Lucian Marcello is aware of the expectations following him as the oldest son of one of North America’s most infamous Cosa Nostra Dons. Family in his world is more than blood and sharing a last name. It’s the honor, respect, business, and the life. Being a Capo is just a stepping stone until it’s time for him to take on the role of underboss but a chance meeting with her could be the one thing he’d risk it all for.

She is exactly what he didn’t know he was looking for.

Jordyn Reese spends her time trying to stay under the radar of a man who wouldn’t think twice about killing her. Unwillingly affiliated with a dangerous MC gang, her life is dominated by the men surrounding her and her future rests solely in how useful she can be for them. The last thing she needs is some Mafioso gaining her more unwanted attention from the club.

He is everything she should stay away from but can’t.

Notoriously violent when it comes to getting what he wants, Lucian will stop at nothing to make the target on Jordyn’s back disappear. But sometimes the worst threats are the ones you can’t see until it’s too late. The truth behind Lucian’s history is about to take center stage in more ways than one, and it’ll either save him … or kill him.

This world leaves everyone a little filthy.

This was a pretty solid mafia read that I really wish I had read two years ago.

"Two years ago" AKA...when the damned book actually came out.

Yeah, yeah...what can I say? I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes.

Sorry.

I'm watching my boyfriend Chris Hemsworth in that Huntsman sequel/prequel thing and a sex scene moment pivotal to the understanding of the plot just came on.

Hmmmmmm, all done.

Yep, that's right, I took one for the team.

For science.

But anyhotaustralianass, as I was saying.

I wish I had read this book two years ago.

Because two years ago, the the events of this books and the overall tone in general would have would have seemed darker...filthier...just more-ER.

But alas, after reading THIS series, THIS series, and THIS series?

THIS book just seemed so much more tame in comparison.

Regardless, it's all relative and subjective, no?

This may seem darker than those other books in some people's minds, after all.

That said, I did enjoy this one well enough and will most likely continue with the series at some point, especially being that it's available via KU.

I just feel like going "Uuuuurgh!!! At last!" I mean come on it feels like it's been ages since I've read a book that I devoured overnight let alone compelled me to write a review. Mafia romances are pretty popular at the moment and as much as I appreciate that, I don't enjoy every single one I read. And lets be honest the plot is basically the same, so the author has to use her writing ability, basically give an old plot fresh life by writing it well.

What I loved about this book was the fact that, although it is a romance and of course I want the romance at the forefront, but I also need to feel like I'm reading a book about the Italian Mob. It has to feel authentic, and that's what this book gave me. My idea of an authentic mafia romance.

Our main characters are Lucian and Jordyn. Lucian is a Marcello, the creme de la creme of the mafia his family is at the top of the food chain when it comes to the mafia since his father is the Don. He's mafia prince with a dark past, being the illegitimate son of the previous Mafia Boss will do that. When he was only six years old, he had to run and live on the streets or be killed. He's come a long way though, he was taken in by his father's best friend who also happens to be the reigning Boss.

Jordyn is a widow, at only 21 years old her life is in jeopardy. As the member of a MC outfit her previous status of an old lady can no longer protect her. She's club property, forced to do the bidding of the club president who obviously hates her guts.

Jordyn and Lucian meet at the confessional booth in church of all places. Now this is where I feel I have to warn you, Lucian and Jordyn's romance was positively whirlwind, in other words we had a bit of an insta-love situation. Now I say this in hindsight because it never bothered me. This was just one of those times.

"Thank you."
"Never thank me. Not for helping you, sweetheart. The only thing I need from you is for you to tell me what you need, when you need it. If I can, I will always give it to you."
"Safety," Jordyn whispered.
Lucian nodded, his fingers ghosting over the multiple bruises littering her arm. "I can do that."

****************************

"Don't cry," he said again, kissing her jaw.
"This is what people who love do, Lucian. They cry when someone they love hurts."
"But I don't hurt with you, Jordyn."

When Lucian puts Jordyn under his protection, he brings down the wrath of the MC outfit down on his family. Jordyn's life is at risk and Lucian will do anything to keep her safe. I loved how close the Marcello family was, I loved how Cecilia Lucian's adopted mother doted on her husband and boys and welcomed Jordyn with open arms. It just made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Don't get me wrong the Marcello boys are Made men but when it comes to their mother they're still just boys. Jordyn character came through pretty strong too, once she felt safe with Lucian I have to say she showed herself to be a strong and capable woman. So there's definitely no doormat or meek heroine in this story.

Plot wise the story had me riveted, Lucian and Jordyn's relationship was intense, Lucian was helluva sexy, and caring and possessive of Jordyn. *swoons* The next two books are about Lucian's brothers Gio, the baby of the family and Dante, Anthony's underboss. I have to say I'm very excited to read their stories. Hopefully I'll love Gio's character too, even though he seems to be a bit of a goofball!

