*A DEMON BOUND* Samantha Martin is an imp, enjoying an extended vacation from Hel. All she wants to do is drink beer by the pool, play mischievous pranks on the humans, and get her hot neighbor in the sack. It’s a relaxing break from her infernal home as long as she manages to avoid the angels, who won’t hesitate to execute her on sight. But when her naughty hellhound lands her in trouble with the local werewolf pack, Sam is blackmailed into helping track and catch a killer. The steps she must take to appease the werewolves will put her right in the crosshairs of the angels. And with angels, there is no second chance. *SATAN'S SWORD* Samantha Martin is an imp, bound by an angel who allows her to live among the humans . . . as long as she follows his rules. It’s never easy for an imp to follow the rules, especially now that Sam’s brother, Dar, has found himself in hot water. He needs her help to retrieve an artifact from the vampires, or the powerful demon he owes a favor to will enslave and torture him for centuries. It should be a simple courier job, but with demons nothing is simple. Sam reluctantly attempts to help her brother, trying not antagonize the vampires or the demon gunning for him, all while chafing to comply with the restrictions her angel has placed on her as a bound demon. *ELVEN BLOOD* Samantha Martin is an imp, a lesser demon from Hel. She has been living under the radar, posing as a human for the last 40 years, but now that she’s bound to an angel and holds the title of Iblis her life is. . .complicated. Sam has become buried in angelic bureaucracy, saddled with a succubus house guest, and is fighting off a never-ending slew of demon hit-men. The powerful demon, Haagenti, won’t rest until she’s dragged back to Hel for “punishment”, and he has put a substantial price on her head – a price that threatens not only her, but the human she’s grown to love. When an elven lord offers to take care of Haagenti in return for tracking down and killing a demon half-breed , Sam thinks she’s found the solution to her most pressing problem. But finding and retrieving this hybrid monster isn't proving easy and time is running out.
Debra lives in a little house in the woods in Maryland with three sons, and a Noah’s ark of four legged family members. She has a corporate job during the day, and writes novels at night, after the kids are tucked in bed.
She drives an Excursion affectionately called The Beast, couldn’t carry a tune if you duct taped it to her back, and enjoys an occasional cosmopolitan (heavy on the vodka). On a good day, she jogs and horseback rides, hopefully managing to keep the horse between herself and the ground.
Her only known super power is ‘Identify Roadkill’.
I had already read the other two stories so this review is mostly for the third book in this series.
As I read more about Sam the more I wonder why I like her. She kills without discrimination, enjoys being a slum lord, causes havoc, and steals people's souls. The thing is, she is changing. It's interesting to see. She is also very funny and unpredictable. Her relationship with Matt is just as exciting as with Gregory. The first demon to feel love. That is why I read this series. She is special and I want to see what she will do next.
The first volume in the Imp series, A Demon Bound, was one of the most entertaining books I’ve read of late, and was reviewed separately. But it makes sense to cover 2+3 as one volume, as they combine to represent a significant story arc. The main problem, I felt, was Dunbar over-stuffed these books with ideas. If she’d stuck to the basic concept, and developed it properly, it might have worked a bit better. Instead, there are any number of threads which feel undercooked, to a greater or less degree.
For example, the serial killer targetting Sam’s slum tenants, or the teenage boys who managed to summon Sam, courtesy of a ritual they found on the Internet. The latter feels especially rife with potential, sadly never realized. Or the heavenly bureaucracy in which Sam gets entangled, complete with committee meetings and detailed reports. I’d rather have heard more about these fascinating and amusing ideas, than the detailed discussion concerning the breeding habits of elves we get.
Quite well written. This is a paranormal action book which could be a movie! I’m also enjoying the possible budding romance between a demon and an angel - if that’s what is happening.
I really enjoyed this series, it was so hilarious, the characters are well drawn, but it was the humor of the main character, Sam (Samantha) that kept me reading. She can't help pulling pranks since she's an imp who has been hiding out on earth for several years but she tries to keep on the low-down so she's doesn't get caught by the angels; they wouldn't send her back to hell, they would kill her and she really loves the life she has here.
