Rate this book
His father united the world. He can barely hold himself together.

A generation ago, the warrior Duradin led the races of Humen, Lelethi, Beasts, and Flighters against the mutant Maranshai. The Land was saved, the Balance restored. Or so they believed.

Now, the old hero has vanished. The alliance he built is dust. The kings are gone, the witches can’t be trusted, and Maranshai stirs once more—armed with new dark powers born of ruin.

Duradin’s son, Dior, has spent years searching for his father, blaming himself for Duradin’s fall into madness. He’s a fighter, but he’d rather fight alone. He has no patience for politics, no time to rally the squabbling races that once called his father king, and certainly no desire to wear a ghost’s crown. He’s not his father, and he’s tired of being told he must be. Yet when the armies of Maranshai march, Dior is forced to confront the whether he leads or not, the war is coming to him.

Told through a limited number of intertwined points of view, this story follows those bound by war, blood, and fate. As the Balance fractures and the Land tilts toward chaos, Dior must decide what kind of man he will his father’s echo, or his own weapon.

THE BOOK OF There are many stories in a stories of the powerful and weak, kings and common folk, warriors and witches. But legends are forged in fire. These are the tales of those who rise when the world burns.