Their life didn't fit into society's norms. It didn't fucking have to.
Lucian wasn't an honorable with this Cosa Nostra roots and the gun always hidden at his back, but was Jordyn's.
And with her, it was good to be filthy.

This was a BR with Snow, Sasha and Shanny! It was my first Bethany-Kris read and it was loads of fun! I love getting down and dirty with the mob! And Lucian Marcello was all that and more!

 photo marcellos1_zpsqcvhvqwr.jpg

“Being an Italian born Cosa Nostra family was everything when it came to living life as a Marcello. Family. Honor.

God. La famiglia. Onore. Dio.

Greed. Money.

The business.

It all needed to be handled just.”

The Marcellos from Antony, the Boss, to his three sons, Lucian, Dante and Giovanni – “They didn’t need to spill a drop of blood to make a point. Magnetic. Intelligent. Bold.” Lucian Marcello is the eldest of the three and also adopted. The son of the Don's deceased best friend.

 photo Luc_zpsloq2qxlz.jpg

Lucian is cold and ruthless but also has a tenderness that we only see when he's with Jordyn Reese. Jordyn's born to a young, loose woman whose ambition in life is to have a good time. Jordyn's mother ODs when she's thirteen and she's taken in by the MC, the Sons of Hell.

 photo jordyn_zpsp6pi2xnb.jpg

When Lucian and Jordyn cross paths, it's combustible. These two don't understand it but can't deny it either. So their story begins as they navigate the threats and danger within both their lives while trying to explore and discover their attraction and affection for each other. While Lucian gives Jordyn safety, his protection and love. Jordyn helps Lucian wrestle with his childhood demons and also find peace and love.

“Never before had Jordyn wanted to feel like she was owned by a man. That everything she was, her body, heart, soul, and mind, was only his. Lucian did that to her - for her.”

“The kiss is to love what lightning is to thunder…that kind of love is the colpo di fulmine – the thunderbolt.

“Jesus, Lucian.”
“Again,” he demanded, grinding harder into her sex, his fingers grabbing tightly to her hips. “My name in your mouth just like that, sweetheart. Like you adore and love me, only me. Like I’m all you need and want.”
Jordyn whimpered low, “You are.”

This was a fast read filled with action, murder, hot sex and a really sweet and refreshing love story. While Jordyn had her moments (okay, only 2) where I seriously questioned her thinking, she and Lucian were mature and their relationship development was real with no over the top drama.

Now I need me some more Marcello...Gio's story here I come!

Barley 3 Fast-Forward Stars..

Now Before you all pull out your guns and start shooting me in the ass for rating a mafia novel a 3 star...Hold that thought for a second lovelies,Give me a chance to explain..I'm just saying that

First,Let me point out the fact that this book wasn't bad,not at all..It just wasn't good enough..
Something important was missing,Something that makes or breaks an excellent mafia novel. And honestly I can't seem to figure out what "that" is...

description

My thoughts on the plot : Maybe I expected more after listening to all the hype and reading all the excellent reviews by my besties here on GR..Or maybe J.J.McAvoy's Ruthless People set my mafia bar unrealistically high. But for what ever reason,I found myself getting perpetually distracted and putting this book down numerous times :/

My Thoughts on the Characters: Both were charming and likable characters..They weren't overly annoying nor were they prone to stupid decisions. So that defiantly a plus point, right there.
While I did like them individually as characters, together their chemistry came across a bit bland.Despite the fact that there are numerous sex scenes, there was just no spark.*Poof*Nothing there :/

Would I recommend it ?
Not really,No..Unless your a HUGE mafia fan and can't bare to let this series pass.;)

Will I be continuing the series ?
Nope. *shrug*

Any Warnings ?
Not really...UNLESS your NOT a fan of the EROTICA gene or INSTA-LOVE.

Honestly, not as good as I expected 3.5*

I have mixed feelings about this book, I loved 'Antony' and couldn't wait to start 'Lucian' and it started really well but along the way it became apparent that (for me anyway) something was missing.
While I liked both Lucian and Jordyn (despite one incredibly stupid moment) I just didn't feel their chemistry, there was sex but I didn't feel the heat or the passion.
And while I loved his parents and brothers and the feeling of family I felt the story should have had more, it was obvious from the first attempt who the bad guy was and I know it wasn't supposed to be a surprise I would have preferred it not to be so obvious so early on.
I was all set to continue on with this series but I'm going to take a break before I start 'Giovanni' partly because 'Lucian' wasn't everything I expected and partly because I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about Gio's book since we know beforehand he has issues with alcohol and probably drugs.

6 "MY-KIND-OF-MAFIOSO" stars

review to come.
I'm going in...LOL April 8th

This was a buddy-read with my guuurls Irish, Shanny (although I call her Shhh) and Suz and it was a total hit for me...

