Rate this book
She’s running from London’s marriage mart. He’s running out of time to save his estate. Neither planned on falling in love—but their hearts have other plans.

American heiress Calliope Hart is thrust into London’s high society against her will, all because her mother is determined to marry her off to an aristocrat. Despite being named “the debutante of the season” back in New York, Calliope wants nothing more than to avoid becoming another pawn in the social game.

Edward Chase, the Earl of Hayward, is on the brink of financial ruin. To save his estate, he must marry, and Calliope Hart is his last hope. When he boldly declares his intentions, she swiftly rejects him, making it clear she has no interest in marrying for convenience. Undeterred, Edward offers a deal: He will escort Calliope to all the best sights of London that she’s been dying to see if she agrees to visit his estate and consider what they could accomplish together.

What begins as a business arrangement soon sparks something much more complicated—an undeniable chemistry neither can ignore. But as their hearts begin to soften, both must confront their fears: Can Calliope trust Edward with her heart, and can Edward truly win her love when she’s convinced he only wants her fortune?

Thank you to NetGalley and RBmedia for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in return for an honest and voluntary review!

I have to say I'm truly going to miss this book and its characters for a while! I haven't read many regency romances but I'm taking this book as a sign to read more of them because this was so cute!

The build up of Edward and Calliope's love was genuinely so sweet to see - we need more Edward's in todays world honestly!! The way he indulges in Calliope's love for history and in return Calliope helps him feel what it is like to have fun again after living in a grief fuelled haze for so long had me lowkey tearing up at time not gonna lie. Women truly don't want the world, just someone who listens to them and their interests like Edward does!
Something about the chapter where they play cricket had me full on smiling and giggling to myself it was actually insane lmao

The narrator does as amazing job of voicing both the FMC and MMC in such perfect and distinguishable ways, it was like i could really hear and see the characters on the book cover come to life and truly live through this story! I'll definitely be checking out more of their work!!

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH Y'ALL! What a fun regency romance book! I loved everything about it. The romance, the banter, the laughs...

We follow an American heiress Calliope Hart, who is pushed into London's high society by her mother because she is determined to marry her off. Edward Chase is the Earl of Hayward and its on it's way to financial ruin so to save his estate, he has to marry someone and Calliope is his only hope to do so. His immediate proposal of marriage is rejected and he offers a deal....he will escort her around London to see the best sights and visit his estate....then if she still isn't interested, he will let her go...

BUT y'all know how well that's gonna go, right? Hahah! I loved it!!

So much chemistry and interactions that were chef's kiss.

Highly recommend for my regency romance girlies!

Romance was clean with kisses only, no content warnings, just a fun, clean read!

Thank you to Haven for the beautiful gifted book mail. I received a copy of the book from the publisher to read for review, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A delightful read. As always, I love Chelsea’s writing, and this story was a fun and sweet escape. I enjoyed the premise and the characters, and I’m looking forward to reading the next installments in the series.

So fun to get a regency-inspired romance from Chelsea after reading her contemporaries. She really can do it all! Well done, Chelsea!

I absolutely adored this one. This is the kind of historical romance that makes you want to linger in Edwardian London just a little longer and sigh happily when you close the final page.

Calliope Hart is not your typical society miss. Though labeled “the debutante of the season,” she wants nothing to do with being paraded through London’s marriage mart like a prize to be won. I loved her independence, her wit, and her determination not to be used as a solution to someone else’s financial troubles.

Edward Chase, the Earl of Hayward, is desperate, yes, but never cruel. Watching him balance duty with growing affection was such a delight. What begins as a practical arrangement slowly softens into something tender, layered, and deeply heartfelt. The enemies-to-lovers tension is beautifully restrained, and the marriage-of-convenience trope is handled with emotional depth.

The chemistry builds through meaningful conversations, shared adventures, and quiet, vulnerable moments that feel earned rather than rushed. I especially appreciated that this is a clean, no-spice romance while still delivering swoon and emotional intensity.

Romantic, charming, and full of heart, this story completely won me over. I adored it and am already eagerly anticipating book two.

I received a complimentary copy and was not obligated to leave a positive review.

