When dedicated philanthropist Judith Stanford receives a summons from her estranged grandfather ordering her to come to Minneapolis to prove herself worthy of his inheritance, she is hesitant but can't ignore the potential of her grandfather's fortune to benefit her causes. And the only man to interest her since her husband's death lives in Minneapolis, making her wonder if their paths will cross.

Roman Turner, a local physician with a heart for the poor, harbors a grudge against Judith's grandfather for his unethical actions that led to the death of Roman's father and the financial ruin of his mother and sister. When he meets Judith again, he is shocked to learn the woman he's thought about all these years is related to the one man he hates.

As Judith tries to overcome the complicated history between her and Roman's families and disentangle her grandfather's tainted legacy, she begins to form a plan for reparation. But when it becomes clear someone else has other intentions for the money, Judith is left directly in their path, and her dreams of a new legacy are at risk.

As a reader who has enjoyed Tracie Peterson's books for over a decade I will say Faithful of Heart is a very good installment to Tracie's books. This story which takes place in Minnesota (hey we're kinda close to Iowa) is filled with enough romance and adventure which is surely to keep a reader satisfied. I will admit the last couple chapters had me on my toes with the suspenseful action. I will also say it provided a very meaningful message of forgiveness too not only for others but for yourself as well.

Judith our main heroine is a widow and recently last both her parents. She has dedicated to helping the less fortunate. She then discovers that her grandfather wants her to visit him as he is dying and wants to make her his heir. Although she has no interest in his money she agrees to meet him.

We are introduced to Dr. Turner who has the same values as Judith but there is aminosity among him and her grandfather for something that happened in the past. Can he find the strengh to forgive and move forward with his life. Meanwhile Bert the solicitor to Judith's grandfather has a few evil tricks up his sleeves. Overall a very exciting Christian Historical Fiction novel!

Tracie Peterson's newest release brought to life Minnesota in the mid 1800's. Dedicated philanthropist, Judith Stanford, is summoned by her extremely wealthy estranged grandfather, as she is the only member of the family left who can inheritant. She is hesitant to go having never heard anything positive about the man. When she finally gives in to his request, Judith finds both information about what split the family up as well as a few things that will change her life forever.

Well written, this quick and enjoyable read paints a picture of life in the mid 1800's in Minnesota, the problems of the poor, and how many of the churches and families were trying to help them. Once again an excellent read from Tracie Peterson.

A heartfelt thank you to @authortraciepeterson, @bethanyhousefiction, and @greatreadsbookpromo for the generous #gifted book.

Tracie has outdone herself once again with a captivating story filled with a strong woman, redemption, faith, and the transformative power of love. This is the inaugural book in her new series, Minnesota Legacy, set amidst the historic backdrop of 1870 Minneapolis.

Judith emerges as a truly inspiring character, dedicated to helping those less fortunate and guided by unwavering faith. When her grandfather, who disowned her father and is now facing his final days, calls for her, she encounters a ruthless man solely driven by greed.

What I loved most was Judith's steadfast commitment to her values, refusing to be swayed by her grandfather's stubbornness. I admired her determination to uncover those her grandfather harmed through his business and her heartfelt efforts to make amends. Her compassion extended to household workers, townspeople, and the orphans she cared for. I also cherished her reunion with Roman, both sharing a genuine passion for serving others.

This beautifully written novel features richly developed characters, and the meticulous historical research shines through on every page.

If stories about the enduring power of love and faith resonate with you, this book is a must-read. I can’t wait for the next book, A Life So True, about Judith’s daughter, arriving in July 2026.