I don't know how to put it mildly, so I'll go straight to the head!

Dear God, I got shot through the heart and he's to blame –
Lucian Marcello (the name itself gives me goose bumps) – Capo, the killer and yet the most gentle and attentive alpha male I have ever met , well had a chance to read about, that is – but he doesn't give LOVE a bad name (Bon Jovi just happens to fit in there like ordered) he makes it WORTH every pain, every beat, every breath in one's being.

I fell in love the instant I 've met him and he was suddenly in my head looking like this...

but he wasn't a man who gave love easily...and he didn't kiss cause...
“Kissing was so very intimate. Emotional, even. While sex was carnal, kissing was passionate. It filled in an entirely different way. Lovers kissed. It was almost meant to claim someone, to keep them, taste them, and have them for only you in that private way.”

You see, I know exactly how the heroine Jordyn felt through out the whole story cause 100% of the time I wished I was her. LOL Nah, i ain't gonna post my picture here haha, but I would picture her like this ...

cause she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen...

She was a young woman who wasn't aware of her own strength, she was a survivor (had a rough life, mother a junkie and deceased, left in the hands of the MC club - whose name shall not be mentioned here, cause they were just so pissing me off, I just wanted them...well, dead - and that vile man, the MC President, Jesus, I don't even wanna spend any of my thoughts on that mother f*cker!- anyway, Jordyn was left at their mercy like some scum, trash to be f*cked and used...well, the f*ck NO!!!)

and this is where Lucian, my/her hero mobster comes in...

well, when they first see each other, it was like a flash of bright light, a vision that kept lingering in his head, torturing him, haunting him...and when he saw her again, his mind was set on her, cause this couldn't be a coinsidence...

He saves her, heals her from the horrid consequences of MC members' cruel beating that she took...and he gave her the ONLY thing she wanted at that moment from him – SAFETY, not asking or demanding anything in return...
“You asked me to give you something,” Lucian continued, not taking his frustrated gaze off hers for a moment. “You needed to be safe, and I’ve done that. That meant to me I needed to make sure you didn’t have to go back to that life at all.

But he was a very complex man, troubled with his own demons of the past, questions of selfdefinition, of total fullfillment and self appreciation under this hard mask of cruel...
he was also deflecting, he was holding himself back...from himself and from her touch, from her body, mind and soul...
“I already told you. I’m not a good man.”
“I don’t want a good man, Lucian,” Jordyn whispered.
“You should. A good man who will give you everything you want, keep you safe, and adore you the way you deserve. You should want that.”
“Funny, isn’t that what you’ve been doing?”

She was broken physically and she thought that matched her from the inside BUT he saw ...
“A female that drives me insane, but you probably don’t even realize it. Skin the color of cream, and eyes like the sky. My hand molds perfectly into the curve of your waist and you fit against my chest beautifully. You smell like peaches. Your laugh is kind of musical. I watch you all the time, wondering if you’re going to change somehow, and you don’t.

And she's growin strong with him, beside him, for him...emerging into his world, excepting him for who he is and forming the person who she wanted to be to stand strong and proud next to her man. She was sassy and spoke her mind, protecting him and standing as equal in support and love...and was forever grateful for it...
“Thank you.”
Lucian’s dark brow rose. “For what?”
“Keeping your promise and giving me safety. Taking me out of something I couldn’t escape myself.
Being you, I guess.”
“Only for you, bella mia.”

She made me mad at one point but she redeemed herself toward the end and now I can understand why she did what she did...she had to, BUT still she pissed me off!

it was an infatutation at first sight, for all three of us, I guess! LOL

but they could only put it on hold for a small amount of time, the power, the pull was too strong, too carnal... and the resistance was futile…
“What do you want?” he asked her.
Jordyn’s lips ghosted into a smile against his cheek. “Now?”
“No games. Just tell me.”
“You. I want you.”
“Ho bisogno di te. Need, sweetheart. I need you.”

But that is also the unknown territory for both of them...
“You want me to need you.”
“I do,” she agreed softly.
“Good, because I’ve never needed someone, Jordyn. Not once. I’m going to follow your lead with whatever this is.”
“Show me, then. Show me what need is, Lucian.”

And yet there were insecurities rising up and stirring the clear waters...but he was such a man about it, reasurring Jordyn, that she' s all he needs and wants
“Just let me apologize, Jordyn. I don’t want you to be someone else. I don’t need you to be anybody but exactly who you are. Maybe the way I’ve gone about this whole thing has made it seem like it, but I want you for you.

emotionaly and physicaly…
“I want you,” Lucian ground out through clenched teeth. “On me, soaking me, fucking me like you do.”

