Cliques, stereotypes, popularity contests, and drama. Some say it’s just another day in high school. For Lauren, it’s the Rebellion Project…
Sara currently a Biology Major with a minor in Environmental Science and another in Spanish at James Madison University, and spends her time writing, studying, and ghost hunting. While writing is a great hobby that turned into a passion to share with others, school is her priority.
I finished it but, it was really hard to. The book was OK. Like I said, I finished it but I think I skimmed the 40% of the book. I would not recommend this book to a friend. Sorry, b\c I HATE to leave bad reviews, but this book didn't do anything for me...no feels...no nothing really.
During her life up to High School , Lauren Scott has always meticulously followed the rules and has been known as the GG aka Goodie-Good and is the type of person who will tell tales if other's aren't following the rules. She has always believed as her parents and father especially taught her that rules are important and must be followed. This is all going to come crashing down though as she arrives home to find her father with another woman. Definitely not the type who has been practising what he preaches and this throws her whole life existence and what she believes out the window. This was the final straw for her mother who knew something was up and her parents get a divorce. During this time , the school jerk Kayden makes her life hell as he is the one who started the nickname and now told her whole life story to the school. When a tragedy strikes and Lauren is sent back to live with her dad, she decides that it's her time to shine and starts what's known as The Rebellion Project with the help of her best friend and the most rebellious person she knows : Kayden. He promises to help her out on one condition - he would be the one to pop her cherry so to speak. Lauren reluctantly agrees and therefore the story begins "The Rebellion Project". We kind of have a fair idea of what happens as we have read many of the good girl and bad boy stories in the past, but what will happen when we discover that it was Kayden's mother and yes, she is married to that was the "other woman" - the one who broke up Lauren's parents marriage ? Will this be the end of the Rebellion Project before it even has started or will it spark something else ? Find out in this fun YA Transformation Novel and a Self-Journey to discovering who you really are as a person and not what your parents have defined you as .
This book would be a great book for a teenager. It's all about a girl trying to please her parents. She has to be good and act a certain way. She is super smart so ended up jumping 2 grades so the high schoolers make fun of her and call her GG. Short for goodie goodie because she always tells on people and never gets into any trouble. Her biggest tormenter is Kayden. The high school bad boy with killer looks. Her last year in school, Lauren and her best friend Parker decide its time for her to start to rebel. She starts with breaking some small rules but when she walks in on her dad doing something he shouldn't she blows up. She has a great relationship with her mother and all her mom wants is for Lauren to live her life and take chances. Tragedy happens and it causes her to take her life into perspective and just try to find herself. She ends up doing a full transformation and Kayden is her main coach through it all. They fake date and everything. I don't want to give to much away so I will leave the end of this review saying..... This book is about breaking rules, finding yourself, love, family issues, loss and above all living your life the way you want not doing what someone else thinks you should do.
3.5 stars I really enjoy YA romance books as an adult. I think it is because there is no time wasted on finding various euphemisms for body parts and instead a lot more time is spent on my favorite part of romance - the relationship development, the angst, the excitement of first love, the banter.
Lauren is known in school as "GG", the goodie-goodie. She is known for always following the rules in all aspects of life. But what if she finds out that breaking the rules and rebelling a little bit can be a freeing experience? After Lauren experiences a few dramatic changes in her life she decides to "explore the world of rebellion". Her biggest tormenter in school is recruited to help her with this.
I thought it had a good plot, interesting characters, and a nice pace. I would have liked a bit more story development. There were some serious events that happened throughout the story or conflict that arose between characters and at times I felt like they moved through them or resolved them so quickly that my emotions did not have the time to catch up. I have never read Sara Schoen before but, overall I enjoyed this book and I would definitely read more from her.
I wanted to like this book, but It just didn't work. The bullying, the plan & all the stuff in between just seemed hashed together. I can't figure out why the main characters were enemies or why they would work together after being enemies
Book Title: The Rebellion Project Book Author: Sara Schoen Source: Kindle Unlimited and I heard about it on Facebook Rating: 5 stars
This novel is recommended to teens and older.
There is always a price to pay and for Lauren – it’s a big one. Her virginity.
I bet that grabbed your attention. Well Lauren went through a lot of big events at the beginning of the story which made her want to become a rebel and learn to stand up for herself and she learned to do it from her high school enemy-Kayden. It’s your typical high school drama and fun to read.