Once again Tracie Peterson has gifted us with a heartwarming, soul-stirring read that lingers in your mind long after the last page is turned. The perfectly paced plot, with a compelling combination of history, romance, suspense, and faith, drew me in quickly and held me captive for the entirety of the story--another hard to put down, one-sitting read. A wonderfully crafted cast of characters, a
strong faith thread highlighting Christian values of salvation and forgiveness, and a slow building, emotionally rich sweet romance also contribute to making this an exceptional, inspiring read. This book launches Ms. Peterson's A Minnesota Legacy series. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

The older I get, the more I enjoy a Christian fiction book. I love the redemption and faith, and how the characters’ growth leads them closer to Jesus. This book was just that. I loved watching how the characters, especially Roman, increased faith and turned hearts over to God, which in turned changed and softened them.
It would be hard not to admire Judith. As soon as she hears of someone in need, she jumps in with both feet, regardless of how difficult the task or dangerous the situation. And she lets very little scare her. I thought the element of her heat intolerance was a fun inclusion. It made her seem even more real. Also, the way she stood up to her grandfather was fantastic. It made me laugh a few times. Judith’s steadfast character and strong morals were the best parts of this book. She is a really good person.
Roman is also an incredible character. Going through so much for his family, and selflessly giving of his time for so many in need in their city made him pretty great. But he went through the most growth in the book, and if you’ve been around for a minute, you know character growth is of paramount importance to my enjoyment of a book, so I really liked that about Roman.
The way Judith slowly worked on her grandfather so give him perspective and try to bring him to God was a fun thing to see. I loved the servants, the reverend and his wife, and Roman’s family. I was also a little surprised by the ending. I knew something was coming, but I didn’t anticipate how everything went down. Also, the time period on this book was a lot of fun to read.
If you, too, enjoy a Christian fiction book, especially one with strong themes of forgiveness and redemption, give this one a try.

There are moments in life when the line between right and wrong becomes painfully clear, and the cost of choosing what is right suddenly feels very real.

Judith stands in that kind of moment. And what she chooses reveals the kind of faith that refuses to compromise, even when doing so would be far easier.

Her life has already been shaped by deep wounds caused by the greed and cruelty of a man who devastated her family. When the possibility of wealth and influence presents itself again, it would be easy to justify accepting it. After all, money could accomplish many good things. But Judith understands that some opportunities carry a cost far greater than their reward.

At one point she reflects on the temptation before her: “And while it would be nice to have vast amounts of money at her disposal, she wasn't about to sell her soul to the man who had so deeply wounded her parents. No, it wasn't an issue of forgiveness. It was a matter of keeping evil at bay. The Bible admonished Christians in the fourth chapter of James to ‘Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.’ Surely the same was true for those who served him.”

That moment captures the spiritual backbone of this story. Faithfulness is not simply about kindness or good intentions. Sometimes it requires resisting what is wrong even when doing so costs something deeply personal.

Yet Judith’s strength is not rooted only in conviction. It is also shaped by compassion.

Again and again her heart turns toward those who suffer, those struggling simply to survive. Her desire to help flows naturally from the faith she holds so dearly: “Judith felt tears come to her eyes and hurriedly took out her handkerchief to stem the flow. She couldn't help but feel the need to serve others ... She wanted only to see the needy receive what might help them to survive and thrive.”

Moments like this reveal the tenderness beneath Judith’s strength. Faithfulness to God does not harden the heart. It deepens compassion.

One of the most powerful moments in the story comes when the conversation turns directly to the gospel itself:
“Are you going to preach at me?” He frowned but didn't forbid it. “Preach? No. But I am always happy to share with you the simplicity of accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord. The Bible makes it quite clear that Jesus is the only way to God and the reconciliation that we so desperately need. Jesus died once for all, so you might as well accept what has been freely given.”

There is something deeply refreshing about the clarity of that message. The story does not soften or obscure the truth of the gospel. Instead, it presents it with the same conviction that shapes Judith’s life.

And quietly woven throughout the story is a reminder that faithfulness is rarely loud or dramatic. More often it is revealed through the steady choices of a heart determined to honor God, resist evil, and serve others with humility.

This is the kind of story I know I will return to again and again, because the truths woven through its pages are the kind a heart wants to live by.

And when the final page is turned, the story leaves behind a truth worth sharing: a heart that remains faithful to Christ will never regret choosing Him.

I received the eARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. I am not required to write a positive review in any way or for any reason. My honest and unbiased opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing style, the pacing, and the story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability. I will re-read this fantastic story again and again and again!

What are you reading this weekend?

