Toby Dallow followed his employer, mentor, and friend, Edwin Aldridge, to the small mountain town of Stone Ridge, Colorado. While he’d never begrudge Edwin the bond he has with his wolf shifter mate, Toby longs for something like that of his own. When a handsome stranger picks him up in a grocery store, at first, he thinks it’s a joke. Learning the man is sincere, Toby takes advantage. After all, he thinks not too many sexy studs are into overweight science geeks.Blamed for something he didn’t do, Tullion Kuznetsov is on the run. Traveling back roads in search of a safe place to hole up, he stops for supplies. His vampiric senses fixate on the blood of a short, plump human browsing the cereal aisle. Drawing closer, mixed feelings assault him when he realizes he’s finally found his beloved. Unable to resist his other half’s siren call, Tullion embraces the gift Fate has given him…at least, for one night. Then, he’ll need to walk away. After all, how can he, in good conscience, involve the shy, quiet Toby in his problems?
Hmmm...while I liked this, I wanted them together more. I felt like they were apart too much. Maybe I just need these books longer so I can enjoy them more. Lately it's been they meet, mate and then it's over :( I LOVED Toby in Edwin's book. I was rooting for him to find such a kind soul to love him and I didn't feel like we got that from Tullion :( It made me sad. I wanted better for my Toby. BUT, I am SO glad Toby has his friends. THAT made my heart swell. So loyal.
One word: JARED!!!!
I think I am going to have to go back and re-read Jared's story so I can fall in love all over again.
Much like Stormy Glenn, Charlie Richards infuses her stories with just enough intrigue and endearing romance to make it possible for to me overlook bad writing. Not great, but a pleasant way to pass the time if you're in the mood for some sappy m/m shifter fun. Be warned that Richards sucks at dirty talk. The sex scenes can be a little awkward at times.
At times this seemed to go into a very good direction, but in the end things were rushed once more. As such this is not much of a romance – it’s a brief, superficial one-night stand, a parade of cameos of former and future characters (who as a whole ended up getting more interaction with Tullion than he had with Toby, almost), a lot of skipping of events and summaries. Nearly all the important stuff happens in between scenes. Well, at least there was no overflow of sex scenes, what with there being only the one. (Although that might be fairly usual for this author. I can’t recall right now.)
But yes, this had potential. I am not unhappy with how Toby’s much-anticipated story turned out, but I’m not happy with it either, since it definitely could have been a lot better.
There were moments when it seemed to me that way too much was made of his overweight body and non-model features. I find it hard to believe that Toby never once had a chance for even a kiss. Physical attraction is important to an extent, but he does not seem antisocial to me – and certainly not shy to the point of actively avoiding sexual activity.
The way Tullion viewed him did not entirely please me either. It felt more like he was making allowances, was putting up with it… in the sense of “well, it’s not that bad you aren’t good-looking; I can deal and love you the way you are” than an actual appreciation for his body. Maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be. *shrug* Or so I would think if I hadn’t seen it written nicer by others. After all, this is fluffy romance and the mate thing should, in my opinion, make it better instead of just making it easier for the better-looking guy to love his partner anyway.
In other news, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to play my Spot The Homophone Error game with this author (awesome development, really!), but something else caught my eye this time. “Coming onto someone” carries a distinctly different meaning from “coming on to someone”. I’ve seen this kind of thing frequently as of late (albeit with different verbs, where it’s less obviously amusing). A surprising number of authors (or editors) appear unable to see an on next to a to without snapping them together as though they were magnetic. I’m left to wonder whether this is the result of conditioning (like substituting whom for who in cases where it’s actually the wrong choice) or whether perhaps what I learned in school was wrong (this has happened before, too). Anyway, that’s it for today’s foray into questioning common grammatical occurrences. <3
I didn't like that Tullon walked away from his mate even knowing he is pconsidered park of pack. Then when reunited, whebglad to skip a lot of drama, there should have been a LITTLE at least for being left behind.
Well, it's it is enjoyable in a fluffy rainbows and unicorns way.
I was really looking forward to Toby getting his Happily Ever After and was excited that this was finally going to happen. But, then I read the story and feel really let down.
Yes the blurb says there is danger but none of it is shown or felt. Except for a short car chase all action is off page. There is no angst when Tullion sneaks out a window abandoning him because Toby knows a vampire will do anything to keep his beloved safe and the only drama comes from one of Tullion's brothers being a homophobic asshole.
There is a little bit of sex where Tullion partially claims Toby but the actual real claiming is mentioned afterwards.
It was nice that several pack mates made an appearance except for talking about what was found, done or needed explaining nobody really had any impact on the story.
This isn't a bad book even counting a couple of continuity issues and some repetition of words. It just isn't up to the standards I'm used to from this author. I do intend to keep up with the series in hopes she gets her mojo back.
Better than the last book, but I still feel let down at the action scenes. A book focusing on paranormal men (whether gay or straight) should have a lot more detail in the action scenes rather than summarizing them after they happen. I'm starting to wonder at the point of this series when each book basically just "summarizes" an instant hook-up that becomes "forever" with only a slight bump in the road that should normally be full of nail-biting suspense with life-changing moments. I would rather read three action-packed, suspense-filled, hot & steamy romances that build up to something than three series of never-ending fateful encounters that last only a day or so and face down challenges in the blink of an eye. Oh.. who was the bad guy? I blinked and I missed him. It's pretty sad because I really liked this author in the beginning. Deadlines and quotas smother another budding flame.
