Lucky Penny is book two in The Hometown series, however it can be read as a stand alone novel. Ten years ago, they were inseparable—until she left for college and he went to prison.
Now there’s only one thing that can get Penny Hanson to return to her hometown of her little sister. So when her sister finds herself in an unexpected crisis, Penny does what she does best—drops everything to fix other people’s messes.
But nothing ever goes according to plan.
Like discovering her sister’s new roommate is Jesse Rivers… her tattooed, painfully gorgeous ex she’s spent ten years trying to forget. The one who broke her heart. And the one who still knows how to undo her with a single smirk.
With only a wall between them, years of unspoken words, and a secret neither of them dare to bring up, Penny soon realizes that this holiday season is about to get dangerously complicated. Because no matter how tempting Jesse looks, she refuses to make the same mistake twice.
Lucky Penny is a story of unfinished love, unhealed wounds, and the kind of second chance that refuses to stay buried. Raw, emotional, and full of angst, this book is for anyone who’s ever wondered what if.
Katherine has been crafting stories since she learned to write. She has a passion for story-telling, all things romance, and loves a gritty character.
When she isn’t thinking up the next binge-worthy love story, she is probably taking pictures of her pitbull or rewatching The Office for the 400th time.
based on the blurb i expected him to just be getting out of prison in time for their second chance reunion but no! he’s been out for 7 YEARSSSSS and never went after her. he just finally decided to “stop running”
she went from hating him to getting back together in 5 DAYS after a 10 YEAR SEPARATION that’s wild idc
I really love Katherine’s writing style! It always feels so authentic and unique, while also pulling me into the world she’s writing! Jesse and Penny had me falling hard! I was rooting for them immediately. That first scene with them.. I could feel the angst and emotion overflowing already! With each page I was cheering them on more and more.
I love a second chance with a dual timeline! Having the chapters that gave us their back story woven into their current story is always a favorite for me! And this was done so well!! I feel like it added so much to the story being told in this way — it had me devouring these chapters!!
Penny was super relatable and I honestly loved her so much!! She takes on so much responsibility, and never expects anyone to help her or take care of her.. she’s just the one who needs to take care of everyone else. It was so easy to love her character. And Jesse? I mean this man.. how could you not love him? He’s the definition of a GOOD MAN. Finding out what happened when they were younger on that night had me in tears. Learning why he stayed away and moved to CA? More tears. This was such a wholesome, heartwarming story. I cannot wait for Fia’s story!!! 🫶🏼
Second Chance Secret Relationship Brother’s Best Friend Forced Proximity High School Sweethearts Slow Burn
I absolutely loved this book! I loved the dual timeline and seeing the past love between them and the ‘now’ love starting to flourish again! This was such a heartwarming read, and I really enjoyed it.
Okay, I’m so sorry but our FMC Penny was insufferable for the first half of the book! But I think that’s what makes this book so great, is the growth, maturity and turn around that we see from her!
Jesse.. a man that yearns is a man that earns!! What a man. Damn. 10/10 no words, perfect 👏🏼I just know this man is HOT
I definitely recommend this book to others who enjoy; 💖small town romance 💖brothers best friend 💖secret tattoos 💖protective and yearning MC
I read this on my kindle and highlighted so many passages because they were so great!
I can’t wait to read Fia’s story 💖💖

Sparks turn into flames, Jesse and Penny quickly realise that what they once had isn’t lost and now they’re on their journey to loving each other again.
Release date: 8th October 2025 ARC read through Beyond the Books PR
Loved this. Def hit close to home in a few ways, which made me love it even more. But dang, this was written so well and I can’t stop thinking about these guys <3
I was so excited and surprised to stumble on a (signed) copy of this book. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
First, Katherine Bitner’s dedication to “all the women whose strength has been mislabeled as anger, I see you. This is for you,” somewhat prepared me for the adventure ahead. Or at least, I knew I was going to identify with our FMC, Penny, from literal page one. (Insert eldest daughter trauma. )
Secondly, I’m kind of an NC snob, if a book (or show) “takes place” in NC, the geography better make sense (I’m looking at you, OBX, and Where the Crawdads Sing). Katherine, being a North Carolinian herself, naturally gets it right. (Tips hat.)
Okay – about the book:
I loved it. Penny and the book itself are like sweet and sour candy. She is trying so hard to be strong and hold everything together for her family. And the book balances both the sweet and bittersweet so realistically.