God, the way he loved her, gentle and soft...
“High above her head, their fingers tangled together against the pillows. Hazel eyes stared into hers as gasping pants turned into rising cries. There was no gimmick to their love-making, no fast and dirty words or fucking. It wasn’t needed. Her body responded to his so well without it.”

yet hard and passionate...
“For a brief moment, Lucian simply felt her.
“I need you to move,” Jordyn said hoarsely. Every muscle in her body felt wound up like a coiled spring ready to snap. “Please, just move.”
Lucian laughed deeply. “Are we over gentle, sweetheart?”
“So over. Fuck me.”

This is my favorite part in the book (I won't tell what had caused this, but they had to be apart for a while and the need, the love is so vivid in his words and in his touch.., and through out the almost physical, carnal need he still respects her and keeps her safe....I was just swept away...)
“You know I love you, right?”
“Of course.”
“Good,” Lucian murmured heavily. “Because tonight, I want to fuck you like I don’t. If I have to leave tomorrow, I won’t be able to touch you for who knows how long. I want you to feel me for days, bella. In you, on you … my fist in your hair, fingers digging into your sides leaving marks, my teeth on your skin … everywhere.
I need to know if that’s okay,” Lucian said quietly, a huskiness saturating his words.

Just bloody hell! What that man did to me! He ruined me for others! LOL and this was my undoing!!!
Lucian’s mouth curved with a wicked smirk as he released her nipple. “Hurts, doesn’t it? You like a little pain. Tell me what I want to hear, beautiful girl, and we’ll really get started.”
“Sweetheart, say it.”
Jordyn yanked on his hair, giving back that pain and making him look at her.
“I want you to fuck me.”
“Christo, sì,” Lucian groaned in response.

Such a dangerous man, a merciless, brutal killer, an executor...and somehow she (and me!) felt safe, protected, loved…
”Revenge was sweet.
At two feet away, Lucian’s Eagle met the man’s forehead, stopping him.
“I told you it’d blow off your face.”
It did. Lucian didn’t flinch at the after spray of fluid, blood, and matter.”

His voice was a command, sharp, clear and impersonal...
“Pull out a gun and I will shoot you,” Lucian said loudly. “Move and I will shoot you. Look me in the eyes and I will shoot you. It’s pretty fucking simple. The quicker we say what we want to say, and get what we came to get, the faster we’ll be gone.”

He was brutal, seeking for revenge, cold and eager to protect what was his...
”Where is Will Vetta?” Again, no one answered. Lucian pulled back the trigger and didn’t even blink.
“If I can’t have Will today, I’ll take second best as a prize, Ron. I think we’ve both earned it.”
“I don’t want Jordyn,” Ron tried to say.
Lucian shrugged. “But Will does. I won’t let him have her and you’re a damn good example to make.”
That effectively ended the conversation for Lucian. And Ron’s life.

The story was flowing like the river, the current drew you deeper and further with every stroke...

I was in a movie with some awesome characters, Antony the Boss – phenomenal Papa bear of mafia, the true mafioso, cruel, dangeorus, commanding like the true Boss shoud be but justified and caring; Cecelia – the mafia mother Bee, as equaly determined and caring as her man and those two hot brothers – the youngest recless, manwhore Capo Gio (Giovanni) and elusive, hardcore man Dante – the underboss...

there are also characters that made my blood boil from anger and frustration, but since I was not able to do anything about it I just had to turn the pages to see how „my fave people“ would deal with those scums!

I loved reading and imagining picture perfect in my mind as my new favorite couple hold themselves in action, in banter, in support, in love...and some steam, too...
„I want the kind of love from a man who knows and notices everything about me. From the silly little things, to the big things, and all the in-betweens...

She didn't want a good man. She wanted her kind of man."

Guuurl, who wouldn't? You lucky bitch! LOL

Yeah, like I said he's my kind of mafioso, my kind of man, too… just like this…

God, i wish it never ended...

I really, really like how Bethany-Kris writes her characters, Lucian and Jordyn are no exception. However, I wanted more from the suspense plots which is why this is not 5 stars. I kinda felt a bit let down by the baddies getting their comeuppance off page. I so wanted to see those revolting specimens suffer!

Audiobook Review. 4.5 Stars. This book was a great reminder of why I love mafia books. I enjoy the contrast of their rules and the application of such. I enjoy when the bad boys fall for their ladies. I enjoy all the action and excitement that comes with the experience.

The plot was well done with strong pacing and prose to support it. Lucian was a great hero that seemed to have an easy and quick connection to Jordyn. I appreciate the balance in Jordyn. She’s strong but fragile in some ways too. It made her all the more real.

The narrator, John Thrust, did a fantastic job. He did transitions and inflections particularly well. I usually prefer dual narration but found I didn’t even miss it this time.

"Family. Honor. God.
La famiglia. Onore. Dio.
Greed. Money. The business."

After reading Antony, I made another great decision by rereading this book. Ah Lucian!

