This is an anthology that showcases how having an editor coordinate an anthology makes it 200% better! Spike and her team on this book really did a lot of work on this book, both in the realm of the stories (all strong!) and the formatting (everything had a title and author information; stories were easy to differentiate from each other). This is one of the best-formatted anthologies from an indie press that we've seen in some time.

This... was solid. But reminded me of my issues with anthologies.

I didn't finish Smut Peddler 2012, which is to say that I didn't read a solid 50% of it. Multiple stories were about really, really uncomfortable scenarios (rape and the like) and I skipped them as fast as I could. It overshadowed the actually good content because it did not feel like a genuinely safe space for women and NB people--unless that came at the cost of LGBT people (much of the stories featuring poor consent were about gay men... hm...) and survivors of sexual assault. And, hey, I'm NB! Is this not for me, too?

2014 edition changed that. I read through all the comics, and though there were complicated lines, none of them made me uncomfortable in the very specific way I felt through most of 2012. There were some stories that I absolutely LOVED--especially the LGBT ones! It just felt like so much more effort was put in here, and it completely paid off.

I actually reread How You Gonna Keep 'Em Down On The Farm three times in one day because it was so well-written and sweet. Merger is another unique standout. Blue Delliquanti, as always, brought the trans representation with Honesty--well-written trans couples who have sex in non-traditional ways because that's more comfortable for them? We can HAVE that??? Yes, we can. And it's thanks to Blue.

I didn't like a couple of the stories, but honestly, it's down to art style and storytelling at that point--2014 gave me the vibe (...ha) that there was something for everyone. A lot of really well-written (and -illustrated) work!

Second volume of Smut Peddler, same review as the first one. This is a collection of feminist erotica comics and it was much more pleasant reading than regular comics erotica (like... let's say Milo Manara...). But there wasn't a story that would particularly resonated with me. The one that I'm really betting my money on as the one that could do the trick is Smut Peddler Presents: Sordid Past, we shall see when I get to it. I am having some trouble accessing the rest of the series.

The second Smut Peddler anthology is much like the first, which is not at all a bad thing. There's a wide range of stories. Some are straight-up sex. Some are weird and trippy, or ethereal. Most are more grounded. Some stories are fun, or funny, or sweet, but all are sexy. The LGBT spectrum is well-represented here, and body positivity is also a big deal. Also, there's no sad stories, no downer endings, nothing to bring readers down. It's all happy.

Ultimately, this anthology is just fun, positive sex stories. You probably know already if that interests you. If it does, then just go ahead and read it. You won't regret it.

Borrowed from a friend.

Despite not being outright monsterfucking, I think I enjoyed this one more than My Monster Boyfriend, also because there's some more f/f content.

Fewer deep (pun not intended) story comics, more smut. Some of the art styles were, imho, kind of off putting.

Enjoyed Intimacy Procedure: Informal, Clay, Who Watches The Watchmen?, Merger, Farmgirl, How You Gonna Keep 'em Down On The Farm.

I really enjoyed this collection. Stories were so cute and fun. Enjoyed the contribution of the threesome from the first volume. Biggest qualm was art style for "Big Babies;" while super adorable, it didn't feel most appropriate for smut? I also really loved the story about the dads who send their kid to camp for the first time. A lot of fun stories.

I personally enjoyed the 2012 Smut Peddler a bit more on the whole, but this collection still had lots of great stuff from some of my favourite comic creators. Honestly, any time I get to read a new (to me) Jess Fink comic is a wonderful day, and her contribution to this anthology was probably my favourite of the bunch. Definitely recommended for fans of smutty comics everywhere!

Really didn't enjoy this one as much as the first volume, but it was still fun to read! Just feel like more of the stories didn't have as much exposition, which seems like a strange thing to criticise, but I love relationship development.

It turns out I like my mindless porn less mindless, usually with at least a hint of a story and, *gasp* a point. And this volume is, well, mostly not that.

It's a very mixed bag of drawn porn, hitting all sorts of weird genres with the air of occasionally hitting them because they're different and exotic. Alien porn, elf porn, I-can't-tell-if-this-character-is-meant-to-be-male-or-female-because-the-drawings-are-weird porn, double transgender porn - it's like someone had a check list - "Hey boss, do we have alien porn?" "Human-alien, yeah." "Great, add some alien-alien to it and it'll be perfect."

I'm not impressed. The only reason this has three stars is because there were a few porn flashes which had a bit of a story - the alien-human one was cute (though rushed), the one drawn by the Oglaf author was cool and as strangely compelling as Oglaf, one story had a nice moral about setting people free... but most of it was just... surpriseless, mindless, "I'm not really trying to do anything other than draw genitals" porn.