The pacing was so intense and perfect, partly because of the dual POV between the MMC, Jesse, and Penny, and their dual flashbacks threaded throughout. The storyline was so well thought out, “friends to lovers,” isn’t my fave trope, but the rawness and chemistry between Jesse and Penny might have changed my mind.
This is technically book two in a related series, that can be read as standalone novels. I’m eager for the next one to come out, and in the meantime I’m going to read more of Katherine Bitner’s books! I quickly and enthusiastically ate Lucky Penny up, easily five stars!
I knew nothing about this one before diving in and it worked out really well. I loved Penny's and Jesse's story. Penny and Jesse were separated by heartbreaking circumstances and I enjoyed reading how they reconnected and made peace with the past. However, the only thing I didn't love was the fact that the ending didn't mention anything of Danny.
Look, I called this back in August and now finishing the book - I predicted correctly. Five stars. This is, hands down, my FAVORITE book of Katherine's. JESSE MO-FREAKIN'-RIVERS !??!?!?
Also, did I get emotional throughout this book and nearly cry towards the end? Yes. Yes, I did.
Things I loved & ate up like CANDY
🖤 The contrast between Penny & Jesse 🖤 TANK. #purebredgoodboi 🖤 the banter between Fi + Jesse 🖤 The inner struggle that Penny went through + how real/authentic it felt. (I'm a sucker for a messy FMC because it's something that shouldn't be taboo) 🖤 The FIRM stance on not wanting children. I'm a mommah to two beautiful humans and I LOVE THAT FOR ME - but I hate that all stories aren't more inclusive to women who don't want children but still love children. <3 🖤 The raw relationship struggles between three siblings; again, relatability 🖤 THE SPICE >>>>>>>>>>> 🖤 "good girl" by Jesse-mo-freakin-RIVERS 🖤 The dual timeline - I'm not the biggest fan of dual timelines, however, Katherine's way of weaving it in felt methodical, well planned out and intentional to really give the reader maximum impact for the storyline.
Things I WANTED MORE OF 🖤 Tank >>> 🖤 More of Danny's story (AND I HOPE THAT THERE WILL BE A DANNY BOOK!?????!!!) 🖤 More of Tank 🖤 Did I mention Tank?
;)
some of my favorite quotes, mainly by Jesse, BUT HE'S AMAZING OKAY?
"Some things I never wanted to forget, some stories are permanent."
"Princess, I thought I made it pretty damn clear. I want every hour of every {} day with you."
"Yeah, see, that wasn't a suggestion. It was a command."IS IT GETTING HOT IN HERE?
"Unfortunately, I dated this girl in high school, total drama queen."
Absolutely GORGEOUS! A Small Town, Second Chance Gem (ARC Review)
Lucky Penny is a heartwarming, emotionally resonant, and utterly satisfying second-chance romance. I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy, and it was my first read by Katherine Bitner, but it certainly won't be my last—she is officially an auto-buy author for me! This book hits all the right notes for small-town romance lovers. Penny returns home after a decade, reeling from a heartbreak that ended with ten years of separation from Jesse. She’s focused on healing old wounds with her family, only to find herself unexpectedly forced into a roommate situation with the man who broke her heart and still holds a piece of it.
The premise alone is fantastic, but the execution is what truly shines. Bitner tackles the heavy themes of past trauma, miscommunications, and the effort required to rebuild bonds with such grace and honesty. Jesse and Penny's journey isn't easy; they have real scars, real faults, and ten years of history to unpack. However, the deep, foundational love and the palpable yearning between them is what makes this book impossible to put down. The swoon factor is off the charts as they navigate mending the past and forging a hopeful future.
Jesse quickly jumped onto my list of favorite book boyfriends—he’s complex, protective, and so clearly devoted. But Penny’s resilience and her journey toward self-forgiveness are equally compelling.
This story is more than just a romance; it’s about choosing hope, bearing the pain of old uncertainties, and realizing that sometimes, digging up old scars is the only way to truly heal and move forward. A perfect 5/5 read that leaves you feeling lighter and full of optimism. Highly, highly recommend!
This definitely isn’t your typical second chance romance, it’s deeper, heavier, full of family bonds, and gave me feelings that completely caught me off guard. I was literally texting my siblings halfway through just to tell them I loved them.
Set on the North Carolina coast, (which I’m a total sucker for with it being my home state), the setting alone pulled me right in. It’s sweet, wholesome, and full of sibling love, heartbreak, and that kind of connection that never really lets go of you.