Lucian is adopted son of Antony, who is mafia boss. Lucian's real father was Antony's best friend John Grovatti. He was killed by previous mafia boss Vinnie Catrolli under false accusation that he was beating his wife Kate, who is also Vinnie's daughter and sister of Cecelia, Antony's wife. Kate isn't Lucian's mother, its Lina. John's love of life.

I know this is too much infos, but I suggest you to read first Antony's book and then Lucian. It will be easier for you.
Anyway, back to the story. Lucian is part of Marcello family. He has two brothers: Giovanni (Gio) and Dante. He is in mafia business, like his father.

"They were a little bit filthy, Lucian's family.
Lawbreakers. Troublemakers."

This days, MC The sons of hell are giving them headaches.

Jordyn

Jordyn is working in a strip club Legs and Leather, owned by Ron, VP of the Brooklyn chapter of the Sons of Hell. She's been working there for 5 years, started after her mother's death. Since her boyfriend Gabe (Ron's son) died a year before, he was also her protector, she finds herself as a target of Will Vetta, the president of MC.

"Being an old lady doesn't help when the one guy in the club who protects you is gone and the highest one up is gunnin' on you something awful. I can't even tell you to run, because it sure won't do you any good, but you can do this."

I loved Lucian and Jordyn. Lucian was knocked on the ass from the very first sight of her.

"B-bella scusi."

I now why Snow is obsessed with Lucian and she is not the only one.

"It's okay, sweetheart. This isn't going to happen again. Ever. He won't ever touch you again."

"I'm pretty straightforward with things I need and want. You're one of them."

"People are watching us again."
"Good. Beautiful things should be watched. They shine."

And now, if you excuse me I am going to read Gio's book.

The mafia aspect of the book was well done, however, I guessed the instigator of early on. It was so obvious to me. *sigh*

There were a couple of moments in the book where I felt that the writing was exceptional (close to 5 star worthy)-more so than the rest of the book. But overall, it was just okay for me. I tried really, really hard but unfortunately, I didn't love it.

If you were considering reading it, don't let this dissuade you because I am most definitely in the minority here.

I love this writing style of Bethany-Kris. The story here continues much later in time than Antony but there's still so much symmetry and continuity from that novella to the story of Lucien. As the reader you're privy to a vast, complicated history that resurfaces itself in big ways. The themes of the importance and faith in family and strength are prevalent as this author takes deeper into the web of Marcello family. Lucien Marcello is a dark, complicated man. One for whom finds solace in providing protection to woman who needs it, a woman for whom grabbed his attention at first sight. The connection between Lucien and Jordyn is palpable. She's an outstanding heroine and their passion together gives fully to the reader. I really enjoyed this Mafia love story and can't wait for Giovanni.

I plan to review the series as a whole once finished with the Collection.

Cazzo merda !!!

Meet Jordyn

I really like Jordyn. Despite having a snowball's chance of surviving hell, she's strong and intelligent. She's a survivor, but not a badass. She's open to the less than legal and cutthroat side of the criminal world, but isn't an unscrupulous bitch. It ends up being a good mixture of character traits for me.

"The only thing Will couldn't take from Jordyn was her mind, her spirit, and her strength. Those were all hers. He couldn't ruin them if she didn't let him."

I love that she immediately recognizes her feelings for Lucian as "something" , but doesn't mentally jump off the insta--love cliff; instead she wanted to be sure her feeling weren't just an infatuation or hero worshiping.

Likewise, she's not out to change our dark knight or become the hero of his story. She sees he is dangerous and far from a choir boy, but is yet trustworthy and tender with her, and accepts that for exactly what it is vs trying to redeem him or whitewash him into a good guy.

Lucian

Lucian is perfect. This nice mix of dapper and gangster.

Did I mention he is a virgin at ______... A virgin at WHAT exactly you'll just have to read to find out;)

Unapologetically mafioso? Yes. And, when I've read about such men laughing, crying, and blushing in other books, it has always seemed feigned and unrealistic. Here, however, Lucian's sensitive side is the perfect balance of being a natural alpha male presence while also being an affectionate lover.

Him: "I'll be gentle."
Her: "You always are."
Him: "And when you want more than gentle, I'll give you that, too."
Her: "Good."

Honesty! For f's sake I get so tired of the same old damn stories revolving around the same old lies and deceit for the same old SINGLE purpose of angst. Lucian says exactly what he means. He answers the FMC openly and honestly. He doesn't lie to her. I Fing love that.

And the shit that comes out of this man's mouth...

Him: "You know I love you, right?"
Her: "Of course."
Him: "Good because tonight, I want to fuck you like I don't."

The Plot

There's quite a bit going on between the people who want her dead and the people who want him dead, mafia politics, family politics, past traumas, and a romance.

It's well done for the most part. Certain parts were actually very well done, such as the elevator scene. The sex scenes were very steamy and well written for straight-laced romance.

I think the romance was much stronger than the mafia storyline and 'bad guy' storylines.