Judith Stanford is surprised to learn that her estranged grandfather, James Ashton, wants her to travel to Minnesota to determine whether she should inherit his fortune. She has never met the man, but he offers her a sum of money to travel that she can use to help Civil War widows and orphans. She decides to use this money for her charities and make the trip. She also hopes to cross paths with Dr. Roman Turner, a man she met years before who interested her as no man has done since her husband passed away. The problem is that the only man that Roman hates is Judith’s grandfather as he ruined his father financially and caused his early death. Can Judith and Roman work through these issues from the past?

My thoughts on this novel:
• This was a clean read, inspirational, and Christian novel. I enjoyed that the characters prayed throughout the novel.

• It was fun having Judith ride in a luxurious train from Philadelphia to Minneapolis in 1870.

• It was interesting how Judith and her grandfather had very different philosophies in life. Judith has a life of giving and helping others while her grandfather is consumed with making more money. He reminded me of Ebenezer Scrooge.

• I loved the sermon in a chapter of the novel that focused on the teachings of Jesus including his greatest commandment to love your neighbor as yourself and the parable of the good Samaritan. I have tried to live my life following these teachings however imperfectly. I think they are very important and something that needs to be emphasized in today’s world.

• I loved how Judith stuck to her own self and values and did not bend to her grandfather’s will. I also appreciated that she tried to help people harmed by her grandfather.

• Chapters were told in alternating perspectives between Judith and Roman.

• Roman has the same values as Judith and is always helping others. I enjoyed their relationship.

• This novel had a theme of forgiveness.

• I greatly enjoyed the suspense at the end of the novel.

• I would say the tropes are slow burn and second chance romance.

• This is the first book in a new series, Minnesota Legacy. I’m very interested to read the next book which is about Judith’s daughter. There is an excerpt at the end of this book.

Overall, Faithful of Heart by Tracie Peterson was a great historical romance novel with a wonderful theme of faith and forgiveness. I enjoyed the journey of the characters throughout this novel.

This is a book that centers around charity, goodness of heart and the belief in others to find their way. It's a deeply spiritual journey as Judith Stanford, a well known charity organizer and business woman, receives word that her estranged grandfather wants to meet her. He's dying and he wants to leave his fortunes to her, but she has no interest in it. Her grandfather abandoned her father and is known for having no compassion for others. This is completely at odds with Judith and how she lives her life.

Eventually she gives in to the requests and makes her way from Philadelphia to Minneapolis to meet with her grandfather. This turns into an agreement for her to stay during the summer and get to know him and his business. She learns a lot of bad things about his business dealings and is convinced that God sent her on this path to right those wrongs. So she commits herself fully to learning and preparing to take his empire over.

Along the way, she starts to slowly break through his barriers and help him see his own way to salvation is through asking for God to be in his heart. This was a profound moment in the story because it's not give too much focus, but allows for a very personal moment of realization on his part.

Judith's character is about as good as they come. She's devoted her life to charity work - raising money, holding events, and helping as many people in need as she can. When she arrives in Minneapolis, that's another thing she starts doing right away. As she attends the local church, she's quickly brought in on the happenings and sets her sights on helping the orphans that have lost their parents during war and famine.

She also meets Roman Turner, whom she met earlier in the story before she even knew about her grandfather. He's a local surgeon and also fervently involved in charity work. They are a perfect match for one another and it was heartwarming to watch their affections grow in such a mature way throughout this story.

There's a slight hurdle lurking in the background throughout this entire story and that's Judith's grandfathers attorney, Bert. This man believes that he is owed the fortunes of his employer and nothing less will suffice. He's also convincing himself that Judith is madly in love with him and this is another way he can secure the inheritance he believes is his. But his infatuation borders on delirium and he's a dangerous fellow to keep around. He was a perfectly unlikeable character in that he has no sense of things going on around him. Even if he is a great lawyer.

A beautiful story that lays deep reminders about the importance of forgiveness, helping others, and being open to changes in our paths. Judith's strong character is loveable and a personification that good can be done in any circumstance if we only listen.

