Ravenous

Maeve Nightengale had almost always lived in the small town of Tremont. There was nothing special about the place; it was just like any other small, Midwestern town, nestled between bigger cities and cornfields. Nothing groundbreaking happened there; not like when she was a young girl living across the country.
That is, until a raven showed up one day and began watching her every move. The sudden appearance of the bird derailed her life and everything she knew, though she didn't realize that's what was happening, until it was too late.
Bit by bit, Maeve peeled away secret after secret, causing her world to come crumbling down around her. Then came the arrival of a stranger in Tremont, who became the distraction she needed.
Or perhaps, he would become her downfall.

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.75 stars)
Ravenous is a paranormal, suspenseful romance where Maeve is stuck in an abusive relationship with Waylen, a manipulative cheater who gaslights her at every turn. Then Roman enters—a mysterious, possessive vampire with dark intentions and even darker desires. His behavior blurs the line between protection and obsession, yet somehow, Maeve begins to find comfort in his intensity.

And I have to say… I kept asking myself, why is Maeve still so emotionally tied to Waylen? After everything he did, I honestly didn’t care what happened to him—but Maeve did. Her concern for Waylen felt frustrating, but it also made sense: She was a victim of emotional abuse, which is heartbreakingly realistic for someone in her position.

Around 50–80% dragged on for me, and I do wish we had heard more about Roman's background—but things ramped up again around the 85% mark. And that ending? Did not see that coming. It ends on a cliffhanger that sets up book two perfectly.

There are still a lot of open questions, without giving too much away..—Waylen now? The curse? And The raven? Ravenous explores trauma bonding, supernatural characters, and the thin line between obsession and devotion. If you like your paranormal suspenseful reads, this one might sink its teeth into you.

Oh Maeve.. if it’s not one shitty man it’s another… sort of. You’re supposed to be safe in a small town right? Then why does Maeve continuously find herself in trouble? What makes her so different?

Emma Lynn is so clever in her writing, even the title of this book fit like a glove. Not only does the word encompass desire, need, and a hint of seduction; but I felt ravenous for more as I greedily read this book.

Not only was the plot a fun iteration of the vampire genre, but it also provided insight into the interpersonal workings of an abusive relationship. The way Emma explores the nuances of being a domestic violence survivor was such a kind service to a population that’s typically misunderstood. She not only did justice for people in abusive relationships, but did so in a way that wasn’t patronizing. In fact, she wasn’t afraid to artfully show her main characters desires despite her situation. Our main character Maeve was someone who was frustratingly relatable and well crafted. A multifaceted individual that showed how even intelligent, independent women can suffer at the hands of an abusive man. I applaud Emma for her portrayal of this dynamic.

Emma’s writing continues to advance and I have to say that her style keeps improving with each new novel. Her character development, banter, and plot had me glued to the pages. I am over the moon to find out that Ravenous will be part of a series, not only to read more of Emma’s work, but also: I NEED ANSWERS.

*I was lucky to receive an ARC and the following is an authentic review*

Joe Goldberg (from YOU) meets vampires

I love Darcy and Maeve’s friendship and seeing Maeve’s growth. 100% a page turner.

Memorable quotes:

“I’d been about to go to her and hadn’t even realized I’d been moving” (73).

“[…] no matter where we were in life, we’d always find our way back to each other” (194).

This book dealt with some yucky relationship trauma and emotional abuses with occasional physical abuse. That being said I enjoyed the story. I liked our mystery man and learning more and more about him as the story progressed. It was a unique take on a vampire story. I was utterly shocked by the way the book ended!! I was not ready for that but now I want the next book. I want to know more because I have so many questions for what our FMC is and why everyone wants her!

The tension throughout the book is palpable. I was so on edge from start to finish and couldn’t stop turning the pages. Maeve finds herself in a long term abusive relationship which she isn’t able to admit to herself.
When along comes Roman who is bad in all the right ways! 🥵 the absolute plot twists in the final chapters had me reeling and now we have to wait till next year to find out what in the world is Romans plan?!
I will not accept he means anything bad to come of Maeve (trying my best to keep spoiler free!) so greatful to be part of this ARC I will be counting down till the next release!

I loved Ravenous, and now I am too…for book two to be released.
She’s a small town girl in a stifling and cruel relationship. But there’s something different about her, and he’s noticed.

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and getting to know the characters. Our MMC Roman the morally grey vampire who gives absolute Labrador vibes when he’s with our FMC. Also the spice was 😘
That ending has me in a chokehold.
I honestly cannot wait to see how Emma Lynn continues their story in book 2 and how our FMC Maeve is going to develop.