It made me giddy at my own memories of high school. I didn’t get any tattoos, but I did dye my hair purple and green once. The best on me was red.
Anyway, it’s a good contemporary romance with a lot of fun scenes. Read it and have fun.

This book was awesome!! Sara has a way with words and weaving a story that just keeps you pulled in and wanting more. This story follows Lauren Scott aka GG (good girl), the sweet young girl who skipped two grades, seventh and eighth, to go to high school early. A girl who is teased mercilessly for being a goodie two shoes, a virgin, a tattle tale and a number of other things she tries to just ignore. She has been pushed to be perfect by an almost tyrant of a father and a misguided by still loving mother. One day she decides to listen to her best and mainly only friend Parker, so instead of sitting down to do her homework, she goes and watches TV and texts with Parker the rest of the evening. Realizing that one little rebellion will not result in an immediate punishment Lauren thrills in the excitement and so does Parker who immediately invites herself over the next day after school to “study”, not knowing the trouble they were about to walk into. “That was so close,” I whispered excitedly as I jumped with joy. We may not be out of trouble yet, but I couldn’t be more thrilled. He used to hear me getting out of bed when I was little and had to use the bathroom. I was never doing anything wrong, but no matter how hard I tried, I could never make it past my dad without alerting him. “Really? I couldn’t tell,” Parker stated sarcastically. “This is the most rebellion you’ve done since birth and you haven’t done anything except skip homework and sneak into your own house.” She shook her head and scoffed as we made our way down the hallway. “You’re supposed to sneak out of your house before you have to learn to sneak back in.” “That’s not true. There was that one time when I stole the book from that used bookstore across town,” I reminded her, turning around to look at her.” One act of rebellion is all it takes to turn Lauren’s entire world upside down. She catches her father cheating on her mother and thus begins a whirlwind of events that end in tragedy. No longer believing her in fathers’ perfect world Lauren wants to learn to rebel and live her life to the fullest so she turns to the one person that she never thought she would give the time of day too. Her biggest tormenter, Kayden Daniels. Kayden was never one who followed the rules, sexy, smart and a complete jerk but Parker felt he would be the one who could truly help Lauren become more than that perfect little goody two shoes everyone had always known her as. Kayden accepts the challenge to change little miss GG on the terms that if he does this for her and changes her that he gets to take her purity, her virginity. She balks but she finally agrees to the terms and they get started. It starts with a makeover, new hair, new clothes, then its new tattoos. Then it starts evolving into dates and seems like it is turning into more, but Lauren feels like Kayden is still holding something back from her. Is Kayden holding back something from her or is she seeing things that are not really there? Will their love prevail or will Lauren give Kayden everything she has only to get burned in the end? Read it and find out. I give this book a HUGE 5 cupcakes, it was a great read!!! ~Melissa~
Taylor Henderson: What is one word that describes this novel? Inspiring! Schoen weaves a great story in the Rebellion Project. With lots of drama, coming of age experiences, and new love, this novel was a great teen read that kept my interest piqued throughout. I enjoyed Lauren's transformation into who she really wanted to be, and I even fell for Kayden a little in the process. The novel has a good mix of romance and that feeling that comes with finding yourself in your teen years. Quick and fun, clean read that I would recommend to anyone interested in young adult novels.
Jennifer Weiser: I have to tell you hands down, this BOOK IS AMAZING! I absolutely loved it! There were times I wanted to punch Kayden, but I loved him and I just couldn’t bring myself to think too poorly of him! The chemistry of the book is fantastic as well as Lauren’s need to rebel. I truly believe that almost every girl out there can relate to the topics in this book. The need to prove they are more then a title given to them, the need to prove something to themselves. I loved this book and I’m so in awe over it! As a beta, I’m not sure what kind of feedback you are looking for, so let me know if you want more then just my overall fan girl squeals!
Honestly though, this book—FANTASTIC.
