Growing up in Indiana, I've heard stories about old sanatoriums, like Strident House. You wouldn't think that places surrounded by corn and cows would be so haunted. I really loved this story. It's mysterious and suspenseful and will have you reading it as fast as you can, and you will not want to put it down. The only time I stopped reading it was when my daughter needed me for something.

Kit and Brandon are twins. Their mother just suddenly died, she was in good health, but has been taking care of their older brother, Luke, who has cerebral palsy. Luke is currently in a wheelchair because he can't walk anymore, so that was causing strain on their mother also.

The twins fly back to Indiana for their mother's funeral and to attend to her estate and determine whether or not, Strident House, is a good fit for Luke. Or if Kit should take him back to Houston with her, so that she can take care of him.

Secrets about what had happened between Luke and their mother come out at the funeral and the twins witness strange things at Strident House, and other strange things happen to them while they are in town. Things that make Kit go and see Raven, a psychic that she knows.

Things take off from there. The meet the members of INOPS (the paranormal investigation team). The team finally gets the approval to officially investigate Strident House. And boy, things get crazy from there with Demons, a lost little girl, a tortured ex patient, and a horrible doctor. Reading the last scenes will have you sitting on the edge of your seat and biting your nails wondering if all of the team will make it out of Strident House alive or not. Will they be able to get rid of the entities that are haunting the old house, or will it all just be a waste of their time. There's also some unexpected love that is found on this adventure.

Another great read by the Matterns, that's for sure!! They have a way with the details that make you feel like you are there with the team.

My favourite aspect of this book is how the Mattern's bring the horror of dark entities and ghosts to life. This is done as well in Strident House as in any book I have read before.

Sometimes the characters do things so unexpected that they jar - like their complete, almost unquestioning, acceptance of the supernatural. Even Kit, who I imagine to be strong and logical, doesn't seem to mentally or emotionally fight against things that defy logic. I would have expected more resistance and it didn't seem entirely convincing that there was none.

That aside, it was a thoroughly enjoyable ghost story that I'd recommend on that strength alone.

I don’t want to give away or attempt to rewrite the story here. Some of the other reviews have excellent synopses. P. Mattern is so skillful-she painted the story in my imagination with her words. All of the scenes appeared so clearly to my inner vision – this book is absolutely the book that should be made into the movie we’ve been praying for every summer. Seriously-This. Is. It. The images that still haunt me from Strident House need to be on the big screen. I want to scream and grab somebody’s arm when Kit looks outside her shower. I want to find comfort in popcorn when Mattern describes demons. I want to blush in the dark at the steamy love scenes. Somebody! Make the movie–I’m already in the lobby and I want to be scared.

As always Patricia grabbed my attention from the very get go. I was very intrigued as to were she was going to go with this book. After the passing of their mother, the siblings are reunited for the funeral and deciding what the future has in store for their disabled older brother. During their trip home they witness unexplainable things at the Strident House. The twins meet with a paranormal investigation team and the reader is taken for an adventure from there. Many things are discovered at the strident house and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if everyone would make it out of the strident house.

P. Mattern has done it again! I loved the twists and turns of the plot in this book. Having worked in psychiatric hospitals in the past it really put me back into some of the things we would encounter with our patients. The characters were brilliantly written, I loved how Luke would be innocent and childlike one moment and the next he was a demon. I want to read more about Kit and Travis and Brandon and Tom.

CHILLING!!

Do you believe in ghosts and demons? You will after reading this story. P. Mattern and M. Mattern have created one of the most chilling tales I’ve ever read. It grabs you on the first page and doesn’t let go, ever! You begin to believe that you are part of all the action. The characters become your family, friends and neighbors. You feel as if you are right there with Kit and Bran, fighting all the ghosts, spirits, and demons as they try to protect their mentally handicapped brother. This story would make a fantastic movie or series, it’s just that good. If you like scary ghosts and goblins then you need to grab this book. Be sure to leave the lights on and doors locked. Not that it will stop them!!

This is the first book I have read from P. Mattern. I have to say, it will grab you from the start. The Strident House is very well written however I did have to put it down a couple of times.. Only because it had got so scary lol...
The characters showed so many emotions and some really tugged at my heart with Luke, then the descriptions of the Strident House and the way it was built just gave the story so much more history to go on. It had me reading with the lights on!

Are we sure we read the same book? Nothing scary here, folks. Literally, nothing. The last 1/4 if the book is ridiculous, completely unbelievable. I've been more creeped out reading Goosebumps to my kids.

Good read.

Decent haunting story. Good characters to root for, and genuinely scary moments. Strident House becomes it's own character in this tale. Fun haunted house romp.

Loved this book but thought the ending was a little rushed. The paranormal investigation team was a surprise I was not expecting. The head of Strident house was a very complex person with many layers. This book held my interest all the way through.