Surprise inheritance, estranged relative, forgiveness, & second chance love! Faithful of Heart is a powerful, heartfelt tale in the brand new Minnesota Legacy series. Tracie Peterson has long been a favorite inspirational historical fiction author, & I couldn’t wait to read this stirring new story. I thoroughly enjoyed Judith, a strong, endearing woman dedicated to serving the less fortunate, & Roman, the gentle healer struggling to forgive the man who destroyed his father & family. Filled with romance, faith, & a touch of suspense, this book kept me thoroughly engaged.

After losing her parents in a steamboat accident & her husband in the Civil War, Judith Stanford has devoted her life to helping others. When she meets the handsome Dr. Roman Turner at a charity event, he’s the first man to turn her head since her late husband. But the timing is wrong, he lives in Minneapolis while she’s firmly established in Philadelphia.

Years later, Judith receives an unexpected summons to Minneapolis from her estranged grandfather. The dying man who disinherited her father has had a change of heart. He wants to make Judith his heir, but only if she proves her worthiness. Judith isn’t interested in his fortune until she realizes the good it could do for others. She agrees to stay only with conditions. Imagine her surprise when the man she’s never forgotten crosses her path again.

Dr. Roman Turner has a heart for serving the underserved & never stopped thinking about the woman in Philadelphia who shared his passion. Seeing her again in Minneapolis makes his heart skip a beat, until he realizes she’s the granddaughter of his nemesis. James Ashton ruined his father through an unethical business deal & devastated his family. Can Roman overlook Judith’s heritage & choose forgiveness?

I thoroughly enjoyed this second chance romance! Judith & Roman are such admirable people. I loved how Judith longs to bring restoration to those her grandfather hurt. She’s a beautiful example of faith & hope despite so much loss, & I admired her spunk in standing up to her grandfather. Roman’s struggle with forgiveness felt very real, & I appreciated his journey to forgiveness. Their slow-burn romance was wonderful as they help each other along the way.

A touch of suspense near the end adds to the sweeping conclusion. Highly recommend this touching, romantic story. I received an advanced copy from the publisher with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.

Faithful of Heart is a historical fiction set in the late 1800s in Philadelphia and Minneapolis by Author Tracie Peterson. It is the first book in the Minnesota Legacy series and is filled with layers of philanthropy.

The story begins with the prologue in Philadelphia in 1866 and sets the stage for what’s to come. The author introduces the reader to the story’s premise and several important characters.

Judith Ashton Stanton is a war widow who is alone in the world after also suffering the deaths of her brothers as well as her parents. She has a brief encounter with Dr. Roman Turner when he visits Philadelphia from Minneapolis, and they discover they share some interests. But it’s not until four years later, when their paths cross again in Minneapolis, that they have the potential not only for friendship but more.

Judith’s reason for coming to Minneapolis is at the demand of her grandfather, who sweetens the pot to get her to agree to visit and learn about his business dealings. He was estranged from her family for many years, and she never knew him or even knew that he was still alive. Judith is to be his heir and inherit his fortune and businesses. But when she learns how he’s cheated others for financial gain and has no remorse, she knows if she’s really his heir, she will do good instead and also right many wrongs.

There are biblical quotes and Bible stories woven throughout, since Judith is a woman of deep faith, as are some others. The church she, Roman, and others worship in plays a role. There is a depth to many of the characters, and I enjoyed their friendships and some of the family dynamics.

There is a good flow to the story, and attention is paid to the many details presented, especially those pertaining to the poor and the many orphans. There is a little romance along with learning about the area and the role businesses play. Many stories are being told, woven together nicely and sometimes unexpectedly. There is closure with the epilogue and a nicely portrayed happily ever after. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to be released.

Faithful of Heart is filled with caring individuals who devote their time and effort to helping those in need.

Tracie Peterson is well known for her historical novels and sweeping series, and this story takes us to the early development of Minnesota during the 1800s. The novel begins with a chance meeting between Judith and Roman — and then fades away, picking back up about four years later.

I’ll be honest — I tried to read this book several times, but it just seemed to drag for me. I ended up setting it aside and reading five other books before finally coming back to it. This one simply didn’t capture my interest the same way others have.