Oh, well.

As I've only recently begun to dig myself out of the energy pit that has been the first trimester of pregnancy, I've started doing a little bit of reading here and there. It's nothing like the two books a week I used to be able to knock out, but it's better than the six weeks (or more) that I haven't had the energy to do anything but lie on the couch and watch TV.

Smut Peddler was so much fun to read. It's sex-positive about every kind of sex, gave me the tinglies more than once, and featured plenty of ladies that are closer to normal than they are to the comic-book norm.

Much like the first Smut Peddler, about half of the stories are great and the other half are either poorly-written or have unattractive/in some cases kind of creepy art (I don't want to watch people who look like children's dolls having sex). An interesting difference between this one and the first is that in this one most of the stories involve relationship sex or married sex, whereas the first one had way more one night stands.

The Trudy Cooper (of OGLAF fame) story is my favorite one.

I loved this volume much more than the first one. The pieces were more story- and character-based. My favorite was the one between the human and the alien, and the one between two trans characters. The witch one was fantastic as well.

This anthology had a ton of random junk shots though lmao. Which I do not understand the appeal of whatsoever. Lmao.

A re-read

It was really fun revisiting these 2 anthologies back to back. This collection didn’t have as much entries that I loved liked its predecessor had, but it’s still a very enjoyable collection. All of these selections I’m going to give some thoughts on I wish were reoccurring series as they all include characters I would love to continue reading about.

How You Gonna... by Jess Fink
Fink draws characters (especially males) that make my cheeks warm due to their cuteness and their behavior. This story she includes an alien that I totally was crushing hard on. Their relationship with the local human is just...uh a dream :) geez there were so many adorable moments that made me blush.

Glasses & Jones by Jujunghe
Definitely a “meet cute” story that stands alone. I think I enjoyed this one purely based on the fact it had me wanting to know more about the 2 characters lives aside from the story being told here. Also, “Jones” is the cool “hipster girl” that I totally would love to hang out with.

Honestly by Blue Delliquanti
There’s a moment in this story that pleasantly caught me by surprise. Also, the character Honesty is just such a kind hearted soul.

Last Word by A.Stiffler and K.Copeland
I just love the kindness and positive attitude of K’s spouse! Her personality won me over in the span of 2 panels. The actual sexual acts in this story kind of disturbed me though, but I’d love to read more stories detailing their relationship.

Complete by Abby Lark and Theo Lorenz
Another character that won me over immediately due to their positive and kind personality! Also, another cool hip looking person I’d love to hang out with.

Witch by Megan Rose Gedris
Loved this one due to its outrageous nature and the creator’s take on the witch lore.

Work of Art by Ghost Green
Cool characters and what a punchline!

I’ll Met by Conlight by Gilly Hathaway and Jennifer Anderson
So this story has been a romantic fantasy of mine for like...MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! I remember it was kind of haunting reading this for the first time because of it. So...yeah, this story is a dream of mine :)

Now You Don’t by Kate Leth
Love Kate Leth! It’s great to see a story she wrote AND illustrated as most of her work of I own she’s only written. I totally related to this story with the exception of the BDSM.

Gorgeous by S.W. Searle
Another creator whose work I always love! Enjoyed this entry and wanted more.

Phone Tag by Leah Weathington and Kendra Wells
A sequel to a story from Smut Peddler 2012...yeah! I enjoyed this one slightly more than its predecessor because I thought the boys were drawn cuter in this one.

I think I’m going to continue this trend to start my 2019, re-reading all these anthologies I own.

1) Smut Peddler: 2012 Edition ★★★★

I honestly don't really have any overall thoughts that I didn't have with the first edition. This remains a fantastic collection of sexy comics that are all thoroughly enjoyable. Something I didn't mention the first time around is how much I appreciate how woman-lead these are, and you can definitely tell while reading judging just by how many women get eaten out.

Anyway, quick thoughts on each comic (favourites are in bold):

Ambrosia, Arbutus : m/m, historical
How You Gonna Keep Em' Down on the Farm : m/m, alien, dubcon
The Wedding Gift : m/f, indian mc's
Glasses & Jones : f/f, woc, bdsm
Divers : m/f, time travel, sci-fi
Farmgirl : f/f
Honesty : f/m, asian mc, trans mc's
Last Word : f/f
Battleines : m/m, historical
Destination Wedding : m/f/m, polyamory
Merger : f/robot, fat woc
Complete : f/m, poc
The Witch : f/f, fantasy
Work of Art : m/f, fat woc
Who Watches the Watchmen? : f/m
Ill Met by Conlight : m/m
Now, You Don't : f/f
Big Booty Jane : f/m, fat mc, SFF
Tiger Bride : f/m
Gorgeous : f/f, woc
Intimacy Procedure: Informal : f/robot
One Night Off : m/m, fat mc
Big Babies : m/f
Clay : f/f, swampish monster
Phone Tag : m/m/f, polyamory, semi-public sex

I like this one less than the other one. I don't know: maybe the novelty wore off... Or the stories weren't simply as interesting as the ones in the previous volume.

