Skin Sessions #7

All Hell Breaks Loose

Rate this book
This is book #7 in the Skin Sessions series. It is strongly recommended to read them in order.

Corbin is dead. Gavin is no longer human. Grimfang is lost in the pits of hell. David is losing his ability to remain in human form, and Dillon is beyond angry. Aiden still seems oblivious to the dangers of living with demons.

Scotty and Otto are still finding fun in each other's appendages, and Davinci and Ari have made a name for themselves with all their spectacular shows. Denham and Lucas are completing their year at the university, but Marty is becoming increasingly anxious about his grandfather, Lucifer.

Mickey's pool is finally finished, but what's that glow?

And the world is ending; that much has become painfully clear. Satan harbors a growing resentment and feels like he's been played by the purveyors of favours, and now the City Council is coming for an inspection.

This isn't what the boys of The Unicorn's Horn had signed up for. It's all going to hell. Does Taz-rial really have a plan? Has he told lies and kept secrets? Was the cost much more than anyone bargained for?
Only time will tell, and the clock is ticking...

J.P. Jackson

J.P. Jackson is an award winning author of dark urban fantasy, paranormal, and even paranormal romance stories, but regardless of the genre they always feature LGBTQ+ main characters.

J.P. works as an IT analyst in health care during the day, where if cornered he’d confess to casting spells to ensure clinicians actually use the electronic medical charting system he configures and implements.

At night, the writing happens, where demons, witches and shape shifters congregate around the kitchen table and general chaos ensues. His husband of 22 years has very firmly put his foot down on any further wraith summonings and regularly lines the doorway with iron shavings and salt crystals. Imps are most definitely not house-trainable. Ghosts appear at the most inopportune times, and the Fae are known for regular visits where a glass of wine is exchanged for a good ole story or two. Although the husband doesn’t know it, Canela and Jalisco, the two Chihuahuas, are in cahoots with the spell casting.

J.P.’s other hobbies include hybridizing African Violets (thanks to grandma), extensive travelling and believe it or not, knitting.

“As soon as he was within touching distance, I thrust my talons and furred arm out to my beast. My Grimfang.”

I’m not ready to leave these characters, I need so much more!

I love how, slowly, all the humans became monsters and creatures of the night. How each monster was pretty perfectly fitted to the person. With Mickey becoming a naiad, it fitted him perfectly as well as giving him a chance to heal mentally. Gavin emerges from his cocoon and honestly him becoming what he does is perfect for his character too.

How Corbin morphs into more of his true self after his shocking ending at the end of the last instalment, honestly Corbin no matter how morbid will probably always be one of my favourites.

However I need more on Aiden and Dillon, I need to know there choices and the transformation Aiden took worked. I know there is one more small instalment to come and I am ready for it. There’s still a few plays left to make and I can’t wait for the last piece to tie them up.

When Gavin and Grim reunite and the way they come together is so perfect, I love the relationship these two have and how they will do literally anything to protect one another.

I loved every second with these boys. Even though it is a pleasure den I love how these boys are as a family. Jagged and broken but whole and loving all at the same time.

“Worry not, demon. I am yours. Wholly. To use, however you want. Both Gavin and you may ask anything of me. I belong to both you, to this house, to the men here. That I promise you.”

Skin Session: All Hell Breaks Loose is the seventh installment in the series, and like the others, it’s a short story. A quick read but filled with atmosphere. As always, Jackson delivers dark, sensual writing that pulls you in. This particular entry doesn’t dive as deep into plot, which makes sense as we near the end of the saga. I believe there’s only one more installment to go.

While this wasn’t the most interesting chapter, it serves an important purpose: setting the stage for the finale. It’s more about positioning the characters and preparing for the finale. I’m especially eager to see what happens to Gavin as he’s the one character I feel the most connected to.

Jackson continues to impress with his ability to juggle a large cast without losing track of anyone. Every character gets some screen time, and the continuity across all seven stories is seamless.

I’m genuinely excited for the conclusion. I’m hoping the end will deliver and be dark, sexy, and unforgettable.

Well done, Jackson. Well done.