Part of that may be because Judith felt almost… flawless. Yes, she struggles with commitment and matters of the heart, but overall she’s very “practically perfect in every way.” I tend to connect more with characters who feel a little messier and more relatable, so I found it harder to fully invest in her story.

That said, if you’re looking for a tale that highlights faith, perseverance, and living for Jesus no matter the circumstances, you will likely enjoy this novel. Messages of faith are thoughtfully woven throughout, and even though I didn’t love the book, I still found myself highlighting a few powerful passages:

"A Christian is called upon to forgive and forget."
"Forgive, yes. But forgetting is far more difficult, and I might say, both require divine assistance. People are not easily given to forgetting the wrong done to them."

Isn’t that the truth? 💛

"I know that God has the world in His hands," Judith continued. "I know that He sees each sparrow fall. But why, Roman, why must the children suffer so much?"

…"I could tell you how this is a fallen world and that sin cares not for whom it harms. That the devil seeks to destroy all that God loves, but that God will have His way in the end. But I know that would not offer you comfort now."

Oof. That hits — and feels especially relevant to the world we live in today. 🌍💔

🌟 Final Verdict: 3 stars
It took me too long to fully engage, and I never quite fell in love with the characters.

That said, I will continue the series as new installments are released, hoping the next one resonates more with me!

Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC of this book. All opinions are 100% my own.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - 1866

Judith Ashton Stanford was widowed when her husband was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg. Today, she has sufficient funds to allow her to help to find ways to help widows and orphans. It is at such an event that she met Dr. Roman Turner who was visiting from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is quite taken with her intelligence, beauty and her dedication to helping others.

Judith’s grandfather is a very wealthy man in Minneapolis and her father had cut off contact with the man when he chose to marry Judith’s mother. Now, Judith’s parents and siblings are gone as well. She receives a summons from her grandfather to go to Minneapolis so he can decide if she is worthy of inheriting his many millions of dollars as he is dying of heart failure. While she stalls at going, he offers her money for her charities for her to come and she agrees. Judith is angry when she learns how her grandfather has cheated people out of money using crooked deals.

She hoped to meet up with Dr. Turner again and is delighted when she does so. He works to help the poor and along with his family and church members is doing all he can to help orphans and the poor. He and Judith begin to work together to find ways to help people. In the meantime, she is trying to help her grandfather find God so he can be welcomed into Heaven when he passes away.

This book has lots of strong and interesting characters along with other stories going along in the book. I found it a fascinating and satisfying read and I know readers will be enthralled with this book by this very talented author. Enjoy!

“Well, for a time after we marry, you’re the only soul I want to see.” “You’ll see me so much you’ll be desperate to flee,” Judith murmured. “That will never happen. I want to be at your side every day for the rest of my life.”

This wonderful second chance love story is filled with strong faith themes, a little suspense, and a sweet slow-burn romance.

Judith is intelligent, determined, and caring. She knows her mind and does what needs to be done to help those in need. I loved her bold witness to her grandfather and the relationship she was able to build with him. I loved her determination to right her grandfather’s wrongs. I really enjoyed her friendship with Mary. Roman is devoted to his family and bettering the lives of the poor. He is intelligent and kind. I enjoyed the glimpses of his family time, his mother and sister were wonderful. I loved the forgiving spirit he was able to find. I loved the friendship that Roman and Judith built. I enjoyed their shared charity work and the connection it gave them. I enjoyed the gentle growth of their love and how they both embraced it wholeheartedly. And what a sweet epilogue!

A few more quotes:
“When I first met you, I must say I was rather captivated. I’ve thought a lot about you over the years.” “I’ve thought about you as well.” “I believe God orchestrated that meeting.”

“I never thought love was possible for me. I presumed God had called me to a life of being single. I thought my purpose was to offer my services and help better the lives of others.” “I thought God had called me to the same. Perhaps, we can answer that call together?”

“I have no ring and no fortune, but my heart is clearly yours for the taking. Would you do me the honor of agreeing to marry me?”