Her 'bad guys' were known. The resolve was very lackluster, but realistic.

His 'bad guys' were supposed to be a mystery. I'd say that is the weakest point of this plot. Who was behind it was blatantly obvious and the why of it felt forced.

Another week point is how the FMC interacts with the MMC's dad. That element felt very forced into the realm of nice. It was too easy. It was too OTT that she'd speak to him as she did.

Satisfying end.

So, it's a mixture of things that worked very well and some things that were meh, but not horrible.

Key Points

Key points to consider:

• Violence and murder - moderate
• FMC is beaten severely in graphic detail.
• No OW/OM present tense. (The FMC was formally claimed by an MC member, but it wasn't love and he isn't present in the book.)
• The characters go to the Catholic church often.
• Drug use (weed.)
• This is a standalone within a series and has epilogue for the couple at the end.

Bottom Line

One of the better MC/Mafia books I've read. I find that most are either too abrasive with OW/OM and lacking any moral compass or are too cheesy and whitewashed. This to me was just the right temp. Characters & romantic plot were excellently written. Secondary plot points were weak in some areas, which is my main deduction in my rating.

3.5 stars

Thank you for the recommendation, Roisin.

I liked it... didn't love it.

description

I tend to like my mafia reads a bit more corrupt and wicked. I like them much darker and grittier than this book ended up being.

This was great, but definitely on the lighter side for me personally.

There were a few issues that I felt were too quickly smoothed over and then forgotten.
Maybe those issues will pop up again in the books that follow this first one of the series.

I'd recommend this for someone who is new to mafia reads OR someone who isn't as depraved as I am, and likes their mafia stories a bit more mild.

That being said... I enjoyed the writing of Bethany-Kris and will probably pick up the other books in this series at some point.

whomp whompppp....DNF at 60%

This could have worked for me..maybe...Especially if I hadn't read Sempre by JM Darhower first.

WAY TOO many similarities between this book and Sempre for me to enjoy it:

1. The nicknames like Tesoro
2. The mentioning of the "colpo di fulmine /the thunderbolt.”
3. The girl on the run getting involved with the "bad" mafia principesso
5. The 'adoptive brother' story line
4. The next book's story line is also too similar to JM's By Any Other Name (rival family son / daughter falling in love)

There's so many more I cant even bother to list them. I will point out the writing is decent and the story line would be good IF (and this is a big IF) it hadn't been done already. And done amazingly by JM, I might add.

*****5 Stars for Jordyn and Lucian
***3 I-stayed-confused-half-the-time stars for the Mafia storyline

Lucian is adopted son of the local crime boss. Jordyn is just trying to stay afloat unseen in the local MC, The Sons of Hell.

Lucian meets Jordyn accidentally in a church confessional of all places (I still believe his mother had something to do with that). They meet again at the strip club the MC owns. This brings unwanted and painful attention to Jordyn. Lucian sweeps in and whisks her away.

I absolutely loved Lucian and Jordyn. It was definitely insta-love. I loved their relationship. Even given what he does, Lucian was so sweet and protective of Jordyn. He was very romantic and was so good to her.
“Like that right there,” he murmured. “My name in your mouth. Sweet and low with a little bit of air behind it. Wanting me. As if I’m the only man you need. I want to learn those sounds and what makes them … all of them.”

”Jordyn loved this man. Loved him wholly, entirely. Loved the way he loved her.”

Jordyn was one tough cookie. She didn't take shit from Lucian or his father. She readily accepted and fit into the lifestyle. This lifestyle includes: drugs, illegal arms, violence and murder…lots of violence. At times, it was hard to reconcile that this man, who truly loved Jordyn, could do the things he did. If you don’t like that sort of thing, I wouldn’t recommend it. I did stay confused 50% of the time when the discussions turned to the hierarchy and family of the mafia. I had a hard time figuring out who was related to each other or who worked for who. I kept picturing the Sapranos...

I liked how the family was very loving and good to each other. The children treated their parents with respect, especially their mother. They are very good to the women in the family, well except Kate...It would have been very easy for the men to do what they wanted and treat the women as nothing but property but they didn't. It helped to put aside some of the violence that occurs on the "business" side.

Overall, these two were really great together and I enjoyed their romance very much. I was a little disappointed in the Epilogue. I didn't think Lucian's actions in the epilogue represented how he was in the book. It upset me. He does see the error or his ways and Jordyn sets him straight...she doesn't take shit from him! It definitely left things open to be continued but I was looking for a little more sweetness.

When I started this series with Antony, I knew that each book would be interesting. This author's writing style and her male characters are absolutely brilliant!!

I loved Lucian. I think it all started when Antony found out about his existence. It blossomed when he was found and adopted into the Marcello family. And it flourished as he grew into a well-adjusted and much loved man.

I liked how his personality and mannerisms were traced back to both of his fathers, John and Antony. The whole nature vs. nurture idea of it really touched me.