Things I like:
♥ The protagonists in the last story appeared also in the first collection.
♥ The art in The Wedding Gift, Glasses & Jones, One Night Off and in Big Babies.
♥ The Witch's hair in The Witch. Brilliant. Well, the art in general in that story is extremely pleasant to the eye.
Battlelines was probably the best story of the collection because it's also funny.

Things I dislike:
Ambrosia, Arbutus, Divers and Now You Don't because I didn't get the meaning of these stories.
☠ The art in Farmgirl and Gorgeous;

Still, the positive things I've listed above can't make up for the average quality of most stories. I had fun while reading it, that's all.

It's no surprise that I would read something like this. Lol. A friend found this book and let me look at it and in turn I took it home. This was a decent book. There was a lot of diversity in this book. I can't truly say that it was for me since there were a plethora of gay and lesbian comics drawn. I am not into that. But the heterosexual scenes got me hot and bothered. What I did like the most was the different types of drawing and the way the authors/drawers expressed themselves. Some were funny, some were confusing, but that fact doesn't negate that I enjoyed this book. I was looking forward to reading the 2012 edition. Hope I can find it one day. If you are looking for something different and to see what is out there beyond your usual world of books/comics, then this is for you. It was a quick read so I truly was engulfed in it.

For years I had thought that Smut Peddler 2014 was just an updated version of Smut Peddler 2012 - NOT SO! They are two totally different books, with totally different stories and art, no duplicates - which was a pleasant surprise. But because it is such a mixed bag (as was the case with Smut Peddler #1), I definitely didn't like every story - in fact, I'd say that most of them weren't quite my own personal cup of tea due to either art style, story concept, or a mix of the two. BUT, because it is such a mixed bag, there is a little something for everyone because of the varied stories/art/couplings/concepts. Two that come to mind as bits I liked, for art or story, were Megan Rose Gedris' and ghost green's pieces. It's not all my taste, but I appreciate both Smut Peddler books for what they are - fun 18+ comic compilations.

I would give this 6⭐️'s if I could especially with that first story that took out my heart and threw it down the stairs.
I mean guys, why do that to me!!

This is the second issue Smut Peddler graphic novel from Iron Circus Comics and I am so glad to have discovered their work quite by accident, as they are mainly based in the US and so finding this particular issue and the first one were really hard.

These are short stories and each one are just as beautifully told as the next.
Yes, they are smut stories but the stories are what grab you.

A delightful assortment of sexy-sweet fun and where I always personally tell people to start with the indispensable Smut Peddler series. A diverse variety of artists and writers bring to life an assortment of fiery stories that are sure to please everyone from the shyest ingenue to the certified freak in the sheets. Personal favorites include How You Gonna Keep 'Em Down On The Farm, Merger, and Honesty—stories with big characters and even bigger hearts.

This anthology was gifted to me. Some of the stories I absloutely adored [Honesty, How you gonna keep em' down on the farm, battlelines, who watches the watchmen, now, you don't, phone tag and intimacy procedure: informal where highlights] and some I outright skipped. The art feels pretty dated to that late 00s/early 10's web comic style - perhaps just not the erotica art I would choose to seek out personally. Was really nice to be reminded though that queer sex can be really fucking nice.

As usual, there were some stories I enjoyed more than others, some of the art was more to my taste than the rest, and a few stories I was either left confused or just chalked them up to not my taste but well done you, author. Overall, a fun collection and the first time I had seen one author/artist outside of their webcomic I've been reading for years.

This second installment of Smut Peddler is just as good as the first and full of all new and all the naughty stuff we love. No matter what you're into, there is definitely something, if not everything, in this to get you hot, bothered, and wanting more... or at least to read it again. I really appreciate all the diversity within this issue - there were comics for many fetishes, body types, identities, et al. I wish more of the comics showed safe sex practices. It's always more fun if there is a condom/no STDs involved! <3

Huh. Interesting way of starting my day :-D
It's very good for what it is. The cover isn't selling it, though. It's about love and acceptance, and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And somewhat wet :-D
