Gone in the Night

Rate this book
Morgan tries to steady her trembling hands as she enters the abandoned tent in the shadow of the mountains. The woman once lay peacefully watching the stars in the glistening night sky. But she has been dead for some time…

When a farmer reports an abandoned campsite in Rydal Falls, Detective Morgan Brookes hopes its occupants are just out enjoying the beautiful views nearby. But nothing can prepare her for the smell of death in the air, or what she finds as she crawls inside the wind-ravaged tent. A young girl has been killed in her sleeping bag, her belongings ransacked, a knife twisted into her body.

Scrolling through beautiful images of solo wild camping on Sharon Montgomery’s social media, Morgan can’t imagine who would want the sweet girl dead. But then Sharon’s mother breaks down on arrival at the morgue, admitting through choked sobs that Sharon and her stepfather had a blazing row. And Morgan soon discovers that Sharon had a boyfriend, Jack, who did everything he could to keep their relationship a secret. Both men knew where Sharon was camping, but her autopsy report details more than thirty wounds on her body. Were they angry enough to do something so brutal?

When another girl is viciously stabbed while camping alone in another picturesque spot in the mountains, the team find delicate blue fibres at the scene that connect her and Jack. But Morgan isn’t convinced. Independent and single, Lydia Williams also had Lake District beauty spots all over her social media. Is someone trying to make sure all the women in town will be scared to venture out on their own? And can Morgan get inside this killer’s mind and track them down before they claim another victim?

An absolutely addictive crime thriller with a heart-pounding twist. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Lisa Regan and Rachel Abbott.

Gone in the Night is book 16 in the Detective Morgan Brookes series by Helen Phifer. This book was amazing, unputdownable, and impossible to figure out! I loved Gone in the Night and think it's the best in the series so far! Wow!! Morgan, Ben, and the team are called to a farmer's land which he rents out to campers for a few days. He called the police because the camper was still there days after it was supposed to be gone and there was an odor coming from it of something dead. When they arrived they found a young woman dead in her sleeping bag with a knife in her chest. Who would do this and why? Sharon Montgomery followed many solo wild campers on Instagram and took part in it herself when she could. Now she's dead and won't be camping anymore.

When Sharon's parents are informed of her death, they insist it can't be their daughter. They are brought to the morgue to identify the victim and sure enough it is their daughter, Sharon. The mother breaks down and tells Morgan of the argument Sharon had with her stepfather before she left on her trip. She also mentions a boyfriend, Jack, who wanted to keep their relationship a secret. Both men could've found Sharon as she posted her location in her photos. Sharon had 30 knife wounds to her body. Whoever did this was very, very angry. When another young woman who was camping is found dead, worries begin to mount. Could this be a serial killer that preys on young women who camp? Why would anyone want to kill these young women? Good luck putting this book down once you start because you'll be obsessed with figuring out the killer. I don't know how Helen Phifer continues to make each book better than the last, but Gone in the Night is a 5 star thriller that should not be missed! The book is out now and should be added to your TBR list. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Gone in the Night in exchange for a fair review. #GoneInTheNight

This is the sixteenth installment in the Morgan Brookes series by Helen Phifer, an author who is a “must read” for me. While the books in this series do build upon each other, each one can usually be read as a stand-alone. There are a few references to earlier cases and life experiences in this one that may pique the interest of new readers and encourage them to revisit the series from the beginning.

The story begins with the gruesome discovery of a woman’s body, stabbed to death at an isolated campsite. She had shared her location on social media, leading to speculation about whether she had a stalker. When Morgan meets with the woman’s parents, she senses something amiss. The mystery deepens when it is found that the woman’s secret boyfriend is a local policeman. Tragically, another young woman, an influencer known for her constant updates, is found similarly murdered in a pop-up tent. Will Brookes’ team be able to solve the case before another woman falls victim?

The well-plotted story, a bit on the dark side, will keep readers guessing. The suspenseful and fast-paced narrative is incredibly engaging, and I couldn’t put it down. I like Morgan, a smart, capable, empathetic protagonist, and the convivial, teasing collegiality among her team. I also like her strong advocacy for women. Interspersed throughout the tension of the case are moments of biting humor that provide levity and balance. And, oh, the ending! I won’t reveal too many details, but I eagerly anticipate the release of the sequel.