I liked his instant connection with Jordyn and how hard they both fought it. The battle wasn't hard or long and there was very little angst involved. However, the push and pull of it kept things interesting.

The action scenes, though not incredibly detailed, were enough to give this book the suspenseful element it needed. Lucian and his Desert Eagle were freaking hot and the sex scenes were scorching.

So far, this series has turned out to be a winner. Now it's time to go see Giovanni.

Enjoy! xo

4 Mafioso Meets MC Stars!!

This Mafia Romance book was written how I prefer my mafia books. It’s not full of hardcore violence however; it is a Mafia book so there is some violence.

Lucian lives with his adoptive parents who have loved and nurtured him since he was eight years old. His father Anthony is Dom of their organized crime syndicate. Lucian became part of their family when Anthony found Lucian living on the streets after the death of his natural father (who was Anthony’s best friend, brother-in-law by marriage, and associate), his mother was a mafia mistress and after her death he was alone until Anthony finds him. Anthony takes him home, and makes him his own, as does his two sons and wife. Lucian is truly ensconced within the family fold! Other than his family, everyone Lucian associates with personally are mafia.

Jordyn, the heroine was also (semi) orphaned when she was thirteen, since her mothers death she was raised and somewhat protected by an MC Club. However; the club is now after her for leaving them when she is no longer protected due to her boyfriend’s (who was a high-ranking club member) death.

 photo PicsArt_1499913088540_zpsryolb2dr.jpg

When Lucian catches sight of Jordyn in a chance encounter, he is instantly smitten. Imagine his surprise when he and his family force a meeting with the MC Club President over turf boundaries and Jordyn, is the cocktail waitress in the strip club owned by the MC where the meeting is taking place, Jordyn is shocked and thrown for a loop when she comes face to face again with Lucian.

Things go from bad to worse for Jordyn after a brutal confrontation with club members. Meanwhile, Lucian not being able to get Jordyn out of his mind goes to her, finds her brutalized, takes her, heals her, and now is willing to do whatever necessary to keep her, which is no easy feat since the MC’s are after her.

All-in-all I enjoyed this book. I liked the storyline, the H&h, and the secondary characters (I’m definitely looking forward to reading their stories!). I especially loved the family bond, you’d never know Lucian was adopted, he was a Marcello period!

4 Stars!

I really do enjoy a good mafia book. Although this one wasn't nearly as gritty as I like them I still enjoyed it.

Lucian Marcellos had a difficult childhood that he has grown from but still sometimes keeps him up at night with bad dreams. He's known to roam the halls and is the quietest of the brothers. He was taken into this family and adopted at the young age of 8. He has never felt like he wasn't a part of the family though. The family being a strong Italian mafia one. He has two younger brother's, Dante and Giovanni. Although he is the oldest Dante is the biological oldest and next in line to be the 'Don' of his family. That is just fine with Lucian. He is happy with his place in his family and has no desire to be the 'boss'. Though his family is worried about him and the quiet solitude life he leads. He doesn't like discussing his issues but with a mother like Cecelia he has no choice but to go to confession in church when she advises him to. If only he knew going to confession would turn his world upside down and change his future. For the better of course. Well, after some blood is shed.

Jordyn Reese has spent the majority of her life trying to stay off everyone's radar and just keep her head above water. She is in constant survival mode because of the life her mother dropped and left her in. Losing her mother at a young age to an over-dose left Jordyn an orphan and unfortunately in the hands of an MC gang. She had protection for awhile until the man who gave it to her was killed. Now the president of the gang says she's fair game. Jordyn doesn't agree and takes a horrible beating because of it. Not to mention it didn't help that Lucian ended up at th MC's strip club she waitresses at and showed her too much attention making it unintentionally worse for her. But from here a swift and quick romance begins between Jordyn and Lucian and love is not far behind.

I wasn't bothered by how quickly this relationship moved. I liked them together and thought they were sweet. Lucian is pretty ruthless in his business but all those walls fall apart when it came to Jordyn. So the romance was solid on all points. What I wanted and needed more of was the violence and grittiness that I expect with a mafia book. I was glad the author didn't shy away from what took place with Jordyn and the gang. I mean it was awful but that kind of chaos and violence and danger is what I want with my mafia read. I want it to be action packed with guns a blazing. I didn't get much of that with this one. But like I said, I still really liked it. I loved Lucian and his family. I liked how tight they all are and how much they love each other. So if your looking for a good mafia book that is easy on the violence and heavy on romance I recommend picking this one up.

