It’s pretty obvious if you think about it that it wasn’t a magical girdle that Aphrodite had. It was a pair of magic shoes. So where are those shoes now? Making the rounds with mortal women! Grace Gallagher would be the first to say she’s nothing special. Short, on the plump side, with a failing bookstore, she is the black sheep of her large family. More than anything she wants to live her own life, have an adventure, maybe even a little romance like in those books she hides from her parents. Then a strangely handsome man drops off a package at the shop, addressed to her. Inside are a pair of shoes.
*Potential spoiler An OK sweet and to the point short story (btw I knew going in this was a short story). I think it could of been a little more fleshed out so it didn't seem so rushed. And what about the shoes?? That was the whole center point of the story! I've read (and highly enjoyed) two other series by this author but didn't feel this one was up to her usual writing skills. Also, could use another look through for errors. Overall a decent read for some quick, light reading.
It was cute. Suffered from some editorial flaws, but not horrendously so. Likely would have given 4 stars except that at about the 3/4 point, it just seemed to be dragging; I just needed to get to the end game.
A very interesting take on the Cinderella story mixing in a different form of magic and the duality of love. It is unusual and whilst slow at times for me gets bonus points for the use of Oma (Austrian way of saying Grandma) in the book! It made me miss my Oma. I enjoyed the boost in confidence whilst at the same time the crashes of societal attitudes. I highly enjoyed this growth of the main character even though there was a level of shallowness to all the others. A fun read.
I liked this book but it was obvious from the minute Gracie got the shoes that she'd end up with Rafe. I just found the end a bit too neat and yet with so many loose ends. A bit of comeuppance for her evil family would have been nice too....