Judith has done well for those who are in need in Philadelphia but there is always a need for more. So when she gets summoned by her unknown grandfather to visit him in Minnesota she can hardly resist when it comes with a hefty donation to her a charity of her choice. Leaving things in capable hands, she heads to Minneapolis to see about her grandfather and his desire to get to know her now that he is on his deathbed. She makes it quite clear that she has not care to inherit all of his wealth, she doesn't need it and has done well out east with fundraising and helping those who most need it. As she learns more, she realizes that his wealth has come from wronging many families out of land and contracts and decides on what she must do to fix what he has done to the Ashton name. Mr Black, his very loyal lawyer has had his eye on this wealth and decides to guarantee his fortune by courting and then marrying Judith. Having no care to court let alone marry him, Judith makes it very clear that she has no interest in him in that way but he won't take no for an answer. As Mr. Ashton's deathbed nears, him and Judith have come to an understanding of each other and Judith knows she will be able to right the many wrongs once she inherits the wealth, but there is one person who is out to undo everything she has done since coming here and will do whatever it takes to get what they want. I enjoyed the strong character that Judith was in this story. Thank you to the author and publisher for the complementary novel. Thank you to Great Reads Book Promo for the tour invite. Faithful of Heart by Tracie Peterson is the first book in the Minnesota Legacy Series. This is a Christian historical story that takes place after the Civil War. Following the death of her husband in the war and the death of her parents, Judith is living a quiet life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania doing charity work to help widows and orphans following the Civil War. She meets Dr. Roman Turner from Minneapolis, Minnesota but does not keep in touch with him. When she is summoned by her estranged Grandfather Ashton to stay with him during his final days in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she agrees to stay til the end of the summer if he helps her charities and attends church with her. While she is staying with him, she gets involved with the ladies from church and their charity work. It is here she meets Roman’s mother and sister.
This story is so good. I really enjoyed how Judith spends her time helping others. I especially enjoyed how she devoted her time to find out who her grandfather hurt in his business dealing and how she wanted to make amends for that. I liked how caring she is towards his household workers and cares for them. I appreciate how Roman cares for others instead of building his medical practice. I like how she and Roman still think of each other after all this time and how they are given the chance to grow a relationship. I found the part of his moving past his anger toward Judith’s grandfather for what happened to his family to be so inspirational.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.

Faithful of Heart is the first book in a new series by Tracie Peterson, one of the finest writers in her genre.

The premise of the story is that dedicated chairty leader Judith is settled in her widowed life in Pennsylvania, living from a trust fund left by her late father, immersed in good works.

She receives a shocking invitation to visit her grandfather in Minnesota, which she declines. Her grandfather disowned the family when his son married a woman he felt beneath him. Judith wants nothing to do with him. When her grandather offers a huge donation to one of Judith’s charities, she agrees to visit. But during the trip, learns the older man is dying of a heart condition.

While on the trip, Judith reconnects with doctor Roman Turner, a man she’d met some years earlier, only to discover he despises her wider family because her grandfather swindled his own father out of a small fortune. The sparks fly but how could these two ever reconcile all the harm done?

Tracie Peterson is at the top of her game for a reason. She writes brilliant characters you want to be friends with, puts them in really tricky situations and reels you in as the work out how to overcome. The faith element is strong, which I love, but the obstacles kept me guessing as to how this woud all shake out. I definitely recommend this story to anyone who enjoys historical romances.

I received a copy of Fairest of Heart from the publisher via NetGalley. The views are all my own.

I normally really enjoy this author's historical fiction books. I listened to the audio-version of this book and, although enjoyable, I didn't care for it as much as others. The heroine, Judith, at first seemed a bit cold, uncaring and lacking the forgiveness that is a part of her faith. This did improve as time went on, but I just never grew to really enjoy her character. Judith has devoted herself to charity, especially the well-being of families left devastated by the Civil war. Her parents have died as has her husband. When she receives an invitation to visit her paternal grandfather in Minneapolis, she is hesitant to go. He cut off and disinherited Judith's father over his choice of a wife. The main male character is Roman, a physician, who also has a heart for the poor. He lost his own father after a man (later revealed to be Judith's grandfather) cheated him of his land/wealth. He feel drawn to Judith but really wants nothing to do with a woman related to the man who was responsible for his own father's death. The story was a bit predictable as to their relationship. It was interesting to read about the early days in Minneapolis. No sex, no profanity, a strong Christian message.