I recommend this book/series for those who enjoy British police procedurals, mysteries, and thrillers featuring capable female detectives with amiable supporting characters.

Thanks to @NetGalley and @Bookouture for the DRC.

Book 16 and Helen Phifer does it again! This series is one of the best detective series I’ve read and book 16 is possibly my favourite.
Once again Morgan and Ben and the team are faced with a terrible crime. Things go from bad to worse when Morgans colleagues are personally affected. I couldn’t stop reading this book, it pulled me in straight from the off. I cannot recommend this series enough, it’s well written, exciting and thrilling. Plus the characters are likeable enough that you care what happens to them. Just have to add, what an ending!
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Morgan and Ben have just returned from a well earned break away when they're called to a remote campsite where the decomposed body of a woman has been found. Never a detective team to catch a break the next few days are hectic and tense and more bodies are discovered. Tristan joins the team to replace Amy who's gone on maternity leave and he is quickly thrown in at the deep end with no chance to get to know his new colleagues.
I just know that when a Morgan Brookes novel hits my kindle, I'm not going to get anything done until I've read the very last page. They are so addictive and each storyline as fresh as the very first.
This novel was darker than previous ones with little time for the humour than has appeared in previous novels. The ending was a surprise as well so can't wait for book 17.

This is my review of Gone in the Night.

The cast of the small control team includes:
DS Ben Matthews-Boss & partner
DC Morgan Brookes
DC Amy Smith (Just gone off on Maturity leave)
Tristan Carter (Stan)- Amy’s replacement
DC Cain Robson
Amber-Police Officer
Wendy- Morgan’s friend

Ben and Morgan had just returned from a week’s holiday and but they would soon be involved in a brutal crime scene.

The novel opens with a woman, Lydia Williams, who quits her job after being hit on by her slime-bag married boss, Justin. Now with her new freedom, she travels with her dog, Barney to a camping site in the Lake District to spend a few days of rest and relaxation.

When a farmer reports an abandoned campsite in Rydal Falls, Detective Morgan Brookes goes to investigate, where she discovers a young girl who had been brutally killed in her sleeping bag, her belongings ransacked, a knife twisted into her body. The team as well as the pathologist heads over to the crime scene, and the victim is identified as Sharon Montgomery.

After Morgan speaks to Sharon’s mother, Beth and stepfather, at the morgue, Beth admits that Sharon and her stepfather had a huge fight before she was killed. Sharon had witnessed her best friend, Leah, having an affair with her stepfather. And Morgan soon discovers that Sharon had a boyfriend, Jack White, (Amy’s ex) who kept their relationship a secret. Both men knew where Sharon was camping.

Then another victim is stabbed and killed-Lydia Williams while camping.

Two bodies in two days, both found in similar circumstances. Same killer…

Morgan must track down the killer before they claim another victim?

A well-written addictive crime detective novel with relatable characters, another unputdownable crime thriller…with a cliff-hanger ending! Can’t wait for book 17!

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for my digital copy.

This was a strong addition to the Morgan Brookes series. The story pulled me in right away with its chilling opening and kept a great pace throughout. The investigation was engaging, with enough twists to hold my interest, and the Lake District setting added an atmospheric backdrop to the crimes.

I did find myself wishing for more personal development for Morgan and her team—those moments always make the series feel richer to me. The ending also wrapped up a little too quickly for my taste, leaving me wanting a bit more resolution.

That said, it was still a very enjoyable read. Suspenseful, well-written, and definitely worth picking up if you’ve been following the series or if you enjoy tense police procedurals with strong female leads.

Rydal Falls, an abandoned tent in the mountains, a woman lay watching the stars, she has been dead for some time.
Detective Morgan Brookes finds more on the victim Sharon Montgomery and later on victim Lydia Williams all over their social media.
Heart pounding story that leaves you gobsmacked once again. I love this series and characters, gripping unputdownable right through to the end.

And Helen does it again!! I don’t know how she does it! She keeps writing these edge of the seat, suspense filled books that you literally can’t put down!

I love seeing all the familiar characters back, and picking up right where we left them. I’m so glad Amy was back and we got to follow where her life is now headed.