**4 Ravens out of 5**
*Ravenous* by Emma Lynn Ellis
Release Date: August 5, 2025
Genre: Paranormal Romance / Romantic Suspense

It’s hard to write a spoiler-free review for a book that packs in this much tension, emotion, and mystery — but I’ll do my best!

In *Ravenous*, we meet Maeve Nightengale, a quiet, emotionally scarred woman (likely early 20s) who has experienced deep trauma from childhood. She’s living in her empty family home, working at a call center with her best friend, Darcy, and trying to maintain normalcy until a raven starts following her. Not metaphorically, an actual raven that seems to be watching her. Everyone else brushes it off, but Maeve knows something’s not right.

We’re quickly introduced to her boyfriend, Waylen, and it’s clear from the start that their relationship is deeply toxic. Gaslighting, emotional manipulation, and isolation are all present, handled with an unsettling realism. Maeve’s internal struggle with depression, low self-worth, and anxiety makes her journey especially powerful.

Then comes Roman, the mysterious new neighbor, helping care for his uncle and working two jobs (bartender and part-time hospital worker). He’s intense, a little obsessive, and very much the gothic love interest you expect in a paranormal romance. Their connection is immediate and all-consuming; readers who enjoy the “insta-love/obsession” trope will eat this up.

This is the first book in the Tremont series and it sets up the world beautifully. The pacing starts off a little slow but builds steadily, if you're tempted to quit early, I urge you to stick with it. It absolutely finds its rhythm. It is a quick, fun read that I read in less than 24 hours!

Content Warnings: Gaslighting, verbal/emotional abuse, toxic relationships, cheating, blood imagery (See book for full list)

Final Thoughts:
This book is eerie, heartfelt, and atmospheric. The romance may not be for everyone (it’s intense and fast developing), but the emotional stakes are high, and the mystery at the core is well worth unraveling. I’m very much looking forward to book two and hoping for healing, closure, and maybe even a darkly satisfying happily ever after.

3.5 ⭐️’s rounded up to 4

I too, pick books based on the covers. And boy was this a good pick with a beautiful cover. Thank you to the author Emma Lynn Ellis for sending me an ARC copy of Ravenous in exchange for an honest review.

So, my thoughts. My only gripe with this book was that too many things were jam packed in the very end. Now don’t get me wrong, the book was GOOD but having so many things at the end made me feel like the start was slow upon reflection. Again, don’t get me wrong I sped through this thing and did not feel like it was slow at all while reading it, but as I reflected to write this the start was slow in comparison with how fast the ending was.

I do wish we had gotten a little more world building in terms of the vampires and how their world is set up. I’m looking forward to learning more when the next book comes out. The cliffhanger at the end was so good and makes me sad that I have to wait so long for the next book.

In terms of Roman, he’s our classic shadow man with a “touch her and you die” attitude that I swoon for every time. I have a feeling we will see a redemption arc in the next book, I have to believe he’s planning something big based on the ending.

I really like how the author Emma Lynn Ellis tied in Maeve’s history in with her current events and look forward to these connections growing in the next book.

From the beautiful cover to the jaw dropping reveal at the end, this book will definitely keep you wanting more!

The cover is gorgeous and the title fits this book perfectly. This book consistently reminded me of The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. Where a raven frequently visited a lover in distraught.

Ravenous is filled with supernatural mystery and suspense as to what is going to happen next.

The first chapter or two starts out a little slow, but quickly piqued my interest, and not wanting to put this book down.

This story follows Maeve who is a young woman in an abusive relationship with Waylen. From the beginning of the story a crow starts following Maeve and cawing at her and later in the story it becomes more and more crows are following her. But why? And then one night Maeve bumps into a handsome mysterious guy in the street, Roman. Roman is a little creepy at first, but then the story really takes off and the mystery and supernatural comes in to play.

The ending definitely left me wanting to know what happens and I will be sitting here in distraught until I know how this story truly ends. I definitely did not see this coming. If you like the mystery of a cliff hanger at the end of a book, Emma definitely leaves you at the edge, wanting more!

This book definitely gets 5 stars as a fantastic read! Can't wait to read more!

