This is a wonderful story by an amazing writer. Sigal Adler always tells a fun tale that has a meaning for all to learn. In this story Jack and Bill receive wishes, but sometimes what you wish for is not what you really need as the two farmers soon find out. The rhyming story will keep children entertained and the fun pictures keep a child's interest. Great to read alone or out loud for family time.
Summary- This book is about two farmers who are good friends and hard workers to make sure their family have what they need. One day while on break from working hard they noticed a bird that was stuck in a tree and decided to help. After they helped free the bird the bird then gave them each a wish for whatever they wanted. One wished for unlimited money when he needed it and another wished to have a million gold coins. The one who wished for money whenever he needed it still kept the same life but was never worried about money because when something was needed to be payed he knew he had enough in his wallet. Now the farmer who wished for a million gold coins changed is life style and spent it all way to fast for things he didn't need. One day when they met up to talk he said that he had ran out of money and needed to sell all of his things and go back to the way he used to live. Themes- A continuos theme in this story is that you should know what you have before you lose it. Another theme is that you should never be too greedy with what you have. Personal response- This book reminds me that you should always be thankful for what you have because you never know what you have until you lose it. Recommendations- I do recommend this book to teach children about greed and how things can be long in a short amount of time. This book uses simply drawn pictures so you can tell the difference between each farmer and how there lives change throughout the book.
