Un amore difficile

Rate this book

Rhys Redding is a carry-over from the first book - LIGHTNING. The story opens as the ship is being blown apart in the waters off the North Carolina coast. The Union is firing upon this blockade runner, trying to shorten the war by depriving the South of needed supplies. It is February 1865.

The next chapter opens in Libby Prison located in Richmond, Virginia -- a Confederate Prison. It may be the end of the Civil War but these injured men are too ill to know or care. Rhys notices a woman (Mrs. Susannah Fallon) who visits her brother, Wesley, most days and tends to his needs. She also gives water to Rhys. Susannah keeps reminding her brother about the ranch they left and his intended bride, Erin.

Wes wants no part of any of it; he's lost a leg and has decided that he just wants to die. Because Susannah is the widow of a famous, heroic Confederate officer, she gets written permission to take her brother away from the prison. Since the war will end soon, Richmond will be in chaos - Susannah needs to remove him immediately.

She offers to get a release for Rhys if he will accompany them to their ranch in Texas. She knows that there is no way she can manage a depressed, severely injured soldier on the long journey.

Rhys has a very important reason for wanting to escape prison before the Union army arrives and discovers him. He is known as a renegade runner - although he is Welsh, punishment will be severe.

Rhys agrees though he is in poor condition himself. But, Susannah senses his strength, although she has no idea who Rhys really is. Rhys proves his value quickly. Susannah bought one of the last wagons and horses (both in awful condition) that are left in Richmond. There are plenty who want to steal them. They try but Rhys is canny enough to outwit them until they can get to a regiment of Confederate soldiers.

Half of the book is about the arduous trip to Texas; the last half is about the trouble they encounter when they arrive. There are those trying to steal property. Unbelievably, the ranch thieves are more dangerous than the awful trip to Texas.

This is my 24th book by Patricia Porter and she does not have a clue about "how to write a bad book"! The plotting, character development and pacing are wonderful. This is the second book from the 2 book series: Civil War.

This is the very first time that I have read a book of this Arthour and I have to say that I love the book. the story of Rhys Redding touch my heart how sad his life was with no family to love him his own mother hated him called him the seed of the devil his childhood was very sad and lonely everybody mistreat him he made himself a promise no one was going to mystery him and he became a very powerful man with money a very cold man with no heart I guess you can't blame him for the life that he had.Susannah Fallon was looking for her husband who went to fight in the war she found out he died imprisoned that's how he found her brother and Rays he was making believe he was a lieutenant but soon he told her the truth in the hospital bed she was making plans to escape with both her brother Rays. I have to say that she act more like a whore from the beginning he almost threw herself to him but he keeps declining I'm sorry but she acting like a hoe need to give her self a little bit more respect for the love of God even he told her to she was making it too easy for him lol I'm sorry but it's true in almost all the book she was thinking of having him between her legs as the man was going for 2 days she want to be just looking outside the window saying how her body was on fire I'm sorry but she should give herself a little more respect I'm not going to lie I do not like her she's too easy other than that I'm definitely going to keep this book, going on my bookshelf I totally fell in love with Rhys I gave this book four stars.

A hero who isn’t a hero becomes a hero. A very good book. It’s set at the end of the American Civil War. I thoroughly loved this book! I have found Patricia Potter to be one of my most favorite authors. I’ve read some of her Scottish historical, and now two books that are American Western historical romance. This book kept me reading and was very hard to put down. I highly recommend this book and this author.

The book is good, but I could not enjoy the flow because it was constantly interrupted by sexual tension between the characters. It was too soon, too often, and added nothing to the story.