Here’s my small beta critique. :) I loved the pacing. I was instantly hooked with the prologue and Lauren’s story. I became lost in Kayden and the hard layers he guards, but also the soft side that only comes out when he wants it to. I disliked her father. Ugh. He frustrated me and his need to want Lauren to protect him by lying. Also believing he had a right to decide the outcome of his daughters life. I understand parents desire to want the best for their kids, but there were times I wanted to strangle her father (which I think is the element you were going for…) The ending… OH, :) *squeals* I freaking love Kayden! He’s complete transformation from douche canoe to the boy who has fallen for the girl who had always played by the rule! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE and the end, that kiss, his confession of loving her…OMG. Kayden has become my new book boyfriend. Freaking love him. Can’t tell you that enough!!! This book! This book has left me in a book hangover and the best kind. The one that makes me want to go back and read it over and over and over again. I can’t wait for this to be published because I want to buy it in multiple formats. Seriously. I love this book!
Haley Despard: Thank you so much for the chance to beta read Rebellion. I enjoyed the book and really connected with the characters, especially Lauren. There was a lot you did right with this book, which hopefully is an encouragement!

The Rebellion Project by Sara Schoen is a standalone novel . Lauren Scott is a normal , quiet teenager . She makes good grades and is always on her best behavior . She tells adults when the other students are doing things that they shouldn’t be doing , like cutting class , and other delinquent behaviors . With her actions , the other students dub her goodie-goodie , or GG . She cannot seem to do anything to change this . He goodie-goodie nature will not allow for her to be able to do what she needs to do in order to become the person that she wants to be . Even to the point where she is currently looking into schools that her parents approve of and she is looking into studying to be a doctor , which is something that she does not want to do at all . She continues to be the good girl , and to follow the rules through it all , until one day she walks in on her father and his mistress .
Kayden Daniels has been the bane of her existence since the beginning of high school . Lauren and Kayden were friends in elementary school , but due to her goodie-goodie nature , Kayden has fallen into steps with his fellow students and teases Lauren the most . Will Lauren go through with her change ? Will she be able to give her virginity to Kayden if everything works out ?
This novel by Sarah Schoen is very well written . She does well in her explanation of the high school experience as told by the goodie-good girl . I would rate this book a four star novel . I would recommend this novel to anyone that does not have a real experience as to what it is to be on the wrong end of bullying . Also , I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys a good YA novel.
This book started out kind of slow and rough but then had me in tears while connecting me to the protagonist plight of wanting to be free and understood. Seriously I was caught crying and it was not pretty. The story deals with bullying, self improvement, trust, family and making amends, oh and of course finding love.
Know as the goodie-goodie who follows the rules and rats on her peers, seventeen year old Lauren Scott is constantly taunted by her classmates especially a certain boy named Kayden. For Lauren school is hell but knows the way she lives and behaves is how to best please her parents. But when Lauren finds out her father is a liar and it breaks her family apart. After a series of heartbreaking events, Lauren decides that all those rules that kept her in line were worthless and chooses to change her reputation. To go from good girl to rebel one boy is the perfect tutor Kayden Daniels, who is every teachers worst nightmare. Kayden accepts her proposal to turn her rebel on one condition and it's something Lauren may not be willing to give up.
Overall, great teen read with an uplifting ending. Lauren's life seemed like absolute crap before she decides to break the rules. The only saving grace in all her school terror is her BFF Parker, who is the best girlfriend that sticks-up for her. I love YA books that have girl BFFs, a girl needs a girl to spill her issues to especially when a boy comes into her life. Kayden was at first a complete jerk but he changes your opinion completed by doing the sweetest things. The epilogue was a very cute way to bring the story to finish as well as bring Lauren's life lessons full circle.
**I received a free copy in return for an honest review**
I had the distinct pleasure of beta reading this book for the author before submission to the publisher. Sara Schoen is a bright young talent to be watched for. Rebellion Project is the story of a girl who lived by all the rules set for her until the person who set the rules betrayed her trust. Unfortunately (yet fortunately for the author), the premise resonated with me way too well. Certain similarities in this book to my own life were almost uncanny, but that just made it so much more real and relatable to me. Lauren and Kayden are a positively adorable duo. I couldn’t help but get wrapped up in their romance. Kayden’s reckless spirit and Lauren’s hesitancy made for the perfect combination of drama and chemistry throughout the book. At times, Lauren’s goody-goody (GG) nature got a little bit annoying, but I think that was intentional. Their growth throughout the book is parallel: Kayden learning how to love, and Lauren learning how to let herself life. At times, Kayden’s recklessness got them into trouble, but the way he tried to protect and shield her from the consequences of his actions was really sweet and endeared him to me. Let me also say I’m a huge fan of the blue hair. I was disappointed that it wasn’t on the cover. Luckily a teaser was made that satisfied my craving. If you’re a fan of high school bad boy reformations, you’ll love this story. Five silver stars!
