Lia has her perfect life mapped out after college–including her long term boyfriend Chris. But that will mean leaving her best friend Ethan behind, so how can that be perfect? Lia wants them both, but when things heat up, she’ll have to choose where her true future lies.
Forbidden passion is sparking a fire… and MAKING HER MELT.
This was so HOT!! and so short. At 74 pages or so, don't expect a lot of explaining or background. But do expect some serious friends to lovers! Lia was best friends with two guys, two guys who both wanted her. But after years of being with Chris, she realizes she's always wanted Ethan. It isn't as crude as it sounds, at all. The author is convincing with why Lia stayed with someone she probably shouldn't have but of course had this been longer, it would have been better explained. One thing I've noticed about Amber Lin's male characters is that they're intensely masculine. Ethan's 'voice' was desperately aching for Lia and it was so tangible but so obviously in a male sort of way, not in a way written by a female. That to me is talent. My favorite all time author, Lisa Kleypas has that down to a tee. Anyways, a sweet, hot and short Christmas read that can be gobbled up in no time! Loved it.

This was the first erotic book I've ever read. I read this book because it was free on Amazon and it was short. I liked it, but they made random parts of the story erotic and that was weird. I felt like there was a little bit of a weird flow to the story.
I absolutely loved the beginning of this story. It depicts a very conflicted and tortured Ethan, desperately pining for his best friend's girlfriend, and the events that followed had me really feeling for him! (I have a "thing" for the tortured hero, and Ethan was absolutely PERFECT in that role!)
Amber is a very talented author in the sense that the story kept flowing smoothly. I couldn't put it down! The narration and writing style of the story was great! The voices of the characters were very real and believable. I hope Lia and Ethan are mentioned in the next book because I want to know more about what happened with them!

Making Her Melt was an ok novella. Though, I don't feel that the novella form was the right choice for the story that was trying to be told. I was engaged enough with the story, and in part with the characters, but I felt that there was a lack of depth to the characters and a glossing over of events. Most of the time, things were being told, but there was little showing in the novella. Also, because the characters weren't given time to develop, I felt that their actions didn't feel natural or unnatural as I read them. They mainly felt out of place and awkward because from paragraph to paragraph things wouldn't seem to fit together for them.
I think that there's a good story in here, but maybe if it was written with the intent of being a novel, the author could have satisfied me a little more. There's another book set in the town of Dearling, Texas (which the reader only gets a minimal glimpse of here) and I might check it out to see what Lin does with a novel. I'm a fan of small town settings, and maybe that will be more to my liking.
Even though I didn't really enjoy this one much, it was a fast read, and I know there are readers who'll enjoy it more than I did for a short afternoon read. There's definitely something to it that kept me reading.
This one drew me in from the beginning. It wasn't super long, and I could have done with more story, but it was still a good story. Chris, Lia and Ethan were close friends since high school. Before deploying with the military with Ethan, Chris asked Lia to be his girlfriend and she accepted. Chris basically asked before Ethan could, even though Ethan was already head over heels for her. But he thought Chris and Lia should be together, so he backed off. He was the friend who took Lia places when Chris was busy -- the "stand-in boyfriend" -- but one night, everything comes to a head. Ethan can't stand being the stand-in and not being able to touch Lia, Lia has confusing feelings about Ethan, though she knows she's still with Chris, and Chris must sense an undercurrent between his best friend and his girlfriend because he sort of ends up punishing Lia for it. He's not cruel or anything, but it's like he feels the need to claim her, to prove she is his, so he starts having sex with her doggy-style on the bed. About that time, Ethan returns to their apartment to return Lia's purse. He walks in on them and Chris basically invites him to join them. And he does... and then moves out of the area the next day without telling anyone goodbye. He couldn't have known that Lia and Chris broke up the next day or that Lia came to find him... She eventually finds him where he moved, but mixed signals send her away again... until she orchestrates a situation to prove she's ready for him. It was super sweet how much Ethan loved Lia, and it was sweet to see that it was reciprocated. Not a very long story, but full of emotion and steam.
I feel bad because I hated this book. The h has 2 male “best friends” she has been dating one for years, lives with him, plans to marry him and friendzones the other who’s crazy about her. Then after a bizarre night at a tree walking Xmas event with the friend zone guy she feels a kind of spark and returns home. Has sex with her boyfriend who has just proposed when friendzone walks in. This leads to a very awkward kind of but not really threesome with them both dumps the boyfriend of years and chases after the other guy. The only reason this book gets a star is the dog. Sorry.