Toby Dallow had followed his friend to Stone Ridge CO. He watched his friend find a mate and knew he wanted that same closeness for himself. He just felt that no one would want an overweight science geek.
Tullion Kuznetzov is on the run for something he did not do. He stops running when he meets Toby. Toby just does it for him, but first he has to convince Toby he is sincere.
It is amazing how the Stone Ridge Pack has no problems coming to the aid of anyone they consider their own. When Tullion fell for Toby he became part of the pack. They went to bat for him in a way that will astound you.
I love Charlie Richards’ stories and this one is no exception. It seems to concentrate more on Tullion’s woes but there is plenty of loving to go around.
No relationship development - just a one night stand. Author repeatedly told us how unattractive human Toby was and that he wasn't vampire Tullion's usual type. Not much page time on couple. Focus is on parading characters from previous books.
This started off promising but then devolved in a very long (compared to the book’s length) sex scene. However , one of the MCs is overweight and sensitive about it. His traditionally gorgeous lover tells him he’s perfect and to ignore anyone who says differently. He says he’s always liked heavier men. That alone raised this book up a star.
With all that sex it was weird to have the claiming/bonding off page. I feel like this was a much longer book where they chipped off chunks and inserted summaries. Not true but it was so frustrating to just read about something important that happened off page.
One other thing I liked was the realism that one of the Russian brothers is really homophobic. I like that everything isn’t all perfect with the family.
Slightly different than the rest of this series and I liked it.
Toby becomes mates with a vampire, Tullion, who is falsely being accused of a murder he definitely did not commit. Toby was adorable and their romance was sexy and sweet, until Tullion disappears for a month (which was a bit too long to me) to get help through his family. However, Toby and his friends come to the rescue (I just love them) for Tullion and things progress from there. The plot was well done and was filled with danger, action, humor, and love. I found it to be a charming and entertaining read. =)
Lesenswert ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
over all... some of the books gave a feel of similarity, to much similarity... i would have liked to see each book stand out on its on with stronger situations... there are some that stud out, yeah, and i liked very much, there are others that should have but didn't and others that just felt a bit flat... another thing is that the got shorter and shorter, even too short, and so felt unfinished, and even if it was going to be like that a side story would have been nice after a while just to show how they are doing and in addition some books felt like it was more about the sex not the process, which frustrated me to no end, because ,yeah, even tho its ok to place those, its important to know how they reach their HEA, and the relationship has to be strong and stable to show that it will last for such a long time... personally, i like when they go though some rough times to reach the happiness deserved...
this book... i'm happy that Todd got this own mate, it was a different from the others so i liked that, and the plot was really ok. through, i think they were a bit too much apart, and even tho it felt like it was heading to a good direction it felt like it was rushed, and a few things skipped... it leaves space for the next book so am looking forward to that, makes me play the guessing name wondering who is next, lol, and even tho while i was reading this series sometimes i felt like just stopping i know that i will be reading the next one just to see what its about... ^o^
With a very instant relationship this story still has issues of self doubt and missteps. Toby and Tullion meet in a grocery store and both are attracted, but on Tullion's end he knows Toby is his beloved. Tullion wants nothing more but to be with Toby, but he is on the run after being accused and framed for murder. Toby is astonished that Tullion is interested, but can't see it being long-term because he doesn't believe himself good enough. So when it comes to how to prove Tullion's innocence the two differ in plans and it drives them apart. They have to come back together and figure out how to start planning a future as equals. Sweet couple, easy enjoyable story.
This is a sweet book about a geek who already knows about shifters – Toby – who worked in the lab that experimented on shifters without knowing what he was doing. Now, he’s considered “pack” and is in their protection.
Tullion, a vampire, is wanted for a murder he didn’t commit and is hididng in Stone Ridge when he finds Toby. They end up bumbling through their intro process and separated for awhile, but this introduces us to the next set of MCs, Tullion’s brothers.
I didn’t love this as much as some of the others in the series, but I do love how cute and funny Toby is and I like the new vampires we meet in Tullion’s family.
This is what happens when you don't pay attention to the name of the author and click 'add to cart'. Suffice to say I thought this was a different author. Imagine my utter surprise when I began reading this...um story. Oh, but you know, I finished this because hell I paid for it and I figure I read this one, I've read them all. :) Although some character, and omg I mean that as loose as penny slot machine named Bernice, mentioned a threesome pairing. So to make sure I have the formula down I added an extra penis to every fourth story.
I read this because it had the words Geek and Vampire in the title. Needless to say, I am a sucker for books with geeks and a touch of paranormal romance. It was an easy breezy read, sweet and simple. It's great for those void periods when you've just finished an amazing book and need a settle-down period.
I'm only giving this book a four because it's under 100 pages. The story is very cute but for the price there should be more story. A lot got kind of skipped over or compressed. I don't know if I'll read another from this author.
The Dedication on this book is "To discovering new ways to tell a love story. May love always conquer all." and that is what Ms Richards did. Yet another different story in her wonderful series.