As ever, the action starts straight away and doesn’t give our main characters Ben and Morgan a chance to stop and catch their breath. Cain’s there too, adding humour to an otherwise difficult situation. When a body of someone wild camping is found, it’s all hands on deck to find out what’s happened. It seems social media has played a large part in disclosing the woman’s whereabouts but there are many different threads to this murder investigation. There’s also some shocks and surprises throughout, so be prepared not to be able to read just one more chapter!

The characters are all well written and despite this being book 16 in the series, the ideas are all still fresh, the characters strong and the scenes incredibly well described, you really will be able to see everywhere in your minds eye.

And that ending!!! What more can I say!!

Helen, keep doing what you’re doing, your books are wonderful.

Perhaps I just wasn’t paying close enough attention to the storyline but this one was a bit convoluted for me. It starts with a woman who quits her job and takes her dog camping. Then we have a murder, then raving lunatic parents, a different murder, a murderer who give us his/her thoughts, then a suicide which appears to be related but not well thought out, then a crazy maid but maybe not, a deranged woman who confesses but it’s never clearly explained why and the reason given is ridiculous after 20 years. Then a twist that maybe she’s not the killer but now there are two killers and she isn’t one of them.
If my description confused you then welcome to this book. I am guessing that the next in the series will explain what this one didn’t. At least I hope it does.

So disappointing. After that great start this book had so much potential. Instead all we got was confusion, a rushed ending and nothing made sense.

Gone in the Night by Helen Phifer is the 16th in the Detective Morgan Brookes series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I am definitely enjoying this series.

The team are definitely a family, and they have each other's backs.  I was starting to like Marc, but this book did nothing to further endear him to me.  No idea about Tristan.  Cain continues to be a favorite, along with Declan.  Sadly Theo and Ettie were not in this one, although they were both mentioned.

The plot was quite good, but I hated the ending.  I don't think the author needed a cliff-hanger to ensure her fans continued devotion.  That was really annoying.

That being said, I still highly recommend the series.

Anyway, until next time....

Gone in the Night is a dark thriller that hooks you from the start. When a woman camping alone is brutally murdered in her tent, Detective Morgan Brookes is called in to investigate. At first it seems like a horrific, isolated attack — but when another young woman is found dead, the cases begin to intertwine in shocking ways.

Tense. with plenty of sharp turns, this is a police procedural that will keep you hooked to the last page.

Gone in The Night is book 16 in the DI Morgan Brooke’s and it’s another unputdownable read by Ms Phifer. I’ve been with this series from the very beginning and I’m still completely hooked and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading about Morgan, Ben and their policing unit. This time the team are hunting the killer of two women both discovered on remote camping sites . The search is on to find the perpetrator or perpetrators. As soon as I started reading the first chapter I just knew this was going to be a one sitting read as I wouldn’t be able to put it down . It’s tense , gripping and at times chilling. I was completely in the dark about who was responsible for everything and I did gasp in shock when it was finally revealed. And as for the ending that actually rendered me speechless. I now cannot wait for book 17

I always love returning to Rydal Falls, even though I wouldn’t want to go there in real life, too many serial killers ::cringe:: Morgan and Ben and their crew are such a family. They get to add a few new members to their family in this one. Stan comes to the team so Amy can go out on maternity leave, and then Amy’s baby rounds out their found family.

The serial killer in this book goes after female social media influencers. Morgan thinks that she’s safe from this killer because she is far from the outdoorsy type, but it wouldn’t be a Detective Morgan Brookes novel if she wasn’t in some kind of danger.

I also get excited when I see that Helen Phifer has a new book coming out, and this one definitely didn’t disappoint. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of this book.

I am so lost for words with this book that I was given the chance to read early before the publication date, its book 16 of a series that I started reading well over a year ago by Helen Phifer. I was glued to this book like always I just couldn't put it down. I was even reading with my kindle while vacuuming my house and lets not forget while cooking dinner (yes this is not hard for me to do, I know it is funny, I do it all the time and my strapsicles are what make it easier for the hold while doing normal chores.)

Your story once again dragged me into it, like I was one of the characters inside the book. I started reading your series in 2024 and since then I am always checking to see if your new ones are out yet or not. The story line was amazing, the details on the murders WOW so detailed i'm sure I even dreamed about it!

