After three months in the suicide prevention wing of St. George’s, Audrey Bales is finally coming home. Enrolled at a new school, she plans to reinvent herself with a new look, new friends, and a second chance to be just like everyone else. But the kids who drove her over the edge aren’t through with her yet.
And one of her new friends has an agenda all his own.
During the day, the halls of Battlefield High will echo with their screams.
Writer, teacher, world's best uncle, adoptive dad to Shazam the cat, I am the gatekeeper to your nightmares and dreams, weaver of tales fantastic and unimaginable ... or some stuff like that.
This sequel to The Devils in the Dark looks at what happens when the mysterious Jack Maddox starts hunting the "Facebook Fifteen" who pushed lonely high school student Audrey Bales to attempt suicide. Strong, suspenseful story, but definitely a "middle book." I would start with the first book, and be warned this one ends on a cliffhanger, so if you become invested in the characters, you'll want to continue on to the final chapter to find out what happens.

MY REVIEW: In the second installment of Marcus Damanda’s ‘The Devil in Miss Drake’s Class’ series, the story picks up right where it left off.
Audrey Bales is both excited and nervous to leave the hospital and return to her “real life”. High school is overwhelming for the best of us, but being known as the girl pushed to suicide by the “Facebook Fifteen” makes her wonder if she’ll ever be able to fit in.
Luckily, Audrey seems to have little trouble meshing with her new classmates. She even makes a few friends in Monica, a popular cheerleader’s, crowd, and with another new kid named Jack. Things seem to really be looking up for Audrey, and she’s determined not to take it for granted for a second.
Thanks to her bullies at her old high school, though, Audrey’s life is far from peaceful. And one of her new friends has sinister plans of his own.
I liked this book just as much as the first one. This is such a fun series. Damanda has crafted a world that it’s easy to get immersed in. I thoroughly enjoyed the paranormal aspect of this book. It feels to me like it’s ramping up from the first novel, and that’s a good thing!
One of the things I liked so much about the first book was how the paranormal plotline was not the sole focus of the story. The same can be said for this book even though it’s gathering momentum. (I’m guessing for the epic conclusion!) Somehow, Damanda has created a story that is both firmly in reality and the supernatural.
I am so pumped to see what happens in the next book, but this is one of those series that you don’t really want to end. It’s a bookworm’s conundrum!
As Jack is setting up revenge for Audrey, she is simply trying to get on with her life. And despite daily occurrences that make it seem impossible, she is doing a pretty good job of it. She has made some friends, maybe even a boyfriend, has found a teacher to trust in, and is doing her best to forget about the FB 15. The hard part is several of them are at her new school. Lucky for her, Jack knows who they are.
This book is more nuanced and at a deeper level than the first. Audrey does not know who Jack really is and the lengths he will go to punish the FB 15. There is darkness swirling around her and it keeps trying to suck her in. I'm rooting for her, though, and so are many others. You will, too, once you listen to the first book. I am on to the last in this series and can't wait to see what happens! I just hope Audrey makes it out alive and with her mind intact.
Jessica McEvoy's narration fits this material to a T. It is perfect on 1.5 speed

A wonderful continuation of the Devil in Miss Drake's Class series! For anyone discovering the series at that point, this is not a standalone book. It won't make much sense at all if you haven't read the first book. It's great to see Audrey getting out of the hospital and starting over at a new school. She meets plenty of new kids, but unfortunately for her hasn't escaped the Facebook Fifteen. The observer is more fleshed out in this book and really makes an impact. Loved it and can't wait for the final book!
The second part of the dark and intense thriller got me even more invested in the story. Same as with the first part I couldn't turn pages fast enough to find out what will happen next. I can't wait to read next part and see for myself what the conclusion of Audrey's story will be. I hope the justice will be served. If you read the first part this is a must read to fully get what's happening.
This is the 5th book I've read written by Marcus Damanda; he has done an excellent job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