I had the pleasure of reading Ravenous as an ARC reader, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity! As a mood reader, it took me a little while to dive in due to everything going on in my life—but once I started, I devoured it in just 5–6 hours. It completely pulled me in! Please check any triggers in the front of the book, as there is different types of abuse abuse in this book.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a small-town paranormal romance, and this one delivered in all the best ways. There were plenty of twists and turns—some I saw coming, especially with Roman, and others caught me completely off guard. That cliffhanger? Absolutely wild! I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say I really hope it was all a big misunderstanding, and that there was no other choice in the matter. You’ll have to read it to find out what I mean!

I loved Maeve’s banter with Roman—her sass and refusal to put up with his nonsense made for such fun, engaging chemistry. I was a little surprised she stayed as long as she did with her abusive ex, but the book did a great job showing how difficult those situations can be to escape. I will say the ex definitely got what was coming to him but you definitely will not suspect what happened to him or you might.

“I’d paid for her meal, thinking about all those times that you had made her pay for his.”

Personally, this book wasn’t really my cup of tea. I did however like the writing style.

To be fair, Ravenous did start off strong. Maeve is such a sweet and kind soul, who has such a tragic past and a raven following her 24/7. Roman is a handsome and strong stalker, who protects her. Everything was going groovy until I the end. It felt so rushed and unfulfilling.

I could not for the life of me understand why a beautiful soul would be with such a horrible person like, Waylen. He is the worst of worst ! He’s not only manipulative, emotionally & physically abusive, but he’s also a lying conniving cheater . Absolutely hated Waylen !!

p.s
Darcy was my favorite character. She’s such a girl’s girl !! She loves Maeve like a sister and always looked out for her.

“If we got to choose our soulmates, I would choose Darcy. She was my best friend, my everything. She was always there to have my back and support me. I loved her more than I’d ever loved anyone in the most genuine way a person could love another.”

This is an ARC review. Thank you so much!

Can there be too many tall, dark, handsome, tattooed men? No I think not. Especially the ones who would hurt anyone who hurt you, stalk you just to know that you’re alright and come to you in a blink of an eye when you’re in danger.

I would have liked to have specific descriptions of the characters earlier in the book and just more basic information, but everything came together beautifully. I enjoyed finding everything out through the FMC even though some reveals were predictable. And while I was so frustrated at the beginning of the book that the FMC always went back to the abusive relationship, I applaud her for seeing what it really was and getting out!

I adore Darcy. I love how she is straightforward and tells it like it is but is still being supportive. Even throughout the abusive relationship she had to witness, she was always there by her side while knowing she couldn’t do much more than that and I love to see that.

Now let’s talk about the ending.. what was that?! Talk about a cliffhanger!
This was such a quick read and it drew me in from the start and I can’t wait to see what book 2 brings🖤

I really liked this book. It was well written and definitely one of the fastest reads I’ve had in a long time.

Right from the start, with Maeve’s childhood trauma and the strange raven that keeps appearing, I was intrigued. There’s this slow-building tension that just gets under your skin.

Waylen, the boyfriend... I hated him. He’s controlling, manipulative, doesn’t support her, and then tries to twist everything to make her doubt herself. I honestly wanted to scream. The way he treated her made my blood boil.

Roman shows up and gives off weird vibes at first, but there was something about him I liked. Especially how he actually listens to Maeve and treats her with care. (still not sure what to think about the night stuff in the beginning though…).

Darcy is a total gem. She’s the kind of best friend everyone deserves. Loyal, honest, and always there for Maeve. I loved every scene with her in it.

The story just kept getting darker and stranger in the best way. Things slowly unravel, and the more Maeve discovers, the more questions I had. By the end, I was completely hooked. I have to read the next book because that cliffhanger?? Wild.

Arc reader review:

This was a really good read. It took me longer to get through just because life is lifing right now, but it was great escape from reality. The flow of the book was really good, but I do feel that the ending was a bit rushed, and I’m left with a lot of unanswered questions. I wanted to know more about Roman and the history of the vampires, but maybe that’s meant to happen in book two given the way this one ended.

Now about the characters:
Maeve has dealt with a lot of trauma starting in childhood leading to her horrible luck with men. What happened in her childhood really became clear closer to the ending.

Waylon is a POS. I absolutely hated him. He is controlling and narcissistic. He reminds me so much of someone I know. He honestly deserved more than what he got.

Roman was mysterious to say the least. I loved him, but he has a past that I want to know more about. I wish we would have gotten to know him more and I’m really hoping we get to find out more in book two.

Darcy is the best friend anyone would want. She is just perfect!

The ending though?!?! Umm what the heck just happened? Cliff hanger much? Now I have to wait to get answers.