The story had me gripping, you sit there reading and it feels like you’re actually in the story imagining it in a dream. Descriptions detailing information is very clear, you'll find things that have stood out and my reasoning towards the end of my review and there is a good amount of details to have the picture of what is happening.

And once again another one of my favourite authors, because well each of Helen's books that she writes is a book that carry's on after the other one left off, there is none of this one month/two months/two years and so on skipping in the story lines. This is one of my major things I look for in a series, it's also what makes me look forward to reading them!

I cannot wait to read the next instalment in the series, and I will admit I hope that I get the chance to do this before it is published.

Finally Detective Morgan and Detective Inspector Ben go on a well needed holiday, they seem to always be working and never get time to themselves and it was really enjoyable seeing their holiday through the words at the start of the book! I cannot believe it is time to say goodbye to Detective Amy for the short time and that her baby is finally due very soon, it is about time that women has a break from work and concentrates on herself. Never a dull moment first day back from their holiday and boom straight into a murder case, time never does stay still for team they should have learnt that by now haha, I am still a little unsure on the new detective but time shall tell I am still at 20% as i'm writing this but I look forward to learning if he shall fit in with the team.

Wow I am left shocked when Jack admits that the murder victim is his girlfriend, or the person that he has been seeing and then the next day he has either killed himself or he was murdered. That was a plot twist that I never did expect, especially after everything he did and the way he treated Amy I didn't expect that to happen. Another murder victim that was of course going to happen and I knew this, because what serial killer would stop at one. But what's with the leaving them to not be found until days later, it has to be something in regarding the obsession with mummies. I had left of yesterday with being at 20% and when I wasn't able to sleep I was hooked, I carried on reading and ended up at 60% which doesn't surprise me. Cause with Helen's books I have this issue where when I start, I can't not just stop I have to keep on going reading,

I am wondering when it will be that Ben finally proposes to Morgan, considering book 15 had the talks of him actually having a ring, but I am still waiting for this. Their relationship that they have is very special, and it is one book couple I shall always envy that is for sure! Now for some well needed book reading time this morning while I enjoy the little sunshine that we do have, before the weather does pack itself in. I know that I should be going on with housework and other stuff, but I just haven't the energy so today my plan is to have a resting day with my kindle.

As I promised here are descriptions that have stood out to me in the book with my own reasonings, this is because of how she has done so amazing in describing the images of how the characters see things and so on.

"ancient Egyptians and their mummification process"
"enthralled as a ten-year-old boy"
"mummies on display, which had totally blown his young mind"
This was well described on how he would remember visiting a museum and how he would imagine the murders that he has committed to be seen once they have been left to be found. The descriptions are creepy but well described making you imagine it yourself, giving you shivers while you read.
His thoughts on his parents, which how I am seeing this is why he has turned into wanted to commit murders, the loss of the love that their was their but also wasn't their due to it being his own mothers choices and then also the hurt and loss of being able to be a child growing up.

His mother: "her illness was self-inflicted; she chose to drink neat vodka"
His Father: "his dad had walked out years before"
His Father: "never forgave him for abandoning him and leaving him with a drunk who didn't care about anything but herself"
I feel that the murders first steamed from his father walking out, he never could forgive after that and it had turned his thoughts and wishes and so on to the dark side. & the comment regarding his mother is regarding before his mother decided to self-inflict with the choices of alcohol.
"if he got caught there was not a chance he could follow his dreams, but the compulsion to do it had been so strong, so intense, so all-consuming inside of him he knew that he wouldn't satiate it until he'd stabbed her through the hear"
My thoughts on himself, as the murderer. Even though he thinks he can't get caught by the detectives he really doesn't stand a chance, they are good at their jobs and what they do as I have read with the last 15 books of Helen's. He may seem to think he will but he won't, what they do and how they work as a team is just amazing and it is what makes them always come out on top and solve their murders.

Thank you so much for letting me read this! Loved it so much and cannot wait for the next installment!

Book #16 in the Detective Morgan Brookes series, and how is it possible for the series to just get stronger and stronger?

With each new installment, Morgan shines even brighter. Her tough exterior, her determined, tenacious character, and her inner vulnerability become even more powerful and, therefore, more endearing and readable!