I absolutely adore Tracie Peterson's writing style and was super excited to see this latest book pass across my desk. I was eager to begin reading and jumped right in, sacrificing the story I had been reading by another author to pick up this one. And I was not disappointed! As usual, Peterson weaves a tale of romance and historical fiction, bringing her story to life through descriptive visuals and relatable scenarios. She always does an amazing job of researching the era in which her stories unfold, and this was no exception. Her latest book, the first in a new series, was beautifully written and easy to read. I was drawn into the story from the start and felt that main character Judith was well developed and relatable. The story elements of philanthopy in the Minneapolis of 1870 were enlightening and informative, giving me a glimpse of something I had no knowledge of prior to reading. Overall, Peterson has once again written an award-worthy story that will captivate readers and fans of historical fiction. Well done!

Faithful of Heart by Tracie Peterson is an intriguing story. One that brings forgiveness when it is hardest.

Widow Judith Ashton Stanford has been summoned by her dying grandfather. She wants nothing to do with him and refuses at first, as James Ashton Sr. disinherited her family years ago. She eventually is persuaded to travel from Philadelphia to Minneapolis to meet him.

Dr. Roman Turner met Judith four years ago on a trip. His family was swindled by James Ashton years ago. He has had a grudge against Ashton for 10 years. When Roman meets Judith again he is shocked to learn the woman he's thought about all these years is related to the one man he can't forgive.

Although the story was slow at times, it is a clean faith based historical fiction. A tale of redemption, forgiveness and romance.

This is the first book in a new series, A Minnesota Legacy. A Christian read that held me captive, and thus page turning for answers.
A young woman with such a heart for our Lord, and thus she lived her faith, and went about helping others.
Will being with an absent Grandfather change her? He is wealthy beyond thinking, and at the expense of others. Will she be accepted in this small community, once they know of her relationship?
We are offered a few suitors, and man that used to getting his own way, even to the end! Also some sweet romance!
This read is so beautifully written, I never wanted for it to end, but there will be another book in this series coming next year!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.

Faithful of Heart is the first book of a new two-book series, A Minnesota Legacy, by Tracie Peterson. Ms. Peterson has not let her fans of historical romance down with this book of the new series. If you like family sagas, this is the series for you. As always. Ms. Peterson has done her research and sets the reader right in the middle of the 1870’s. Her characters are always strong and hold to their convictions, and the romance is always sweet. The romance in Faithful of Heart is actually in the background, with Judith’s Christian walk and her desire to see her grandfather being saved as the main focus of the story. This reader can not wait for the sequel, which will focus on Judith and Roman’s daughter.

I received an ARC ebook from NetGalley and the publisher, Bethany House, in exchange for an honest review.

Historical fiction at its finest! I loved Judith and Roman and their sweet, slow romance. I loved that the romance wasn’t the main storyline in this story, but the relationship between Judith and her grandfather. I enjoyed that there was a heavy influence of faith and that Judith was so strong in her beliefs. The characters were well written and the storyline was easy to binge.

Who else loves historical fiction with amazing faith content? 😍

About the book:
Set in 1870s Minneapolis, this story follows philanthropist and charity worker Judith Stanford, who unexpectedly receives a summons from her estranged grandmother, challenging her to prove her worth as the heir to her vast fortune. Judith crosses paths with Roman Turner, a local doctor passionate about caring for the poor and needy— the only man she has been interested in since her husband’s death.
However, Judith’s grandfather swindled Roman’s father, causing great tragedy for their families and leaving Roman bitter. Can Judith and Roman find forgiveness and peace between their families? Can Judith undo the damage caused by her grandfather’s greed and tainted legacy before someone else tries to take control of the fortune?

My thoughts:
This book contains such strong faith content! I loved following Judith and Roman’s sweet story. I appreciated how both main characters genuinely cared for the poor and needy and worked together to find reconciliation and forgiveness amid the chaos of Judith’s grandfather’s unfair business dealings. While I sometimes found it difficult to connect with Judith’s character, I admired her unwavering commitment to living for God, no matter the circumstances.
