There are lots of books about Jesus' resurrection - and most of them are answering the 'did it really happen?' question. Although that's a critical question, this new book from Rory Shiner goes further. "Raised Forever" is a book about what happened to Jesus, what will happen to us, and how those two things connect. As Rory says in his Introduction:
"Just as it is perfectly reasonable to expect a well-instructed Christian to be able to articulate what the cross achieved for us, I think it's also perfectly reasonable for a well-instructed Christian to be able to articulate what the resurrection of Jesus means for us. That's the purpose of this book.”
With his characteristic warmth, wit and wisdom, Rory Shiner delves into the Bible's teaching on this central yet often misunderstood topic, showing how Jesus' resurrection has a profound effect on our past, our present and our future.

This book is part of our Guidebooks for Life series. Like other titles in the series, it covers an important issue of the Christian life in an accessible and straightforward way.
I can’t say that we spend much time talking about the resurrection in the Christian tradition that I am a part of just now. This book was recommended to me by my son, Sam, and I am glad he did, because I would probably not have read it otherwise. I assumed that it would have little to say that I hadn’t already heard or thought about, having been a Christian for many years. However, I was wrong. There are many quite profound insights here and I was given much to think about. The resurrection of Jesus is absolutely central to our faith, and yet for many of us we are not sure why, apart from the fact that it shows Jesus was God, and it explains how a relationship with God is possible. But there is so much more to it than that, because the good news of Jesus is not just that he has been raised but that we too are raised to life. We are raised together with Christ, from death to life, and that is a profound thing to incorporate into our thinking. That is what this book is about. Read it.
Still a great book with many good things to say - but perhaps 10 years on the ideas have reached saturation point (which is a great thing!). I’d recommend for anyone looking for a digestible and engaging intro to the topic of resurrection.
Very good read, definitely brought many new ideas about the resurection that i hadn't thought about. The fact that it was colloquial as well allowed me to not get bored by it
“Raised Forever” is a well written practical book whose intent is to show the very real relevance of the resurrection of Christ & our future resurrection. The main practical part of the book is built around 1 Corinthians 15, & the certain hope we have of bodily resurrection as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, the firstfruits of the age to come. It addresses the foolishness of not believing in human bodily resurrection, the coming transformation, the question of the location of heaven, our fears & worries about what happens to those who die while still waiting for Jesus to return, & the nature of resurrection hope.