In the latest book, Morgan, her boss and love of her life, Ben and the team receive a call out to a farmers land, land he rents out to campers. Rydal Falls high up in the hills of the Lake District is a beautiful setting but not easily accessible, the farmer had a booking for a camper but when he goes to check his field a few days later, the camper is still there, with a strong odour emitting from it, an odour, as a farmer, he is familiar with. Death!

Stabbed brutally and left with a knife through the heart, the victim is Wild Camping influencer Sharon Montgomery. Someone who posts her live locations all over her social media, which makes Morgans job of finding her killer a hell of a lot harder.

Her parents don't believe it's her, but on viewing the body, her mother breaks down. They'd had a huge argument, and now it's too late to say sorry. She informs the team that Sharon had had a massive fall out with her stepdad very recently and also mentions a boyfriend, Jack, who she was very secretive about. Straight from the off, it feels like a highly dysfunctional family, but just how mixed up are they?

When another camper is found dead with the same injuries, Morgan starts to fear she has a serial killer on her hands.

I absolutely adore the characters within this series. Reading how each one has developed and grown has been a total pleasure. Sometimes quite dark and painful and at other times laugh out loud with their in house jokes and quips. I'm not sure about the new guy Stan yet, but maybe he'll grow on me!

High octane, suspenseful, seriously intense, and completely unputdownable. I was left gobsmacked with the ending, and I honestly think this is my favourite of the series (so far 😉).

Huge thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

The Detective Morgan Brookes is one of my favourite crime thriller series. Gone in the Night is the 16th book in the series, and was another great addition to the series. Morgan and Ben have just returned from their holiday to New York, when they are sent to a farm, where a farmer is sure there is a dead camper in the abandoned site on his farm. When Morgan opens the tent, she finds a woman stabbed and decomposing. Sharon Montgomery is the victim and there are not a lot of suspects. When her boyfriend, who is also a detective is found hung, and another woman who is a solo camper, that he used to date is also killed, Morgan's boss wants to close the case as a double murder, suicide. Morgan knows Jack didn't kill himself or anyone else, and continues to investigate. Sharon's father-in-law, and ex-best friend are suspects, but what is their motive? Will they find the killer before someone else ends up dead?

Morgan is such a great character. She has amazing instincts, but often finds herself in trouble when she acts on those hunches. Wild Solo Camping is central to this story, and it is something I would never do. It also stresses that putting everything on instagram or social media, puts you in danger as it can easily be tracked. I was not a fan of the stepfather or ex-friend and wanted one of them to be the culprit so they could have a consequence. Neither of them were likable. There are times I want to reach out and grab Morgan, yelling at her not to go off by herself, as she seems to get herself in trouble in each book. I really enjoyed how this one ended and did not have the killer on my radar at all. This is only the second book in this series that I have listened to and I was pleased with the narration by Alison Campbell.

Wow! Sixteen books in the captivating Detective Morgan Brookes series! In this installment, Morgan demonstrates her relentless determination as she investigates the murder of a solo camper at a remote campsite. Not only is Morgan seeking justice for the victim, but she is also frequent bed to protect other solo campers from a similar fate.

The victim is Sharon Montgomery, a young woman who not only enjoyed camping alone in the wild, but her growing social media presence kept her fans riveted to her adventures. As Morgan dives head first into the case, she is also getting used to working with a new officer named Declan, as one of her officers, Amy, is going on maternity leave. Business first for Morgan, so Declan will just have to keep up.

Morgan’s reputation for an unbeatable success rate with catching killers leads her into danger the closer she gets to finding who it was that killed Sharon. However, that definitely doesn’t stop her. Even the most elusive killers have been found by Morgan and she knows without a doubt that she will finds the one responsible for Sharon’s murder.

Gone in the Night is a compelling and fast-paced thriller that grabs you from the start and never once loses its grip. With the killer’s thoughts in your ear as the story develops, this story definitely proves to be one that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Helen Phifer never disappoints when it comes to writing taut and compelling stories with expertly placed twists certain to keep the reader guessing until the very end.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of Gone in the Night in exchange for my honest review.

