Sinful Knights series. Even if the deadly sin part might be always a bit less present than I first expected.
In this third installment we get an enemies to sometimes naked companions to lovers. Simon is Dexter’s boss and Dexter is not happy with him. Mainly because his work husbands both quit because of him. But this baggage seems to matter less and less the more they become more and more close.
It’s a perfect short-ish story well written and which despite the shortness doesn’t feel rushed. It’s a delight following the couples in this universe. So glad I can come along.
Spoiler and only complaint: I really want to know how he got in the house. I read about people living undiscovered in other peoples homes. Is that how this is? This will keep me up at night.

Professional Wrath is the third book in the Sinful Knights series. It´s a enemies to lovers romance.
At first, Simon and Dexter can't stand each other. There is a certain rivalry because Simon's team is falling apart, he is given another three months' probation while Dexter is looking for another job. If Dexter leaves the team, Simon will be out of work.
Until one night, Dexter is a little drunk and they meet in a public bathroom.
Both have problems in their personal lives, and I really liked this parallelism: Simon with his ex-husband and Dexter with his mother.
I really like this series. Characters from other books appear, which gives consistency to the whole universe created by the author.
High spice romance between 2 co-workers. Simon is the new boss that Dexter works for. They dislike each other at the beginning, but one night they run into each other in a bar. Dexter is drunk, they hook up in the bathroom, and things take off from there.
Simon has issues with his ex-husband who keeps showing up at his house even though they are divorced. Dexter has issues with his drug addicted mother. They have to figure out how to stay together when it's clearly a problem at work since one is the boss.
Quick read, interesting side characters (most are from other books in the series).
ARC review The first few pages was a bit hard to get pass, but something just changed and I loved the rest of the book. I haven't read any other book in this series so I didn't have any connection to the characters. Not a big deal, but I would love to know the whole conflict between Jason (from another book) and Simon. Of course this probably affects my view of Simon more positively and he is such a sweetheart. The relationship between Simon and Dexter is spicy and I love that they both have strong personalities and know what they want. This is very well written, the content is interesting and I love both MC's and the secondary characters. I really enjoyed reading this.
Simon is Dexter's boss but nobody likes him and 2 of his top 3 employees quit. On a chance meet with his third top employee, a drunken Dexter pushes a hook up on him and now he can't forget. So there's a repeat. And then another until they are a regular thing. Simon seems callous but he's not and his ex is trying to forget they are divorced. Dexter is caught between his friends dislike of Somin and his own feelings of over the moon. Lots of anger, angst and confusion here but the perfect pairing shines through. I received a copy of this and this is my voluntary opinion.
A workplace romance that shouldn't be with a love hate relationship no one sees coming. Could a drunk mistake turn everything around and be the best mistake of your life, only one way to find out...
Great addition to the series, Takely keeps adding and it just keeps getting better. Prior Soho boys popping up as well.
This book consumed my attention from the very first page until the last. I could not put this book down for even a second. I loved these characters so much and I did not want this book to end.
Book 3 in this series and it's Simon, and Dexter and turn they meet up after a drunken get together and it turns out that they are boss and employee and start up a secret relationship. I loved this book and am enjoying reading the series.