My obsession for vampires has been brought back to life from when I used to be obsessed with everything vampire years ago (think buffy the vampire slayer, true blood, twilight). I will never get enough of a sexy morally grey vampire.

What makes this book different though from the TV shows and books I used to read is that it realistically deals with what it’s like for the person being in an abusive relationship. Maeve is the main character who is dating someone who is abusive to her. Her best friend Darcy is there for her and supports Maeve but does not understand why she stays with him. It delicately deals with what it is actually like for the person in the abusive relationship.

Now with the morally grey Roman entering the picture, it makes you wonder, well this seems wrong but oh it feels so right!! If you are going to be stalked it might as well be by a hunky vampire. The story unfolds really nicely with the sexual tension, and the mysterious ravens.

While there is a serious subject in this book, it is still sexy, mysterious, and fun. I ravenously devoured it in two days, I think Roman would be proud!

Thank you Emma for the Arc!

An Intriguing Start to a Promising Series

I really enjoyed this book! Ravenous starts off in a quiet Midwestern town, but it quickly builds into something much more layered and mysterious. The pacing is strong, and the story kept me engaged from start to finish.

I’ll admit, there were moments when I found myself frustrated with the main character, Maeve—but as the story progressed, I began to understand the deeper reasons behind her actions. Without giving too much away, her emotional arc makes a lot more sense by the end, and I appreciated how her layers were slowly revealed.

Since this is book one in a series, there were a few moments where I wished for more character development—especially with Roman, the mysterious stranger—but I suspect book two will dive more deeply into his backstory. The final chapters definitely raise the stakes, and that cliffhanger left me wanting the sequel immediately.

Overall, this is a compelling start to what feels like it will be a dark, twisty series full of secrets, slow-burn tension, and surprises. I’m excited to see what happens next!

Let me just say that this book sunk its fangs into me!!! If you’re into small town vibes, creepy romantic tension, and possessive vampire love interests with a dark side, you’ll probably devour this like I did.

The story follows Maeve, a woman stuck in a toxic relationship with her boyfriend Waylen (ugh, the worst). She lives a pretty mundane life a call center job, cozy friendship with her bestie Darcy until things take a paranormal turn when she catches the attention of Roman, a vampire who’s been… um… watching her.

If that sounds creepy it is, but also kind of hot? The stalker/vampire dynamic somehow works, especially as Roman starts to show a sweet/ protective side. Maeve’s slow realization that she deserves so much better than Waylen is super satisfying, & the chemistry with Roman? Tense, dangerous, &🔥.

There is a cliffhanger at the end, so prepare to scream into the void with me.

I absolutely can NOT wait for Tremont book 2!!!!

ARC review here!!

I actually think this may be another series to emotionally wreck me!

If shadow daddies and vampires are your thing this is going to be right up your alley! The writing is phenomenal, the story is great the characters (and familiars)are to die for! Literally!

Maeve is our FMC who has had a bit of a traumatic childhood experience, the best friend a girl could ever want and all the 🚩🚩🚩🚩 out of a relationship with Waylen you can get until our MMC Roman hits the pages in the middle of the street one night!!!

Yes there are spoilers so for your sake just go read the book it’s phenomenal!

“Ravens meant death, and all I could determine was that my own death must have been imminent.”

“If you want me to stop, Maeve, just say the word.” He dropped to his knees before me a second later, my heart skittering at the sight of him kneeling before me. His hands gripped my thighs, nudging them to either side as he began to lower his head between them. “What are you doing?” I gasped, concerned. Not concerned enough to stop him, though. “Biting you somewhere no one has a chance of seeing,” he stated, simply, as his lips grazed the inside of my knee.” — Ravenous Emma Lynn Ellis

I REALLY enjoyed this book. It was slow in the beginning but never boring. I jumped right into the book not knowing anything about it. It made the book better since most of the book I was wondering where this was going. I need the second book. This book made me laugh too which is something that I need my books to have. Roman sounds very dreamy which is also a plus 🤤

This book was slightly similar to Twilight and Vampire Diaries. Though this book is not so similar I didn’t want to read it. I would say it leans more toward Vampire Diaries which I would prefer-due to the humor Vampire Diaries has.

There is a plot twist at the end which I have a hate-love relationship with….but I would have picked up book 2 if it were done.

Huge thank you to Emma for providing me with an advanced copy of Ravenous! As always, my opinions are my own. ☺️

“Being mauled against my will should have filled me with fear and rage, so why did I almost wish he’d do it again?”