Jesse’s had a rough go at life, a little guarded and a little lost, but when he loves, he loves. And the princess nickname??Just felt perfect for penny. 💗 the flashbacks & dual pov between the two of them is really what had me connected. Plus adding sweet Tank to the mix was just the cherry on top.
Katherine’s writing style is soo easy to sink into. It’s not overly dramatic, just steady and emotional in a way that stays with you. Honestly this book is the perfect transition read from summer to fall.
such a big thanks to Beyond the Books and Katherine for the e-ARC ✨ I seriously cannot wait for Fia’s book next. I really can’t wait to read about her sweet baby & second chance at love.
This book was so well written! I’ll be honest—I was a little nervous going in since I haven’t read the first book in the series, but that worry disappeared pretty quick. There wasn’t too much focus on the previous couple, so it was super easy to get attached to these characters right from the start.
I absolutely loved Jesse and Penny! The way their story jumps between past and present kept me hooked the whole time. The twists, the emotions, the growth—it was all so good. And can we talk about Tank and Fia? I loved how Jesse’s dog and Penny’s sister were such an important part of his life and how that dynamic added to his relationship with Penny instead of causing any drama. It made their story even sweeter.
Watching both Jesse and Penny grow and finally get their happy ending was so satisfying. I seriously can’t wait for Fia’s book next! She’s been through a lot, and I just know her story is going to be amazing. And those little glimpses of their brother Danny? Loved them—I hope we see more of him as the series goes on!
Huge thank you for the ARC—I had such a fun time reading this one! If you love a story full of heart, family bonds, and a couple who truly earn their happiness, definitely add this one to your TBR. ❤️
Ahhh, I was practically begging to be an ARC reader for this, and it DID NOT disappoint. Jesse?? Oh my. He’s everything- steadfast, sexy, and good with dogs. Yes.
Penny is so relatable as an eldest born daughter who feels that succeeding is the only way to be worthy after a lifetime of abandonment. The two of them together? Amazing.
Katherine captures the small moments that are hard to describe, the tiny touches, the gnawing in your chest, the wanting something so badly, and the talking yourself into and then out of it again. It’s reality.
The path to love is never straight, but this story gives readers all the love, spice, and longing. Highly recommend.
This was really well done! To be honest, at first I didn’t really like Penny because of how she acts, but as the story goes on, I understand why she’s like that. I couldn’t help but love her.
It’s dual POV, and I love how Penny and Jesse’s POVs are balanced. It really lets me see what both of them are thinking.
There are still a few things I wish I could see more of, but it doesn’t take away much from the overall experience.
What a ride! The author takes us through the story of Penny and Jesse in a multi-pov story that weaves heartbreak, chemistry, second chances and the holidays effortlessly.
Penny is a fixer, a typical caretaker who wants to step in and solve family issues, especially her sister Fia’s. She’s made a name for herself as a wedding photographer, leaving her home of Wilmington after chaos and bad choices tore most of her family apart years ago. Fia calls, telling Penny she’s pregnant and the dad has removed himself from the situation. Penny drops everything to return home and try to fix her sister and solve all the problems.
Que Jesse. Penny’s former best friend, and first love she never really got over.
The chemistry, the tattoos, the dog. The author delivers Jesse in a messily wrapped bag of “what ifs” for Penny.
She wants to wrap up all problems and sell the house her sister lives in. Jesse wants a fresh start.
This book delivers on the feelings, and the heat. I was so lucky to be an ARC reader and read this story early! If tattooed bad boys with a heart of gold, large rescue dogs, secret releationships with the brothers best friend, and small towns are your jam this one’s for you! 🫶
3.5 stars for me. Penny Hanson return to her hometown for Christmas and check on her little sister. What she didn't expect is that her ex best friend/secret boyfriend Jesse is living in her childhood home. They didn't see each other in ten years, science he broke his promises to Penny, and land in jail with her twin brother. This living under one roof looks like it will be more painful, than ten years without each other.
Will Penny and Jesse survive living in one house? Will they find closure and forgive each other?
It was a fast and cute book about second chances. I like the then and now POV , it was not confusing, and explain a lot about the relationships and dynamics in the family.Hope to read more author further work. If you like second chance romance with little bit drama this book is for you.
Oh my heart. 💔😭 Jesse and Penny… wow. Their love never truly faltered, even when life, pain, and time tried to bury it. It was always there—quietly waiting—just needing the right moment to be rediscovered. This book had me in tears one second and grinning like a fool the next. 🥹💞
Ten years ago, Penny Hanson and Jesse Rivers were inseparable—until everything fell apart. She left for college, and he went to prison. 😢 Fast forward a decade, and Penny returns home to help her sister during a crisis… only to discover that her sister’s new roommate is none other than Jesse. Her tattooed, gorgeous, still-heartbreaking ex. 🖤🔥 With only a wall between them and years of silence separating their hearts, Penny and Jesse are forced to confront the pain, secrets, and lingering love that never really went away.