Rebellion Project by Sara Schoen is a good book. It is very well written. This is a great young adult book that has no outright sex.
Lauren has been bullied most of her life. She was smart, smarter than most her peers so it allowed her to skip a few grades. Now in her senior year she just wants to get this year over with so she can move on with her life. Lauren has always been the perfect daughter. She follows all the rules, never lies, and always does as her parents say. Until something changes and Lauren decides to fight to get her life back.
Kayden was always the bane of Lauren’s existence. He picked on her relentlessly. Until one day, he tells Lauren’s biggest secret ever. Kayden knows he’s hurt Lauren, so, now it’s his turn to make it up to her, or is it.
This book started out slow for me, but about 30 percent of the way through it I realized why. I too was picked on in high school. No matter what I did the relentless torture did not stop. Sara Schoen does such a great job expressing Lauren’s feelings that I found myself right back in that place. Once I got past those feelings, I was able to open up and take this book on as I felt is should be received. This is a book I would have no problem with my child reading.
The Rebellion Project is the perfect Y/A coming of age story of Lauren Scott, a teenager in high school dealing with all the drama that goes along with it, as well as having a goodie-goodie reputation for following the rules and reporting those who DON'T. Kayden Daniels, a friend to Lauren in middle school but in high school, after Lauren reported him for his bad-boy deeds and got him in trouble, he's her worst antagonist!
When Lauren decides to try to shed her good-girl persona, her best (and only) friend Parker Collins tries to get her to loosen up and enjoy life a little. It becomes obvious that Parker can't do what needs to be done, so she enlists the help of one Kayden Daniels! The only thing he wants in return is Lauren's virginity...
After a series of twists and turns, drama and angst, the transformation is complete and I really did fall in love with these characters!
Will Lauren go through with the "deal", will Kayden turn out to be the bad influence or will he change every bit as much as Lauren?
This is a young adult book and it speaks to the ups and downs young adults face. This isn't just about high school bullies but more importantly it's about how young adults view themselves as theory move to college and the work force.
Lauren is a normal girl. High grades, living up to her parents expectations and afraid to be selfish and follow her own dreams. Insert popular guy at school who can use all of the things Lauren struggles with to make himself look better and more popular.
This story was tough for me in the beginning but hang in there because a few chapters in you get it. Kayden, our HS heartthrob, has deeper layers than what it appears. He shows everyone how change is an option IF you choose to take it. I like that the underlying message to young readers is that this too share pass. Find your inner strength and hang onto those you can trust. The world may show you pain but you have to keep your heart open to forgive even those closest to you.
What is one word that describes this novel? Inspiring! Schoen has created realistic character and a good story line in the Rebellion Project. The novel certainly has no shortage on drama, coming of age experiences, and new love. The Rebellion Project was a great teen read that kept my interest piqued throughout. I enjoyed Lauren’s transformation into who she really wanted to be, and I even fell for Kayden a little in the process. Although I enjoyed the main characters, my favorite character was Lauren’s best friend, Parker.
This novel has a good mix of romance and that feeling that comes with finding yourself in your teen years. It was a quick and fun, clean read that I would recommend to anyone interested in young adult novels. I would read more from this author in the future.
An incredible and witty YA that not only steals your heart but leaves you with such amazing book feels! Such an epic and heart clenching story! Author Sara Schoen steals the show with this fast paced, awe inspiring book. Not only is it relatable, its beautifully written. Sara, tells a story that not only captures your attention but also pulls at your heart strings. I absolutely loved this book! Filled with such intense chemistry and truth, Lauren is not only a strong character lead, but one that had me rooting for the whole way through!
Fun, incredibly moving and amazing, this book is the perfect late night read that you won't be able to put down! Romance, rebellion and quirk, The Rebellion Project is a new fav and one I'll read over and over again!