Maeve has lived a life full of anxiety and dread after coming to close to deaths door the first time.. but when a raven appears everywhere she goes, will she understand the signs or will she visit deaths doorstep once more?
—————————————————————————
I’ve never been a huge fan of romantic suspense, but I actually enjoyed reading Ravenous! Getting to read about Maeve being treated well and with kindness after leaving her manipulative, gaslighting ex-boyfriend was the highlight of this book for me, and by a heavily tattooed, dark and mysterious man no less! 🤭 This book definitely knows how to keep you hooked, and that ending?! Yup definitely going to need to find out what happens next!!

I received an ARC of the book Ravenous by Emma Lynn Ellis. This is a new author for me but she had me at Vampire! Ravenous is an urban fantasy, paranormal romance. Our FMC Maeve has been through a lot and continues to do so! Her character is so relatable in the way she deals with her current relationship at the beginning of the book. I felt myself chastising her for putting up with and finding excuses for the way she was being treated but also realized we’ve all been there haven’t we? The emotions, the fear of rejection, the gaslighting was all so real and raw. The introduction of Roman was delicious! We know he’s going to be bad for us but who cares! lol He’s charming, dark, protective and I mean buy a girl a book and he’s got to be the one right? I loved the story, the pacing was just right, the spice was spicing and the ending was chef’s kiss! Can’t wait for the next book!

Maeva is in an abusive relationship with Waylen. Her best friend Darcy is trying to talk sense into her about leaving his sorry ass. The new guy in town Roman, keeps popping up in all the places Maeve is. Maeve finds out Waylen cheated again, breaks up with him, and they fight. She falls down the stairs and Roman is there to swoop in and scoop hers up and takes her to the hospital. After that night they become somewhat inseparable.

This book was amazing! I cannot wait for book 2!

The part of the book that I did not like was the cliffhanger at the end! I was flying through the chapter reading of all the revelations, to fall so fast on my face at the bottom of that mountain! How could you do this to us Emma???

This book was given to me as ARC read and my opinions and thoughts are my own.

I am so lucky to be able to read this arc. I loved it. I was unsure what I was going to be reading since it's a new author for me, but I loved the mystery. I was hooked and didn't want to put it down. The leading woman was very down to earth and so strong. Considering what she was dealing with. Her whole world was changing, and it seemed to be getting better for her after a failed relationship from hell ended. I also enjoyed getting to know the leading man. He was dark and mysterious and unlike anyone she's ever met. I loved their chemistry. And talk about a cliffhanger. I can not wait for book two. Truly, this might be one of the best books I've read this year, definitely top 5. I highly recommend you read this asap. You won't regret it.

Ravenous was a thrilling, well-paced read that kept me turning the pages from start to finish. The story pulled me in quickly, and I loved the tension and energy woven throughout. The writing flowed smoothly, and the pacing felt just right—never dragging, never rushed.

While I really enjoyed the story, I did find myself wanting to dive deeper into the male main character. He was intriguing, and I kept hoping for more insight into his thoughts and background. Hopefully, we’ll get to know him more in the next installment.

The ending leaves you on a major cliffhanger, and I’m definitely hooked—I can’t wait to see where the story goes next! If you're looking for a captivating read with strong momentum and a story that leaves you wanting more, Ravenous is worth picking up.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I just have to say this, I’m still mad about that cliffhanger. 😂 This was such a good, quick read though! If you enjoyed the TV series You, then the vibes of this book might be right up your alley. The paranormal finds Maeve, who is stuck in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend. I simultaneously wanted to hug Maeve and punch Weylan. Enter the dark, handsome, tattooed stranger who is drawn to Maeve… don’t even get me started on him! 👀 There’s a fun little plot twist that I didn’t see coming, and aside from being a victim to that cliffhanger, I really enjoyed this book and read it in one morning. I’m looking forward to the next one!

Ravenous by Emma Lynn Ellis is an intense, atmospheric urban fantasy with small-town secrets, vampires, and a deliciously possessive MMC who gives major “touch her and die” energy. If you love a slow-burn romance with a darker, obsessive edge, this one delivers.

There are serious stalker vibes, but in that addictive, can’t-look-away kind of way. The romance is a simmer, not a sprint—but the payoff is worth it. The worldbuilding is vivid, and the plot kept me engaged the whole way through.

Also… did I mention vampires? 🩸

If you’re into paranormal romance with spice, danger, and a broody hero who will literally ruin anyone who looks at her wrong this is the book for you.