It was raw, emotional, and so beautifully written. Katherine Bitner has such a gift for crafting characters you feel deeply connected to—I honestly felt like I was living this story with them. ❤️
The plot gave us their backstory—young love, hidden from Penny’s twin brother Danny, their dreams of a future together—and the heartbreaking way it all fell apart when Danny got mixed up in drugs and Jesse’s life unraveled. In the present, it was all about second chances: the messy, painful, breathtaking journey of forgiveness, love, and hope. 🌹✨ There were ups and downs, moments that crushed me, realizations that healed me, and an ending that left me smiling through tears.
If you love your romances with angst, small-town heart, and a good dose of second-chance yearning, this book is for you. 💌
Tropes you’ll love in Lucky Penny: 💔 Second-chance romance 🏡 Small-town setting 🖤 Bad boy with a broken past 📷 Caretaker heroine (Penny the photographer!) 👫 Forbidden love (secret relationship with her brother’s best friend) 🤐 Family drama & secrets 🌲 Forced proximity (hello, housemate tension!) 💞 Emotional healing + forgiveness
Even writing this review, I’m getting emotional. 🥺 Jesse, Penny, Danny, Fia—they all felt so real, and they all deserve their own happy endings. I already can’t wait for Fia’s story next (and please let Danny get a book too 🙏).
Thank you so much to Katherine Bitner and Beyond the Books for the ARC opportunity. 💕
This book is exactly the kind of romance that sneaks up on you in the best way. I laughed out loud more times than I can count, and there were moments that genuinely brought tears to my eyes. Penny and Jesse’s story is full of warmth, second chances, and emotional honesty, and it was such a joy to watch them find their way back to each other.
Their chemistry pops off the page, the banter is perfection, and the emotional beats land beautifully. This is the kind of book that wraps around your heart and stays with you long after you finish. A perfect blend of humor, heart, and just the right amount of spice.
If you love second-chance romance with depth, laughter, and swoony moments, Lucky Penny is a must-read.
I was given this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This review is 100% honest and my own opinions. I was not paid for this review
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 This book was so cute. I loved the time jumps from then to now. Jesse and Penny are truly meant for each other regardless of how stubborn they can be. This book was incredible and made my heart feel whole. There was just a little bit of spice, but it was good spice. I can’t wait for the rest of this series.
I think Katherine Bitner may just be my new favorite author. This book was amazing just like the first book in this series. She is really good at making the stories she writes relatable as well as pulls you through all the feels. I loved reading Penny & Jesse’s story!
This book was an absolutely heartwarming read that completely swept me away! The author masterfully uses a dual timeline, letting us fully immerse in the initial spark of their past love and the beautiful way their connection reignites in the present. I loved seeing that 'now' love begin to flourish again.

Character Growth & Jesse the Hero
Admittedly, I struggled a bit with our FMC, Penny, for the first half; she was almost insufferable with her anger and angst! But honestly, that's what makes this book so good—the incredible arc of growth, maturity, and complete turnaround we see from her is genuinely rewarding.
And then there's Jesse. What a man. The phrase "a man that yearns is a man that earns" was clearly written for him! He is 10/10 no words, perfect. The yearning, the protection, the clear, raw emotion—I know this man is hot. He's an instant book boyfriend.
The plot follows Penny, an independent and successful business owner, who returns to her charming hometown when her younger sister announces a pregnancy. The tension immediately amps up when Penny discovers her sister's new housemate is none other than Jesse, her first love.
Penny is initially filled with angst and anger toward her high school sweetheart. Their relationship ended abruptly and painfully ten years ago when he went to prison just before she left for college, resulting in a complete severance of ties. Now, her sister, Fia, is desperately trying to play matchmaker and get the two to simply get along.
Predictably (and thankfully!), the sparks quickly turn into flames. Jesse and Penny realize the powerful connection they once shared was never truly lost, setting them on a beautiful journey to finding love again
Why You Should Read It
I highly recommend this book, especially for those who enjoy:
Small Town Romance vibes Brother's Best Friend dynamic The delicious tension of Protective and Yearning MCs
I'm already eagerly anticipating Fia's story next!