“A Deal with a Debutante" by Chelsea Bobulski is a witty and engaging historical romance set in Edwardian London. It is the first book in the “London’s Most Eligible” series. I love the humorous writing style in this story. The chemistry between our main couple is sizzling and the first kiss is perfection! It’s impossible not to love the characters. Calliope Hart, our FMC, is so funny! She is a lover of history and politics, a writer, stubborn and vivacious. She is an American heiress in London, on a mission to find a husband, but she really wants to stay in New York. Edward Chase, the Earl of Hayward, needs to marry someone wealthy to save his family and estate. The two form a deal of convenience, but sparks start to fly. Will it turn into a match of love? I love Edward and his yearning. The banter between the two is chef’s kiss. I especially loved the letters and newspaper clippings at the end of each chapter. I recommend this book to lovers of witty historical romance. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Content: I give this book a high PG rating. Some examples of the content: characters drink alcohol and get a little drunk; mention of a prostitute; allusion to the “physical aspect” of marriage.
TW: loss; alcoholic side character.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

This was a cute and sweet regency romance with Bridgerton and Jane Austen novel vibes. Edward Chase, the Earl of Hayward, is on the market for a rich American bride whose dowry can save is estate from bankrupcy. Calliope Hart has been brought to London for the season by her mother specifically to marry a well bred English gentleman.

Despite the fact that both of them know that this is a business transaction, they start to form feelings for one another. Calliope has agreed to tour London with Edward and visit his estate, but she never agreed that she would end up marrying the Earl. However, the more time she spends with him, the more she can see herself marrying this kind man.

This was such a fun and fast read. Highly recommend for fans of Bridgerton.

What happens when you take a wealthy American heiress and ship her off to England with the sole purpose of matching her with a money-strapped English aristocrat? Well, I’ll tell you if you’ll pardon me for a moment while I finish fanning myself from the swoonilicious chemistry between Edward & Calliope, giggling over their delightful banter and the hilarious side characters, and wiping away more than a few tears (because of how deeply invested I was in their romance). I loved A Deal with a Debutante by Chelsea Bobulski – so, so much. As you no doubt can already tell, it engaged all of my emotions and truly immersed me in the story so I felt like I was right there with them from beginning to end.

Calliope is an easily likable and independent heroine, all the more so because of her sweet relationship with her father and the way she lovingly tolerates her mother’s enthusiasm about seeing her married to an earl or a duke or any sort of nobility. Tolerates, yes, but agrees to? Not just yet. I loved that she fully intends to wait her mother out and then return to New York and her father and her friends and her work as a journalist. Until Edward swoops in with a proposal, that is. Well… no, that’s not entirely accurate either. Because she resists his swooniness a lot longer than I would have haha. And sweet mercy, Edward is a super yummy hero. Just saying. If you love that classic Mr.-Darcy-in-the-pond scene – or even if, like me, you’ve never seen the appeal – you’re going to love a certain scene in this book too. But it’s not just his physical handsomeness that makes him so appealing (though that doesn’t hurt). He also has a big heart for the less fortunate, isn’t afraid to admit he misses his late father dearly, and wonderfully balances allowing Calliope to be her own person and wanting to protect & cherish her. And their banter and shared laughter at the humor in certain situations (like Edward’s eccentric family members) kept a permanent smile on my face (except for a couple of scenes that made me cry because I was all-in with their love story).

Bottom Line: Oh goodness, y’all. A Deal with a Debutante by Chelsea Bobulski is a purely delightful and emotionally-engaging Edwardian romance that had my whole heart invested in the story. Specifically, in watching the multifaceted protagonists dance around a potential marriage-of-convenience while trying – and failing – to keep their own hearts uninvolved. Wit, warmth, electric sparks, and some super swoony kisses… Edward & Calliope’s story more than delivers all the feels. It was very easy to immerse myself completely into their world, and I hope we get to visit with them a little in future books of the series because I’m not quite ready to say goodbye just yet.

Edward Chase, the Earl of Hayward, is looking down the lens of financial ruin. Calliope Hart is an American heiress whose mother would love nothing more than to marry her off to a titled Englishman.

This was a very sweet and cute story. It was very simple and straightforward in its storytelling. Unfortunately, I have just read more creative and nuanced versions of this same story.

This would be a great historical romance to recommend to YA readers!

I listened to the audiobook of this one and found myself laughing out loud many times. And smiling so big and swooning over the chemistry and sweet budding romance between these two characters! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!!!

Calliope is determined to head back to her home in New York and pursue her writing and friendships there. Forget finding a husband in London. But her mother insists she will marry a titled gentleman. Thus begins a game of chess that Calliope has to play very carefully if she is going to get out of the harsh society that judges her every move and doesn't even give her a chance, all they see is an upstart American. But choosing to play along with this intricate game to appease her mother, she encounters several haughty gentlemen at a ball and they just solidify her decision to not marry. But, unfortunately, one of those gentleman is Edward Chase, the Earl of Hayward.