Happy reading dolls! xx

Enjoyable read. Lucian and Jordyn were great togther:) he is such a sweet ,loving man to her. She was awesome. I love that she didn't take his shit or anyone else's :) I'm not really into mafia stories but I liked this one. aside from the Violence and illegal things they are are good ,loving family to each other lol if that makes sense:)

safety : H never loved, had lots of women before but never brought anyone around. no other women drama. no mention of he sex life .
h had only one lover which she didn't love. she only cared for him as a friend (best). she did have his name and biker gang name tattooed on her but it was only for protection. I didn't like it but I got over it and understood. there is a very graphic scene with h . she is beat up real bad and tattoo is burned off.it was hard to read. I felt bad for her. there is murder and drug use a little( another thing I didn't care for H smoking weed ). h finds a photo album (H's mom has documented everything in his life)there is a photo of him and a prom date that his mom made him go to. h gets a tiny jealous . it is said he only went because his mom said he could have a after party after. also he wanted to go alone but of course his mom wasn't haven't it so this ow date canceled on her last minute so they hooked up and went. she was a friend of a friend. h ask hook up as in just going togther or going togther and hooking up. H smiles because he loves that she is jealous of something that happened ten years ago. so he never actually answers her but I'm assuming he did.lol and yes this bothered me haha. I was mad that picture still existed . In epilogue h is mad at H and hasn't talked to him in 3 days because he stood out all night and didn't call her. when he came home he was still drunk. he was out with his brother. there was no other women for him. he does apologize several times for it. it was a little disappointing because it seemed out of character for him but I still love him and h handled it so well I fell for her more:) Gotta love a good bad man:) and a strong, loving, not gonna take his crap woman:) he really is so good to her and her him. great couple!

I do have a question, who was it that send h her mother's ring? I don't recall it getting solved? did I miss something? if any one knows please tell me.lol thanks

I was actually debating if it’s a step up or a step down but I’ve decided, it’s a step up for Lucian.

I like how at the start, the backstory of Lucian was presented and the family he grew into. No mysteries and all, and I feel I know him already. From the little boy that he was to the man that he has become.
“Being an Italian, Cosa Nostra born family was everything when it came to living life as a Marcello.
Family. Honor. God.
La famiglia. Onore. Dio.
Greed. Money. The business.”

And then comes, Jordyn. The way they’ve met? It is beautiful. I know and I felt the connection that is instant. It was not pushed. It was just how it is supposed to be.
“No, the woman was beautiful in a heart stopping, stunning, and make-your-lungs-ache kind of way.”

As the Marcello’s are set in their ways, settling is never an issue for them. But it was the thought of falling in love that has never entered in their minds. Or as Antony says it for Julian, his infatuation. Lucian knows what he wants and even if he doesn’t understands what he feels, he goes for it.
”A mouth meant for kissing."

"He didn’t kiss, ever.”

I also like how Jordyn is. Strong, brave and when the opportunity presents itself, she doesn’t have to second guess herself of what she wants and just go for it. I also love how she was bitchy. Go girl!
“I want the kind of love from a man who knows and notices everything about me. From the silly little things, to the big things, and all the in-betweens.”

Lucian may seem invincible, infallible and nothing can break him but his show of vulnerability was what actually make me love him. Their relationship is far from perfect and they have encountered misunderstandings and arguments, and it’s what makes it so real. Yes, Lucian know everything about Jordyn, but he doesn’t really know her. And I think, the way they struggle for it, Lucian getting pissed at Jordyn and the other way around, to make what they have to work, it was beautiful. Yes, Jordyn love Lucian but she isn’t some martyr who’ll just take what Julian throw at her without her calling him on it.

I think I may have hate Jordyn at some point because of her stupid decision, but I guess, it was justifiable. Huh, I’m making justifications for her. LOL

Anyways, I guess the very reason it didn’t make it to full 5 stars is that I wanted more action. More killing and more gore. Yes, there were the MC and their ways was also explained, but I think it wasn't enough. Maybe I was hoping it will be bloodier. But I guess, it’s what makes it a beautiful story to read. Not so heavy, and not so much violence and bloodshed. Most especially, I enjoyed the hot scenes.

How do I feel right now? Disappointed.

I was really looking forward to reading a new 'Mafia' book. I loved Scarface, The Godfather & Goodfellas but this was not really a Mafia book in my opinion. This was a new adult (insta-love) contemporary romance with some random Mafia elements thrown in. It was like Lucian was pretending to be this big, scary man but was just a little boy playing pretend. If I saw him in a dark alley, I would not run in the opposite direction screaming my head off. He was such a pussy, I could probably knock him out myself.

If you're looking for a good Mafia read, don't bother with this one. Read Spin instead.

DNF at 31%

This is so sad though because I was really enjoying the actual story...but the insta-love was simply too much to overlook. I can't stand insta-love, so this was unfortunately a dnf for me.

It was good and i enjoyed it but being italian i didn't like some of the errors the author made when using italian, maybe i'm too finicky but some things i can't get over.I also think that a member of the mafia would never divulge who he is and what he does to a woman he just met, especially an outsider.
And Lucian was too weepy at times.