This was like a warm hug in a book. Young love that gets shattered and yet somehow, repaired in the end. Because they’re just each others person. I loved the dual timelines and the moments of secrecy. And the stories of Jesse’s tattoos. And Penny seemed so familiar to me. Her big sister energy, her love of pink, and having a big life plan. I really enjoyed this story.
Earlier this year I read the 1st book of this series, called 'Unravel me', which really impressed me. I was keen on reading this 2nd one and I wanna thank the author and Beyond the Book Pr for accepting me for this e-ARC!
This book had a dual time of Penny and Jesse's love story. They had a cute and innocent romance story during their high school years, but something didn't go so well for Jesse and that broke everything they had built until then.
In the present days, Penny had to come back to her hometown, after being away for ten years. She needed to take care of her sister, after finding out that she was going to be a single mom. But Penny had no idea that she was about to see again her first love too. Jesse also found out about Fia's situation and he was now trying his best to reconcile things with her sister, Penny. Will they be willing to accept the past and bury the hatchet of war?
I felt pretty sorry for Penny and her though life. She was the one who had to be responsible for her siblings, Fia and Danny, but that wasn't an easy job at all. When Jesse appeared into her life, she felt that connection to him, probably because he was a tormented soul too. Their past was a bit complicated but the present was even more so, because of those pilled up feelings and because of Fia's state. Jesse was a changed man now and that made Penny's job so much harder, being impossible to not stir that fire inside her. But can she overcome her hurt and give him another chance?
An emotional and complicated love story, one which will make you wonder what exactly has happened there, why were they in that state of not being able to be in each other's presence. It was pretty captivating, being curious about their past story and what was going to happen with them in the present too. A great read!
As an ARC reader for Lucky Penny, I am writing this without bias.
Lucky Penny is such a heartfelt small-town romance about love, family, and second chances. This story follows Penny who I fell in love with as the best friend and soul sister from book one in The Hometown series ( I highly recommend reading Unravel Me if you have not yet.) As the older sister, Penny drops all her plans to help her younger sister in a time of need, only to be met with more secrets than she could handle. That secret being Jesse and the past she kept hidden for ten years. What starts as bickering and HOT HOT tension slowly turns into something deeper as old feelings and hidden truths resurface.
I have to say the story of Penny and Jesse has become one of my top favorite book couples.
Jesse is such a deep character. With his past choices setting him back and losing the girl he loved the most, he has persevered. His character specifically is what made me love this book the way I do. He's complicated and dark but with golden retriever energy. Maybe we should say Jesse has pitbull energy I think that fits him better. Rough exterior but a heart of gold. His love for Penny is rooted as deep as the willow tree from their childhood.
I have followed Katherine's work since the beginning and I am so astonished and proud of how far her writing has come. Her writing is unique to her and the way she is able to have you feel so deeply for her characters is what sets her apart from other authors.
She was able to capture the bittersweet feeling of coming home and realizing that sometimes the love you left behind never really left you. It’s warm, funny, and emotional. Sometimes that love can hurt and other times you just need a little hope. This story will leave you in tears and if your anything like me even after a second read you will still cry.
I was given the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book. 🤍
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️
I read this book in 3 days..definitely binge worthy. This is a brother’s best friend trope, enemies to lovers, secret high school sweethearts, found family, second chance romance.
A couple of my favorite quotes from the book, that truly hit home for me:
“It sucks to not be able to say goodbye to someone you love,” (page 249)
“Family isn’t the blood that binds, but the hearts that open when you need it most.” (page 308)
Penny and Danny (twin siblings) take their best friend Jesse in and he not only becomes like family but Penny and Jesse grow closer and secretly in love.
Their love story is what I call true love. Through all the heartache, the secrets, the emotion I was rooting for them the entire time.
Jesse..what a man 😍 he would give and do anything for Penny. He’s so passionate..caring..family man..would literally go to jail for you. I mean, who does that?!
Penny..you were stubborn. I get why and understandably so but whew! You definitely brought suspense to the book. You remind me of myself when it comes to caring and doing for others. Fia is so lucky to have you as a big sister, Danny is very lucky to have you as his twin. Jesse, well let’s just say 🥵
I hope to read about the other characters in this series. Even though I was warned that reading the first book after the second will ruin it, I still wanna read it.
This was my first book by this author and I have to say 🤌🏻. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be an ARC reader.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Kicking my feet and giggling!!! Omg. I love Katherine's books!!! So cutesy and romantic. 🥰 I hope I run into this author since we share the same town. I wanna tell her how much I love these books. 🩷
This is a top tier second chance romance. I had never read anything by this author until reading the first book in this series yesterday. (Yes I know, two books in two days, I may be a tad bit obsessed.)
