Two locked rooms, two dead brothers, one hell of a mystery for Liam Quinn...
Quinn is up to his neck in homicides, each more puzzling than the last. There's a billionaire footing the bill as his heirs are sent packing; Quinn has popped the big question, but might not survive to make it to the altar; and a line of fans seem to be gunning for Philly's favorite insurance investigator. Will they catch up? Not as long as Quinn Slips the Noose.
For lovers of Robert B. Parker, John D. MacDonald and Sue Grafton, this private eye series offers a steady stream of action and adventure, humor and even some romance.
Q - Why do readers relate to Quinn? He's an ex-con.
A - He's a guy who made a mistake, and no one is harder on Liam than Liam, I think -- at least in the first few books. And he's got a big, troublesome extended family. I was trying to capture that feeling we've all had at some point around the dinner table or at a family event, when you know you really love them but boy, what you wouldn't give to say what you're really thinking!
Q - For a guy who fights so much, he's kind of a big softy! Was that deliberate?
A - He developed as a character based on a backstory and a family history that I had pretty firmly in mind; but by having once been a champion boxer, it gave me a chance to let him handle disputes without using a gun, a definite necessity for an ex-con. I like to think he's his parents' son.
Q - Do I need to read them in order?
A -It helps. It's not necessary, as every book is a self-contained mystery (or three); but the backstory of his family and the progression of his life in Philadelphia makes a lot more sense in chronological 1. Quinn Checks In 2. Quinn Gets His Kicks 3. Quinn Goes West 4. Quinn and the Vanishing Bride 5. Quinn Gets the Blues 6. Quinn and the Dead Man's Daughter 7. Quinn Slips the noose 8. Quinn Goes to Jail 9. Quinn Gets Hitched 10 Quinn Plays Ball -- COMING SOON!
Q - So why should I try them?
A - Because you're looking for a fun read, with lots of action and a mystery to test your sleuthing. If you like books by Gregory McDonald, Janet Evanovich or Stuart Woods, you'll enjoy Quinn.
Quinn Checks in is the first gripping suspense thriller in the Liam Quinn PI mysteries, a new series of private detective novels from the Canadian master of mystery, thrillers and suspense, LH Thomson. The Quinn books take Liam from Center City, Philadelphia to the west coast, Florida and into the dark heart of urban crime -- but not without Liam keeping his sense of humor intact.
You'll typically find the Quinn books - Hard-boiled mysteries - Crime Thrillers - Private Investigator Series - Private Detective Novels - Thrillers and Mysteries Best Sellers - International Mystery & Crime
Another will written murder mystery adventure romantic family relationship novel by Ian Loome(Liam Quinn Mysteries Series book seven). Excellent mystery...kept me figuring things out until the end!
I enjoy this series a lot. I like the backstory, the quirks of Quinn and his family and Nora. The only thing keeping this one from 5 stars was the character name change in the same book! Freddie became Terry and it was an important character to the story. Easily caught by an editor. The editing is an issue with these books but becoming more minor and I still enjoy reading these. I'd recommend this series, just work on editing!
I read the Quinn novels because they are solid, decent mysteries with a decent main character and good supporting cast. You've gotta love the Quinn family and Sunday dinners.
SLIPS THE NOOSE, however, is far above the first six. It is an excellent closed door mystery with a satisfying ending. Quinn even makes fun of his being constantly beaten up. It is a good solid mystery with humor. Although it can stand alone, its forbears are worth reading before to know the lay of the land and Liam Quinn
The seventh book in author L.H. Thomson's Liam Quinn Insurance Investigator series, "Quinn Slips The Noose", is a very nice rebound from the previous couple in series that for me came off very flat. In this outing Quinn has regained some of his liveliness as a smart ass, and his financee Nora's character really shines through helping keep Quinn somewhat sane. The super wealthy Robert Rosenborg, father of five sons, and one daughter present Quinn with an almost impossible mystery to solve. Rosenborg's second son, Mitch was found dead in Florida from an apparent suicide inside of a totally locked room, and suicide note pinned on his hanging body. Rosenborg insists there is foul play a foot and hires Quinn to investigate his son's death at $1K a day plus expenses. Rosenborg had received a cryptic E mail anonymously telling him his son would commit suicide just before it actually happened. Soon Rosenborg receives a second E mail telling him another son will commit suicide as well. It seems almost crazy when very soon after warning son Stefan does apparently commit suicide. When oldest son Lars commits suicide after another cryptic E mail, this case is in total confusion. Quinn is stumped. The police have no idea which way to go either. The case really falls apart when Quinn gets a mysterious E mail predicting his brother Davy would soon die quickly. Incredibly yes, Davy is cut down by an assassin's bullet to the back of his head as Quinn is receiving this horrible message. I'd have to say for myself, I was pretty confused to how author L.H. Thomson was going to solve out the crimes and wrap up the cases. Quinn and Nora are stunning characters as they gush together with such serious emotions throughout this book. I think this was by far the best of the seven Quinn books to date. The story moved at a NASCAR pace, with highly strung characters who built this story into a solid mystery thriller. Why are Rosenborg's sons committing suicide ? What'll become of Davy ? Will he live ? Can he live after taking a bullet to the back of his head ? All excellent questions to ponder as reading along in the book. I had an absolute blast reading, "Quinn Slips The Noose",. Without question,a superior five stars out of a possible five stars, for this extremely enjoyable read. Quinn is really a very good mystery thriller series to pick up on. Set in Philadelphia, complete with all of Philly's quirks, and idiosyncrasies, that make this a blast to read having lived in the area all my life. I'd highly recommend this series for those who enjoy a gritty, sometimes funny, sometimes confusing, and always enjoyable read. Don't miss out !
This is another wonderful story of our favorite ex-con Liam Quinn, who is working as a private investigator for an insurance company and any friends who need help. Quinn is a good guy at heart who tries to right any wrong done against any person. He just can not stand to see people hurt or put in a bad situation by any low life. This is the reason he is followed and loved by many readers,he is just a guy with a second chance following a mistake. The other characters are great, his fiancee, friends and family keep us involved, as we hurry along to see if Quinn can solve the problem. I keep reading this series because I enjoy it give it a try, you may too!
