Game On Boys! The Play Station Play-offs: A Hilarious adventure for children 9-12 with illustrations
Game on Boys" is a hilarious adventure story for boys and girls that will get you laughing hysterically until your guts explode. Just make sure your Mom doesn't have to clean it up and keep the dog away.
It follows the adventures of 10 year old cool gamer Ryan and his cool school, cool teacher and very uncool sister 'Loom Band Lisa' who does everything in her pink power to ruin his fun. It's all about boys that love computer games, pea shoot in class, catch flies in their mouth and make fart sounds under their arms. It's also about playing computer games at school.
When the teacher with the unfortunate name (Mr Higginbottom) introduces a Play Station competition at school, everyone goes into a crazy frenzy as they battle their way to win the prize. With Ryan's cool gaming record he's sure to win until something disastrously ugly happens to cause his plans of victory to come tumbling to the ground faster than super sonic radar doing a bungee jump with a triple somersault back flip on the way. SPLAT!
Will it all end badly, and will Ryan's reputation change from being the coolest gamer to the biggest loser wearing splatted egg on his face or can super dooper good things come out of really horrid bad things? With heaps of school yard humor and funny illustrations, this book is sure to get you away from your consoles for awhile.

Overall a good book for younger children to read. The put downs on the girls was okay and by the end it works out that girls are just as good as boys.

Read this with my son who is Dyslexic. It is a fun read with a lot of laugh out loud moments. It trashes girls quite a bit but then allows the main character an opportunity to overcome his idea that girls suck by the end (may not be a significant overcoming moment though). Perhaps if the character cannot understand girls, and the character has all kinds of harsh opinions of girls, the author should allow the girls to defend themselves from time to time to round out one sided opinions being served up to little boys. But, because it kept my son engaged and laughing, I give it high marks, but not the highest.

I know a lot of young boys and girls who are going to love this story. It's not just about video games, despite the title. It is about trying to fit in at school, your family problems and life in general. The author did a great job capturing what life is like for teenagers. I loved the teacher's at the school and the home life that was added in to the book, Fun and fast moving book that kids, young adults, and even adults are going to find fun reading.

This is the first book my son chose for our "Family Book Club". The story is pretty well done. I almost think the author is from the UK because of the use of words that we don't use in the US, but I'm familiar with from British pop culture. There is a lot of silliness, which I would totally expect out of a book about 9-12 year old boys.
My biggest hangup with this book is the name calling and put downs of so many other characters. Including the main character. He has nothing nice to say about anyone. His mom is "brainless", the girl in his class that doesn't choose a raffle ticket is "fat", he tells the reader that they will probably think he's a "retard", and his best friend is "so dumb sometimes". I normally don't get my panties in a bunch over things like this, but perhaps because this is directed towards 9-12 year old boys, I think it might go too far. I suppose though that now at our Book Club meeting we can talk about this and I can ask him how he feels about it. So there is some good that can come out of it.
As a woman that plays video games, even with my boys, I was disappointed that not one girl was portrayed as competition to him. My daughter plays as well, though not as fanatically as us. She didn't need to be a nemesis, but it would've made the story a lot better for me personally.
After our Book Club meeting I will add the feedback my son has for this story. I did check in with him last night and he said he thought it was really good. He's 2/3 of the way through it now.

Funny, but a quick read
I would recommend this for a person who wants a quick read and a good laugh. I can generally relate to this book, although a teacher bringing a PS3 to school is unlikely.

Fun, quick book. My boys loved the jokes and some of the funny parts. It had a good lesson of how somethings might not go how we planned, but they might end up being better than you thought. Plus it also taught about sharing your good fortune with others.

My 8 1/2 yo son loved this book. It fed his appetite for video games but also taught a good lesson that made a lot of sense to him. Great book.