This book was awesome. Lauren is the child every parent wishes they had. She gets good grades, listens, no talking back or anything. There's a guy named Kayden that makes fun of her for years. When she catches her dad cheating. Things change in her life and a unexpected tragedy changes things. She begins to lean on Kayden for help to change her reputation but he only wants one thing in return. She agrees but will Kayden fall in love with her or will someone try to jeopardize their relationship
I have to say I love Sara's books. She's such an amazing author. Can't wait to see what else she has in store for her readers
A really good coming of age story. I enjoyed it. The characters were believable and although there was romance, it was more about their individual journeys which I liked because I'm not always a huge romance reader. But even though I say that, I must admit I was caught up in the drama and wanted to smack Kayden a few times. I liked the main character Lauren, but I liked the secondary characters just as much which made me happy. I usually get bored with books at the end, but this book just got better and better and the ending was perfect. As usual, Schoen produced a good story that left me satisfied and craving more books by her! Nicely done!!!
A sweet funny story about self discovery. Lauren was stuck afraid to take a risk and tormented by her peers for her good girl persona, but an arrangement with one of her tormentors changes all of that. Kayden is kind of jerk at first teasing her constantly but early on it is clear to see that he's more than just the class clown. As the project goes on their relationship changes and they balance each other out making it clear they belong together. This book was charming and sweet showing you that sometimes a little rebellion can change your life for the better
Rebellion project 3.5 stars Lauren an all around perfect student and daughter, followed the rules in everything she did until the one person she looks to for the rules breaks them and betrays her. Lauren enters a phase of rebellion all be it starting out small she finds a sense of freedom and a new relationship sparks between her and the one person who has made her life hard Kayden, the story is full of emotion and angst that every young adult can relate too. The story is well written and flows nicely enough along unfortunately I didn't fully connect to the story to mark any higher.
I absolutely loved devouring this book! The story kept my attention from start to finish.
I love stories where the heroine ends up with her tormenter, or in this case bully. Because of it, she becomes better than ever and the bully can chuck his ways for a better outlook. As is what happens here.
There was a lot of drama and angst, but that is what truly kept my rapt attention.
In this book you have Lauren this girl who follows the rules. Then you have Kayden who likes to break the rules. After Lauren catches her father cheating she wants a change from the strict rules she had grown up with. So she enlists Kaydens help since he is know for breaking the rules. Add colored hair, new attitude and a fake boyfriend and you have a great story.
Lauren has always been the good girl and followed the rules which has made her the prime target of ridicule by the resident high school bad boy Kayden. When Lauren's life is turned upside down she sets out on a mission of self discovery. This book is filled with laughter and sadness but will definitely keep you reading. This is a cute story about being yourself. This is a must read.
Really Good Book! Teenage angst mixed with drama, romance, and maturity inducing situations. Happy, hopeful, and sad moments with periods of embarrassment and bff's.
The reason I have want to read this, for a long time, is because of the first book. One of my absolute faves!
But this one… ehh Not so much. Reasons why: —> The writing was overwhelming. I feel like it was just overcomplicated and pointless —> The plots were boring, cut short often and snippy. And then the resolution was the sameeverytime! Tedious and monotonous!! That was the main reason I think, why it took me so long to get into and finish the book (because I didn't want to) — —> There was very little banter :’( —>The dialogue was repetitive —> The ending, it was just so conspicuous, it was ridiculous! I felt like it was written by a very young teenager and whilst that may cut it for some 10-13 year olds, it doesn’t for me. And I’ll have you know, Maddison’s story is just so much better.
So… I hated this. But not the second one. So… I don’t recommend this (DON’T READ IT) but I absolutely recommend the second one (READ IT!!) After all— this. I highly advise you to read the second one. Xoxo…
Disappointing. Could have been so much better but I do have issues with the falling for your bully trope which where magnified here. Kayden is a giant dick. It could have been ok if he was just one of the crowd but he is actually the one who led the campaign of bullying against Lauren for years and he never seems at all sorry for anything he did. Then even tho it doesn’t excuse it, given how much he helps her during the project and how much he seems to care it could have been ok if the reason he got involved is because he secretly likes her but that was not the case. His reason for agreeing, the price he asked, the years of bullying and meanness make Kayden an awful person that I don’t want to see get a HEA. I want Lauren to take the good, learn from her experiences and meet someone else more worthy in college and for Kayden to recognise it was his own thoughtless and cruel actions that lost him someone he had grown to love and become to be a kinder, better person.