The main characters besides Sam are, Wyatt, the human, younger hunk of a next-door neighbor whom she has been lusting after since he moved in; Candy a real estate agent who is also a werewolf, Michelle, one of her closest friends and her property manager and Gregory, an angel who was supposed to kill her but instead ends up helping her and trying to keep from kissing her.
The characters are well-drawn and while there are a few errors in the book they do mostly unnoticeable unless you are just looking for something to complain about. As I mentioned earlier, there’s lots of humor and sarcasm, but there’s also action, sexual innuendo and tension in the first book, the other two contain more but it is not overdone or forced.
I LOVE this series and look forward to reading the rest of the books on the series and I plan on checking out her other series. (I just started the first book in the Templar series and it has another humorous, snarky protagonist).
First, please recognize that I only ordered book one, "A Demon Bound." Books two and three are definitely needed as book one is neat. I'll get them for summer reads in July. Not sure they're still available as singles. IAC one is a one evening quick read.
As well proven, Samantha is an imp, more of a dastardly and lovable one than our daughter ever achieved in her wimpy years. Too old, too many years on earth; too many years hiding, and now with this wonderful human sexy, hulk living next door and two angels looking for her - to kill - her life changes with new twists every chapter, or every few pages if you prefer.
She's hiding from angels Geoffery and Allathean until she decides to get near to them and works women's will to capture and "love" Geoff as multiple fantasy layers envelope them all - demon, human, angels and werewolf changelings. Of course Samantha slips sideways onto the top of a messy pile, leaving both loose ends and more details for the rest of the series.
Book one sings; Samantha alternatively hides and pounces. And books 2 and three? Regardless, of what they may reveal on future reads, I vote for Sam all the way!
This was certainly a very entertaining read. Much better written and narrated than I had anticipated. Sometimes the heroine’s evil nature was fun to watch, and sometimes she was disgusting. The whole thing is incongruous, so if logic is important to you, better stay clear. Also Sam is often inconsistent in her actions and reactions. She can be totally callous, which I find more realistic for her character, then suddenly shows deep insights into other peoples feelings. Like she explains (and shows) how demons have no concept of family, but on the other hand waxes poetic about the sadness of being betrayed by your own brother. It is in part explained away with her slowly becoming more human, but it did not entirely work for me. To my own astonishment I had little trouble with her being in love with a human and also attracted to an angel. It is a strange series, with many nice twists and surprises. I will stop for now, but might read on later. I am especially intrigued by the demon fairy hybrid.

This series was surprising the funniest, most entertaining series I think I’ve read in a long time. The female protagonist Sam (an imp demon) is an ill behaved, doesn’t-take-any-crap type who slowly starts to care more then than a demon should while still staying mischievous in nature. Her antics made me laugh the whole way through. I read all three books in like, three days. Couldn’t pull myself away. There’s angels, demons, elves, vampires, werewolves... it’s basically all covered. I enjoyed all the characters actually, which is surprising. They are all very fleshed out, I didn’t have much trouble imagining what they would all look like or the places where they were. This could easily be a tv series, an MA rated series though. There’s plenty of swearing, sex and violence, which is also a part of some of the most amusing things that happen. I think I laughed because it was just so unexpected. I’m gonna buy and re-read this series again.
Long winded and a lot a vulgar unnecessary language. NOT A RECOMMENDED read. I read all three books to be able to give a fair review. All that I can honestly say is these were awful! Not even trashy writing, but just poorly written overall by the author. I gave two stars for supporting characters because that were the only ones that saved the storyline. The most memorable were the supporting characters: Wyatt, Candy, Dar, and Gregory. The main character - the cockroach, ha-satan, the imp - Samantha Martin was a pitiful character with zero class. The author, Debra Dunbar, needed/needs a remedial course in grammar and writing. Her usage of the pronoun “I” in the predicate of sentences was just wrong!