These two had me laughing over their quick wit and banter. And their fiery personalities! But each subsequent meeting was better and better! They might have shields up to protect themselves but before too long those will come down. Edward apologizes and explains his situation and invites Calliope to make a deal with him to know who he is, and why he wants her to marry him. She accepts and finds herself walking a fine line of not letting her heart get entangled in the deal. *Happy Sigh*

I loved every scene with them. But one of my favorites is definitely at the opera!!! *Swooooooon!!!!*

They're both just such great characters! And kind! I loved the narrator and how she portrayed these characters and story. Definitely one I'd recommend reading or listening to, and one I'll enjoy again!!!

Content: Clean. A few sweet kisses but nothing further.

Thank you to Uplit and Haven publishing for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

I throughly enjoyed my time with this book!
It completely took me by surprise.

The story was fun and I loved the time period it was set in, 1908. We got to see a side of London in a new era.

I enjoyed the growing relationship between Calliople and Edward. What started out as a huge misstep for Edward, became a tentative friendship.

The way this man yearned, was unmatched! His actions and attitude endeared me to him, I love how consistent and caring he was to those in his care and especially to Calliope.

I loved Calliope, she was feisty, and confident. She definitely had her moments of of uncertainty and an internal battle between the heart and mind. We see Calliope struggle with going back to what she knows and is comfortable with other to step out and embrace what love has to offer. I did like how it played out towards the end. But the burn is very slow, as Edward and Calliope learn to love one another.

This story had a chaotic mix of eccentric family members, meddling mothers and beautiful representation of friendship.

I read 30% (page 158 of 533) and I feel no chemistry. I’m actually really bored. DNF

Plot- He’s an earl that needs to marry an heiress to pull his estate out of ruin, so he finds out who the richest girl is at the ball and confronts her with a business style of marriage proposal.
She’s an American heiress who has no motivation to marry except to appease her pushy mother who wants her daughter to have an English title. She doesn’t care for the title nor for following her mother’s edict to marry.

The beginning was interesting bc she was offended by the MMC’s presumptuous proposal. As was I! But then he apologizes while still doubling down on wanting a marriage of convenience when they don’t even know each other, and it would only be convenient for him.
!!
I am sort of turned off by his determination to conquer her.

She accepts his offer to be her tour guide thru London for a week, and so far it’s super boring.

An Edwardian tale with a twist–yes, please! Calliope, an American heiress, is in England with her mother to find a titled match. From the first fiery meet-cute to every interaction afterward, Calliope and Edward banter with wits and character in a charming and delightful romcom-like story.

I swooned hard with each brush of a hand, every stolen kiss, and especially with the opera and fishing expedition. The house party had me laughing so hard, with the quirky characters and impossible situations.

Although their start was rocky and Edward seemed arrogant, he quickly grew on me. I loved how he kept making amendments to his offer and I was deeply enchanted as his true nature was revealed. Calliope is a blast from the beginning and has her own hopes and dreams. The way their ambitions collide and shift, along with the undeniable magnetic chemistry, made this one exciting and amusing from the very first page.

A Deal with a Debutante is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last–London’s Most Eligible is sure to be a fantastic series!

Review of advance copy received from Netgalley
February 14, 2026
I like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for allowing this as a free read.

For someone who isn't familiar with a lot of the no-spice Victorian reads out there, this might chart higher. For me, it was pretty simple. Woman is rich heiress from US, man is a Duke who is having issues with his estate. They get off on the wrong foot when he insults her at a dance (accidentally) by claiming that she is looking for someone to propose to her who is looking for her money than 'her'. They later meet up and he basically states that if she can come to his estate and see if the state of it will change her mind / accept his proposal then she will marry him. That it would purely be a marriage of convenience.

Unfortunately, there is nothing more going on with the story. The author throws in a friend who means more in the last 15% of the book, but it's so late in the book that you know that she's going to accept him (the Duke).

It's a cute read, but it needed more plot than just inner monologue debates about one another,

Hello everyone!🙃

Today is #review day!😆

From me, A Deal with a Debutante by Chelsea Bobulski receives 4⭐! ☺️

First of all, I want to thank NetGalley and Haven Publishing for the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for a honest review!

General info: 1st #book in a ya #historicalromance series set in the early twentieth century, in which a young American heiress is forced by her mother to marry a British lord; this novel talks about the hypocrisy of the British society - needing foreign money while also despising the source; about the outdated cultural and societal norms struggling in the face of progress and emancipation; and the importance of legacies and history kept through monuments, landmarks, etc;

BOOK THOUGHTS

This book was a delight! Calliope and Edward, our protagonists, quickly became dear to me! I really enjoyed their sweet romance. ^^

The novel start with an almost rivalry between them, that very well paints the picture of their respective situations, their desires and their responsibilities.

