Living on Gummy Worms is a Christian fiction novel, exploring our tendency to seek out the "gummy worms" of this world - various material things - in attempt to fill ourselves up, finding that our world does not have the power to satisfy. Only God does.
This novel takes you on a journey of four fictional characters - Gretchen, Morgan, Sydney, and Shane. Although each individual is different and has different struggles, all grapple with the tendency to seek out our world's gummy worms, and all fall prey to the insecurities and destruction that result. As the characters evolve, will they continue to follow that path of destruction, or will they find that the only true source of satisfaction lies with God alone?
Kirsten Diane Wright grew up in Seattle, Washington, where she has been passionate about writing from an early age. She earned her Bachelor's in Psychology and Spanish from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, and her Master's of Education in School Counseling from Lewis & Clark College in Portland. She currently resides with her husband Noah in Hermiston, Oregon, where she works as school counselor.
I took my chance on reading this book with what I considered a strange title and I'm glad I did. Kirsten Wright did a masterful job of creating realistic characters and taking me on their journey through the rough times in their lives until they finally discover the real basis of happiness - the love of God and what he can do in our lives. "Living on Gummy Worms" contains an overt Christian message that continues to be important a world so full of hate and discontent. I would've given the book the highest rating, but I can't overlook the fact it needs some editing to correct the many word usage and grammar mistakes.
Absolutely one of my favourite books. I'll have to read this again!! There's no mistaking that there are several mistakes that need editing in this book, but aside from that, the characters were amazing to follow and I was hooked from the first page! I loved how there was a kind of mysterious element to the book, though it kept you guessing. Glad he finally got the girl too :D