What I Loved The story of Audrey Bales and the “Facebook Fifteen” continues in this second installment in horrifying ways. Audrey is out of the hospital and immersing herself back into the real world, which as a reader made me a little scared for her but she definitely seemed to handle things with flying colors! I love Audrey so much and in this part she proved to me again why that statement is so true. Like any teenage girl there are a few setbacks once Audrey comes back, but she still continues to move forward and take each day as it comes. Not only do we see the progression of Audrey since she is out, we get to see what’s going on in the Face Fifteen lives’ as well, and boy oh boy do they have some hard times coming for them. I don’t want to give too much away but I will say I will never look at fireflies the same way again. We also get to meet the mysterious new figure in Audrey’s life that from the outside has securely planted himself in Audrey’s life in a positive way, but on the inside eats rotten food and likes to harm the people who made Audrey suffer. There is so much going on in this story I don’t even know where to begin, but I will say I loved every minute of it.
Not So Much The overall plot continues really well in this story and at times it horrified me or just plain scared the crap out of me, which was awesome. I guess my only complaint would be that the figures we got to see a lot of in book one are not as prominent in book two and that made me kind of sad. We get to see Gale a little, but I would’ve liked maybe a little bit more from her point of view, towards the end I felt like she was forgot about more than anything.
Audrey Bales is recovering, or trying to recover, from two things: a failed suicide attempt and the extreme bullying that led to that attempt. She starts attending a new school minus her former emo attire, but there are two entities that won’t let her be.
The first one is the Facebook Fifteen, the group of students who bullied her online and in person. Their actions led to suspensions, expulsions, tense family scenes, and all sorts of other things. They want to make Audrey pay for exposing their dirty bullying secret to the public. The second entity is a disgusting, persistent demon who changes shape. He walks among the students and befriends Audrey. He looks like a normal teenage boy, but there’s nothing normal about him. He wants to ensure that the Facebook Fifteen pays for what they did to Audrey.
In this second book of the series, we finally get to meet Miss Drake. She didn’t have a huge role, but the ending promised we’d see more of her. There were many switches in viewpoints, but they flowed easily. The demonic, shape-shifting, insect-filled, rotten meat, and murder scenes were spine-tingling. Damanda is like the Stephen King of YA. I can’t wait to read the next installment.
You know, this book lulls you into a false sense of security. You may think that Audrey is doing ok; is getting her life back; is returning to being a normal teenager.
But…..
She is really just the piggy in the middle. The ham in the sandwich. The rose between…..ah you know what I mean. But its the fact that she is so unaware of this which provides the tension against the other ‘activities’ which are going on.
And the author is very clever in the way the tension is increased. It’s a bit insidious really; pervasive. And I liked it!
Furthermore, the introduction of Miss Drake is a treat. Let me clarify – I don’t like her. At all. But she is very well written, and her somewhat misplaced sense of her own ability reminds me of some of my own teachers (from way, way back in the day)
This is a very strong sequel to Devils in the Dark. I really enjoyed it. I hope you do too!

The continuation of Audrey's story. You can't help but cheer for Audrey. She's getting her life back together, making friends, dating and generally being successful, even after that horrible bullying incident in which she nearly died. But trouble is brewing. There's a new kid at school with her and he's not what he seems. He's hurting the hurters, hating the haters, and bullying the bullies - and all so subtly, so quietly, that no one even suspects the cute kid who's got a thing for Audrey Bales. When you're a recovering victim of a vicious cyberbullying attack, it can be kind of satisfying to have a boyfriend who has a dark side. Damanda continues his masterly tale!

This picked up right where the first book left off. It does give a little recap/background information, but I would definitely advise reading the first book before this one. It seems to be a series that needs to be read in order.
I am enjoying the series. Some things that I wasn't sure about in the first book were resolved or addressed in this book. Like the first book, I would have liked this to have more of an ending instead of a cliff hanger, but that's just because I have a hard time waiting for the next book
I have never read from this author before. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book or when I took it on. But I can now say I am in love with the skills this author has. This book was .... just.. WOW!! It hit on reality, not just a storyline, not just a thought, but reality! I don't want to go much further and risk any spoilers so I will leave it at.. If you haven't read this book yet... YOU REALLY NEED TOO! Absolutely loved it!
This book ramps up the suspense from the first book. Audrey is unknowingly caught in between two competing forces, one trying to bring her down and one defending her. I love how the book really shows the both the good and evil sides of human nature. It's hard to put this one down.