I find it very refreshing when an author tries to tackle real concerns actual people who were in the circumstances they write might have had.
For instance, Callie is extremely rich, but the rebuff of the English society she experiences was very real for the women put in a similar position with her; and I really appreciated her thoughts and her struggle with maintaining decorum while also showing she cares not to be the butt of the joke for impoverished 'gentlemen' who will literally do anything to have her money. She's also well-rounded as a character, having interests, dreams and a personality outside her role of a woman in love.

Edward was similarly well done! We clearly see what type of man he is: reserved, embarrassed to be in such a position as to hunt for a rich wife, but also incredibly loyal, honest, and pasionate about his legacy.
I also enjoyed the secondary characters( the great-uncle and aunt where phenomenal ^^) and the roles they played in the story. You could say everyone had a thing/perspective worth reading about.

The writing was really nice, maybe a bit too repetitive in some instances when the MCs think about each other; here we also have a little miscommunication, but I believe it's a logical one given their upbringing (especially Edward).
The atmosphere was very cosy, reminiscent of scorching summer days, so I won't waste any more time and say it here: I highly recommend this book as a summer read!

Besides the miscommunication, another thing that lowered the rating for me was the simplicity of the plot...there were several instances in which I thought were setup for a secondary conflict and I was mistaken.^^'...other than that, I don't really have anything negative to say.

In my opinion, this lovely romance is perfect for a quick summer read, if you're in the mood for some low stakes ya story that also tackles themes like the importance of legacies, of history and of being true to yourself. :)

I love when I find new closed door romance books and especially if I can find them in audio. I believe this was a debut and it was a great one. In many historical romances, I get frustrated when the characters don’t spend enough time together to make me believe that they actually form a connection but that was not an issue here. Lots of time together on page, banter and quite a first meeting made for a great story. Calliope’s American spunk and slight impropriety just endeared her to Edward even more. Watching them fall for each other is what I love about love stories. Even with a plot choice that usually bugs me, I didn’t hate the third act. I did want a little more in an epilogue but maybe we will see Edward and Calliope again in future books and I will definitely be giving those a read.

I love dual point of view stories and usually prefer dual narration with them but I thought this narrator did a great job voicing both points of view.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the gifted audiobook. The thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

I received an audio version of this ARC thanks to NetGalley and RBMedia. All opinions are my own.

Our FMC is written exactly how whine men say women behave. She doesn't do anything but whine and go back and forth on her feelings. Seriously, she wanted to tell him her feelings for like half the book, and the second he does it first, she changes her mind and leads on someone else. This book could have been a quarter of the length had all the whining and waffling been taken out.

Haven publishers debut novel and I really enjoyed it! The storyline and the characters were a lot of fun. You have me hooked into a story when it has to do with London society, balls and matchmaking.

I really liked the Calliope and her snarkiness. Knowing she was in London to get married but not willing to just accept anybody, lol. The sweet scenes between the two characters and I loved the countryside estate part of the story.

I would like to thank NetGalley for sending me a copy of this book and audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

Regency romance is a genre I’ve never thought to read before, but this was such a fun read it’s making me want to read more!! Not only were the characters in this book fun to read about, but the world was so easy to get sucked into.

Calliope and Edward were such an adorable couple, and in a way, reminded me of why I love romance books so much. The feeling of butterflies and giggling while reading is something this book definitely delivered. They were so sweet and perfect together, and I really enjoyed their banter as well.

Despite approaching her at first because of his family situation, Edward’s love for Calliope was so wholesome and unconditional. Him having actual heart eyes while he yaps about her interests is what every girl wants. Her happiness was the most important thing to him, even at the expense of his own. A man that yearns will ALWAYS be loved by me.

Calliope’s dedication to her dreams, especially during the time period that this takes place, was so important to me. She wanted to be loved without giving up her dreams, and I loved her for that.

I’m not always the biggest fan of third act breakups, but I loved this one so much! They were both so miserable and I felt like crying I LOVED IT.

I read this along with the audio and the narrator did an amazing job! You could hear the differences in each character and I’d love to listen to more books narrated by them.

Chelsea has such a wonderful way of telling a story. She did an outstanding job of getting the reader into the moment and letting me get lost in the story.
Calliope is a wonderful FMC, I really enjoyed watching her grow and stand on her own in a society where she would not be encouraged to do so. Edward was a fun MMC, you could really feel the conflict he was struggling with and it made you feel for him.
The swoon!!! I loved the slow burn as they developed a real connection.
I am so excited for the next book!!!