This sexy holiday novella is the story of Lia, Ethan and Chris. While Lia has been friends with both, and is with Chris in a relationship, she realizes that she has feelings for Ethan. At the same time she and Chris realize that things aren't working out for them. There isn't any cheating, but there is some seriously steamy scenes (including a threesome) as these characters figure out where their future will lie. Because the story is quite short there isn't a lot of character development but there is enough of a background explanation to understand their decisions. The emotions of the characters are well written and I liked how things turned out in the end. 4 stars.
A short, sexy read, of what happens when two friends get together then let another one in on their relationship, but who does our female really want to end up with? This was a fast read it is quite short, but be warned if you do not like reading about 'couples time' this book is not for you as it starts out with a few sexy situations! Then it becomes a romance story where Lia has to decide who she wants more annoying Chris or the hot Ethan, can you tell which one i prefer - yes it is Ethan and his dog Oreo.Read the book and decide yourself but i have a feeling you may agree with me.
This was a fast paced story about three friends and how they change when they graduate. Chris and Lia are dating and Chris has different plans than Lia and one night everything changes when Ethan can't take just being friends with Lia. Ethan doesn't do anything at first to jeopardize the friendship, but Chris pushes things that night. The next day Ethan leaves town and Lia breaks up with Chris. Lia tries to talk to Ethan, but he brushes her off. Lia finally gets Ethan to talk to her and things have changed between these two!
This was a great short read. All the emotions were there with the love triangle of three best friends. It was beautifully written, showing just how much Ethan loved her, but had to walk away. Also explaining Chris and Lias relationship, how it had changed over time, love replaced with familiarity and convenience. It was great to see Lia take the initiative and the pursue Ethan, following him and becoming part of his life again. It was a beautifully sweet read.
I loved reading this book! The ending could be a bit more detailed and told from Ethan's perspective. After all the buildup through the story about how he's wanted her for years the end was a bit disappointing once he fulfilled his dream.
I kept hoping for something redeeming about these characters but nothing came of it. This book reads like a rough draft. Heck I have read better written fiction online. Sorry this book feels incomplete even for a romance freebie.
I would have liked more character depth and development. It was an okay story. I feel a bit off because the story and the blurb don't exactly match up.
One woman…Two men…One’s a lover…One’s a friend… This week, I have chosen MAKING HER MELT written by Amber Lin as the novel review selection This short erotic new adult novel offers its readers a sumptuous love triangle between three life-long friends. This quick read is full of emotional twist sand turns, sizzling sex and sensual desire.
For years Ethan has been in love with Lia. The only problem is she is his best-friend’s girlfriend. Unable to endure his role as a stand-in boyfriend a moment longer, he succumbs to an evening of forbidden pleasure. An evening he is quick to regret.
Lia thought she had her life mapped out. Great boyfriend. Perfect job. The only thing standing in her way was her feelings for Ethan, or at least that’s what she thought. With visions of a political career in mind, Chris, her live-in boyfriend expects her to leave it all behind. She can’t. She won’t.
MAKING HER MELT is, in my opinion, is a well-written account of how a single moment can change the lives of three friends. Happy Reading!
Great book, short and to the point, understandably the conflict Lia had between Ethan and Chris. She relied on Chris and Ethan, but Ethan was scared and didn't know how to show his feelings towards Lia. Was alittle shocked at what actually went down, thought things would go a different way. Enjoyed it none the less. Great read for anyone interested in a short story.
I looked at this book - and the blurb, and I had LITERALLY no idea what it was about until I thought about it - hard. The whole ... premise seems like it's going to be a threesome, but it isn't.
I liked that he was so into her from the start and ... it's a bit awkward and not so touchy feely happy, but I'd read more by Amber Lin. [Don't see myself re-reading this one though...]
Pretty good; I think most of my complaints stem from my preference for longer stories. I liked the fairly major twist and the way things worked out in the end.
Friends to lovers story! *dances* This novella was soooo angsty and romantic and swoon worthy. Four stars because there was one scene I wasn't expecting and felt out of place, but that aside, LOVED.
I think I would've liked this so much more if it were a full length novel. This was too choppy, and I didn't understand some of the behaviors of the characters. What was the deal with Chris? I thought he was gonna be an ass, but no. The threesome? Unexpected, but hot. Why did they spend so much time apart? I just didn't get it.
