This is probably one of the oldest books on orientalist painters. 5 years before Thornton, 2 years before Verrier. It could be credited with reintroducing the topic to the modern reader. And this is the only good thing about the book. In contrast to these two later books, almost all images here are BW and also or rather poor quality. Given the recent excellent books on the subject, the narration looks shallow and outdated (maybe, it is just a poor translation from French?)