Wish i could this book more than 5 stars . Not your usual demon vs angel book , To the every day world Samantha MartIn is a slum landlord extraordinaire but in reality shes an imp from hell that's been holidaying on earth , staying under the angels radar. As she soon finds out shes not the only one trying to hide from angels ,as the saying goes the enemy of my enemy is a friend This book has such amazing characters they almost take on a life of their own , the plots are not obvious & the humour will have you laughing out loud , you just won't be able to help it with some of the images Debra Dunbar conjures up with her writing . flew through these first three books & racing on to number four
I LOVE this series! I love all the little petty impish things that Sam does for the sake of entertainment. I love that she seems to be rubbing off onto those holier-than-thou angels. It's really all the smaller details that really make the story. In Satan's Sword, for example, there are cultural clashes between vampires and demons--nothing metaphorical here, just a contrast of social etiquette in ...oh, let's say lawful evil (vampire) vs chaotic evil (demon) communities. Thankfully, Ms. Dunbar has quite the catalog, and I look forward to reading even more impish antics!
I thoroughly enjoy this world. Samantha is fun and sometimes disturbing. I honesty don't now which way the series will go with a triangle of love clearly there. My frustration with the series is the way the problems are "ended". They've all been anticlimactic. I always expect more but am sorely disappointed. I would recommend only to readers that aren't disturbed by some seriously crazy and sometimes gross hijinks.
Really enjoying this series. LOVE Sam!!! Totally love her funny, smart-ass, don't give a shit attitude and demeanor. Although, when it comes to team Wyatt or team Gregory, I am definitely a fan of the latter. I don't know when or how but Sam and Wyatt aren't going to make it. I just hope he realizes they aren't suitable and he moves on with his life and doesn't get killed for being her boyfriend.
I love this series. I bought a special limited edition hardcover this 3 book omnibus which has wonderful art of all the previous covers and other added art work. I've been thumbing through and thinking it is time to do a reread of my favorite Imp, Sam, and her great cast of characters that are along for the ride. My type of humor.
Debra Dunbar is a very good storyteller, having a kinder, gentler demon is different, but I know this, I’ve read the first two books in the series. It’s not in anyway bad, but I keep waiting for a little more “bite” to the main character. However, the storyline is good so I keep reading, enjoy.
Really enjoyed the sarcastic, crazed main character. Has mild sexual content (not too much, just right amount), some cursing, lots of funny scenes. Will definitely read more books by this author. Recommended.
Dunbar has created an amazing alternate universe of elves demons angels and oh my. The characters are well developed and involved. A terrific job and a great start. Looking forward to the next story.
I'm hooked. Sam Martin is one of the most kickass heroines around. I adore her gruesome demonic ways, her quirks, her sloppy hellhound, her skittish demon-horse hybrid and Gregory, well he's just something else.
3.5 Very similar in feel to The Hollows series by Kim Harrison. The storytelling is quick-paced and interesting, but I thought that many parts of sex and gore meant to define (and differentiate) the protagonist as a demon were overly sensational and felt cheap.
The first two were intriguing and I wanted to know more about the angels and demons. I wanted to see how Sam got out of the mischief she was in. The third book seemed like it was lacking something. There was too many things going on.
entertaining engaging characters and great story line if you like shows like supernatural or even the flash you will love this book or for that even lord of the rings fans would be entertained by this series must read books. can not to get next in this series!
I was surprised at how much I liked these books. Especially book three. Shockingly well done. If you think you might like a story in this genre, well, this series gets my gold star of approval. I say “Go for it”
The juxtaposition between demon and angel was a study in opposites ... Not as expected however. Read the books you will have a good time. Well done Ms. Dunbar, and thank you for the good days spent reading them!
Really good characters and plot line is great. Thoroughly Enjoyed series first time and when i saw there was a book i didn't have in my library i rushed to download load and read them again. No spoilers.
I love this series, it is very amusing. A bit gory, and a bit murdery, but it gives the demon a perfect personality which is funny and endearing, but with hints of amoral behaviour and lack of insight. Great stories
Great action with humor all the way through all the books. I was very impressed and have recommended these books to several others. It is also a great romance.