And while I loved book one, this one hit even harder, and this author has created a lifelong fan!
This story involves Penny, a true firecracker of a woman I wish I could be more like. She is successful and beautiful and the furthest thing from a door mat. But she has been running from her past in regards to family trauma and lost love for a long time, and when her younger sister needs her, she steps right in to help, going back to her hometown, and it all catches up to her.
Her sister is heavily pregnant and Penny’s lost love I mentioned is now her sister’s roommate. Phew! Enter a little drama, angst, and tension (the good and bad kind) just in time for Christmas!
Jesse is everything Penny needed, everything she lost when he broke his promise to her on a fateful day so many years ago, and everything she can never let herself want again.
This is a truly beautiful tale of second chances in both family and romance, with characters who stand up on their own and will settle right into the deepest place in your heart solo, but together, will absolutely have you rooting for love and family reunions, and as invested as if this was your family, your relationship.
And of course add in the best four legged furry boy, Tank, and you have a recipe for your next favorite read.
This author really has a way of healing you in places you didn’t know you’d been hurt, right alongside Penny and Jesse. This is one you won’t easily forget, so get ready to believe in 2nd chances and redemption, especially if you have a lucky Penny!
This is one of my favorite books I have read in 2025. From the moment I picked it up until the last page, I was hooked.
Penny - I think the character development of Penny is one of my favorite parts of this book. Her character has so many layers that need to be understood and by the end I think she is one of my favorite characters ever.
Jesse - The more that I learned about him the more I fell in love with his character. The depth, the caring, the loving, the quiet truths - everything in one package. (And loving dogs too, so sexy!!)
The flashback chapters were so helpful in not only telling the current story, but also filling in gaps that helped tie the whole thing together. High school sweetheart romances have a special place in my heart and this was no exception.
If you are looking for a quick, can’t put it down romance read, definitely add this to your TBR!
This is my first time reading the author, and I can say it's been great. The author's writing style draws you right into the story.
A story that not only features enemies to lovers but also second chances and a found family.
Penny is a girl who has achieved everything she wants through hard work. She's even the most responsible of her siblings, the one who always fixes everything... which drives her to return to Wilmington as soon as her little sister calls to tell her she's pregnant. When she arrives, she finds out her sister has a new partner, Jesse, Penny's ex.
Of course, after 10 years, during which Penny tried to forget him (which is impossible), seeing him again is like your heart skipped a couple of beats.
I understand Penny on one hand; she felt hurt, but I also understand Jesse. It wasn't his decision what happened, and he felt abandoned too 😢
The truth is that the story had me hooked from the first minute, wanting to know more, wanting to know the why of absolutely everything. I give the author ten points because she kept me hooked, and at times when Jesse was flirtatious + Penny's reactions had me giggling like a lovesick teenager. 🫣
For me, this book is a 5 ⭐️ and I recommend it if you're in the mood for a contemporary romance where you'll want the full tea (because, my friend, I saw the tea there 👀), you'll sigh, and you'll adore Tank, Jesse's dog. (Oh, Jesse trains dogs that no one wants anymore to make them adoptable... could it be any cuter? 😍) you’ll love it!
Awww stop it, 🥺 Penny & Jesse were just the sweetest and cutest, okay Tank was actually. ☺️ ...I couldn't get enough. That ending. 🥹 However their story is far from perfect. We get flashback chapters of when they were younger to understand exactly what happened that one fateful night that changed everything for over 10 years. That shattered Penny's heart. But we discover more truths under some big lies. Lies with good intentions. We don't just see Penny & Jesse grow, Penny's sister Fia is also in the story...her huge bombshell is what brought opens up these old scars. I loved this story and just seeing how these characters grow despite the events that unfolded around them. Each a different path.....but like they say, "all paths lead back home." Right ? There's a lot of hurt that requires healing for all of these characters. And we see that. I laughed, cried, and also got hungry when burger and fries were mentioned. Sounds so good right now. 🤣 But seriously I can't get my words together for this review without spoiling anything. The chemistry between these two. The tension and the emotions....I felt it all. . I'm looking forward to the next book. And definitely need to backtrack and read book 1, Unravel Me. These are standalones, but I still want to read Aubrey's story. Penny's friend. ☺️ Thank you Katherine and Beyondthebookspr for allowing me to arc read Lucky Penny. I enjoyed it and could honestly read more of these two.