What do you do when you come face to face with evil. Do you turn and run or do you stay in fight . In the case of Strident house you stay and fight. Meet Kit and Brandon , who are heading back to Indianapolis to plan their mother's funeral and to take care of their mentally challenged brother Luke. They find out that Luke has been placed in Strident house a place that can take care of his needs . But things aren't all they seem there are evil things going on. Will they survive the dark energy and will the paranormal team come out it one piece.

This book has it all , romance . mystery and intrigue. I got swept away into the story, the characters are well developed and you start to feel for them as you read . The main characters Kit and Brandon are twins but also polar opposites of each other . Kit is a type A personality , she is an overachiever and is tightly wound lawyer who has to have the last word in everything . Brandon is more laid back and easy going . He calms Kit down actually and helps her out . The rest of the supporting cast of characters are very well developed and help Kit and Brandon out. When they go ghost hunting you see the whole team pull together really fast to help get rid of the evil .

I must admit that this is the first book I have read by these authors . I thoroughly enjoyed the way the authors sucked you into the story. The twists and turns kept me reading . I was so trying to figure out what was happening all the way through. There was just a couple of things that kept me from really loving the story . There were some parts that just kind of dragged a bit for me . I felt like it could of been a little bit more action . Over all I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it for anyone who likes a good paranormal mystery story . This would be a good book to read around the camp fire or at the beach . So check it out

Strident House begins with a back story from days gone by of a little girl playing with ghosts, and they convince her if she would do a certain act, she could play with them forever. This act takes place at Strident House.

The story continues in modern day times when a brother and sister are faced with handling the care of their special needs brother. Their mother dies suddenly, but the twins find out that she made arrangements for their brother to be in the care of Strident House. The brother and sister decide to investigate Strident House to make sure Luke will be well cared for. Before the investigation is over, they find their lives, as well as their brother's and new friends, are in grave danger. They discover the house's past is has found the energy to the present.

This is a page turner. The author does a great job in setting up the story and revealing the past horrors of Strident House. Mattern is very discriptive with her writing and keeps you on the edge of your seat with the constant horrors the house supplies once the investigations begin. Thete was so much going on, I did get a little confused, but the author winds everything up at the end with an explanation of all occurenced.

This is a well written book and I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys horror, deamons, ghosts and even a little love story in the mix.

What an absolutely mind opening story!
Ghosts, demonic entities, possession and paranormal activity from the beginning!

Kit and her twin brother Bran, have just received news of their mother's untimely death. Having to return home to Indiana to the body and settle their mom's affairs, the twins must also look into the placement and care of their incapacitated older brother Luke.

Before her death, their mom had set up and signed paperwork for Luke to be placed at Strident House. A local and state run facility for anyone needing hospice attention. What they encounter is a world not much is known about.

As they quickly discover, there is a paranormal world where spirits attach themselves to the living and objects around them quite frequently.

Some are demonic as witnessed by the twins and some Paranormal Investigator friends they make along the way.

This story takes you on a roller coaster journey that grabs your hand right away and doesn't end until you have completed the ride! Full of adventure, creepy beings and unnatural situations. Hang onto your seat as your journey begins!

This book Strident House has all the makings for a great Scary movie. I started reading this book and could not put it down. It had me looking over my shoulder though it was pretty chilling. It starts with twin brother and sister coming home for their mother's funeral and to decide what to do with their brother who can not take care of himself. This is a well written very suspenseful book. The brother is taken to strident house, but there are things there that are very scary and can not be explained. This is a must read if you like a good suspense and paranormal this is the book for you. This book keeps your attention throughout the whole book and you just want more. Need to read to find out if the twins and the paranormal group they have come across can find out who or what is haunting strident house and their brother and if it is really after one of the twins. Great book. I did receive this for free or at a discounted rate for my honest review which I have given.

Had Me Enthralled Until The End

Kit and Brandon find that their Mother has died and their mentally challenged brother was left in the home with her body for days. What they didn't know was that in her will their mother had made plans for their brother Luke's long term care. At Strident House. A local facility with an age old evil lurking inside. Because of his diminished capacities Luke was an easy target. But he was only a pawn in the game to get to the real target. Couldn't stop reading thus one. Author P Mattern spins an amazing tale that just might keep you up at night. Will definitely recommend to friends and fellow readers.

In 1827 Lydia Strident is convinced by two females only she can see to hang herself. Thus the story begins... It is present day and strident house is still around and definitely haunted. Twins Kit and Bran have just lost their mother and their brother Luke has been moved to Strident House because he has mental and physical issues. When paranormal activity around Luke gets out of hand investigators are brought in by Kit and Bran. That is when this book will hook you in and not let you go. Great read that is fascinating, mysterious and definitely haunting.

What they didn't expect was to be caught in a whirlwind of things they couldn't have imagined possible.

Pleasantly surprised.

I absolutely love this book. In the beginning if you aren't paying close enough attention you may not be aware of the underlying story. I love paranormal books and look forward to visiting the place Strident House is based on. Just when you think you can breathe BAM the story takes a new turn. I look forward to the next book in the series.