"Therefore, he would marry Miss Calliope Hart if it killed him. Not only because doing so would save Whitefawn, but because, childish as it was, he still wanted to prove to her that it would not take a threat of death by firing squad to get her to marry him." ~ Chelsea Bobulski

This was the very kind of sweet, swoony romance I like to reach for once in a while. Its the first in the author's London's Most Eligible series, set in the Gilded Age when America's wealthy "dollar princesses" were being married off to England's aristrocrats to save their crumbling estates. Calliope is reluctantly in England at her mother's insistance to snag a titled husband. Edward's mother is pushing him to marry an American, or any heiress as quickly as possible, as their estate is on the line. When he boldly tells Calliope he intends to marry her during their first dance, he frames it as a business transaction. Calliope quickly spurns him, but he's determined to not take no for an answer.

Edward's pursuit of Calliope is thoughtful and intentional and as the chapters alternate between the two of them, the reader gets to enjoy Edward falling in love first. Despite pressure from her mother, Calliope intends to return to the life she loves in New York. But can Edward convince her he can offer her more to love in England?

This love story offered witty, heartfelt conversation. In the pages of this novel, the author introduces characters that will get their turn at future romance in the series. I'll be looking forward to following what's next.

I'm loving this new imprint, Haven. They promise swoon-worthy romance without the spice. I've read their first two books now, and I really appreciate their commitment to that promise. Their books have felt safe and been truly enjoyable.

This was such an enjoyable regency romance. The pace was consistent from start to finish, the characters were charming and likable. I loved the banter and sweet swoon worthy moments between Calliope and Edward. Edward is the sweetest cinnamon roll MMC and I liked Calliope's energy and charisma.
There was a bit of a miscommunication trope towards the end and to be honest I was slightly frustrated with Calliope's character at that point. I guess that's what makes for good writing, when the author can evoke emotions from the readers. The few chapters where it seemed to go back and forth a bit, I was inwardly yelling at Calliope begging her to make the right choice.
I loved the relationship progression and the hilarious family members that made this such an enjoyable read.

If you like sweet regency romance with banter, swoon, a great plot and only kisses, this one is for you.

Thank you UpLit Reads for the gifted copy and Recorded Books for the alc via Netgalley!

I just adored this historical romance! One thing I love about historical romance is the tension and angst that an author can portray in just the touches and stolen moments and kisses. Calliope is an American Heiress in London for the marriage mart...at her mother's pleasure. Edward Chase, the Earl of Hayward is on the hunt for wealthy wife to help save his family's home and legacy. Things don't start off great when he attempts to be completely honest with her about his intentions, but she thinks he is just trying to make her look like a fool.

Luckily they reconnect and what starts as a possible business arrangement grows into so much more. I love that this is a potential marriage of convenience and we get all the build up with Edward trying to show her why his family's home and tenants are so special and why he wants to keep the legacy alive. Calliope is pretty set in her ways and wants to go back to the States to continue her writing, but the more time they spend together, the more she realizes that they might be exactly what the other needs. The banter between these two was so fun and oh the tension and angst! This is a total kick your feet kind of romance and I totally ate it up!

The narration was fabulous, Amy Scanlon did a fantastic job with this and I couldn't stop listening.

(I received a complimentary copy of this title from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.)

From the publisher: “She's running from London's marriage mart. He's running out of time to save his estate. Neither intends to fall in love--but their hearts have other plans.”

This was such an adorable YA Edwardian romance! This is the first book I’ve ever read by Chelsea Bobulki, and I would definitely be interested in reading more of her books in the future. “A Deal with a Debutante” is the first book in a brand-new series titled “London’s Most Eligible.” I’m already looking forward to whatever the next book is!

The witty banter in this book was next level, and I loved all the side characters, too. There were so many funny and sweet moments throughout this story!

I do feel like the first half of the book was paced better than the second half, and there was a twist towards the end that I didn’t really find necessary, but I enjoyed the story so much that neither of these things really bothered me much. 🙂

Read “A Deal with a Debutante” for:

-Edwardian romance
-YA
-Clean, kisses only
-Marriage of Convenience
-He-falls-first
-A bit of an enemies-to-lovers feel

I definitely recommend “A Deal with a Debutante!”

Thanks to Netgalley for the ebook.
I think the style was supposed to reflect the Victorian/Edwardian age, but it turned out very artificial, and it feels odd while reading. Also, I don't think it matches the light vibes of the book at all.
My favorite sections had been the articles, letters and gossips at the end of the chapters. I also liked how everything was solved in the end even though it felt a bit rushed.