Book 16 in the Detective Morgan Brookes series is as gripping and atmospheric as ever. When the body of a young influencer is discovered in her tent, it looks like an isolated tragedy—until a second woman is found murdered under eerily similar circumstances. With Amy on maternity leave, Morgan is joined by Ben, Cain, and new team member Stan as they try to piece together the chilling puzzle. Could one of their own be involved, or is the killer hiding in plain sight?

The descriptions of the Lake District were wonderfully vivid, creating a moody and at times unsettling backdrop. The crime scenes were tense and frightening, but balanced by the warmth and banter of the team. I particularly love how Morgan remains fiercely unconventional, while Cain continues to bring heart and humor into even the darkest cases. The team dynamics feel natural and deeply human, which makes the stakes hit even harder.

Phifer once again delivers a fast-paced, twisty thriller that kept me turning the pages late into the night. I thought I had the culprit figured out early on, but the ending caught me completely by surprise—especially with that cliffhanger that leaves you desperate for book 17.

This is another strong, emotionally charged installment in a consistently excellent series. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Lisa Regan, and anyone who loves police procedurals with heart, atmosphere, and plenty of shocks.

Highly recommended.

This book was another good book for the Morgan Brookes series. The ending left me unsettled though. I like how normally the books have neatly tied up endings, but this one does not. The murderer has targeted solo camping influencers and even took the dog of one after it witnessed the crime. Instead, the team chased a murder-suicide angle with Jack, Amy’s baby dad, and then arrested the step father and maid of the first victim on suspicion while the mother killed herself in-front of them. All of this happened while Amy was in labor. So Beth, Sharon’s (first victim) mom confessed to the crimes, yet the criminal is identified as a man who has the dog. My sneaky suspicion is that it is Stan because he found the blue rope suddenly in the apartment above the garage of the Montgomery home. He’s just weird. But I am upset how so many “suspects” were identified yet the epilogue ends with yet another murder taking place with the dog there to witness. The next book is about another crime, so I’m wondering when this will get tied up or if it even will. Also, normally Morgan has really good intuition so I’m wondering why the police work was not as good this book. Idk I’m making this more detailed because if this comes up in the next books I’ll need to reference my thoughts because again I feel so unfinished. I do love this series though!

I think everyone knows that feeling. You’ve just come back from vacation, and on your first day at work you want to hold onto that feeling a little longer. Starting up slowly and hoping you can ease back in at a gentle pace — that’s exactly what Morgan and Ben had in mind. But unfortunately, murderers have a different plan, and before they’re even properly back in the office, they’re thrown straight into the deep end again.

I was already a huge fan of this series, and my admiration for it just keeps growing. The characters, their interactions, their teamwork — it’s simply sublime. They form such a close-knit team that they support each other privately as well, and because the atmosphere between them is so good, it guarantees great successes.

Usually, I have one name in mind that I’ve picked out as my prime suspect, but this time I was completely clueless. I really didn’t see it coming, and that made it all the more thrilling for me.

Of course, all eyes are once again on Morgan, because if there’s anyone who doesn’t hesitate to throw herself into the lion’s den, it’s her — and that naturally comes with consequences.

I always look forward eagerly to the next book, but this time with even more impatience. I absolutely loved it, and my jaw dropped open more than once. I simply have to give this book 5 stars — it’s more than deserved.

Thank you.

There seems to be a new trend in the countryside on campgrounds that are near the lake.Young adult women are investing in tents that pop up on top of their SUV. They can enter via the aluminum ladder that comes with. It provides solitude and peace for the camper. Some desire the quiet while others work on journals or video manuscripts. Sharon Montgomery has packed the car with food and necessities. Her dog is ready to roll and they both head out for a campground near the mountains that she has read about. After arrival and setting up, she and her pet snuggle into their sleeping bag. At one point early on she thinks she hears another car. Perhaps a late night camper, with that she drifts off again.
Gone in the Night will be released on September 29, 2025 by Bookouture. I was able to read Phifer’s latest novel from the Detective Morgan Brookes series via NetGalley. It was truly another pager turning adventure. Such suspense filled evil. She never seems to surprise me, each and every new Morgan Brookes mystery is a tremendous read. Whether you are a fan of this series (and author) or a newbie to her writing, Gone in the Night should land on your ‘to be read’ list!
