Gilles Spencer is the first son of a second son of a duke, his mother, the overbearing daughter of a French Marquess. After spending six years in France as a spy, Gilles returns to England, exhausted and shattered from a traumatic loss. Upon his return, Gilles is horrified to find himself in possession of a title and much sought after on the marriage mart. Hoping to recover from his mental and emotional injuries and to escape the ton, he flees to a recently inherited estate, Longwood. Elise DeVere spends her days in lonely isolation at Longwood. Blind and the widow of the late Earl of Cambroke, she haunts a few rooms of a fairy tale estate, like a fairy tale princess waiting to be rescued. With only a loving staff and her piano for company, Elise dreams to be touched by desire and truly loved. A few moments are all Gilles needs. Lady Elise is his. Determined to give her the life and love she deserves, he enlists the aid of his loving and boisterous family to help him woo her. To do so, he must overcome her stubbornness and help her face her fears. Unable to resist the sensual pull, Elise is determined to finally explore and revel in the physical pleasures she had long been denied before Gilles' arrival at Longwood. She's also determined to vanquish the demons that torture him at night, that only she can soothe. To do so, she must overcome his insistence to behave honorably and protect their reputations.
This book has sizzling love/sex scenes and the characters are interesting. The heroine's abilities to compensate for her blindness are compelling and learning about her 'new' family is an added bonus. I felt the emotional and psychological 'fix' for the hero was a little too easy, but overall a good book. The author is either Abigail Grave or she used the unfortunate pseudonym of 'Bawdy Book Writer' which was almost such a poor choice that I didn't read this book. Hope it stays Abigail Graves. Could use more editing, I can always overlook for a good story, but it is NOT a good thing when I notice cause I am usually oblivious. Lol.
It isn't a bad book....It is just too soppy sweet for me and over the top dramatic! I was overwhelmed with the syrupy goo gag....just too much! I understand it's a romance novel, but it was repetitive and nauseating sweet. Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know.
